Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

Oh that's frustrating @User7853367

Could you accidentally be miscounting calories or anything? I've had to be quite militant about weighing and checking everything. A few things caught me by surprise e.g the amount of calories in the slither of butter I might spread on a slice of toast (have now switched to a lighter spread).

According to nutracheck my average calories over the last four weeks have been just under 1500 vs my target of 1400. That's completely down to overindulging at the weekend. But I'm well within my limits once exercise is taken into account, so I have everything crossed for a small loss this week on weigh in day.

User7853367 · 31/01/2022 19:59

No I weigh and measure everything. Just going to keep going. I don't drink much water so going to start having 2 litres a day and up my activity to see if that helps. Also going to stop weighing myself every week and only do once a month for a check in. This is a lifestyle change I need to get out of the diet mentality and worrying about every pound

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/01/2022 22:33

Sounds good @User7853367. This is the first time I've ever properly calorie counted (even on days I've over indulged) and I'm hoping it will help me reframe my habits for longer term health benefits.

StarryNightSparkles · 31/01/2022 23:14

Hi everyone,

Just checking in to say I am still loving the app and following it well. I stayed the same last week which was disappointing but on reflection I don't think I weighed everything and picked a bit. I've dusted myself off for a new week and realistic that my body will stay,go up or down due to many other factors rather than food.

Also would you believe that I've started exercising. Just going for little walks but it's a start to build on. I am so unfit it's unreal 😳

Hope you are all good.

User7853367 · 01/02/2022 07:26

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo that's what I'm hoping too

addictedtotheflats · 01/02/2022 10:05

@StarryNightSparkles All good thanks! 31 days on my deficit and I've lost 9lbs. Going to continue on 1200 a day as I'm in the swing of it now and not feeling starving all the time. Its such an eye opener seeing how many calories are in the usual things I eat! Good job on the exercise that will help loads. I keep meaning to start swimming but between 13 hour shifts and my 2 year old I just cant be bothered 🙈

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/02/2022 21:05

@StarryNightSparkles I only started exercising in my mid-40s, I don't think I'd done more than very occasionally run for a bus since I left school. Still working on my fitness but I can't believe how much more I'm capable of now. Everyone starts somewhere!

Great results addicted! You must be so pleased. I have a weigh in day tomorrow, I'm not feeling confident at the moment but we'll see... I put some extra effort into a bodycombat class this afternoon to burn a few extra calories!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2022 06:03

Weigh in day - 2.5lbs lost this week so they'd 6lbs overall in the 4 weeks since I started counting. I'm so pleased! I had a very low calorie day yesterday but refrained from 'using up' my spare calories to help offset the weekend, which felt like real progress.

Milliways · 02/02/2022 07:22

I’m the same weight this week, but actually quite pleased it’s not a gain! We took a road trip at the weekend driving my parents to see my daughters family, a 3.5 hour trip with no stops, so had a car full of picnic snacks of the unhealthy variety both ways, and 2 days of being fed lovely food prepared by DD. Being able to hug my grandson makes up for the extra calories that weekend!

User7853367 · 02/02/2022 15:46

I have joined the gym ! Proud of myself. Going to aim for 3 times a week to start with. I walk past it on the way home from work so I'll go on the way home.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2022 19:06

Aw, that's lovely @Milliways !

Well done @User7853367! What are you going to try out at the gym? Using the machines or weights, or heading to some classes?

User7853367 · 02/02/2022 19:08

Classes and the machines. I'm looking forward to starting Smile

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2022 19:41

Exciting! What classes do you fancy?

User7853367 · 02/02/2022 20:25

Pirates and Spin

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2022 20:55

Pirates sounds fun Grin

User7853367 · 03/02/2022 15:57

Grin it would be ! Pilates

Milliways · 03/02/2022 21:33

Just came to say Thanks to @User7853367 for the Fit with Rick recommendation. Just did my 5000 step walk around the lounge to this as DH was out and I didn't fancy a walk outside alone.

User7853367 · 03/02/2022 22:10

Pleased you liked it

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/02/2022 08:03

Good work @Milliways! When's your first visit to gym @User7853367?

I've been good on the calories and exercise this week, but have another challenging social event this weekend. A few meals I put into nutracheck came out as a good bit higher than the books had said, so haven't quite banked as many spare calories for wine as I would have liked.

Hope the exercise has gone well this week @StarryNightSparkles

User7853367 · 04/02/2022 08:07

Going for an induction tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. Not weighing this week as it's my period and I get mega bloated. Hopefully exercise will help with that

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/02/2022 14:00

How was the induction @User7853367? I managed bodypump yesterday and blustery short walk this morning. But a party, a hangover, and cake leftovers are going to blow my calories for the weekend. Totally worth it though and fingers crossed the rest of the week will help keep the scales under control.

User7853367 · 06/02/2022 17:56

It was great thanks. Went back today for a workout. Body pump sounds good I might start that class in a couple of weeks. I was exhausted after today but it's still early days

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/02/2022 16:49

Oh that's good. I do enjoy bodypump - I like getting some strength training in.

My calorie consumption has been through the roof the last few days, I'm about to do a bodycombat class for some redemption!

User7853367 · 13/02/2022 10:02

I've been going between the weight machines and treadmill/cross trainer. I want to start going out running in the spring so practicing for that. I've booked in for a pilates class through the week, I haven't done it for years but used to love my pilates

addictedtotheflats · 21/02/2022 09:06

Just weighed in on week 7, 11lbs down. Not as quick as I'd hoped but slowly getting there. 💪🏼
