Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

Evening!!

Well I didn’t have a great day - calorie wise!
My parents came to visit and my mum brought pizzas and homemade cake. My own fault for not telling them I was calorie counting but obviously couldn’t refuse it!
Everyone knows now though and there’ll be no more accidental sabotage. They don’t live in this country and we haven’t seen them over Christmas, so that also marks the end of the Christmas gatherings.
No more days off for me now though!

I’m going shopping tomorrow so will get some thin bagels and sandwich thins. One of my favourite calorie counting lunches is a bacon and potato waffle sandwich made with a sandwich thin. Two bacon medallions and one waffle with butter and brown sauce is 317 calories and absolutely lovely!!

Can I join ? Been using Nutracheck since the start of November, had lost 13lbs but put on 4lbs as been indulging over the last 2 weeks. I'm not bothered, it was worth it and I'll lose it this week. Have 2 and a half stone to lose overall but taking my time with it. I'm on 1800 calories a day (set Nutracheck to lose 1lb a week) and walking 10000 steps minimum. When the weather gets a bit nicer I'm going to do Couch to 5k

Elopelo · 03/01/2022 12:45

I’m starting properly today as my calorie log book is in a weekly format, so thought best to start on an actual Monday.

@FlabCrab I live with extended family and I guess that’s the hardest part for me because there is always someone in the house who has ordered a takeaway or bought some chocolate and it’s very very hard to say no when everyone else is enjoying it. Also I wanted to say thanks for the link to the calculator, it’s given me a few extra calories to cushion myself in!

FlabCrab · 03/01/2022 14:08

Hi!

Ugh, I’m struggling. Been busy all morning (I have a very active job) and I just want to eat and eat! 😭
Must stay strong!!

Been doing well at sticking to calories, went for a 5 mile walk this morning.
1lb down already, so that's something (I'm a daily weigher, not for everyone but it keeps me focused)

Cassimin · 03/01/2022 14:58

Can I join today please?
Need to lose around 2 stone, I think I’ve put most of it on over Christmas!!
Never tried calorie counting before, can anyone recommend an easy way of doing it please?

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 03/01/2022 15:09

I’ll join too please! I did calorie counting this time last year and lost 2 stone over 6 months. Just weighed myself this morning and have put a stone back on 😭

I’m aiming to get back on it, Cals about 1200-1400 a day (Also small so Cals are on the lower end) and get back to long dog walks - sorry doggo!

Can’t believe what I scranned over Christmas, made a large toffee apple crumble, my son had one portion and I ate the rest Blush Also a huge macaroni cheese pie, big roasts, profiteroles, family sized chocolate bar(s) - I’m half impressed half ashamed Confused

FlabCrab · 03/01/2022 15:41

Yes of course and welcome!!

@Cassimin I would download Nutracheck and pay for the subscription - it’s pennies a week and well worth it. My Fitness pal is free but relies on users inputting the details so isn’t always accurate.

Then use a calculator online likd the one I posted above to work out your calorie allowance, and stick to it as well as you can. No foods are out of bounds, but to be within your allowance you will need to make better choices. It really makes you think and is a change for life!

I am not having a great day because I just want to eat! 🙈 but I’m learning that it’s better to have that one extra snack and be 100 cals over, than to go ‘fuck it I’ll start tomorrow’ and be 1000 cals over..!

@GingerFoxInAT0phat I think I ate enough for several people a day for about three weeks over Christmas!! But that’s life, I enjoyed it!
Back on track now though I hope!

Hello 👋 I would like to join please. Good tip re the JSA calculator- that gives me around 200 more calories then the Nutracheck one which might be useful at the start.

Cassimin · 03/01/2022 16:46

Thanks FlabCrab I’ll do that now.

StarryNightSparkles · 03/01/2022 16:54

Hi can I join in please. I have the Nutracheck app and have started today. Think I have 3 or 4 stones to get rid off. Is everyone going to weigh themselves weekly or monthly? I am thinking just weighing myself on the 1st of every month.

Good luck everyone

Batshittery · 03/01/2022 17:12

Good evening. Can I join you please? I am going to be starting tomorrow.
I have a few stones to lose, but breaking it down to a stone at a time to make it more manageable. I intend to weigh on a Friday.

I have the Nutracheck app, which I paid for in June but have never used Blush I will do better this year. Grin

StarryNightSparkles · 03/01/2022 17:55

@Batshittery the other day slimming world books dropped through my door. I was confused then realized that I had joined up and paid for a year last year 😳 I like your idea of taking it one stone at a time. One stone seems a lot better to say than 4 for me 😂

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 03/01/2022 18:07

I’ve stayed on track today, had protein granola for breakfast and then a veggie meatball and spaghetti ready meal for tea. I’ve eaten that much that I’m still so bloated and can’t remember the last time I actually felt hungry!

Good luck everyone 💪🏼

Batshittery · 03/01/2022 18:09

I need to keep my goals realistic Starry. It seems more daunting thinking I need to lose 3 stone. At this point, I'll be happy with any loss.
Good luck

Daisy829 · 03/01/2022 18:14

Yes plse. I use nutracheck and I did well on it until last summer then I’ve just eaten and drank so much wine I’ve put on 2 stone. I don’t know why I did it to myself. What an idiot. Anyway, a close family member is getting married in July & I purchased a beautiful dress in the sales last summer that I want to fit into & it’s a size 12.
I started dry Jan which has been fine. Today has been my first successful calorie counting day. Although sat & sun were fine in the day I managed to eat the last of the crisps in the evening.
Nutracheck says I should lose my 2 stone by end of April so I’m hoping for that. Good luck all.

Batshittery · 03/01/2022 18:25

You sound very experienced with the app Daisy.
Good luck

StarryNightSparkles · 03/01/2022 18:33

I know what you mean @Batshittery @Daisy829 are you on the dry Jan thread? It's really good. Good luck to you both.

Just had homemade chicken, veg and noodle soup for dinner it was yummy and good to have something light after the holidays.

MotherMole · 03/01/2022 18:42

Hello to everyone

Had another good day…. So far…. Have spotted chocolate in the fridge which I find SO hard to resist.

Going out for a walk to distract myself and just thought I’d check in to read everyone else’s posts to keep me focused 🤞🏼

Whatliesbeneath707 · 03/01/2022 19:03

I know the purpose of calorie counting is so that we can choose anything to eat but does anyone know of any resources that list typical breakfasts, lunches & dinners and their calories? I'm trying to find meal ideas that give you plenty of food for the calories.

Thanks.

My fitness pal is really useful for this as you can look up specific brands/supermarkets items.

I also use bbc good food as it has sections of recipes under 400 calories etc.

Follow my fitness chef on Instagram (also can buy the book off Amazon but don't need to). It's useful for little tricks like using 5% fat mince to majorly reduce calorific intake compared to 10 or 15%. The account shows all the calories of common crisp brands, Starbucks products etc so you can compare easily and learn hacks.

Daisy829 · 03/01/2022 19:46

@StarryNightSparkles I am on it but I seem to have lost it! I’m doing okay actually atm. I was ready for an alcohol break & feel so much better even after just 3 days.

StarryNightSparkles · 03/01/2022 20:21

3 days is good going well done Daisy. Today is my day 2. Fingers crossed that 2022 is the year I get slim and healthy 🤞😊 that's the plan anyway 😕

Have you looked at the meals section on Nutracheck app?

There's some quite good ones on there. Some of them you have to look at carefully as they're user added.
