Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

1200 are my calories! I am very good at getting all the energy out of food.

Daisy829 · 04/01/2022 20:45

I’m 26 under my calories today but was 196 under yesterday.

MushMonster · 04/01/2022 20:50

I have used several calculators and they all come back around the same.
Also, I have done this calorie counting for months and actually been healthier than I was. I am not starving myself. I lose weight at around 2 pounds per week. Each of us is a bit different. I am quite jealous of your numbers Grin but that would be my maintain range, possibly put some weight on actually.

Cassimin · 05/01/2022 10:38

Thanks Flabcrab for the info about nutracheck.
I like a cup of tea and a skinny bar at night watching the tv. Last night about 7 when I filled my dinner in on my nutracheck I saw I didn’t have enough cals left. Grabbed the dog and my son and went out for a lovely walk.
Had my treat and ended up with cals over!

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 05/01/2022 11:00

Asda do some mini salted caramel ice creams that are about 100-ish cals, I used to put it in a bowl with some strawberries and maybe a broken up protein bar if I had enough left over.

I like to have something sweet with a cup of tea on a night when the kids are in bed. Sometimes I’ll have a little jelly and custard pot, choc mousse and strawbs, low cal ice cream etc.

I must have had a lot of bloating/water weight because I lost 3lbs overnight Grin Aware it’s not fat loss though!

StarryNightSparkles · 05/01/2022 11:18

Morning everyone 😊👋

Just checking in to say that I am absolutely lovingly the Nutracheck app. Thankfully sticking or have some calories left over at the end of the day. Painfully aware that I always do well the first week of trying to lose weight it's the keeping it up and not giving up easy that's my problem.

Yesterday I had:
Coffee for breakfast
Leftover homemade chicken noodle soup for lunch
Dinner was homemade vegetarian pizza
Snacks were chocolate cake, chocolates
Water and tea for drinks

Good luck everyone

Daisy829 · 05/01/2022 16:03

Okay it’s snack attack time! I’ve made a liquorice & peppermint tea whilst I’m sorting the kids out (I’m a childminder so there’s lots of them to feed!)
Staying strong to break the cycle.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/01/2022 16:45

Hi, got room for another? I'm just starting today - I thought coinciding with a return to work would be a good start.

I've just signed up to the nutracheck free trial - thinking if I like it and pay for it it will be an incentive to keep using it! I like that you can see how you've done over a week (I've changed my week to start on a Wednesday).

I'd like to lose around a stone and a half, though I have set myself an initial goal of a stone. I've put on four pounds over Christmas so hoping I can at least shake those off pretty quickly by getting back to good habits.

Planning on calorie counting, regular exercise and cutting back on the wine!

MotherMole · 05/01/2022 16:58

Hello again everyone
Am loving reading everyone’s comments with tips and general chat.
Hello @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I really liked Nutracheck app after the trial and it’s the only app I’ve paid for. I really like that you can see your nutrition broken down into daily/weekly. There’s also loads of foods logged on there, including takeaways.
@StarryNightSparkles I am similar - great for a week, then can’t keep it up.
I’ve had a slightly worse day today and we are getting takeaway for dinner 😑 About to go for a run to help things…. Will hopefully do a long one.
Hope everyone is having a good day 👍🏼

MushMonster · 05/01/2022 18:54

Done for the day! Almost done with the cooking for tomorrow.
Mine was granola with oat milk and coffee, home made kidney beans and spicy rice, and chunky cod fish fingers with spinach and chips.
I actually feel too full!

Tomorrow is a breakfast muffin (from the nutracheck recipes suggestions), soya burger with salad, the soup that is simmering in the kitchen with bread, and I have calories left but not 100% what to use them up with yet.
I have to choose from using the left over cod fish fingers, yougurt with plum and peaches, or cheese and crackers (I have cheeses, crackers and chutney left from Cheistmas! I have to control myself around those!)

MushMonster · 05/01/2022 19:14

Oh dear lol, Christmas!

Dazedandconfused10 · 05/01/2022 20:15

Another day done. Last night went over on the snacking but over the week it will even out .

Today also did a run, need to fit one in tomorrow too as I won't get a chance Friday or Saturday.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/01/2022 20:25

Thanks @MotherMole.

I had boiled egg with toast for breakfast, home made soup and spinach & ricotta cannelloni today with an apple for a snack. I also did a bodycombat class so I'm feeling quite virtuous.

It was a very low calorie count day though and I am hungry so trying to decide what to use up some calories on that isn't leftover Christmas chocolate.

I need to think of some healthy ish snack options for days like this! Off to check out the recipes on nutracheck for future meal planning ideas.

FlabCrab · 05/01/2022 20:36

Evening all!
Hope everyone’s had a good day. Glad other people are getting on with Nutracheck, I love it, it’s the one app I don’t begrudge paying for.
I’ve not had a bad day but slightly over my 1450. Had a very active day though and I was genuinely hungry.
But I did really well in terms of just going a bit over, instead of just going fuck it and emptying the cupboards 😂

Breakfast - thin bagel with soft cheese (246)
Lunch - falafel wrap with salad, apple and crisps (535)
Dinner - chicken sausages and mash with veg (390)
Snacks - ice cream Mars bar, cracker bread with butter and jam, and soreen with butter (451)

Total - 1622

My maintenance is around 1800 so hopefully not a gain, even though I’m over 🤞🤞

Me too but in a lazy disorganised sort of way. I’ve put on quite a bit due to wfh through Covid and becoming really sedentary. I used to run but have picked up an unfixable ankle injury and struggle to motivate myself to do anything else.

I’ve got the myfitnesspal app which calculates me losing 0.5kg a week being sedentary on 1290 calories. I have an indoor bike and some resistance bands to start some movingness as well. I’ve only been doing it 2 days but it’s already been useful to make me aware of how the little bits here and there really add up.

SockFluffInTheBath · 05/01/2022 20:48

Today was 2 coffee for breakfast (didn’t realise how many calories and g of sugar in milk).

Chilli squid for lunch with a big bowl of rocket and red pepper.

Apple & banana mid afternoon.

Southern fried chicken thing with some tomatoey pasta and sweetcorn for dinner (not ideal, defrosted the freezer and needed using).

Drinks have been fizzy water, one can of Coke Zero and a mango & bergamot tea.

I find it hard in the evenings, I just want to snack so the tea takes the edge off.

MushMonster · 05/01/2022 21:23

Milky coffee has plenty of calories! I love coffee, so I have to be careful as I can drink a lot of calories in a day!Sad
I wish white coffee had no calories.
I now like lemon and ginger tea, so I have those. I only started drinking teas since calorie counting!

MushMonster · 05/01/2022 21:32

I am going back to work tomorrow, so I have booked the gym, ready to get back to the routine!
My husband says he us going to follow my meal plan too, so that should help me! I may get a bit jealous seeing his larger portions! We will see.

Lots of people doing great, it is motivating me🙂

FlabCrab · 05/01/2022 21:52

What I found helped me last time was working out my maintenance calories. So my steady slow loss calories are 1450, but my maintenance is 1800.
So I stick under 1450, but I know that if I’m really just wanting to eat, I’ll allow myself up to 1800. Then that way, although I won’t be in a deficit and losing, I won’t be eating enough to gain and undo my good work! Helps me because i was a terrible one for thinking ‘oh I’ve ruined it now might as well just start again tomorrow’ if I went even 1 cal over.
Helps me keep it all in perspective!

It really surprised me, something like 70 cals in the amount of semi skimmed I put in one coffee. I think my morning coffee will have to be black from now on.

This is a really good way of thinking. It helps to break the binge/starve cycle.

I used to go over and think oh fuck it and eat everything in sight. Then would feel awful for doing that and think well tomorrow I’ll hardly eat anything. And so on.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2022 11:02

That's a good way to look at it @FlabCrab - I'm going to work out my maintenance calories.

I've set nutracheck to show weekly from Wednesday rather than Sunday so that the weekend falls midweek. I'm trying to set easier calorie days for Fri/Sat but can't quite get it to work. I've also added alcohol calories to my diary - like many people we got in to the habit of far too much wine in lockdown and a reminder of how many calories it has will be a good disincentive I think!

FlabCrab · 06/01/2022 22:01

Yes this is me!! I’m getting better at not doing it though, working to my maintenance if needed really does help. Someone else told me and I was like why didn’t I think of that!?

I’ve had a good day today though.

Breakfast - Thin bagel with butter and soft cheese (246)
Lunch - jacket potato with beans, cheese and salad (452)
Dinner - Tesco low cal mushroom risotto (339)
Snacks - chocolate buttons (76), fuel oat muffin (172), actimel (27), ice cream Mars bar (140)

Total - 1452

Hope everyone else has had a good day :)

Lunch - spring veg soup with a slice of bread 166
