A stone or less to lose

Anyone looking for the magic stone more or less? I’m furious with myself and in a slight panic here. I had a fantastic weight loss last summer - June, July and August I lost 20lb and felt bloody brilliant. Stalled in September but kept it off until Jan then the last lockdown got to me and I have regained 7lb. Now, I know thats not loads but it puts my lovely big loss last summer back quite a bit and I can feel the inches going back on. It’s such a shame because I felt amazing slimmer and very proud of myself for shifting the pounds I’d been holding on to since my last baby (cough...three years ago!).

For context: I was 11st 9, I got to 10st 3 and am back up to 10st 10. My initial goal, which I never quite managed was 9st 12. I’d love to get there this time.

The burst of glorious weather today made me feel I want to BE slim this summer rather than “slimming” this summer. I want to do it now and not wait for the heatwave to kill my appetite Grin

Anyone else want to shift up to a stone now and not wait until two weeks before their holiday...what holiday??? Grin

It's always interesting to read other people's goals vs your own. I'm aiming for 11st but I'm tall and that means I'm comfy in my size 12 jeans, so that'll do me.

I've just spoken to the Drs and they will finally adjust my meds, so feeling positive.

Planning on sticking to an 8hr window today and then I need to cut down the carbs. I can eat rice and potatoes and still lose weight - it's bread products/pasta that do it for me!

The poster who asked about having an event to aim for... I don’t have anything major in the diary but the constant messages from friends about getting together “when this is all over” followed by the realisation that it is very nearly all over and we’ll have to start seeing people again is making me twitchy! Grin

There will be lots of catching up this summer and I want to look/feel better. Having lost weight last summer, I know the difference even half a stone makes to the way my clothes hang and I want to get there again. Unlike first time round it feel doable and within touching distance this time. That’s why I don’t want to gain any more because every pound makes the task of losing feel more overwhelming.

Yes, I agree with you there about 'This Summer' feeling like an event in itself.

I went on an 8 mile walk today and came home to a tasty low calorie chicken Caesar salad. I feel like I should have lost 4lbs for all my virtue! The patience of chipping away at weight loss is something I haven't quite grasped yet.

FizzyPink · 08/04/2021 18:27

Well I’ve just done a Get Fit with Rick 90s workout followed by Chloe Ting and feeling fabulous!
I really like both as the workouts are only 15-20 minutes so feel very achievable. I tend to get a bit bored with the longer ones (and give myself too many breaks Blush)

nodtik · 08/04/2021 19:19

23 000 steps today!

So that's good 😌 tried hard with my food too, hoping to stay on track xx

chloechloe · 08/04/2021 19:46

I need to check out these Chloé Ting workouts! Any other recommendations for short but effective workouts? I used to really love Jillian Michaels but it would be good to find something new.

Abcgo · 08/04/2021 20:39

Hi all,
I’m going to jump in here too if that’s ok. I’m 5ft3 and 9st4. Years ago I dreamed of being 8st, then 8.7 & now anything that starts with an 8 would be good! I’ve got quite a lot of clothes that aren’t fitting now & I’m not buying new ones! I’m going on a short break to Cornwall mid April when we’re allowed and I’d love to be under 9 stone by then!

redkiteflying · 08/04/2021 22:47

Oh please can I join? I noticed my clothes getting tighter in august and was horrified to find I'd put on 5kg but just weighed myself today and have put on another 5!!
Will be doing 1200 calories and restarting running. I've noticed that running doesn't affect my weight unless I do really long runs though, and I'm a way off being able to do them again having not exercised since the first lockdown...

YetAnotherWalk · 09/04/2021 07:18

So easy to come on and so hard to get off @redkiteflying

So I'm going to jump on the scales in a minute and see how bad the damage is and do my first full and proper IF day. Did stick to an 8hr window yesterday and a yoga video too.

Good luck all!

I’ve been doing my fitness pal for the past few weeks. I’m losing weight steadily - think I’ve lost around 6lbs so far in about a month.

I don’t normally diet but do quite a bit of exercise so am healthy - just wanted to lose half a stone or so and shape up

I think my fitness pal is great as it shows you exactly how many calories are in the food you eat, a calorie deficit really is the thing you need to lose weight. It’s also useful to see how much difference exercise actually makes. A 5k run means I burn a max of 300 calories which is a banana and a chocolate bar , so it teaches you that you can’t put exercise a bad diet!

Cavagirl · 09/04/2021 08:15

Well I'm back to last Friday's pre-easter weight, hurrah!
Just need to not sabotage myself over the weekend! Anyone have any weekend tips???

Stovetopespresso · 09/04/2021 08:28

hi please can I join? I have managed to lose 1 stone since Jan, I was the heaviest I'd ever been after some bad lockdown habits! so now I am 73kg (11'7) I'm 5'9, but I've plateaued, fallen off the wagon realised I'm peri, all of it.
been doing 5:2 and another lo cal day and generally trying to be mindful.
@Cavagirl it's hard over the weekends, sometimes I tap any booze I think I'm going to have later in to mfp which makes me more wary of the other food stuffs going on around me...

swampytiggaa · 09/04/2021 08:36

Me! I’d like to be under 9:7 again. Currently closer to 10:7 😭😭

Last week I ran 30+ miles and put on weight 😭😭

I’ve gone back to intermittent fasting and cut out biscuits and crisps and chocolate bars. I’m adding in some weight training - very basic 3 times a week to see if that helps.

Tbh I’m 51 and perimenapausal just had the mirena coil fitted to ease my horrific periods so not sure what part hormones are playing.

I want to fit comfortably into my skinny jeans again. They’re Levi’s and I have 3 pairs. No way am I paying for the next size up 😱

youlittlecharmer · 09/04/2021 09:07

Can I join? 5'3 and 10 stone 6 on a good day. I waver between feeling fine and feeling like a stuffed sausage. Would love to get below 10 stone again but it seems so much harder now I'm over 30! I use Nutracheck and my simple problem is that I eat too much, especially when working from home.

FizzyPink · 09/04/2021 09:10

@Cavagirl I definitely give myself a bit of slack over the weekend but don’t go totally off the rails.
So for example we might have a McDonalds for dinner but I’ll still check the calories and usually have a chicken burger and nuggets instead of chips as they’re slightly lower. I also try to only have two meals instead of my usual 3 so I can fit in more calories which is quite easy if you have a long lie in Blush

Luckily since I’ve been calorie counting I’ve gone totally off alcohol so I don’t have that to consider. Although that will probably go out the window as soon as we’re back in restaurants and beer gardens!

Frequentflier · 09/04/2021 10:22

I am not any kind of expert but I do find diet works better for me than exercise. That said, I do want to begin weight training. Simply to be stronger and fitter. Is there an easy video for a complete beginner? Something I can do while watching Unforgotten?:)

annabell22 · 09/04/2021 14:39

@Abcgo - I have v similar stats to you. I was 7st 10lbs when I left school at 18, never reached 9st until I got pregnant a decade later and now at 53 I long to be 8st something again.

@swampytiggaa I also run regularly and think it makes no difference at all to my weight.

@Frequentflier Hasfit app/YouTube/website has lots of great workouts, all free.

Today was my weekly weigh in - I was exactly the same as last week despite loads of activity and careful eating. It's not fair!

swampytiggaa · 09/04/2021 14:45

@annabell22 I’m doing the hasfit 15 minute beginner workout 3 times a week for now. It seemed really gentle but bloody hell I ache afterwards!

Lavender17 · 09/04/2021 14:59

I've got a stone to lose. I'm currently 10 stone 6, my heaviest ever. My downfalls are carbs, especially toast and biscuits. I also tend to pick at food all day long rather than have proper meals. I took up running a year ago andnd do 15-20,km a week but it has had no effect on my weight. I'm useless at counting calories so I'm intending to fast 2-3 times a week. I did this a few years ago and lost a stone then, so hopefully it will work again.

redkiteflying · 10/04/2021 12:09

Just discovered I can't fit into two pairs of trousers ☹️ I tend to wear dresses for work and my jeans at the weekend (which have clearly expanded with me). This is depressing

YetAnotherWalk · 10/04/2021 16:16

Same here redkite Though I've been wearing them... I had a ridiculous cycle just now, so I'm hoping some of it was that (bloating).

Have stuck to an 8 hr eating window, but now I need to get on top of what I eat within that! A bit easier when we're in a proper routine, so will aim to do my best this week and get properly sorted once school is back on.

Whatwouldnanado · 10/04/2021 22:27

Redkiteflying I feel your pain. The zip keeps coming down on my favourite work trousers, jeans feel tight.
What's your plan to tackle it? I have walked two miles today, plan to do the same tomorrow and have cut my carbs to half usual portions for the last week or so. I am 53 and think a lot of this weight gain is to do with the menopause. Anyone else similar?

Abcgo · 11/04/2021 09:08

@Whatwouldnanado it’s definitely linked to getting older/menopause for me (I’m 51) I used to be able to eat a lot more without putting on weight, and diets worked better.

I’m using my fitness pal to track everything I eat and see how that goes!

swampytiggaa · 11/04/2021 10:22

Well I can’t up my activity levels by much... I’ve run just under 40 miles this week and walked another 12 plus all my day to day activities.

I’ve done 3 weights workouts this week and I’m trying to be more mindful of my food. I’m back to 16:8 fasting and cutting down on biscuits and chocolate. Shopping is being delivered tomorrow so I’m going to try for some healthier meals 😊

redkiteflying · 11/04/2021 13:41

Sounds great @Whatwouldnanado and good luck everyone
I definitely noticed as soon as I hit 30 I gained weight really easily, whereas I could eat whatever I liked before (and in vast quantities!) and I remained, if anything, a bit too thin... so think it must be partly age-related metabolism changes for me.
I'm logging on MFP again - I think my diet is generally good (healthy protein and veg mostly) but my two junk food blind spots that I'm cutting are pizza (definitely my food weakness) and chocolate (ditto) and I just went for my first run in a year (!). It was difficult but getting back into it was always going to be...
