Weight loss for those with a 40+ BMI

Anyone else at the start of their weight loss journey with a BMI over 40?

I thought starting this thread might make me more accountable.

I'm 5ft 5, weigh 265lbs, I'm in my early 30's.

I'd love to chat to others in a similar position, almost all my friends and extended family are slim! (My DH is also trying to loose weight, lower BMI than me though.)

thisseat urgh sorry you got COVID very glad you're recovering well Flowers
I think losing 7lb over 7 weeks with so much going on is a fantastic achievement!

Thisseatisnotavailable · 15/06/2021 17:19

How is everyone doing? Just half a lb off for me last week. Not surprising though as I was stuck inside mostly sedentary the whole time.

I'm over Covid now and back at work, and doing a little exercise. Fully re-focused on plan now too so hopefully this week will see a good loss.

fat13 · 15/06/2021 19:08

My BMI was 42 in January and it’s 31 now. You CAN do this!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 16/06/2021 20:45

I'm still here on my rollercoaster weight loss graph Grin finally hit a steep down after the flat bits.
I'm geeking out over the fact that the low I hit then bounced back from is the same low I hit last year so seems to be some kind of sticky (set?) point for me - hopefully pushed past it now!

Feeling quite motivated just now

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 21/06/2021 20:58

Still bouncing around the same point & have got a cracking migraine that makes me want all the carbs & caffeine Hmm

Calories aren't too bad but I suspect the carbs & exhaustion will kill any loss this week. I hate bloody migraines Angry

Thisseatisnotavailable · 22/06/2021 01:34

Well done Gibbons, I hope the migraines ease soon. I've never suffered from them but I've had a nearly constant headache since I caught Covid a few weeks ago, it's not fun.

I managed a full week 100% plan and lost 5.5lbs this week. I have dropped a bmi bracket down to 'just' being overweight now, and wearing size 14 jeans today :)

How is everyone else doing?

TrinityWaves · 22/06/2021 17:08

Just had rather unattractive photo taken of me on a paddle board! I really do look huge and it's given me some motivation!

I hope the migrane goes away gibbons and the headaches Thisseatisnotavailable

Just seen this thread but realise it's old so wonder if it's still going.
I'm 5"4 , 252lbs, early 30s :(
I started calorie counting last week and lost 2lb first week. Just need to hold onto the motivation to keep constantly tracking as it feels like such a chore. I'm contemplating paying for either MFP or nutracheck, thinking maybe the paid version will be more user friendly and I'll keep it up 🤞🤔 does anyone use nutracheck?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 22/06/2021 21:32

Oh my goodness This that is a cracking loss! Well done. "Just" overweight is an amazing milestone Flowers

Sorry to hear COVID is still having an effect it's a tricky bugger of a virus - weirdly I look forward to the blinding headache part as that means it's nearly over, it's all visual disturbances, upset stomach, dizziness & fatigue for the first few days Grin

Thanks Trinity I hope whoever took said unflattering photo was reprimanded for not deleting quickly! Glad you're using it as motivation though that's very positive.

Hi Space it's an oldie but a goodie Wink
Congratulations on your loss a few weeks like that will add up quickly.
As far as I understand the paid versions give you extra features rather than being more user friendly. I use free MFP & it does get easier as you eventually have most things previously logged so you can just pull them up again.

Not sure what other apps everyone uses?
I like "happy scale" as it averages out my weight in an attempt to smooth out my crazy ups & downs plus it breaks your target into lots of wee targets. I also used to use Fastic lots, I just fast without bothering now as it's such a habit but it was really helpful before.

persnickle · 22/06/2021 21:43

@fat13 wow that's inspiring. What did you do?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 25/06/2021 21:46

STILl bouncing around the same point & I'm really fed up. It makes it all feel so out of my control Sad

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 02/07/2021 22:18

Still bouncing at the same point & mostly feel like slamming my head into a wall... weirdly I do look slimmer, even DH has noticed (& he doesn't notice anything usually), my clothes are loose & my tummy skin is really wrinkly (yuck but good!).

Am restarting & cutting out my beloved cups of tea 😱😭 to see if it makes a difference. I noticed once before that a whole 30 month only resulted in weight loss if I avoided caffeine, also I use oat "milk" which is obviously empty carbs, processed etc

How is everyone else?

(Other than avoiding my moaning? 😬 sorry!)

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 10/07/2021 09:39

I THINK I have got past the bounce point now - have done strict OMAD with a couple of longer fasts (basically mixed OMAD & ADF) this week.
Without delicious tea 😞it's much easier 🤷‍♀️

Swimming on 🙂

TrinityWaves · 11/07/2021 15:40

Hi gibbons, I don't have much to update as I've hit a wall! I'm glad you've got past the bounce point. I find being fat so depressing but just can't seem to keep up the motivation, I'm such a yoyo-er!

Hi Trinity sorry to hear you've hit a wall it's so bloody frustrating.

I often get stuck in a cycle of try to lose, lose for a bit, get stuck then notice all the fat & hate myself then start eating anything not pinned down. Losing a bit of weight always makes me more aware of being fat Confused maybe because it's squishier? 🤮

I'm finding that fixing a time period to do x for is helping me stick with it just now.

Hang in there Smile
