Anyone else at the start of their weight loss journey with a BMI over 40?

I thought starting this thread might make me more accountable.

I'm 5ft 5, weigh 265lbs, I'm in my early 30's.

I'd love to chat to others in a similar position, almost all my friends and extended family are slim! (My DH is also trying to loose weight, lower BMI than me though.)

Thanks @Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons. I just need to keep reminding myself that I can't slack of with the healthy eating and expect to lose the weight. And I do really want to lose weight. So I can have a bit of chocolate every day... But I can't have ALL the chocolate Grin
High five for the mini goal!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 17/05/2021 20:57

High five right back at you Grin

Chocolate has to be very dark or I will just eat it all...

Hope everyone else is doing ok too?
I'm so in the zone just now I wish I could bottle it for the inevitable disaster premenstrual weeks!

Pepsee · 18/05/2021 10:31

Hello everyone! Smile I’ve gone down from 18st5 to 16st10 but now I’m struggling. I’ve got so much more to go, and definitely needing support from people who understand how bloody hard this is!

TrinityWaves · 18/05/2021 14:07

Ergh the rules relaxing hasn't been good for me but I'm still here!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 18/05/2021 18:07

That's a great loss Pepsee - your current weight is my first "big" goal Grin (I'm eating the elephant in wee bites!).

I hope that means the rule changes have brought fun your way TrinityWaves?
In Scotland we've had less changes than you I think. It's been wonderful to be able to take the kids a few more places but my antisocial nature has kept me safe from the socialising!

Likeroses · 18/05/2021 22:17

I'm 4 kg down doing keto 2.5 weeks in now 112 kg hopefully break 110kg then onto 100kg
Goal weight is 68 kg gonna be a long slog.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 19/05/2021 17:04

Definitely a long slog for all of us I think @Likeroses
Are you breaking it into 10kg chunks? I'm a big fan of round numbers but I need my chunks smaller Grin

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 21/05/2021 19:25

Did I kill the thread? Blush 20 pages then I appear & kill it Shock

Anyhoo.... checking in & my Happy Scale app is indeed making me happy this week

Hey well done @Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons ! All good here - seems to be going super slow with about a kg per week. And I don't ever cheat or slip so it does get a bit disheartening! Been busy this week though so not hit the peloton since the weekend. Am on 21kg loss with 31kg to go. Onwards and....downwards...I suppose!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 21/05/2021 21:54

5kg more & you'll be half way @chalkyc2! 🎉

I'm only losing just over a kg a week too despite it being early days so I'm trying not to extrapolate how many years months it will take... I added a longer fast this week (~40 hrs) but also did a couple of shorter than usual ones & I think I might do that more often just to mix things up a bit cos I'm exciting like that HmmGrin

PinkArt · 21/05/2021 23:09

I lost a pound. I CAN do this. 3 pounds away from my pre lockdown weight now

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/05/2021 23:32

A balloon 🎈 in a fortnight.

My bloating is still horrendous. I’m hoping bloat is heavy and when it goes down I’ll have lost another couple of balloons.

I suspect that might not be the case.

Well done to all 🌻

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 22/05/2021 09:46

You sound really positive @PinkArt 🎉

@SheldonesqueTheBstard urgh sorry the bloat is sticking around fingers crossed for a lovely whoosh soon

PinkArt · 22/05/2021 12:09

I lost all this weight once before but had my gall bladder out when I was almost at my goal weight and then just started putting it back on at the rate I had lost it, despite literally no diet changes. So for years I've been quite 'what's the point even trying'. That it seems to be working this time is the biggest relief - it feels like my body is working with me now.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 22/05/2021 14:41

That's fascinating pink (although obviously hugely frustrating for you!) I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that removing part of the digestive system might have a knock on effect on metabolism but I've never considered it before.

I know what you mean about feeling like your body is working WITH you the only way I can seem to stay in that state is to force/drug myself to sleep more that I want Confused

FatCatThinCat · 26/05/2021 07:38

I've been out in the wilderness for a few weeks and am hoping that I'm now back on track. Weigh in day will be interesting.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 26/05/2021 20:19

Hi FatCatThinCat
I suspect learning to find our way back on track is the essential skill!

I had a planned day "off" paleo at the weekend & bloody cheese has been calling to me ever since - I don't particularly like cheese & it makes me feel pretty rubbish but still 🤷‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 28/05/2021 12:16

Well my happy scale SS shows I'm in a blip week Hmm but hurrah for not throwing in the towel & it staying green (just!)
My graph is like a rollercoaster design Grin

Hope everyone is hanging in there Smile

FatCatThinCat · 29/05/2021 08:21

I've lost 1.2 kg this week and am over the moon. Back to heading in the rigt direction.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 29/05/2021 14:27

Oh that's a fabulous week's work FatCatThinCat!
Well done you

FatCatThinCat · 05/06/2021 08:39

I'm 115 kg this week, which is a small gain. I know why and it won't happen again anytime soon (medicine change).

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 05/06/2021 10:49

You sound really in control FatCatThinCat

Despite eating very low cals this week (too hot!) I haven't slept well & have my period so have STS Sad BUT my belly is squishier & my trousers are falling down so I'm chanting "wait for the whoosh" over & over & hanging on.

Really resent that MFP says 1400 a day would get me a 1kg loss a week whilst in reality I'm eating less than 1000 a day to achieve that (& don't eat my exercise back!) grumble grumble Grin

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 06/06/2021 20:55

Slightly unplanned wildcard day today as I ate an ice cream (which I didn't really bloody enjoy!) this afternoon & have been ravenous ever since Confused

Just writing it down here to keep me honest Blush - will fast until at least 4pm tomorrow as I want to be sure it doesn't spread into more days.

Thisseatisnotavailable · 09/06/2021 15:31

I just looked back and my last post was 7 weeks ago and I was talking about going out with friends. I didn't get abducted, but I definitely struggled to find a balance with easing of restrictions and sticking to a plan. So many people to catch up with, plus being super busy at work. And to top it all off I only went and got Covid.

I felt quite rough for a few days but definitely feeling better now. And I'm very glad I'd lost the 4st before I caught it. Now using the rest of my self-isolation to re-set and get back on a plan that I can stick to.

I have managed to lose 7lbs since I was last here, but there was many ups and downs in that period.

I am now 10lbs away from being in the overweight, rather than obese category and I am determined again to focus on that and get there soon.

I've had a read back and I see there's been some successes and some challenges, but great to see so many still here and still continuing with their journey no matter how many twists and turns along the way.

TrinityWaves · 09/06/2021 18:02

I'm still here but I think I've gained it all back, I've been out a fair bit to eat since the rules relaxed and it's even harder to hold back! Still really want to get the weight off though!!
