Morning all! Link to previous month is here:

The December thread - Lose 7lbs/3kg per month! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4097783-The-December-thread-Lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month

All are welcome to join, there's a really good mix of diets and methods and everyone is really helpful and great at motivating each other. December was quiet but that's to be expected! I've gained a couple of pounds over the Christmas period so am starting at 16.4. Would love to be 15.10 by the end of January!

It will be a funny old month for me as I'm hopeful for my op date at some point in January so not really sure how I will go with weight loss but every pound I lose surely will make the operation easier so I'm gonna work really hard at it until I get the date through!

Have a lovely weekend!

Another one who comfort ate/drank thanks to boris and his lockdown, I am not in the UK but I haven't seen my family in 18 months and this announcement means my parents February trip is cancelled. Also not looking likely i'll make it to the UK for easter. Back on track today with calorie counting dinner is salad with grains but unsure what to have for lunch

Lovemusic33 · 06/01/2021 08:41

I’m struggling with getting started with dieting now kids are home and constantly saying “what’s to eat?”. My spin bike arrived yesterday, I’m sat looking at it thinking I should try and do a hour on it this morning 🤣🤔.

I am trying to eat more healthy meals and the last 2 days have been good but there’s still Christmas food knocking around and I’m craving sugar due to being on my period.

Ardagusdubh · 06/01/2021 09:05

Been awake since 2 and eating everything in sight! Still feel awful but now diagnosed and hopefully medication will start helping shortly. I have an overactive thyroid and didn’t imagine the symptoms I would have (also explains the weight loss over nov and dec despite eating like a horseHmm) diet is out the window at the minute, barely sleeping and only managing 2/3000 steps a day as I’m so weak. Fingers crossed I improve soon and can get moving again. Start home schooling tomorrow, should be good craic! Good luck everyone Smile

cricketmum84 · 06/01/2021 09:33

Morning all,

Cheated a little last night with the most gorgeous takeaway from our local restaurant. Although I only ate half and had salad with it so surely that cancels some of it out??

Plan for today is fruit platter for breakfast, yoghurt for lunch and then the other half of the takeaway tonight with more salad!

@Ardagusdubh it's good that you have a diagnosis although I know it's stressful. Be kind to yourself, health is more important than weight loss.

@Deepintheforest I'm only 10 miles from my mum but missing her so much so I can't imagine how hard you must be finding it. Chin up, this can't go on forever x

@recklessgran I have one of those bottomless pits for a DH too. Chips, bread, chocolate... never puts on a pound!! It's so bloody unfair!

Have a lovely Wednesday everyone. Halfway through the week already!

Morning all. Still sticking to keto here - I'm having Greek salad for lunch today as I've got a lot of Feta cheese to use up left over from Christmas. Bacon, egg and mushrooms for dinner tonight.
@Ardagusdubh I really feel for you - I've never felt so ill as I did when my thyroid was out of whack - I have the opposite problem to you - mine is underactive but the medication does sort it out although it took about 3 weeks before I started to feel better. Really hope you feel better soon - keep posting and worry about your diet later!
@cricketmum84 I think you're doing amazingly and should cut yourself some slack - being on a diet of any sort takes your whole strength of mind and doesn't work very well for me at all if there's anything else difficult going on in my world. Enjoy your takeaway and hope you get your op soon.

Dyrne · 06/01/2021 10:03

Morning all, just checking in for a bit of motivation as I’m starving this morning! Am determined to power through until lunch though without snacking.

I’m loving seeing what people’s lunch/dinner plans are but I’m such a picky eater! Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s food plans are more “Heinz tomato soup then some chicken and veg for dinner” Grin I just have zero motivation for salads when it’s this cold.

@Deepintheforest I feel your pain - I’m in the UK but my parents live abroad and it’s now been over a year since I’ve last seen them in person with no end in sight Sad

@cricketmum84 great idea with splitting the takeaway into two meals!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/01/2021 10:35

1lb down this week so total of 48lb lost so far since August.

Finding it more difficult at the moment as due to the cold and dreariness I feel like I'm constantly hungry and want stodgy, line your belly type food.

Have been having bacon, egg and mushrooms for lunch.

Grilled back bacon, mushrooms and egg fried using fry light spray. Comes in at around 200 calories which is pretty good I think.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/01/2021 10:40

Oh and I've name changed. Was FatGirlShrinking.

Might pick up the stuff for casserole when I do the weekly shop and do a big batch for freezer and fridge. If I use loads of veg that generally works out fairly low cal and gives the warming effect.

Ardagusdubh · 06/01/2021 15:02

Thanks @cricketmum84 and @recklessgran, will get back to it when I can and just focus on getting better for now 🤞

TheStirrer · 06/01/2021 16:37

Why am I so ravenous today ..... grrr? Can’t seem to stop eating - have eaten 6 squares f chocolate so far. I have lots of work to do but the kitchen is just calling out to me the whole time. Think I will have to ask hubby to super glue me to my desk chair. Why is stocking to a healthy eating plan so difficult ...Sad

recklessgran · 06/01/2021 17:56

@TheStirrer poor you - try eating some cheese or a slice of ham? This is exactly why I'm on Keto as the minute I eat anything carby I'm ravenous thereafter . I've found for me that high protein stops me being hungry - it might be worth a try.

TheStirrer · 06/01/2021 18:11

Thanks @recklessgran. Sausages now in oven and masses of veg prepped - going for early supper in a bid to stop me scoffing. Will have to follow it with a year on the cross trainer Grin

recklessgran · 06/01/2021 18:16

Cross trainer? Oh dear God no - I'd have to lie down in a darkened room!

Howmanysleepsnow · 08/01/2021 08:15

I’m up 4lb. I think it’s a combination of really low mood (not in a good place at all), DH bringing treat food home “to make me happy” (and acting rejected if I turn it down because I’m on a diet) and hardly leaving the house.
I really need to get back to calorie counting/ steps (yeah, right) and 16:8 but have zero motivation.

poshme · 08/01/2021 10:36

Well I'm attempting 16:8 again. The downside is that before I eat in the mornings (I start eating at 11) I'm really cold. I don't think it's actually that cold, but lack of food makes me feel cold.
And grumpy.

But I've had 2 days with no snacks or alcohol which is good!

poshme · 08/01/2021 10:37

@Howmanysleepsnow I think having to stay at home is really difficult for motivation.

I force me & the kids to go out for a walk after lunch every day. It's not always very far, but we go out.

Tanaqui · 08/01/2021 10:38

I am planning on working up to 16:8 again- this week I wasn't at work so I have focused on doing exercise every day in a hope to boost my mood and my metabolism, so I haven't lost weight but I felt good- and annoyed when it snowed and I had to miss my run! Next week I will start at 12:12 and work my way up!

poshme · 08/01/2021 10:41

@Tanaqui I get stupidly motivated by small things, so I'm using the Fastic app to record my 16:8. Getting a run of 'flames' makes me happy. Sadly I also know how to 'Cheat' and set it to 12:12 when I'm having a bad day... Smile

Mimilondon39 · 08/01/2021 11:24

Hi guys

Please can I join? Well done on all your losses - especially Cricketmum - that's amazing. I've really struggled this week with the homeschooling news - just don't know if I've got it in me to do another two months, but I guess we'll just have to do what we can...I have been exercising most days when I can but I love wine and chocolate. I joined briefly back in May and lost half a stone but then life (and ruddy lockdowns got in the way) so I'm 11st 13 at 5 st 6 - would love to get down to 10st 13 in the next couple of months. Mfp doesn't really work for me as I find it too much of a faff to be on my phone all the time - not sure whether to write my own food journal or to join ww (that is also a faff but it helps with accountability and deadlines which I respond well to!). Any advice much appreciated...

Dyrne · 08/01/2021 11:30

Hi all, checking in. I’m so proud that I’ve managed 7 days now of logging food and keeping below 1200kcals. I’ve also been out for a walk every day - though it was absolutely freezing yesterday and I really had to force myself! Think today will be another chilly one.

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo that mini Fry up sounds fab, can’t believe it’s so few calories! That’s a great loss you’ve had since August.

@Ardagusdubh fingers crossed you feel better soon.

@TheStirrer I know what you mean about fighting those hunger pangs. I keep telling myself it’s normal and ok to feel hungry and I don’t need to eat immediately, but I’m sure I’m much more short tempered in the mornings waiting for lunch!

@Howmanysleepsnow that’s rough that your DP isn’t supportive - have you thought about hinting about things other than food if he wants to “make you happy”?

@poshme I’ve been feeling the cold much more too! Am huddled up to my fan heater as we speak Grin

@Tanaqui good plan working your way into fasting. Laying down the groundwork of good habits and getting daily exercise is a great start.

Ecci · 08/01/2021 12:01

Weigh in today, I've lost 1.4lbs in the last week. Pleased about that as we had a bit of a feast on New Year's Day to eat up all the Christmas food.
Welcome, @Mimilondon39 We are about the same stage. I'm 5 ft 5 inches and 11 st 7 lbs today, aiming to lose about another stone. I want to get to a BMI of less than 24.5. When I started, in August 2019, I was 15st 12.4lbs, so I've been doing it slowly but it works for me. I keep a food diary, just write down what I've eaten each day. I don't weigh and measure everything, too much of a faff, but I measure things like muesli and porridge and I try to have an idea of how many calories I have for each meal. I try to have lots of fruit and veg, and stick to low fat and not too much carb. I made an experimental lentil and vegetable bake yesterday, was delicious and very filling.

poshme · 08/01/2021 12:07

Well done @Ecci !

recklessgran · 08/01/2021 12:17

Afternoon all. I've managed to stay on the keto wagon since Monday and so far no carb cravings which is a miracle. I love reading everybody's posts about all our different approaches to the same problem. @Howmanysleepsnow I'm so sorry you feel low - keep posting though won't you - this is a lovely supportive thread and we'll all still be here to cheer you on when you feel more like getting back to it, in the meantime hugs and a handhold to you! @Mimilondon39 I keep a food diary where I write my weight [I'm a daily weigher] and all my food intake for the day. It's quite motivating and works for me anyway. It also helps if I feel tempted as I don't want to "blot my copy book" by recording something that I shouldn't have eaten IYSWIM. I'm about to do some baking as I'll be doing a welfare visit to both DM88 and DD1 later [caring duties] so will take them a slice of Victoria sandwich and a couple of cupcakes each. Infuriatingly DH will demolish the rest without any impact on his waistline whatsoever! Have as good a day as you can all.

Mimilondon39 · 08/01/2021 13:21

Ah that’s really helpful thank you. I will start keeping a diary - then no need to faff on my phone ! Sending hugs to HowManysleeps - it hasn’t been the best start to 2021 and I think we are all on our knees right now. Try for a warm bath and watching some comedy tonight - that always cheers me up x

cricketmum84 · 08/01/2021 13:45

Hey everyone,

Giddy giddy day for me as I weighed in at 15.13!! I'm in the 15s!!!! It seems to be dropping very fast this month as I'm already 5lbs down since 1st Jan. I am being very strict on MFP though and sticking below my calorie goal.

Nice one @Ecci well done :) lentil and veg bake sounds lovely!

Welcome back @Mimilondon39 :) lovely to see you again!

Found out yesterday I am being furloughed from next Friday until some point in March when gyms reopen. Good news really as my contract was due to end 31st Jan so they have extended it just to furlough me so I have some income and security which is good of them. Not sure what exactly I'm going to do with myself!!
