Morning all! Link to previous month is here:

The December thread - Lose 7lbs/3kg per month! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4097783-The-December-thread-Lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month

All are welcome to join, there's a really good mix of diets and methods and everyone is really helpful and great at motivating each other. December was quiet but that's to be expected! I've gained a couple of pounds over the Christmas period so am starting at 16.4. Would love to be 15.10 by the end of January!

It will be a funny old month for me as I'm hopeful for my op date at some point in January so not really sure how I will go with weight loss but every pound I lose surely will make the operation easier so I'm gonna work really hard at it until I get the date through!

Have a lovely weekend!

Hi everyone.

I have been lurking for a while but I'm jumping on board as I need to get back on track.

CW 13st13
GW for Jan is 13st5

Mainly calorie counting and moving more. Im also aiming to do Dry January this month so we will see how that goes.

Gorgeous puppy @recklessgran

Hope you hear about the op soon @cricketmum84

Lovemusic33 · 02/01/2021 17:48

I am joining for a bit of moral support. I have no idea how much I weigh, I don’t own scales, I usually weigh at the gym but haven’t been since March, I’m guessing I’m around 10.5 stone as my clothes are getting snug. I usually keep pretty fit but due to covid and not being in the gym for most of the year I have gained weight, I’m pretty active and managed to keep fit (ish) during the summer but now things are trickier. I need to start eating better and exercise more. I’m starting spin next week when my spin bike gets delivered and am hoping to walk more when the weathers dry. I usually go vegan for January but I’m not sure if I can cope with out cheese this year 🤣. Most diets I can’t stick too so I just go for a “eat more healthy” approach and try and eat healthy meals, cut out the rubbish type thing.

Hoping to be back in my jeans by the end of the month and then maybe down another size by March.

Tanaqui · 03/01/2021 08:11

He is adorable! And does look very cocker. How lovely!

Dyrne · 03/01/2021 09:22

@recklessgran aww what a cutie! I know what you mean about being a fair weather Walker - I’ve been out every day for the last week, but it hasn’t been raining - not sure how motivated I’ll be when the weather turns again! I have got an indoor exercise bike that I’ll have to dust off to keep moving i suppose - and I definitely need the practice as I went out just for a 20km bike ride yesterday and my legs (and arse) were aching all evening!

@cricketmum84 I’m always so impressed with people that snack on chocolate in moderation. I don’t do moderation and need to completely cut chocolate and booze out this month if I have any hope of keeping on track!

Although I have done some experimenting and discovered that I can replace my usual calorific cider with some gin and diet lemonade and save 160 calories so that’s definitely a winner when I’m done with dry January!

crivit · 03/01/2021 09:33

Hello again.

Dipping back into the thread after a little time away. Weight has crept up a bit although miraculously remained (just) under 70kg. As in 69.9kg 😬

Struggling with motivation. Back at work tomorrow and not feeling great about it as my pain levels have increased over the festive break. Feel like it was completely wasted.

Ah well, could be worse. Started the year yesterday with a lovely walk and a goodly bit of yoga. Hoping to get some yoga in today as well.

Sorry to hear about your upcoming op @cricketmum84 - had me wincing! As a fellow rare condition person I sometimes wonder why I can't hit those kind of odds on the lottery instead >

Howmanysleepsnow · 03/01/2021 09:33

Welcome to all the new joiners!
@recklessgran how cute!!!
I made a tentative effort to get back on the diet yesterday, though went a bit astray and ended up on 1450 calories so only just under my maintenance. I didn’t manage 16:8: the 16 but was fine but the 8 hours turned into 10! Must try harder... need to up my steps too as I only managed 8500 yesterday and want at least 15000.

poshme · 03/01/2021 09:55

Can I join? Was doing quite well in November/December doing 16:8 and lost 4lb, but sadly regained over Christmas.

Starting again today. The battle is cheese & wine for me, and snacking.
And wfh means I'm far less active, so need motivation to move more!

Current weight 10stone 7. Aiming for 9 stone 6.

cricketmum84 · 03/01/2021 11:32

Morning all! Am really struggling with appetite at the moment, I have no idea what to make for dinner. I'm the only vegetarian in the house so regularly eat something different from the rest of the family. Might have a scroll through a couple of recipe books and see if anything inspires me!

Down to 16.3 today so first Christmas pound gone already!

@poshme cheese and wine are my nemesis! Especially baked Camembert with crusty bread....

Welcome back @crivit :) sorry to hear about the increase in pain levels. There is nothing worse than being in pain for a long time.

@Dyrne don't worry it's nothing to do with motivation - I'm just not that big a fan of chocolate and can take it or leave it. Now stick a plate of cheese and Greggs vegan rolls in front of me and there's no stopping me 😂

@Lovemusic33 I keep trying to go vegan but the cheese is the only thing that stops me! I can't live without it.

Have a lovely relaxing Sunday everyone!

Keha · 03/01/2021 12:27

I'm back at work tomorrow, after maternity leave and have to take a lunch box. Any inspiration for some thing filling and good for me? I know I eat at work when I'm bored. I'm going to make sure I have no change for the vending machine!

JessJonesJumps · 03/01/2021 12:53

Belated happy new year everyone! Threads I'm On keeps disappearing if I'm not on every day so I keep losing you all.

I thought I hadn't gone overboard too much over Christmas but the scales say differently Xmas Blush

I'm doing 30 Days of Yoga - aiming to lose 4lbs this month.

@recklessgran your puppy is gorgeous. MiniJJJ would be very jealous.

cricketmum84 · 03/01/2021 13:03

@Keha have you got a microwave at work? I haven't been in the office since the start of the first lockdown but I used to take in a portion of leftovers from the night before like chilli and rice or a tin of chunky vegetable soup.

StarfishExpress · 03/01/2021 13:48

Hello everyone - can I join please? I want to do a 90 day push to get to goal weight of 9 st 4. I'm at roughly 10 st now and just have the last bit to go. Finding this last part the hardest! Adorable puppies @recklessgran and sorry to hear about your op @cricketmum84 good luck everyone. No real plan for me, but seeking a bit of accountability!

AThousandTimesYes · 04/01/2021 06:14

Hi can I also join in? I weighed on the 2nd and was 14st1.8, would love 7lb off a month.

I'm on day 3 of a squat challenge and am calorie counting with mfp. Dh is doing it too but he gets more calories than I do and only has to think diet and he's lost a stone so I'm going to really struggle seeing it come so easy for him. (Even when he's helping he's not!)

Deepintheforest · 04/01/2021 07:05

Hello all, I'm back (under a slight name change) completely fell off the wagon in December and didn't even try but starting over and DP is on board this time so hopefully that will help a lot as I can make lower calorie meals without complaints and having to make 2 things. Currently putting together a couple of weeks worth of dinner menus to keep us on track. I'm still going with the running but planning to up that and also drag DP on some walks a few times a week. Scales are still very much misbehaving but I think i'm back where I started in October at around 75kg

NatMoz · 04/01/2021 07:19

I'm 5"6 and 11st 12.

I'm aiming for 11 stone so I can fit nicely into a dress for a wedding that may not happen in April!

I've been doing REDjanuary (exercise every day in Jan). Today I'll do a 6-7 mile run. I'm an active and fit person but food is my downfall

Smarshian · 04/01/2021 07:44

Morning all! I’ve weighed in this morning at 10st13.75lb.
No exact plan for a specific diet but just trying to be mindful about what I’m eating and only eating when hungry. Hoping for a slow and steady and sustainable loss.
First goal will be to be 10st9lb, which I’m hoping for by my birthday (27th Jan)

Howmanysleepsnow · 04/01/2021 09:25

I’m getting back on track slowly. I managed 16:8 yesterday and 1250 calories, plus 12,000 steps.
16:8 is a write off already today as I had cottage cheese at 6am (bed at midnight, up since 3 as the car alarm keeps going off and my littlest ds had tummy ache). I’m so tired I feel sick and thought eating might help. I’m going to try not to eat anything else until 2pm but my willpower is right down!
Weighed in at 10st for the third day in a row. I’d hoped this Christmas weight would go as quickly as it came but it appears to want to hang around.

Dyrne · 04/01/2021 10:04

Weighed myself this morning as I want Monday to be my regular weigh in day. Chuffed to see I’ve already lost 1.2kgs! I know it’ll be all water weight but it’s a nice little boost nonetheless and I’m happy to at least be heading in the right direction! Only about 25kgs left to go Grin

The main thing really is getting a handle of my out of control eating and drinking - I’m feeling pretty tired but hopefully my body will adapt to the “new normal” of 1200kcals a day.

First day back at work (WFH) and hoping I’ll be able to get out for a walk at lunchtime if the weather holds.

@AThousandTimesYes I know what you mean about infuriating DP’s - mine is literally a foot taller than me so can eat so much more than I can - it’s not fair!

@Howmanysleepsnow I’m doing 16:8 and ~1200 calories as well! I may dip into 5:2 depending on how things go, but focusing on getting into the habit of logging everything and planning out calories first.

Hello to everyone else!

recklessgran · 04/01/2021 11:19

Morning all - fresh start for me.
Start weight 12 st 11.25lbs
That is a stone and a half less than this day last year so trying not to beat myself up about the stone I've gained since I fell off the thread back in September.
Goal is 11st 4lbs which will give me a half stone leeway on the top of the healthy BMI for my height which is 11st 11lbs.
Starting 16:8 and keto which I know seems to be the only thing that works for me with my underactive thyroid and other medication I have to take.
Tuna and tomatoes for lunch and sausage, pepper and mushroom cheesy bake for dinner. [Recipe on Kalyn's kitchen if anyone is interested]
Exercise will be minimal to start with until I get in the swing of it.
Have a good day all - will report back later hoping to stay on the wagon due to accountability here.

cricketmum84 · 05/01/2021 08:32

Morning all! Well back to full on lockdown again. How is everyone feeling?

Lovely to see another drop on the scales today. Down to 16.0 which means I've lost 9st and 2lbs in total. Really hoping to see the 15s very soon!

Welcome to all the new joiners since yesterday 🥰

OP posts:
poshme · 05/01/2021 09:13

I'm afraid that Boris ruined 16:8 yesterday as I just sat and ate cheese.
New day today!

Aiming to make my daily exercise really count. Last lockdown I got really quite fit- but it wasn't cold then.

Howmanysleepsnow · 05/01/2021 09:51

@poshme Boris did similar to me yesterday. I comfort ate and opened the bottle of champagne left over from Christmas. My steps were right down too.
Still 10stone and going to struggle with step count under new lockdown. On the plus side, I’ll eat less as I’m not sure how we’ll afford food! Oh well, we’ve got through it before...
Am off to pick up a laptop from ds school so that’ll get some steps in anyway, and will also walk the dog.

Dyrne · 05/01/2021 10:01

Morning! I managed to avoid diving head first into the booze and chocolates last night, but only just! What a mess. At least we’re still allowed out for daily exercise as I’ve only just gotten into the swing of things!

Have also dusted the cobwebs off the exercise bike so hopefully that will give a bit of a boost as well. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I just can’t manage early morning exercise and will be much more motivated after work - a shame as I was hoping to get it out of the way in the mornings but I just feel too tired and ick.

@recklessgran good plan to not try and overload yourself too much - weight loss is something like 90% diet anyway so if you get that sorted before adding in exercise you’ll be well on the way!

@cricketmum84 your weight loss is absolutely amazing! Really gives me hope for the 5-odd stone I need to shift!

@poshme I know what you mean about the outside exercise now - it was lovely back in the spring going for walks in the sunshine but it’s much less inviting now that it’s cold, wet and muddy!

recklessgran · 05/01/2021 10:31

Morning all. I'm pleased to be able to report that I managed to stick to my plan yesterday. My plan for today is egg mayo and cress for lunch and chicken salad for dinner tonight. If I need a snack I'll have a few of the left over Christmas nuts. I'm ignoring the big bowl of assorted leftover chocolates that DH is working his way through. How does he stay so skinny?
I'm really feeling for all you with home ed to worry about as well as working - I have no idea how on earth you manage it.. If I still had my 5DD's at home my school would be on special measures with immediate effect I can assure you! I don't think this lockdown will have much impact for DH and I since we haven't really been doing anything much for months apart from caring for DM and DD1 who both need extra help. We've had to be extra careful as DH has a history of Non Hodgkins lymphoma. I think we'll be O.K. although DH is driving me nuts - I'm normally very laid back but I've shouted at him this morning for not cleaning up properly after an overnight puppy accident. Apparently locating the Dettol requires a sat nav. He's taken Ludo for a walk whilst I calm down. Hope everyone else is enjoying domestic bliss whilst I'm eyeing up the patio....... Have a good day all.

CumbrianExile · 05/01/2021 16:01

Hey All

Thankfully Boris didn't make me dive head first into the vodka and chocolate - although I was very tempted.

Still managing to stick to my calories and Dry January - even after day one of home school. Will see how it goes when I am doing it whilst back in work on Thursday though :D
