So I’m fed up of being fat, and it’s time to take action.
Lately my skin has been a mess and periods have stopped, I’ve had numerous tests and it looks like obesity is the cause 😩.
I am so embarrassed but fuck it.
I am currently 30, 5’4 and weigh 18 stone.
I’d like to get down to 10 stone eventually but even a stone or two would motivate me.
As of tomorrow no more shit!

Would anyone like to join?
Wether you have a lot (like me!) or a little to lose!

Had a good day today, i'm 380 cals under my target. Anyone elses mfp calorie target seem quite high? Mines set at 1650 which I thought was high to loose weight?
Managed to put the biscuits down after eating 2 of them, usually I would eat 1/2 the packet then go back for more later.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 18/08/2020 10:16

@Minnie123456 My MFP is 1230.
Are you tall? I’m only 5’2” with a small (fat encrusted) frame.
Wondering if taller people get more calories.

I have to admit I feel hungry quite a lot of the time but past experience tells me in a week that will pass.
My body is used to me overeating.

waitingforadulthood · 18/08/2020 11:13

Can I join? I'm 5"4 and 15stone. I've spent the last week on mfp truely logging what I was eating. Never lower than 2500 and on weekends add an extra 908cals for a bottle of wine and more for extra jelly sweet snacks. I'm ashamed and it was harder to log what I ate honestly than it has been to choose to change. I've been counting and aiming at 1560 a day for the minute, which comparably to what I have been eating is not much, but it's achievable and I can't risk setting a goal I won't achieve. My husband and I are on day 2 of the 30 day shred and I can barely move, but am determined to keep on.

In light of the eat out to help out scheme drawing me out of the house- what does everyone think are the best options in restaurant meals? Stick to salads (but they'd usually have plenty of dressing and seeds to add to the cals) fish? I'm due to eat out tomorrow and am already worried about failing at the first hurdle Blush

RuudGullitOnAShed · 18/08/2020 14:06

@waitingforadulthood - I dread to think what my calorie count was before I started trying to lose weight. Probably 3000+

I've weighted and I've lost 3.5lb in 5 days - however I realise that is probably because I changed from holiday in a hotel and eating huge meals to strict calorie counting.
I'm sure that weight loss will slow down.

tibni · 18/08/2020 17:29

@waitingforadulthood I've never thought to log a 'normal' day. What an excellent way to really understand why we are putting the weight on.
@RuudGullitOnAShed well done on the loss Smile. I'm determined not to keep jumping on the scales this time. This is long term and about health.

waitingforadulthood · 18/08/2020 18:18

Yep- it's eye opening to be sure. 1 Cadbury rose sweet is 48 cals and who's ever eaten less than five? A can of coke 142. Jelly babies 28cals each. McCoy's 148 cals. Not to mention every time I have bread and butter with dinner I'm throwing an extra 200 cals away. Sugar in tea. My normal mac and cheese is 870 cals for one meal- with no veg! (You can tear your own recipes on mfp to work out cals per portion) Eating the last two chicken nuggets that the kids leave on a plate 95 cals- I didn't want them, wasn't hungry and shoved them in as though I was a better bin than, well, the bin.

So many empty calories, so much pointless needless eating. I'm perfectly happy to blow my calories on something properly delicious, but looking over the week- I didn't really have anything worth making myself this unhealthy for. The delicious food can be eaten within the 1500 I've allowed. The excess cals are all mindless. I'm somewhat ashamed. But certain a wake up call.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 18/08/2020 19:40

Those empty calories are a killer.
I can eat 100g of cheese if I'm grating it, and I was using the biscuit tin as a stop off point whenever I went into the kitchen

DH also needs to lose weight so we agreed to do it together - he too has lost a couple of lbs but I don't think he's quite in the zone yet as he asked if he should pick up some Pain Au Chocolat when he popped into M&S at 253 calories each (and we always eat 2 a piece) I don't think they quite fit in with the new regime

tibni · 18/08/2020 19:45

@waitingforadulthood please don't feel ashamed although I do understand why you feel that way.
Food can be such a minefield of guilt and emotion rather than an ordinary part of life. I know I need to sort my relationship out with food and start eating for health not as a reward.

Minnie123456 · 18/08/2020 22:09

No i'm not tall @RuudGullitOnAShed i'm only about 5ft 2 or 3. I think i'll go through all my settings to make sure i've entered it all correctly. I'm trying to stay under target incase it's wrong. I know what you mean about feeling hungry, my stomach feels empty even though it's not.

@waitingforadulthood I know how you feel I snack on my daughters leftovers as I feel bad about throwing them out. I never eat 4 biscuits as it doesn't seem enough but I have to eat an even number so I eat 6 or 8. One bad day turns into 2 or 3 then I feel theres no point trying as the week is nearly over so I tell myself i'll start again next week but I never stick to it.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 18/08/2020 22:22

@Minnie123456 I’ve actually altered my settings so I get 1450 Calories a day.
I had the rate set at 1.5lb a week and I’ve changed it to 1lb a week.

I’m going to aim to eat 1200 a day but I have wriggle room without feeling guilty.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 19/08/2020 10:10

Morning everyone. I've been away for a few days but have just caught up.

Well done on the losses but also well done to everyone reflecting on what they eat. For me, half the problem has been understanding what to eat to make me full but feel like I have enjoyed what I have eaten.

NeverTwerked I love your goal. It is the sort of thing that will bring you so much joy/fun. Mine are a bit boring, but I have 3 dresses (I don't usually keep things that don't fit). One is a size 14 (I am an 18/20), one is a size 10 so my goal is to fit into them as time goes on. They made me feel fanastic wearing them. The other is a dress DH bought for my birthday about 11 years ago after I had lost weight (with WW that time) and I wore at at my birthday on holiday with all my family. I have a big birthday next summer and I want to wear that dress.

Adulthood eating out we do a lot (and takeaway). Takeaway sometimes I have it and sometimes I don't and I just try to eat less of it. Eating out I have whatever I want, but I naturally like fish for example but it obv can come with creamy sauce or he potatoes are creamy etc. My advice is to eat well around eating out. I enjoy the act of eating out so I try not to deprive myself. I only order dessert if it is something I love or have a sorbet if I fancy. Otherwise Iwill have homemade salad for lunch or boiled eggs or something and try to ensure I get out for a walk. I also would not have any carbs with my breakfast or lunch and save them for dinner. I don't log it on MFP, I just try to keep the other meals down to enjoy it.

Someone mentioned cheese and actually I made myself a lovely lunch the other day with brie, manchego, grapes, cured meat, grapes. I just measured everything and I really enjoyed it and was full. 343 cals in total.

I signed up to a virtual challenege (race at your pace) and am walking everyday on a large outdoor space nearby with some nice hills etc. I am managing about 4 miles a day at the moment and have walked almost 90 miles in August so far. It really makes me feel amazing and occasionally I throw in a week 1 or 2 couch25K run/walk.

I've occasionally stepped on the scales and it is going down but I havent looked closely at the number because I want to weigh in monthly officially at the moment.

I did have KFC with the kids yesterday after they begged and regretted it - it wasn't actually something worth wasting calories on.

Good luck all, let's keep going.

waitingforadulthood · 19/08/2020 11:03

Mercedes- thanks for the advice.

I'm out tonight and have avoided the carbs this morning, and cal counted lunch. I know what I'm ordering and have worked a rough count for it and added it in. I am over but have done the shred again today and (if it stops raining!) will walk 5km with the dogs before we go out.

My mini goal (great idea!)
1- when I have lost 2 inches or 7lb (whichever happens first) to buy an outfit in the size below mine
2- to then lose enough to fit in it

I don't want to buy an outfit yet until I've proven to myself that I CAN lose weight. The buying of an outfit knowing I can then lose a little more to fit into it, for me, is a great motivator. Good luck all.

Minnie123456 · 19/08/2020 22:06

I've figured it out @RuudGullitOnAShed my activity level is set to lightly active as i'm quite active in my job. I'm going to leave the target as it is but still try and stay under it.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 19/08/2020 22:37

@Minnie123456 good idea - that way you stand more chance of being under your count and for me that’s a real physiological boost!

I went shopping today and only bought food for planned meals and fruit. Normally I buy crisps, cakes etc as a matter of course.
I’d like to say I saved a fortune but I still seemed to be spending loads!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 20/08/2020 08:19

Well a punnet of strawberries costs £2 and lasts about 45 secs in this house so I can see how it all adds up.

I did a passing through the bathroom weigh in and I’m definitely going down, I tried not to focus on the actual number until weigh in day.

basilika · 20/08/2020 09:03

Morning all, I've been absent for a while, visiting family, but I've still been good.
Couldn't weigh in on Monday, but this morning I was 7lb down from my start just over 2 weeks ago.
I'm trying to make strawberries my new chocolate! 1 square of dark chocolate is equivalent to a lot of strawberries. Also managed to not drink much when away, which made it much easier to stay within my calories.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 20/08/2020 09:16

Well done, that’s an amazing loss!

I’m off for my daily walk.
Have a good one everyone.

ScattyNat83 · 20/08/2020 09:33

Count me in too! I've been faffing about for far too long!

RuudGullitOnAShed · 20/08/2020 11:28

Well done @basilika that’s a great result.
Especially if you’ve been away from home as I always find that a more difficult situation.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 21/08/2020 12:43

I’ve opted for a chicken Kiev for lunch with beans. I just fancy it and have forgone the chips. It means I’ve left no room for snacking or a cup of coffee (still having sugar) but I’m just going to enjoy it.

Managed 6 mile walk today as my usual route was closed off due to wind so I got lost.

waitingforadulthood · 21/08/2020 14:08

Mercedes- well done on the walk and the omission of chips. I think denying yourself the whole thing and feeling bad for not leaving extra cals would be counter productive- if the changes are to be long term it's building healthier habits that will really have an impact.

I'm on my weekly weigh in and have lost a 1lb which is okay- but I've lost 2inches off my waist hips and chest which I'm thrilled about. Would have been disappointed with the single pound, but seeing the actual inches gone has lifted my spirits no end.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 21/08/2020 14:14

2 inches, that is loads. Well done.

I've avoided measuring because I didn't do it at the beginning, but since I still have 4 stone to go it will be worth it.

What do you think has made the difference?

waitingforadulthood · 21/08/2020 14:40

Maybe the exercise, (I've done 4 shreds) as I think that without the weight loss it must be my body structure changing. That said, I am eating much much less (1560 cals per day instead of 2500!) and what I am eating is much much healthier. So a combination.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 21/08/2020 15:00

I think I have a bit of wiggle room today because I am doing 1,200 cals plus I did exercise so have had a coffee and a treat, but only over by 100 cals once I have my dinner which I have already accounted for.

How do you feel? The weirdest and most surprising (though I don't know why I am surprised) is that I feel really good. I can feel that my walking/running leggings no curl around my waist but stay put and my belly is definitely (still there) but going down. My arthritis (in my foot) is much more manageable with my walking/C25K when I have always previously needed a break between even walking around a shopping centre I am now going everyday and have hit my 100 mile target today - I'm definitely signing up for Sept. Today I walked up a massive hill that I absolutely could not speak whilst walking and needed a break at the top and just a month later I walked up today with an accelrated heart rate but was fine. I'm almost finding these things more motivating than the actual weight loss.

Minnie123456 · 23/08/2020 08:54

Well done to everyone that has lost. @MercedesDeMonteChristo well done on the walking.
Lost 1 1/2lbs this week, wee bit disappointed but tbh I relaxed a bit from Thursday evening, i'm off work this week so i'm going to try and go out walking.
