So I’m fed up of being fat, and it’s time to take action.
Lately my skin has been a mess and periods have stopped, I’ve had numerous tests and it looks like obesity is the cause 😩.
I am so embarrassed but fuck it.
I am currently 30, 5’4 and weigh 18 stone.
I’d like to get down to 10 stone eventually but even a stone or two would motivate me.
As of tomorrow no more shit!

Would anyone like to join?
Wether you have a lot (like me!) or a little to lose!

@Minnie123456 - at least it was a loss. If you’d gained1.5lb you’d be 3lb heavier than you are now!

I’ve lost 4lb this week. But I know it will slow down.

Still, it’s a positive start.
The best thing is that I’ve stopped feeling ravenous all the time - I’m eating three balanced meals with a fruit and veg afternoon snack which is a huge change from my constant snacking and eating high calorie meals.

We had fish and chips yesterday (planned into calorie count) and I felt awful afterwards!

Starlightstarbright1 · 23/08/2020 11:14

I have had a tough week emotionally and resorted to comfort food.

On Friday i had ham and cheese toadtie, 2 slices of cake and wine.

I was at 2am with stomach cramps so was back on it yesterday.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 23/08/2020 15:02

I think that is sensible, fish and chips is fine when planned, though it is funny how food now makes us feel. I am out for lunch and drinks this week and DH is a little hungover so has offered to buy Indian tonight. I would normally have a biryani and a side dish but I think I am going to go for a grill and add a salad. It doesn't even feel like much of a decision.

I've been for a C25K week 2 run, a short walk and managed 8 widths (it is a very big pool so 27 metres for a width). The swimming was the hardest, I can only front crawl half way then have some very poor breaststroke resembling thing. We've booked to go again next week and I am going to try for 12 and to get further without resorting to breaststroke.

I absolutely agree a loss is a loss. I was aiming to weigh in monthly as I like seeing a real difference, but I always cave so have opted for fortnightly for official weigh in.

Starlight interestingly I had an almost cramp free period this month. I don't know if eating fresh and healthier made a difference but I also haven't had a migraine, even menstrual for 6 weeks either. Cramps are the worse and my craving for savoury food like crisps which I dont eat otherwise goes through the roof.

I am really quite excited that the scales will now start with the number 13 which is two below where I started as I was 15 stone on 7 July.

Keep it up everyone.

Hi all, I'm back from holiday and just reading through all your fab successes! I didn't log or restrict anything over the holiday and it definitely shows on the scales, but that's fine, I decided before I went not to worry about it.

Back on it today, been for my walk first thing, waited until 8am for my breakfast and going to do some yoga later.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 25/08/2020 09:02

Welcome back @Submariner I hope you had a lovely holiday. I think not dieting on holiday is always a good decision!
My Tesco delivery is coming today - I’m aiming to do some batch cooking so that when I go back to work I don’t succumb to bad eating habits because I’m tired and short of time.

Submariner · 25/08/2020 09:12

Thanks Ruud, it was lovely!

I love batch cooking. I find it really helps me with portion control and making healthy choices too. If I know I have something healthy lined up I'm more likely to eat it. I need to do a bit of batch making breakfasts and lunches ready for when the kids are in school and I'm home alone working with all the temptations!!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 25/08/2020 10:13

I’m working from the kitchen and it’s very tempting all the time. I’ve just stopped buying stuff so at least if I reach for a snack it has a chance of being healthier.

It’s raining here but I’m still going to go out for my walk this afternoon. Even if I just get wet.

Working from the home meant my eating habits became even worse than normal. Every time I entered the kitchen I had something to eat ... a piece of cheese ... packet of crisps ... biscuits.

Hopefully I’ve managed to break the snack cycle. When I go back to work I’m going to aim to have only healthy stuff available and ignore the cake and chocolate mountain in the staff room.

dalecooper · 25/08/2020 11:29

Hi all. Working from home is hard - I have worked from home for the last three years and you do find yourself mindlessly eating.

First weigh in today and 7lbs down. First week is always good but it is a good boost to see the weight drop on the scales.

I swear that not eating too late in the day (definitely not any later than 7pm) and trying to decrease your carbs really helps.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 25/08/2020 12:25

That is an amazing loss, it is such a boost when you see it. I'm weighing fortnightly/monthly because it really helps me to see a decent loss whereas because my scales are not digital I sometimes have to really squint to see if I have lost 1lb and I definitely cannot see .5. Well done!!

I agree, I've limited my refined carbs to once a day, so if I have toast then I can't have rice for dinner. I eat lots of chickpeas, fruit etc so I get my carbs from there.

Can i ask what everyone eats for breakfast? I've got into a habit of eating granola and yoghurt everyday which is really filling me up but I am conscious that granola is very sugary. ATM I also have boiled eggs with heck sausages, turkey bacon and tomatoes for a filling protein breakfast but thinking about quick things once DC are back at school?

RuudGullitOnAShed · 25/08/2020 12:34

When I’m working I usually have porridge and fruit as a quick breakfast.
We stick it in the Aga to cook overnight. I am seriously considering eating something else (maybe toast and peanut butter) and taking the porridge with me to eat for lunch - mainly because I struggle to eat first thing.

dalecooper · 25/08/2020 13:59

I have really got back into porridge. I have cut out dairy so make it with almond or oat milk. I mix in some cinnamon and if I am feeling like I can spare the calories then I have some flaked almonds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds on top.

I also am very reliant on eggs. Scrambled eggs are great and then you can mix in anything else - some ham, some spinach, a few chopped tomatoes, some chilli flakes - whatever you have.

I am hoping that I can keep the momentum going for my second week.

This morning I had 3 x ryvita with crunchy peanut butter (WholeEarth - no added sugar)

Just had brown rice with asparagus, serrano ham and chilli all cooked up together in a pot.

Tonight will be something small as am trying not to eat to heavily at night - although last night had roast lamb and it had lots of fat on (which I ate).

Maybe something like an omlette tonight.
Aiming for a three pound loss this week.

dalecooper · 25/08/2020 14:02

I bought some digital scales a couple of years ago and they are so much better than my old ones with a dial that you had to squint at. These new ones don't tell you your body fat etc they just tell your weight but they are really accurate down to the last ounce. Really worth the money if you can justify buying new ones.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 25/08/2020 15:03

I second digital scales - and also kitchen digital scales.
My portion control is part of the problem so now I am weighing everything to train myself into knowing what a normal amount is.

catchingzzzeds · 25/08/2020 15:31

Can I join please?
I started 3 weeks ago weighing in at 14st 7lbs and I've lost 10lbs so far. I'm 5'2" so have a lot to lose. I'm using MFP and I'm finding that great.
I'm struggling to think of low calorie meals that I will enjoy and look forward to.
Incidentally, I read all your posts and then at the bottom of the thread is a McDonald's ad Grin

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 25/08/2020 16:09

I do have digital kitchen scales and am using it religiously. For reasons I am not clear on I decided it would be better to buy old school pharmacy type scales. Definitely regretting it. I think it was to see the dial move, and yes I recognise that is bonkers!

I’ve had
-granola and natural yogurt

  • 3 spinach and kale falafel and natural yoghurt
  • having soup for dinner with some buttered whole meal bread
  • some boiled eggs are in the fridge if I need a snack and cherry tomatoes and I had a cappuccino on my walk.

I’m having a pretty low cal day today so I can enjoy a lunch out tomorrow and have drinks Thursday which will prob have some impact on Friday.

I have sort of promised myself that if I have two really good days (yesterday and today) plus get my exercise in that I can have a fry up on Friday. It should be fine as I’m exercising everyday and keeping me count where it should be.

catchingzzzeds · 25/08/2020 16:13

Do you find the granola and yoghurt filling? I need to think of breakfast ideas to can eat at my desk when I return to work next week.

Submariner · 25/08/2020 16:49

Hi catching! Welcome in.

I'm definitely team digital scales, for food and me. Makes it so much easier to use things like MFP accurately.

I love overnight oats for breakfast. I try to make up 5 jars worth at a time and I can weigh it all/pre-log so I don't have to faff in the morning. There are loads of recipes online. I also like to make it up in the ends of jam/peanut butter etc to add variety.

I am hoping to pre-make and log some dhals and soups too soon. I find it so much easier for planning how many calories I have left for dinner.

dalecooper · 25/08/2020 17:28

To be perfectly honest I am not always having three meals a day. I suppose I am inadvertently intermittent fasting because often I won't have my first meal until mid-morning or lunch and then will eat again in the evening. Not always, some mornings I am ravenous and need to eat, but generally I don't eat straight away.

Would it be easy to take natural yoghurt and some berries to work?

I am trying to stick to meals of lots of veg chopped up, then some meat or fish and then some carb. So for example, the other day I chopped up and sauteed some chicken breasts and then added leek, courgette, an orange pepper, garlic, chilli, some smoked paprika and then cooked up some pasta and added it in and mixed it all together and that was it.

Today was a rice and veg and protein dish for lunch.

Last night was roast lamb with jacket potoato (no butter) and broccoli.

Sort of like a tick list of Veg, protein and carb but you can drop the carb if you like or if you have had carbs for lunch you might not want it for supper and vice versa.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 25/08/2020 18:09

I find granola and yoghurt really satisfying and filling all the way until lunch. My work is research based so I'll mostly be at home or a library once I can get slots/they are open so I can come home after the school run and eat, but I'd rather eat when the kids are eating as I am one of those odd people who can and needs to eat almost as soon as I get up. I just want to mix it up really.

I'm going to look up overnight oats recipes... I once did the slimming world recipe and that was ok, but if there are more interesting ones out there then I will try them.

catchingzzzeds · 26/08/2020 00:14

I'm going to give the granola with yoghurt for breakfast a go. Good meal ideas too, thank you for those, I think I need to add more herbs/spices for more interesting flavours. I've been eating a lot of salads and it's getting soooo boring.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 26/08/2020 08:04

The portion size looks tiny, 45g granola and I have between 50-100g of yoghurt depending. If I use a fruit yoghurt I’ll normally have less and I eat Total 0% natural yoghurt then I have 100g.

My evening meals tend to be about 75% whatever we would normally eat but in smaller portion. We eat a lot of curry/rice because DH is S Asian and cooks a couple of times a week. 25% of the time I’ll have scrambled egg, omelette, salad or soup.

dalecooper · 26/08/2020 08:20

Yesterday was not quite so good (bloody time of the month) - had a small bowl of pasta for supper after having had rice for lunch. Carbs x 2 is not great for me. Then had some rice cakes - more carbs and then had some crackers - more carbs. So obviously not going to get on the scales for a couple of days.

catchingzzzeds · 26/08/2020 08:40

That was me last week @dalecooper I had my first period in years and I was ravenous, I went over my calories (1200) by 200 each day. My weight remained static.
I have my first real test this week as I'm taking the kids out for lunch today and I'm out for lunch again tomorrow, not sure whether to eat what I want and very little the rest of the day or as I rarely eat out just enjoy it.
