Hello please could I join you?

I’ve been doing no sugar/processed food for about three weeks now and have lost 4lbs so far. I’ve signed up for a MacMillan Mighty Hike in summer, which is 26 hilly miles in one day, so I’ve been upping my walking lately, am trying to build up - and do hills. I’m feeling like I’m toning up and getting stronger (weight loss is always slow and steady on the no sugar diet, never dramatic).

WhatALearningCurve · 10/02/2020 15:42

So I'm back. Started 2020 with the best of intentions - and then I was hit with a bug that I couldn't shake, my 11 month old decided he was going to get 4 teeth in a month and then he decided to just stop sleeping. So the last 6 weeks have basically been me eating to survive, even if that meant I was surviving of takeaways and bread.

Back on it this morning as i'm finally bug free and my sons sleeping again.

1200 calories a day, Protein World shakes for breakfast and lunch and that way I can have a decent meal at night which is my downfall because that's when I get mouth bored.

I'd hit 13 stone around Christmas (i'm 5 ft 4 so this isn't a good look on me), by New Years Day i was 12 10 (definitely the start of the bug) and then I think before "the dark period" truly hit, i'd gotten to 12 7. Weighed myself this morning (after breakfast and dressed) and was 12 10 so i'm actually really happy that i've basically maintained since New Year when i've probably eaten most of the local supply of Warburtons Toastie loaves.

Aiming to lose 1-2lbs a week, which still gives me a chance to lose a stone by Easter which is my first goal (3 stone overall). Just really want to get beneath 12 stone as that's always been sticking point for me and I feel like my weight started with a 13 for so long that it will be incredibly motivating to see that number at the front for once

SheepSocks · 10/02/2020 22:12

@Whatalearningcurve - I'm very similar to you, except I am 5ft3. I was 12stone at the beginning of October so I was horrified to jump on the scales after Christmas to find I now weighted nearly 13 stone.

I've joined a gym which I'm starting to enjoy, I'm eating much healthier foods, but I miss my one true love - chocolate!

RubySlippers77 · 10/02/2020 22:31

@SheepSocks are you one of those people who can have a little bit of chocolate to satisfy a craving? Or would you rather have none and avoid the temptation?! I do like a square or two of dark chocolate!

I'm still full of a streaming cold, would probably be feeling better by now if either DP would move his lazy arse help a bit round the house and/ or I didn't have small DC to look after. They are very unforgiving of people who need to rest Sad

@WhatALearningCurve I love a toastie Blush might even have one tomorrow if I'm not feeling better...

SheepSocks · 11/02/2020 09:10

@Ruby I am a complete chocolate addict. I asked my husband to help me, he gives a small chocolate bar a day - my chocolate rations. I'm happy then!

Sjanish33 · 11/02/2020 15:56

@RubySlippers77 Sorry to hear about your DB - it's hard.

I fell off the wagon at the weekend and as usual it's hard climbing back on, I haven't been terrible but eating bread and carbs again makes me feel so sluggish and fatty.

I'm hoping to be better tomorrow, I won't forgo this week's weigh-in but I don't think I'll like it - Hope you're all doing well.

SunshineAvenue · 11/02/2020 18:56

Know what you mean about feeling sluggish after carbs, I feel great and then half an hour later feel sleepy and sloth like.

I think sugar makes me depressed. I had a Sunday evening fall off the wagon, I won't go into detail about what I ate but there was a lot of highly processed, sugary shit eaten. I felt like shit when I went to bed, slept really badly and felt so down all day Monday. I did crawl back on the wagon which is a plus and had a good sleep last night and am feeling 75% better. I think I was feeling a bit down and went into fuck it overdrive, enjoyed the food at first but then carried on mindlessly and ended up feeling even more wretched than when I started. What a waste of time and calories. It really is like a fucking drug.

Sjanish33 · 13/02/2020 08:39

SW: Jan 2nd 89kg
CW: 85.1kg
Up. 0.5kg/1.1lb

I had expected a gain this week that brings my loss this month to a massive half a pound but actually I'm not too unhappy it could have been a whole lot worse.

Back on it today with renewed vigor!!

RubySlippers77 · 14/02/2020 10:06

Hope you are doing ok now @Sjanish33!

I am really not doing very well with my 3st weight loss ambition. Not entirely my fault as I'm still full of a streaming cold, but with half term coming up it will be even harder to make healthy choices (and find time to cook!). Will need to brave the scales and re-make my plan, I think...

Sjanish33 · 14/02/2020 15:28

@RubySlippers77 I'm in better form alright but I'm struggling too as it's Valentines, and hubby's birthday weekend :) - so I've been making cakes etc. I have decided to postpone being mindful and calorie counting until Sunday of this week where I will go on a VLCD for a little while - ( Exante type ) and then I'll go back to the 1200 a day intake. I think when I start eating carbs I find I need at least a week to cull the carb beast inside me - So I'm having a few days off before another good 6 week run at the diet, before holiday in the first week in April. I'm keeping up the exercise too.

RubySlippers77 · 16/02/2020 22:31

Hope you enjoyed the birthday weekend and the cakes @Sjanish33! It's 10 weeks to our holiday. I may have to venture on to the scales tomorrow now my cold has eased off a bit and I don't feel like I'm about to die any time soon...

Noconceptofnormal · 16/02/2020 22:35

Could I join as well please? I am 4 mo post partum and have about 2.5 stone to lose to get to my pre pregnancy weight, but I'm breast feeding so 1.5-2st would be amazing for now!

Issue for me is I've had 3 pregnancies in quick succession, all awful with bad sickness which made me pile on to the carbs, and when I breastfeed my body both clings to every oz of fat, and I'm so bloody hungry all the time.

And to add to the equation I also have a health condition that can make exercise and generally looking after myself logistically difficult.

So, it sounds pretty hopeless, right... :-)

I'm just going to have to try. I'm going to do weightwatchers I think as that system has worked for me before, and been less fussy than mfp.

Think I'll try and do the groundwork this week and then start properly next week when half term is over.

Wishing everyone good luck.

theweightlossone · 16/02/2020 22:57

How are you all doing?

Since we were away I’ve been doing the whole ‘well I can’t start again because even though we’re home I’m not back at work yet’ and ‘ok I’m back at work but midweek so no point starting now either’ Grin

No excuses now!! Back to it as of tomorrow. Had been doing 1300 calories but wondering if I should try and reduce this further. Maybe 5:2 would be easier though. A couple of 500/600 calorie days instead of less every day.

RubySlippers77 · 17/02/2020 09:30

I've lost 1.5lb in two weeks @theweightlossone. Not brilliant but I'll take any loss as I've felt so rubbish! Think my raging temperature must have burned off some extra calories...

Welcome @Noconceptofnormal Smile will you do WW at home or go to a group? I did it a few years ago, our leader was lovely, but has since left so I'm not tempted to return. Tried SW online but just found it too expensive for what you actually get, although I did prefer the diet plan. Can you stock up on fruit/ veg to help with any cravings? Or I found overnight oats brilliant to pick at whilst I was feeding the DC!

Sjanish33 · 17/02/2020 11:55

Welcome @Noconceptofnormal ! - well done @RubySlippers77 - I'd take that loss any day of the week.

Back on it myself today (tried yesterday but failed in the evening) I'm so hungry though, I hate that it takes a while to get rid of those constant cravings like you @Noconceptofnormal I only have to look at food and the weight goes on, and then I can feel hungry a lot of the time. It's getting over that hunger hump and getting back in the groove - I just have to ignore it, and drink plenty of water.

Honeyroar · 17/02/2020 19:14

I’m a month in now. I’ve lost half a stone, but measured myself again and I’ve lost an inch off my batwings, boobs, hips, thighs and calves. . Plus nearly two inches off my waist and ankles. So feeling good. I’ve been doing A LOT of walking, doing hills if possible, and I’m feeling fitter and stronger. I’m still bright red and breathless at the top, but I’m not having to stop as much, if at all, on my way up. I’ve still a long way to go, but it’s a good start!

RubySlippers77 · 17/02/2020 19:59

@Sjanish33 would drinking herbal tea help in the evenings, bit of a different taste? I have fizzy water and a hot chocolate - Sweet Freedom with semi skimmed milk - helps fill me up more than plain water!

Well done on the inches loss @Honeyroar. I'm sure I wrote my measurements somewhere but can't find them - better get looking, wouldn't want anyone else to see the sheer horror of those Confused

Honeyroar · 17/02/2020 20:05

No I know what you mean! 😀 Mine are well hidden (I hope!). But it boosts your morale and determination if you’ve not had great weight loss but you see your measurements going down..

Grapes in Greek yoghurt are my evening treats, they seem to stop any cravings. Peppermint tea helps too.

Sjanish33 · 18/02/2020 14:46

I love blueberries and raspberries with some greek yogurt as a treat - and I have just run out of Sweet Freedom (which is brilliant for curbing the sweet tooth) Once or twice a week I'll have a coke zero and some protein crisps (90 calories) -

It's really mind over matter for me and once I get into that frame of mind you could wave all sorts of treats in front of me and I'll stay away from them - I'm on Day 2 of between 800-1000 calories - hoping to do this for two weeks straight before increasing back up to between 1200/1400 - according to MFP if I keep my daily calories/exercise at just 1000 I will be 80 kgs in 5 weeks - it always says I'll be X in 5 weeks but 5 weeks doesn't seem to come ;)

I'm not sure if I could sustain so low for that long either.

SunshineAvenue · 18/02/2020 22:56

Lost the thread somehow Confused

I've worked out that Sunday evenings are a real 'danger zone' for me. I slack off a bit at the weekends so maybe that's why? I just seem to dive into sugar on a Sunday night and then feel really low on Mondays. I'm going to have to schedule in something to stop this, I'm thinking long bath/facepack and then nails.

Weighing in tomorrow, not expecting a great loss but clothes feeling looser so that's something.

SunshineAvenue · 19/02/2020 08:18

Pleasantly surprised to see I've lost 2lbs this week ShockSmile

SW: 209lbs (01/01/20)
CW: 189lbs
Total loss: 20lbs

Sjanish33 · 19/02/2020 11:26

@SunshineAvenue that's a fab loss and congrats on hitting the 20lb mark since the 1st of January that's amazing!!

I have checked the scales with one eye open (I think i lost the pound I put up last week) but I'm waiting until Sunday now for my weigh-in - as I was so off-plan last week and I also seem to get complacent at the weekends so I'm hoping a weekend weigh-in will keep me away from all the stuff I don't want to be away from!

Best of luck everyone else - February isn't going to plan for me but I'm hopeful I'll lose a little - It's not easy.

theweightlossone · 19/02/2020 15:36

I seem to have managed to gain 6lbs since 30/01/29 Blush

But will put it behind me and keep going! Not too worried.

Lost 0.6kg on last week - 1.3lb - I'm really happy to be heading in the right direction again.
