Just that really. How the fuck did I get this big! I've always been on the chubby side, but at 5"9 I pulled it down off.

Fuck. Where do I even start

Will you let us know how you get on with Luke? I have no clue what to do in the gym and the thought of working out with someone watching me is really intimidating!

I'll report back. Someone watching me is off-putting but not as much as going to the gym and people watching me looking clueless...! He's very positive though - we're going to take measurements and photos apparently as that will "inspire me". No, we won't be doing that as it definitely won't inspire anything other than a retreat to the sofa with a book and a Kitkat.

For gods sake don't join slimming world.

You need a lifestyle change. Look up Team RH.

Good luck - you can do this x

frustratedashell · 10/02/2020 16:45

Only lost three quarters of a pound again this week. I'm told its cos I'm developing muscles!

ringletsandtwiglets · 10/02/2020 17:46

You’ll get there, @frustratedashell. If you’re doing a lot more exercise and using your muscles more, it could be water retained by your new guns! 3/4 of a lb is still good going, so try not to be disheartened.

I weigh myself in kg now, so every small loss registers and keeps me motivated. I’ve also noticed a pattern of spikes and losses, so I’m learning not to get down on myself if the scales go up. I weigh every day.

So I just weighed myself and I'm 20st 7lb 😔
frustratedashell · 10/02/2020 18:02

Thanks ringlets. I didnt know what was retained by new guns!
Why do you weigh every day? Thought you were only meant to do it once a week?

I weigh every Sunday morning, 1st thing in the nude.

foodiefil · 10/02/2020 18:18

Weighing everyday and working out a weekly average is better. You might weigh yourself on a day you're retaining more water because you've not drank enough water. As an example.

ringletsandtwiglets · 10/02/2020 18:41

I used to weigh once a week, but got discouraged if, after a week of trying to eat well, my scales showed little movement. Weighing daily means there is less expectation, and I’m starting to see patterns and fluctuations that weekly weighing didn’t show me. I also got some Fitbit aria scales which automatically upload my weight, body fat and BMI on my Fitbit app, which then tells MFP. I like the graph on MFP more, though the Fitbit graph also shows my weight trend, which evens out the spikes. This is the Fitbit one.

So I just weighed myself and I'm 20st 7lb 😔
frustratedashell · 10/02/2020 19:55

Thanks foodie and Ringlets. That makes sense. I've been getting headaches every day, does it seem likely that its cos I'm not drinking enough water? I must confess to drinking a fair bit of tea!

ringletsandtwiglets · 10/02/2020 20:01

I have 1500ml of water and 500ml bottle of sugar free Vimto. I have been on a fluid restriction, but have felt much less thirsty now I’m eating better and my diabetes is under control.

I think tea should be fine! Mostly water anyway. How much do you have?

frustratedashell · 10/02/2020 20:45

I typically have about 8 mugs of tea a day, drink very little water. I need to drink more water I suspect

ringletsandtwiglets · 10/02/2020 20:46

Could it be caffeine-related?

frustratedashell · 10/02/2020 20:49

I do drink a bit of coffee but only about 1 cup a day

frustratedashell · 11/02/2020 23:58

I've tried to drink more water today, it so hard. Barely drank 0.5 litre!

ringletsandtwiglets · 12/02/2020 07:13

Could you liven it up with fruit/ flavourings of some kind?

I have an insulated water bottle thing because I love really cold water, and just have one bottle-full (750ml) before lunch and one after, with something flavoured in the evening as a ‘treat’. 😂

maggieryan · 12/02/2020 12:08

A friend in work has lost a lot of weight over the last few months, ive only just noticed, asked her how, she calorie counts, so rarely goes over 1000 during the week and 1500 at the weekends, she said she can eat almost anything but in moderation, she also doesnt eat after 7pm. They are the two changes she made and she looks amazing. Im trying to do it now. stocked up on a few marks and spencers low calorie dinners and have them in work, as i would have dinner pretty late. So going to try eat before 7. Hope it works, and hope something works for you too, its shite being overweight, i often think when did this happen, one minute im size 14 giving out about my weight, next im up to size 18 and didnt even notice how the hell it happened :(

frustratedashell · 12/02/2020 21:34

Thanks Ringlets, it's worth a try.

elliejjtiny · 16/02/2020 08:51

Another 2lb gone this week. Getting there slowly. @maggieryan I've been trying to not eat after 7pm too. It's really hard and sometimes I give in but every little helps.

Couch25k · 16/02/2020 09:08

Everyone seems to be doing fab, I had a small Chinese last night at around 6pm and I jumped on the scales and it says I'm 3lb up!!! I was really strict with myself all day (300 calories) because I knew it would cause a bit of damage Blush

I'm hoping its water weight. My plan is to have a fast day today and drink pints of water. Hopefully by tomorrow it's all balanced out......

frustratedashell · 16/02/2020 19:00

Stayed the same this week. Sad

ringletsandtwiglets · 17/02/2020 12:27

@frustratedashell, I've been all over the place this week. I had a big, surprise loss in the middle of the week, then back to 'normal' the next day. Do you track your weight/ activity with an app? When I'm static/ have gained, I look back and see how far I've come, and it helps to keep me going.

I also shared a Chinese with Mr Twiglets, @Couch25k, and felt so dehydrated the next day. I don't think I realised how much effect the salt had on my weight- it's not really the fat or calories, is it? It's my body desperately clinging on to the water!

frustratedashell · 17/02/2020 12:56

@Ringlets, I went out for lunch twice last week Confused. I use my fitness pal app, which does help.
My daughter is getting married in July so I'm trying to lose weight before buying an outfit. Also I'm 60 in April so dont want to be cuddly for that either! I've not got loads more to lose, well 1 stone . Could be worse.

MyHeartIsInCornwall · 19/02/2020 12:17

Hi all! 👋 I’m in the same boat and almost the same weight and my height is 5’7”. 3 kids later and almost 40 I’m sat here crying that I let myself get like this. I just watched a DIY sos where the mum has died and left a husband and 5 kids. It was so sad and I just thought, ‘I’m letting my family down here so badly!’ I have to get a grip of this. I am totally addicted to sugar! I lost a lot of weight before pregnancy 1 and stayed within guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy. Put a load on between that and the next pregnancy. I lost 3 1/2 stones during pregnancy 2 as I did not crave sugar at all. Gained again and lost 2 1/2 stone during pregnancy 3, again zero want for sugar really. I think mine is mainly hormone driven and I have PCOS. Ultimately though, I’m choosing to do this to myself and I need to find another outlet for stress and coping. My youngest is 4 1/2 and on the diagnosis pathway for ASD and we’ve had a rocky few years moving to Australia and back and losing everything (husband is Aussie). Let’s just say, I think I’ve retreated back into the world of sugar and never stopped 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve been overweight since puberty started really 😬

You are not alone @Greysparkles How are you doing now?

I think the biggest thing that I need to tell myself is to not give up. If I slip up, to keep going and not think, ‘ah well! You’ve done damage so you may as well go for it!’ I do this ALL the time 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hope everyone on this thread is finding what works for them and getting to the root cause of why they gain and keep weight on. It’s a rocky road, but we all have to start somewhere. 💜

Couch25k · 19/02/2020 12:52

@myHeartisinCornwall hello and welcome.

For me you have absolutely hit the nail on the head, what I need to do going forward is if I do have a "blip" is to not think sod it! What I must do is carry on plodding.

I've lost a 1lb this week and I'm happy, it's a slow and steady process now and I have learnt so much about food and how and why I eat. I am now making much healthier choices when I'm out and about and do feel better for it. I dont NEED the Costa large latte and piece of cake... a skinny cappuccino or black coffee is just as good.

I've also ordered new clothes, a size smaller so I need to keep on it to fit into these 💪

Sweetooth92 · 19/02/2020 19:11

Sounds like a productive few weeks all round!
I haven’t checked in for a while-but weighed in at 17st 13.8lb yesterday, so I’m pleased to be under the 18 again.
Unfortunately it’s only coming off so quickly as my little one is having a really rough time & they believe it’s allergy based so I’ve been put on a hypoallergenic diet cutting out all dairy wheat soya eggs and so on-so there’s not enough variety to want to eat much! 😂

ringletsandtwiglets · 20/02/2020 16:33

@Sweetooth92, that's brilliant! I'm hoping I'll get there by the weekend too! Can't wait to see that 17 at the start of my weight again.

I had dropped to 17 stone 1lb after a stint in hospital in the summer, but ate far too much cheese and too many crisps on my release! Rueing it now, of course, but this is the first time I've ever consciously been able to lose weight consistently, and I'm really enjoying running too.

@Couch25k, you're an awesome plodder :) What clothes have you ordered? I'm training myself to pick up and try the size 20s instead of the 22/24/26s I would normally get. Can't wait to be in standard sizes!
