Just that really. How the fuck did I get this big! I've always been on the chubby side, but at 5"9 I pulled it down off.

Fuck. Where do I even start

You poor thing! What a shock to get. I'm not your height, but I know my ex was 13 stone at his biggest (5" 9) and hated it as he had a tummy. With a lot of running and cutting out alcohol he was around 11 stone and looked great - only took about 3 months to lose those 2 stone.
You can do this and I hope you come on in leaps and bounds!

motherofawhirlwind · 02/01/2020 13:00

Hello fellow 5 foot 9ers.... I'm on day 1 of SW and was almost 24st at weigh in. Am also trying veganuary to give myself a kick start.

Nursing83 · 02/01/2020 13:06

I'm 5ft 11 but weigh the same. I'm trying this thing my friend recommended called Team RH. They set calorie and macro targets and you up your steps and do some weights. It's supposed to be amazing, my friend has lost 4 stone doing it

TheStirrer · 02/01/2020 13:20

Joining the merry band. Was 21st 11 at beginning of 2019. Lost nearly 2 stone last year so starting at 19st12.5 in 2020. Hopefully for more than 2stone in 2020!

Greysparkles · 02/01/2020 14:00

It's so great to hear from all you guys, you've all really lifted my spirits as I felt so so shit this morning. I've downloaded my fitness pal, found the charger for my fitbit and am about to have a healthy lunch. We can do this!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 02/01/2020 14:06

@gamerchick
I have a gym membership for less than £20 a month (well known chain gym)

IIRC Slimming world (and other well known diet clubs) cost over £6 every week!

and payment for any weeks missed.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 02/01/2020 14:10

Well done @Greysparkles for making a start. I'm still in my dressing gown but going to drag my bum to the gym later.
Still feeling lazy after Christmas and NY though but determined to go!

Couch25k · 02/01/2020 14:26

Dont panic! Thos time last year I was 18 stone 2lbs and at 5ft 10. I have now lost 2 stone ( need to get rid of the 5lb xmas weight)

I weighed every Monday morning. Logged what I ate and drunk. Drinking lots of water really helped me. I logged my weight weekly and that helped me keep on track.

I also did low carb and ate 1200 calories and was booze free for 5 months till I hit my 40th.

I'm not suggesting you donall that. Maybe cut down on a few things, choose what you think will work for you and tour lifestyle.

Dont panic, small chunks at a time.

memberofseven · 02/01/2020 14:31

On January 1st last year I stood on the scales and was 16 stone. I was horrified. I went on the Michael Mosley blood sugar diet and before the summer I was bang on 12 stone. I would still like to lose some more but am unexpectedly pregnant which has put my diet on hold!!! Let this be your realisation moment op. Honestly it was easy. I was in such denial about my eating habits that I would spend hours looking up low thyroid symptoms completely denying to myself that it was my calorie intake that was the problem. The first 2 weeks were hard and after that it became a way of life. I joined lots of fb support groups and became determined to change. You can do it!!

memberofseven · 02/01/2020 14:32

Ps I'm 5ft 8

Dubya · 02/01/2020 14:33

Just take it a day at a time, it's overwhelming otherwise I've found. Although I am always the same and want to jump right into it, make small changes and gradually increase your walking or there's loads of exercise videos on YouTube, if you have a switch there's a fitness game as well which is like a newer Wii fit and great fun! You can do this, but please be kind to yourself along the way.

BarbarAnna · 02/01/2020 14:41

I am the same height and have about 4 stone to lose. I have done it before but have had a number of setbacks health wise. I am starting again next week. My experience is that it is 90% diet so I focussed on that, and just made sure I did 10k steps a day but without going crazy in the gym. I think it is important to crack the eating first rather than trying to do it all.

commoncoot · 02/01/2020 14:48

Two pregnancies close together I've found myself 19st 13lb. Re joined slimming world (which I gave up when I got pregnant again) 2 weeks ago and let Xmas get in the way. Just been back today to face the music and lost 1lb!

You got this. My aim is to do it slow and steady. Make sure I break the jab it's that cause my weight issues not just lose the weight. Hoping to lose 1lb a week ... that's still 3.5 st lost in. Year if I manage that!

Whoops75 · 02/01/2020 16:09

Best of luck OP
Try not to under eat initially, slow and steady, eat the all calories you are allowed.
If it gets hard come back on for support.

babysnowman · 02/01/2020 16:47

OP I would recommend a book called The Beck Diet Solution. It's basically cbt for weight loss and teaches you to recognise and challenge the thoughts that lead you to overeat or make bad food choices. Good luck!x

Greysparkles · 02/01/2020 21:56

Well the first day has gone very well. I've logged everything on MFP, which I've set at 1500cals a day. That seemed a sensible amount.
Hope everyone else had a good day. Onwards to tomorrow

MsTSwift · 02/01/2020 22:10

Whoops that is not necessarily the right approach. Michael Mosley advocates going in hard and fast seeing weight come off is very motivating. Taking it slow is more likely to lead to failure. I lost 1.5 stone in 3 months

DobbyLovesSocks · 02/01/2020 22:18

@nursing83 I'm also on TeamRH. Simply eat less than you burn off. Increase your activity. Good luck OP, being overweight SUCKS

sandyfoot · 02/01/2020 22:24

Good luck OP. My friend has lost that much weight with very similar stats to you after a health scare and looks, and more importantly feels so much better. You can do this. Well done you for confronting it.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/01/2020 22:27

I started at 19,5. With calorie counting, I got down to 12,2 last year. I then got ill for 6 months or so (chronic condition) and I'm now 13,11 and feeling well enough to get back to it.

I would also caution against slimming clubs and fad diets. The only way to lose weight is to operate a calorie deficit. You need to know your triggers and learn how to handle them. In the past I lost weight with SW but it didn't tackle my emotional eating, binge eating and portion control. I'd just binge on free food and eat huge bowls of pasta. I've had to learn to get a grip on those things or this loss isn't going to be sustainable.

For no nonsense diet advice, seek out www.fitnesschef.uk or the fitness chef on Instagram. His straight talking, bullshit slaying advice us marvelous.

Greysparkles · 03/01/2020 09:27

Good g morning, feeling positive for day 2. An taking the kids out today, it's a standard kids activity which only has hot dogs/burgers/chips in the little cafe bit. I'm thinking either have a huge breakfast, or make my own lunch to take with me? Or maybe both as we're going to be there till 3/4ish.
Hope the rest of you are having a good day.
Hoping this positivity continues!!!

Ladybird37 · 03/01/2020 11:19

Well done on staying positive and having a plan. I'm thinking one day at a time this time. Hope you have a great day.

BettyJean · 03/01/2020 11:47

@MsTSwift

Well done on the 1.5 stone in 3 months. Was that on Michael Mosely’s diet?

BettyJean · 03/01/2020 11:49

Going to have a look at Team RH.

@mrstswift - my reason for asking is that I need to lose 2 stone but I’m going on holiday at the beginning of April, so 1.5 stone in 3 months would be great.

BettyJean · 03/01/2020 11:56

Just out of interest, is SW or WW best?

My weight has crept up (early 40s) and I need to shift about 2 stone.

I will be going to spin twice a week, as well as 2 short ish walks with DD on a Sat and Sun.
