Just that really. How the fuck did I get this big! I've always been on the chubby side, but at 5"9 I pulled it down off.

Fuck. Where do I even start

last February I weighed in at 18st 10 Lb. Now i am 14 st 8 Lb so I have lost 4 stone in just under a year. My aim is to lose another two stone but I am finding it harder now
I have completely changed how I think about food and think about choosing the right foods. Of course there are blips but on the whole I avoid cakes / crisps etc and eat less carbs filling up on lean protein and fruit and veg. It is more healthy eating than a diet.
I guess it is even more important to control your diet if you are diabetic

Zebracat · 29/01/2020 10:05

Thanks for the welcome ringlets.i think I look ok at about 13 stone., so I’ll see if I ever get there. I have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, so I am hoping that once the medication begins to work,it will be easier to lose weight, as I did try really hard last year and got nowhere. I am eating between 9.30 and 5.30. It’s actually ok, although I will cheat and have a snack if I am hungry at bedtime, But only if my belly’s rumbling so loud it’s keeping 5he house awake. It’s only been a few days but I feel slightly more 8n control of myself than usual, although I wouldn’t guarantee the safety of anyone whe got between me and my porridge!

FlowerArranger · 29/01/2020 10:16

I've just looked back to the 1st Jan and I've lost 12lbs since then...

You consider 3 lb a week quite slow weight loss???

You are doing great!!!

Seriously, I can't imagine how you could lose more than this and stay healthy.

ringletsandtwiglets · 29/01/2020 18:00

@FlowerArranger, I think it just feels slow, but looking at the month’s total made me feel much better! I’ve never done anything like this before, just ate loads, did not exercise at all and thought it would all be fine. Now I’m actively trying and want to do well!

ringletsandtwiglets · 29/01/2020 18:04

@Zebracat, do you have to feed others too?

Mr Twiglets works late, so we don’t eat our evening meal until later, when I’m starving! I have breakfast at 7, lunch at 12.30, a snack around 5pm and dinner at 7.30/8ish.

Zebracat · 29/01/2020 22:02

I Share cooking, Dh does most but yes we are a family of 4. We are retired, 1 kid in school and 1 at uni but at home. So an early dinner is fine. I quite like it, feels like we have the evening free, might go out a bit more.

Greysparkles · 30/01/2020 16:49

Just checking in with you guys! That's an amazing loss @ringletsandtwiglets!!!
I'm down 8lb now since I bought the new scales, and I'm so happy with that. Few mishaps here and there, an incident with cheese and wine which I won't go into 😂 but still in the right head space to keep this going 😁

ringletsandtwiglets · 30/01/2020 17:16

Well done to you too, @greysparkles!

I like the sound of cheese and wine... 🤤

For those of you counting calories, how many are you allowing yourself a day? My Fitbit says I burn around 2300 on a sedentary day, though I’m averaging 3000 at the moment. MFP suggested 1880 calories intake per day, though it does adjust with exercise.

Zebracat · 30/01/2020 17:32

I’m going with about 1800, and trying to ignore MFPs exercise allowance.. I do have a very relaxed approach to the accuracy of my food entries though. I swiped for my usual porridge breakfast today even though I actually had the last of the Christmas panettone.

Greysparkles · 30/01/2020 18:15

I'm using around 2200 a day atm. Which will obvs go down as I lose more

OP posts:
Couch25k · 30/01/2020 18:34

I am generally sticking to 1500 a day.

I'm 15 stone 8lbs

chalkyc2 · 31/01/2020 09:11

Checking in...veganuary has been my friend and am currently 5kg down in January. I know that's slow compared with some and it's been pretty hard...just need to keep going now!

ACautionaryTale · 31/01/2020 10:22

I’m 21st 7lb and 5’3’’ so I know where you are coming from.

My problem is I genuinely do not look that heavy. And it’s not just me saying that. I look about 18 stone according to most people (including my doctor)

I think it goes back to a previous life as a body builder. At 12 stone I was a size 8 but officially obese.

Anyway, my point is I know how you feel

frustratedashell · 02/02/2020 19:26

Only lost three quarters of a pound this week, bit disappointed. But will soldier on

ringletsandtwiglets · 02/02/2020 20:31

@frustratedashell, well done for keeping going!

Any loss is great, and any gain is only temporary. Be kind to yourself xxx

chrispenrallt1 · 03/02/2020 07:15

Just back from holidays. I have not stepped on e scales for some time as I knew I would not like what they said. I ate like a pig on holiday and this morning I had a mental bet with myself what weight I would be. Just got off the scales and I was only 1 lb out. Whilst on holiday I thought bout the diet as you do when lolling on the sun bed, so today I’m starting low carving. I need to lose the best part of 4 stone so I’m in it for the long term. Wish me luck as I wave the bread and spuds goodbye.

elliejjtiny · 03/02/2020 11:39

I've put 5lb on this week despite not going over calorie limit or eating chocolate etc. Period is 3 days late though so I think it's pre-menstrual bloat. This is the point in my previous weight loss attempts that I normally give up but so far I've been keeping going. It helps that dh has no choice in the matter (he has diabetes) so I keep telling myself that I am eating better to support dh and somehow I keep plodding on.

I said at the beginning of the year I would make 2 changes a month so in January I gave up sweets, chocolate and limited my desserts/puddings to one per week. This month I'm going to either go for a walk, do my fitness dvd or go round softplay with my 5 year old 6 days a week. So today I will be starting with leaving the house at 3:30, hopefully meet my 13 and 11 year olds on their way home from school by 3:45ish and then walk the rest of the way home with them. Wish me luck.

Zebracat · 03/02/2020 19:36

Good luck elliejitney!
Weighed today and I had lost .5 kilo. That’s 3.5 kilos in 2 weeks. So gotta be happy with that. It has made a difference, clothes are fitting better, I can get my socks on, and the nasty rash I had in my creases has cleared up.. Targets this week are to drink more water, and eat less crap.. I’m not that bad, but I do seem to have chocolate every day, and a lot of fruit.

ringletsandtwiglets · 07/02/2020 13:34

I hope everyone is getting on okay. We're already a week into February and Christmas seems like a long time ago.

I'm tantalisingly close to breaking into the 17 stone range now and still feeling like the changes I've made are realistic and sustainable. I'm really enjoying doing the Couch to 5k, as I know some other people on this thread are doing, and feeling fitter.

frustratedashell · 07/02/2020 16:45

Well done Ringlets, I did week 5, run 3 of couch to 5k , today. Ran for 20 minutes, was hard and I did wonder if I could keep going. But I made it.

chrispenrallt1 · 07/02/2020 18:31

I weighed today and whoosh 7 lb gone. I know it’s mostly water, but it does make you feel better about yourself. I’m getting the tape measure out tomorrow too.

elliejjtiny · 08/02/2020 16:17

5lb gone this week. The same 5lb that I gained last week but still feeling proud of myself for not getting disheartened and giving up.

chrispenrallt1 · 08/02/2020 16:57

Well done Ellie for not chucking in the towel!

BurningTheToast · 09/02/2020 11:50

Can I join please?

I have a lot to loose - more than I'm comfortable admitting, if I'm honest, but I was 50 last week and it's freaked me out a little. My weight's crept on gradually. A big chunk due to meds when I developed epilepsy in my twenties, a bit after having my son (but he's 20 now so that's no excuse!) and I'm a writer so my job is sedentary to say the least - a good day is 2k words and not leaving my desk!

I've joined WW and although I've fallen off the wagon a few times, I've lost 5lbs over the last couple of weeks. Not sure yet what effect last week's champagne and cheese has had, not to mention the Charbonnel and Walker truffles (but they don't count, surely?).

In a bid to get fitter, I've also signed up with a personal trainer so that when I rejoin the gym I feel more confident about what I'm doing and to give me a boost to get started. That's been on hold for the last couple of weeks though because I fell down some slippery steps and sprained my ankle. Didn't break it, but they found an old fracture that hadn't been spotted when I did the same thing a couple of decades ago!

So this week, I have my first session with Luke the PT (we're going to have to have a chat about not whooping encouragingly) and I'm focussing more on what I eat. And no wine. Apart from that small bottle of Moet left over from my birthday...

Good luck everyone! x

ringletsandtwiglets · 09/02/2020 12:51

Welcome, @burningthetoast :) Will you let us know how you get on with Luke? I have no clue what to do in the gym and the thought of working out with someone watching me is really intimidating! Moderation and realism is really helping me, so nothing is off-limits, but I’m having smaller quantities of fattening stuff and more veggies and lean meat. Bubbles and truffles sound like a fantastic birthday treat.

@elliejjtiny, well done!! It would have been so easy for you to fall off the wagon but you kept on going. Superstar!
