Anyone care to join me?

I need to lose weight - about 2.5st - but my main goal is just to be healthier by making better choices and maintaining healthy habits.

I'm getting organised today and Day 1 is tomorrow, small steps lead to big things :o

I'm about to weigh myself for the first time in 5 years and I'm dreading what the scales will say.
I've charged the Fitbit and I'm off for a walk later.
I have also bought a weighted skipping rope and some weights.
Plan on sticking to around 1200/1400 calories combined with 14:10

stoneysongs · 29/08/2019 10:03

@Isthebigwomanhere think to yourself that today is the last day you will see that number!

gigi556 · 29/08/2019 10:33

Thanks guys. I used MFP about 10 years ago so I'll have a look. I think it might link into Fitbit..

Isthebigwomanhere · 29/08/2019 11:14

13st5lb ideally I would like to be 9st 2lb
Realistically I will be happy if I just eat healthy, up my exercise and aim for 10 st.
Hopefully slow and steady will win the race

SquintEastwood · 29/08/2019 11:32

Well done isthebigwomanhere - you've done the worst bit, as stones has said that's the last time you need to see that number! Welcome and good luck :o

Gigi they used to link not sure if they still do?

It's payday tomorrow and I'm still debating some sort of clip on step counter/Fitbit type thing just for the sake of it really as I know I walk way more than 10k steps...

Squint That sounds delicious!

Yesterday I had:

B. Porridge with 1/2 apple and 1/2 banana and cinnamon
L. Slice of bread and butter
D. Feta and falafel and olive salad (large!), glass of wine, 2 pieces of dark chocolate
S. Mug of Ovaltine Light (supposedly!)

Felt a bit sick after the porridge - I don't think it agrees with me these days - maybe its a carb overload. I think its my age too. A simple slice of toast would be better I think.

I started a few weeks ago - and have lost 1 kg (2 lbs), so down from 86 kg to 85 kg. Not a huge amount but as I keep saying I've had a cold. Usually, if I'm ill or stressed I just throw in the towel! But this time I've tried to keep an even keel at least. I'd love to be 80 kg by xmas; that would be a massive achievement.

Once I'm feeling back to normal I'll reel in the calories to about 600-800 a few intermittent days a week. Eat normally and healthily in between. This is the only way I can lose weight long term at my age and inability to exercise.

Its a busy thread this :)

gigi556 · 29/08/2019 23:05

Here's my day...

So there's nights in and every single night I get pretty hungry around 9pm. I had an apple. It hasn't touched the sides! I don't usually get hungry before bed so I guess it's just because I've cut my food intake. Do you think I'll get used to it and it'll go away. Do I eat more? I'm trying to ignore it but I feel like hunger is the reason diets fail. I don't want to be hungry!

thewinkingprawn · 29/08/2019 23:49

So today I had a fairly good day:

B: scrambled egg
L: carrots and hummus and some peanut butter (random)
D: cold burger from bbq yest and ratatouille

And then:

At least a bottle of wine. Maybe a bottle and a half, hard to tell since friend probably Drank way less than I.

Now I just need to go to bed to avoid munchies and ruination of otherwise good day

stoneysongs · 30/08/2019 08:00

Went to the seaside yesterday and had fish and chips and an ice cream.
Rest of the day was good though, nothing for breakfast and a wrap for lunch. The fish and chips were delicious Smile

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/08/2019 08:29

gigi If you think your cal daily burn is correct then I would maybe have toast or cereal at 8 or 9 ish . You should be aiming for 500 cal deficit i think to keep a steady weight loss.

My day was ok yesterday but i did meet a friend for lunch and probably ate too much . I'm ok with that as if i start depriving myself too much I will fail.
My plan today is
Gym
16:8
Will meal plan for next week as well today as i have time. Back to work on Tuesday and i am actually looking forward to getting back into a routine.

Good luck to everyone for today.

gigi556 · 30/08/2019 13:31

@Howlongtillbedtime yeah I think my stats are as accurate as they can be I guess. I did run yesterday and I walk everywhere as we don't have a car. How does 16:8 work?

Isthebigwomanhere · 30/08/2019 15:51

I've managed to Keep under 1500 calories.
Got at least 10k steps a day in and sticking to 14:10 so all good so far

Leftiefterson · 30/08/2019 21:59

Please may I join?

I’ve been vacationing a lot over the last few months and even though I’ve done a fair bit of exercise it hasn’t completely compensated for the amount I’ve been eating and drinking.

B: Coffee
L: Flat bread with grilled chicken and kale, berries
D: Homemade tikka massala with cauliflower rice
Snacks and drinks: tea, Diet Coke, sugar free jelly and berries

Also went on a run 😇

I’m missing the pina coladas and red wine!

StarsOutShining · 30/08/2019 22:09

That sounds very tasty Left. Can you tell I'm a foodie Grin?

B. One slice of peanut butter on toast
D. One v large Caesar salad (home made), 2 small gl wine.

Its 10 p.m. and I'm not really all that hungry. So, perhaps will leave it for tomorrow ....

I do think it will be great to keep this up till the end of the year. It would be so nice to start NY feeling OK, and clothes fitting more easily again :).

gigi556 · 31/08/2019 06:27

Well done @Isthebigwomanhere @Leftiefterson @StarsOutShining

Yesterday was tough for me. I had two nights in a row of about 6 hours sleep and I think that impacted my hunger levels. I was hungry all day so didn't manage to stay in limits. Still made healthy choices though and don't think I ate that much... I know I need to eat when I'm hungry or it's just not sustainable.

gigi556 · 31/08/2019 09:02

Sorry this was yesterday. I looked into MFP and lose it apps and they do allow you to track grams of protien not just percentage but you have to pay a premium subscription.

Also, read a quite detailed tech article about weight loss yesterday that I thought was good. medium.com/@physiqonomics/8-reasons-your-not-losing-fat-in-a-calorie-deficit-908f07e4edee

100 days to a healthier me!

SquintEastwood · 31/08/2019 11:00

Hey everyone, sorry four slinking off yesterday - was one of those days where I kept getting distracted!

B: Granola bar and banana
L: Wetherspoon's - burger and fries + a few drinks for a friend's birthday
D: Pot noodle, crisps and a twix (this is why I don't daytime drink 😂)

Back to it today - I'm starving already...

B: Toast and tinned plum tomatoes
L: Blueberries, melon, raspberries
D: Sausage, egg, beans, mushroom, tomatoes

@SquintEastwood when does the 100 days end? Not that we have to stop being healthy 😁

muddledmidget · 31/08/2019 11:53

So far this has not been going well, Ive not met any of my goals and have eaten crap. As I'm currently curled up with stomach cramps from hell, I'm making a new plan to start a fresh from tomorrow, new month, new start etc. My fitbit is charging and the fridge still has healthy food in it, I just need to move and eat it.

Hope everyone else is doing a little better than me!

SquintEastwood · 31/08/2019 12:20

Gigi mine is the 4th of December but it's just a general block timeframe rather than about the specifics I guess now that I think about it so it's an individual thing - some might prefer to break it into 30 days, 6 weeks etc.

It's just a way for me to say ok, one day at a time and I will work towards being healthier by X day. Little steps get there in the end rather than full on from day 1.

I've no idea of that makes sense to anyone except me 🤔

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 31/08/2019 12:32

I have been eating fairly healthy diet but last night i drank far too much wine. Thankfully i feel okay today but i have probably eaten a bit too much.

Todays food:

B: Bagel with Philly light and smoked salmon
L: Home made lentil and bacon soup, a ham sandwich and a peach
D: Prawn layer salad from Marks to eat on a train on my way to an evening out.
S: 2 Thorntons chocs which DH gave me out of his stash.

I expect to drink a couple of glasses of fizz later but it won't be a boozy night.

StarsOutShining · 31/08/2019 21:07

Squint makes perfect sense to me.

I'm actually coming to the end of week 5 as I started this a bit before you started the thread Squint. It takes me a while to get in the swing of it, so my starts are always a bit all-over-the-place. I'm settling in a bit more now and my appetite has started to shrink a bit. I am very determined this time and I am also going to treat myself for every pound lost (first pound, bunch of flowers; second pound, some other treat, etc etc. I have actually been too busy to treat myself, but I intend to stick to it! One treat will be a spa day.

However I am away for about 5 days next week. I don't expect my diet to be perfect there will be at least one fry up but thats OK, its about overall health and not only about losing weight. I need a break as I'm tired and need a rest badly.

Sorry for the essay! Hope all are happily soldiering on :-)

Today:
B/L - 1/2 bagel and one scrambled egg
D - Large feta cheese and falafal salad home made, 1 x bowl of raspberries, some yoghourt and pistachio nuts, 1 small gl wine.

Its 9 p.m. now and I'm not sure if I'm hungry or not - probably because I'm tired. I'll have a coffee to take my mind of things.

StarsOutShining · 31/08/2019 21:10

*soldiering on - reminds me, its a marathon, not a race.

Fivechatchacha · 31/08/2019 21:42

Would like to join in.
I lost 2lb last week. Not massively overweight but would like to lose a stone and get into my clothes a bit easier. I've got out the way of exercising and need to just improve this and food habits generally.

Today I ran for 25 mins on running machine.
B: bowl of shreddies and milk, cup of tea
S: Cup of coffee
L: small tuna mayo sandwich on brown bread with rocket. Some salt and vinegar chickpeas, cup of tea
S: Apple
D: Brushetta and stuffed pasta with meatballs. Bakewell tart. (not the best dinner but DH shopped and cooked so didn't complain)
Cup of tea.
