100 days to a healthier me!

SquintEastwood · 25/08/2019 10:10

Anyone care to join me?

I need to lose weight - about 2.5st - but my main goal is just to be healthier by making better choices and maintaining healthy habits.

I'm getting organised today and Day 1 is tomorrow, small steps lead to big things :o

Hi folks, just wanted to add a little about my day.

L. 2 scrambled egg on a bagel.
D. 1 x dover sole, large salad, 4 falafel.
Then pudding: a large bowl of summer berries with natural yoghourt, 2 pieces of dark chocolate.
Plus : 2 small glasses of wine

It was fairly healthy and delicious, and enjoyable - and I had been to M&S earlier in the day! BUT I think my dinner was on the large side when pudding added. But I was quite hungry, perhaps had left it too long.

Once am over my cold, I will try and introduce a few extra low calorie days in during the week to try achieve weight loss. In between 'normal' days.

As I said, I'd like to lose 10 pounds by xmas to start with. I'd be very happy with that to begin with. More after that. But one steady step at a time.

Thanks everyone, I think I just needed to get it all out in the open so to speak.. in future if I'm ashamed to write it I won't bite it 😆

Gigi looks like you had a good day! Well done :o

Weirdly my binges have always been focussed around lunch time. During the week I work mornings then home for lunch and a quiet cuppa for an hour before heading back to school. I only do it when I'm on my own at home and never at any other time. Yesterday I managed to stop myself by doing a fitness video but today I was nackered and had a pretty crap morning in general so wasn't in the right frame of mind. I need to distract myself - I see that time as time to chill but actually I need to keep busy and distract myself!

Stones that sounds like a good plan - just focus, one meal at a time which makes sense really. I'll try that tomorrow, need to remember what I'm aiming for!

Starsout nothing worse than when you feel crappy and just want to eat all the wrong things but your day looks balanced to me! My Mum swears by 5:2, I've been thinking about doing that to have a few naturally low cal days.

I also like the idea of 16:8 and wonder if that might suit me better but I would miss my breakfast if I "couldn't" have it haha

Evening all.
Thanks for the heads up on juicing @gigi556. It’s good to hear other people’s experiences.

I did my healthy shop today and am ready to go tomorrow. I’m determined to give it a shot for 5 days and then reassess. I know it’s going to be hard but the extremely hot weather in London has killed my appetite (for once!) so hopefully I can stick to it Grin.

Didn’t have too bad a day today. Skipped breakfast as was hot and irritable, chicken salad for lunch, chickpea curry with small portion of brown rice for dinner. No booze (hurrah!).

And took public transport to work rather than drive, which involved about 40 mins of fast walking. Baby steps ...

Squint if you fancy 16:8 you could try pushing your breakfast a bit later each day, do it gradually

Morning all
I like the idea of focusing on the next meal and not worrying about the bigger picture. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed and have a 'fuck it' day.
Yesterday was an ok day.
I made it to the gym
Stuck to 16:8
But I did have 3 gins which wasnt a great idea.
Plan for today is
Either gym or a walk
16:8
Good luck to everyone .

Morning all - feeling much more positive this morning and going to switch tactics to focus on one meal at a time!

This morning I'm having my usual fruit, Greek yogurt and a sprinkle of oats - I fill a 400ml jar with random fruit, chuck 2tbsp of Greek yogurt and a tbsp of oats on top - then take it to work.

AIRehab* not even this heat kills my appetite, I don't think anything does though 😂

Taking public transport sounds like a good plan, especially if it encourages some exercise - good for the environment and the waist line WIN WIN!

Stones I have thought about it but the latest I can have my breakfast is 10am or i'd be stuck until 1.30 - I walk 3 miles and do a 4 hour shift on my feet before then so I think I'd keel over 😂

Then again, I guess 10-6 is a reasonable time frame?!

Do you find it helps? I thought the idea was to skip breakfast and reduce calories naturally.

Well I ate 2/3 of a packet of biscuits during the feeds last night so I’m not doing well.

I've been shopping and have filled my fridge with vegetables, but then managed to have crumpets with cheese for breakfast! Am planning to go for a walk in a bit, but have just started tackling the washing pile from 4 months away so may not get out before it rains. Not sure what my meals are for today but will involve salad and veg....

SquintEastwood · 28/08/2019 11:49

hormones 2/3 of a packet isn't too bad, night feeds are bloody draining! Never mind - fresh start for the day ahead :)

muddlemidget 4 months of laundry is probably enough exercise to counteract the crumpets haha

Hats off to anyone doing this with a baby - I agree 2/3 pack of biscuits is not that bad!

Squint I find it helps for lots of reasons:

  • less faff in the mornings
  • feel in control- I have made a decision and stick to it
  • lots of research now on the benefits of having several hours without food (doesn't have to involve missing breakfast) see books by Jason Fung
  • I do get hungry sometimes but getting used to that is good- it's just a slightly uncomfortable physical feeling like being cold or the sun being bright or whatever and nothing to worry about when you know you're going to eat again in an hour or so. Good for resetting ideas about food.
  • when I get back into it I will add a couple of 24 hr fasts each week which basically means missing both breakfast and lunch a couple of times, this is a bit harder but doable for me and even better for saving time and money
  • having said all that I have a mostly sedentary job so able to fit activity around eating instead of the other way around

Not too bad a day today although had bad sugar and carb cravings:

B: scrambled egg
L: sausage salad
D: chicken casserole with green beans

I have decided I need to think about this in smaller chunks than 6 stone to lose so my first goal is to get myself out of the obese and into the overweight BMi category which means first goal is 9llbs off!

Think I'll need to do some more reading stones, as I say my Mum's a big fan of 5:2 and has been using it to keep her weight under control since hitting the menopause so it does seem to work for her atleast. Just don't know if I prefer that or the 16:8 method - I guess I pretty much do 15:9 eating between 9.30 and 6.30 so it can't be too much harder!

Winkingprawn sounds like a good day to me. Definitely worth breaking things down - i find it more manageable and much less daunting - my first scale aim is to get under 13st.

My first non-scale aim is to be able to zip up last year's winter coat. Hopefully by the end of October because I am NOT buying another one!

Oh, I've had a pretty good day and taking it one bit at a time helped me to stay on track as I only had to make it to the next meal rather than worrying about a whole day if that makes sense?!

B: fruit, Greek yogurt, oats
L: Leftover pasta bake, salad, ham
D: Chicken fajita with rice and kidney beans

I did have a fairy cake sized carrot cake as DS (13yo) was really pleased with himself - he has sensory issues around food so doesn't often take part in cookery class but today he did and it was really good too :o

I’ve logged everything in mfp and am at 1621 calories so I’m counting this as a good first day. So very tempted to eat chocolates and sweets as an emotional reaction to kids tantrums this afternoon but I resisted and counted my icecream later on. I am trying to focus on quality treats so not eating the easy sweets but going for the good quality treat planned in already.

Good days all round so far 💪👏
Breakfast: 0
Lunch: potato curry / wrap / a few walnuts / dark choc
Dinner: Parmesan chicken / sweet corn / broad beans bit weird but what I could find 🙂
Had a meeting other side of town this morning so cycled there then to the office and then home, I think maybe 10-12 miles in total. Thankfully working from home tomorrow to give the old legs a rest.
Squint good book for further reading about all kinds of fasting, the obesity code by Jason Fung. BTW the other thing I like about it is not having to worry about calories, as you can see when I am eating, I eat loads. I find it easier to go without food for a set time and then eat what I like for the other two meals, obvs avoiding crap.

I started the 16:8(ish) Fast800 three days ago. I'm 14.6 stone (less than I thought i was!) and am looking to shift 2 stone minimum. 5'9".

I've managed 800cals per day so far, a little over today because of a celebratory lunch, so about 1100 today.

Lots of protein and I'm genuinely not hungry between meals. I used to have two choc biscuits waiting for the kettle to boil, and then two or three more at least!

What trackers if anything do people use? I'm using the food tracker on my Fitbit app and even though I put in pretty detailed data it only tells me calories consumed and macro ratios. I'd like something that totals and spits out how many grams of protein, fat and carbs I've consumed not just the ratios...

Good morning everyone.

Today is day 1 for me. So far the dog and I have walked 1.75 miles and I'm fasting this morning.

I've weighed myself at 13 stone and 13 lb. I'll do my measurements in a bit too.

I've messaged my personal trainer and she's kicking my arse to get back onto my food plan (strict keto Mon to Fri and dirty keto on a weekend) with 18:6 3 days per week. I've booked a session for Tuesday night and dug out my Jillian Michaels videos too.

Today's plan is to do lots of food prep, give the dog another walk and clean the house.

gigi556, I use my Fitbit. I log everything and it keeps me on track with steps and food. I love it.

SquintEastwood, thanks again for starting this thread.

Can i join too? It was my birthday on Sunday (57 eek!) and i realised i am not getting any younger and need to look after myself properly. No 'dieting' just good healthy food.

I started on Monday with three overarching goals:

  1. Eat less. Try and eat lovely food but reduce my portion size and TRY not to snack.
  2. Drink less alcohol. Save it for special occasions and nights out.
  3. Do more exercise. I walk a lot as i have a dog but i do no toning. I have arthritis so i prefer Pilates to high impact. I have found a video that is fairly good and will try to do it 5 out of 7 days.

I weighed in on Monday at 13st 7lb. I would like to be 11st.

Monday and Tuesday i did well but i was rubbish yesterday. However i have put that behind me and i will keep going. I am glad to have found this thread to make sure i am accountable and to gain support. Together we can do this!

Morning everyone
Not a bad day yesterday and aim for the same today.
I will stick to 16:8
Going to gym soon
Meeting a friend for lunch and a walk and I also need to get back in the water drinking habit. I drink loads when I am at work but I am really out the habit over the holidays.
Hope everyone has a good day.

I’m placemarking to start next Monday, as we are currently away on holiday, so my diet is all over the shop. I lost nearly 3st last year, but have put back on 2st since Christmas and I’d really like to have lost that again by my birthday at the early next year.

We were on a day out earlier this week in the heat and I felt so uncomfortable and miserable, so something has to change rather than the vague mutterings I’ve been making all year about dieting. The year so far has been stressful, but my diet has been out of control (I’m terrible for binging on chocolate in the evening, having eaten very little all day).

My interim goals are to lose the ‘pounds’ to drop into the next ’stone’ number (not sure how many until I weigh myself at home), ideally by half-term at the end of October. Second goal, which is pretty much dependant on the first, is to ensure my winter coat can zip up without being uncomfortably tight, as I really don’t want to have to buy a new one. If I am able to button my rain mac as well in a few weeks, that will be a bonus.

I’m intending to log everything I eat in MFP, as that worked well last year. I will return on Monday to start properly and log my starting weight.

Morning all :o

Lovely day here and thankfully it's cooled down! I've got a driving lesson after work so I've brought my packed lunch - organised for once.

B: Fruit, Greek yogurt, oats (shock horror!)
L: Leftover fajita chicken, veg and rice
D: Baked potato, lentil dhal and salad

Gigi I don't use a food tracker but when I did I used mfp as I found it more detailed and intuitive than the Fitbit app.

Apollo that's my plan too - eat a bit of everything in moderation. I just need to step back from "dieting" and teach myself to just get on with it and sustain that!

Rubbish days happen but it's the getting back on track that's the important thing. We can do it.

Have a good one everybody
