Anyone up for losing a stone?

I am bursting out of all of my clothes, I have decided to lose the offending stone.

Just weighed myself and I'm 10'8.

I could probably do with losing 1.5 stones but I'm setting a goal of one stone which will get me back into my clothes.

Fancy joining me?

Well, I am giving up the porridge and date breakfast and going back to eating chocolate!
I have gained 3lb over the last few days.(also perimenopausal)
And seem to be gaining several inches all over these days even if the scales are only 3lb heavier atm as trying on last summer's clothes have reminded me
Hope everyone else has done a bit better Grin

Not great here. I lost 2 lbs and then regained it (Chinese meal and a lot of wine). So I am back where I started. I have a new dress (size medium) which I bought online. I can get it on but it is not pretty, bulging from every angle. I think I will keep it but try it on again when (if?) I lose a stone. Feel unmotivated and sluggish. I took my bust, waist and hip measurements. That was depressing. Ok, I will make myself go for a brisk walk and see if I can find my mojo.

Bank holiday weekends are wonderful but lethal for those of us trying to lose weight.

Ooh can I join too please! Blush dieting for a holiday in July! I’ve been going for about 3 weeks now, had the occasional treat. Currently 9stone4, want to be 8stone10! Will check back in on Friday!

Trippedupagain · 29/05/2019 09:12

I weighed myself this morning and I'd lost 2lbs, so I'm happy with that as a start, but I know that the first 4lbs or so are easy enough. I'm going to weigh myself every day as a routine as I find it very easy to ignore the scales if I think I'm not going to like what I see. How's everyone else doing it? If I leave to weighing myself once a week I will be too lenient and let it drift I think. I've had no scales in the bathroom for about 2 years! I've cut out morning and afternoon biscuits with coffee / tea and have tried to limit portion sizes more. I bought some of those sugar free sweets yesterday so I can have a sweet 'hit' if I want. Oh and I've tried to start liking black tea. It's the little things that all start to add up for me.

Trippedupagain · 29/05/2019 09:16

@iwillwearthegreenwillow I totally know what you mean about fasting! I tried the 5:2 diet a few years ago and found I was just obsessed by food on the fast days and you have found, couldn't think straight at all. DH did it with me and he found the same, plus feeling faint. If you do it when you're at home it's more manageable but very difficult to get used to. I hate obsessing about food as well!

cinemasnoozer · 29/05/2019 09:39

I'd like to join too please! I'd be delighted to have some company in losing a stone. Just need to find some scales to do the weigh in. My plan is to stop eating biscuits at work and exercise regularly. Now begins the self control....

piscis · 29/05/2019 13:19

@Trippedupagain I do a 16 hour fast 3 times per week (have my dinner at around 8pm and then I don't have my lunch until 1pm, or sometimes even 2pm). I think the only approach for fasting and being ok with it and not hungry is to do High fat, low carb. You can still have some drinks and add some fat to them during your fasting hours (I have coffee and put a bit of coconut oil or sometimes a bit of cream), as fat is the only thing that doesn't cause a spike in insuline production, which is the real problem causing weight gain.

For whoever is interested, this book is AMAZING: www.amazon.co.uk/Obesity-Code-Unlocking-Secrets-Weight/dp/1771641258?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Makes so much sense...It is working wonders for me. It is not a diet, it is about changing the way we eat and looks at weight gain as an hormonal problem.

readyforsunshine · 29/05/2019 17:02

Piscis do you know if it matters to do a slightly smaller window? I’m trying to eat earlier, about 5.30pm which also stops me having teatime toast. I’m having bfast around 8.30am which gives me 15:9 rather than 16:8. Will I still be getting the benefits?

piscis · 29/05/2019 17:31

@readyforsunshine you should still get the benefits, it is not such a big difference. The longer the fast, the better, but you need to find what works well for you and fits with your lifestyle... I know a 24-hours fast 2-3 times per week would be more effective but personally I am happy with the results fasting 16 hours and if it takes me more time to lose another stone, I'm OK with it.

readyforsunshine · 29/05/2019 17:37

Thx. Just interested really. I’ve done 5:2 before but found it difficult & although I maintained I didn’t really lose. I’m lo carbing to lose but also 15:9 by accident!

piscis · 29/05/2019 17:56

If you are interested in the book but don't want to buy it, you can just look at YouTube videos of Jason Fung. He is actually a nefrologist, treats diabetic patients with this approach and reverses insulin resistance.
It is very interesting and it all makes so much sense to me!

I struggled today, meals were fine, protein yoghurt and bar for breakfast, plain chicken salad for lunch and lean beef chilli with cauliflower rice for dinner. But caved and had quavers mid day and then a shit load of peanut butter. Did a 5k and it felt grim...tomorrow’s a new day.

Penguin13 · 30/05/2019 02:23

Flowers salad. There were plenty of positives in your day so focus and build on those and try not to be so hard on yourself. You might have felt grim doing your 5k but you got out there and did it! Hope today is an even better day.

Trippedupagain · 30/05/2019 16:51

You fasting people are so good! I might have a look at that book, piscis so thank you for that. Maybe some sort of theoretical understanding might help me a bit more!

Next week I'm away with work for almost a week and part of that will be socialising and eating out, which will be difficult. I especially don't want to discuss dieting with any of my colleagues or friends because I think it's very boring and also will start everyone off on their diet stories which is very dull! So I need some tips or rules of how to eat while I'm away - what are good things to look out for on a menu, do you think, other than obvious salad type stuff? I don't want to end up starving hungry but also don't want to undo the fairly good work of this week. Any ideas will be gratefully received.

Studentnursesos12e · 30/05/2019 17:19

Me. I’m 11.11 (and 5’3). I’d like to be in the 10 stone bracket by August.

Will be a mixture of calorie counting and 16:8.

Globesround · 30/05/2019 17:27

Bit late to the party but can you all too? Currently 10'6, have lost 4 pounds in past 6 weeks but would like to lose a stone and get to 9'6. Somehow. Looking at RH fitness or MFP!

readyforsunshine · 30/05/2019 22:04

Trippedup Im lo carbing so go for steak & salad or fish & veg options, they’d also work well if you’re calorie counting if you ease off the dressings & sauces.

Trippedupagain · 30/05/2019 22:51

Readyforsunshine - thank you, fish and veg would be good I think. We are going for tapas one night apparently so will maybe go veggie that night. I have to say, I'd forgotten this, but doesn't food taste amazing when you are limiting yourself? My food tonight was very dull but I really enjoyed it and it tasted great!

Willow 2lbs is a decent loss, don’t get disheartened! However if you’re finding it really hard perhaps something different may work better for you? Maybe give it a few more days to see if your body adjusts, perhaps it will become a bit easier for you?
I find that I can’t restrict in the same way now I’m (well into!) my 40s I just have zero energy, & with fibro too it’s just too hard for me. That’s how Ive managed to put on 2 stone over the last 5 years!!

cinemasnoozer · 31/05/2019 08:52

Weighed in: 62kgs. Target 57kg (i am only 5ft). It feels good to write it down, and make it a commitment.

piscis · 31/05/2019 08:52

I have lost a pound, not a lot. I am now at 10st 7pounds.

I won't complaint as bank Holiday Monday was terrible, I ended up drinking a few beers, sangria and eating crisps and Tiramisu, and had pasta and wine on Wednesday for dinner. The rest of the days I've been good.

I am happy with losing just a pound per week if I can still have some "naughty" days tbh, I don't think I can go to parties and not drink/eat as everybody else...

Decormad38 · 31/05/2019 08:54

Im down from 10 13 to 10 7 now. Another 7 and I will be happy.
