Half a stone off in June

MuddyForestWalks · 28/05/2018 17:13

I have, sadly, gained 8lb of the 24lb I lost last summer since returning to work after mat leave. My work trousers are starting to get a bit tight Blush so I am going to lose half a stone in June.

My plan is to sort of follow the 5:2 diet - 2days a week at 800 calories, then the other 5 will be 3 meals, no snacks, no carbs until dinner time. No alcohol. No seconds on the plate. No junk. I am tall, still breastfeeding, so have a pretty high TDEE, and I reckon that should be sufficient.

Anyone else joining me?

I am properly hungry right now... Trying to wait until 12 noon

Lexilooo · 05/06/2018 11:29

Can I join please? Even though I am a bit late 😁

I was 92kg on 1st June, and am down to 91.4kg now but want to eventually get to below 75kg.

My weight has been gradually creeping up for years and I got a bit of a shock when my BMI hit 30 so I want to get it below 25 before I turn 40 😣

I have a family risk of diabetes and seeing the complications first hand recently has been very frightening. I'm not diabetic but need to manage my risk.

I have got the Michael Moseley 8 week blood sugar diet book and I am following the principles but am not going to do the 800 a day everyday.

Today is going well, just water and black coffee so far!

theredjellybean · 05/06/2018 12:38

Hi lexiloo.. You can do it.. I was 91kgs and 7 years ago got to 72kgs...now hover between 73 and 69 kgs, definitely feel happier at 70kg.

Fontella · 05/06/2018 12:55

Hi all,

Just got a pair of size 12 trousers off ebay .. in the post this morning tried them on ... and they are a little loose!!

This is good news of course, but my problem is I'm top heavy - big bazookas! So I can get away with a 10 or 12 bottoms but need 16-18 tops, plus I do like things baggy rather than tight. I wish I could lose a bit of weight off my boobs, but it's always the last place to go, so I've learned to live with them, and dress accordingly.

I'm still being good, although yesterday I did eat a Fry's Chocolate Cream that was in the fridge late yesterday afternoon. To be honest, after the first couple of mouthfuls it started to taste incredibly sickly. But I still kept going and finished it haha!

Grin

However, that was it ... I didn't eat any dinner after that, and went right round to a late brekkie this morning around 10.30am - porridge, sliced banana and natural yoghurt with a coffee.

I'm still feeling full now, so am probably not going to bother with lunch. No point forcing food in if it's not required.

I'll next eat when I feel hungry.

Good luck everyone and keep going even if you slip up.

Bathsheba3 · 05/06/2018 13:46

Of course you can do it Lexiloo ! You have decided you need to get back in control of your weight which is the 1st step. The next is digging deep for the willpower to overcome the bad habits. It can be done. I've read the Michael Moseley Blood Sugar diet too. Makes total sense. But yes it is restrictive.

I'm on day 7 of the 10 day detox diet, which is very similar to Michael Moseley but cut out dairy & caffeine too for 1st 10 days. Like Before I have a bit of a bad relationship with food - I'm either very in control or I'm opposite and in F-it mode & binge. Long term these diets are restrictive, but the principals really work. And it has kick-started me to stop the bad cycle that I've been in since January, and loose the stone that I regained after loosing it last year.

I'm no sugar, no carbs (except 1 tiny portion a day which I think my digestion needs for fibre, e.g. tablespoon brown rice) no alcohol, no dairy, no legumes, no fruit. It's tough, but I can SO feel it in a week, lost the bloat, stomach has shrunk, got my mindset back on track, and already lost 5lbs but not admitting to them as it was probably alcohol calories floating around my body

It's so much in the mind. Dig deep, one day at time, meal-plan with protein and veg, and with any luck you'll be down in the 80kg bracket before you know it.

Sorry to lecture ...

Last - you sound stressed / anxious. Are you OK? Anything you can do to get yourself thinking positive and rested, so you get sleep?

Fontella - Good advice to stop when full & not have lunch because it is lunchtime! How are you doing Jellybean?

Devilishpyjamas · 05/06/2018 13:58

I want to keep the weight on my boobs but lose it around my stomach fontella.

Started Jane Plan today. Am 11 stone 5lb - want to get down to between 9.5 and 10 stone.

The food is surprisingly okay!

theredjellybean · 05/06/2018 15:37

I waited until really hungry and had scrambled eggs and grilled tomatoes.
It's lasagne for supper so that will be about 7pm today.
I don't do restrictions on types of food or consider it a diet. I just am careful to onky eat when properly hungry, stop when no longer hungry (this is different to being stuffed). By taking away the good/bad labels my relationship with food became more normal

Fontella · 05/06/2018 16:56

Dinner is Halloumi salad with green olives, red onions, apple (I lovechopped apple in salad), rocket, cherry tomatoes, red pepper, and a sweet chilli dressing - washed down with a cup of peppermint tea and then that's my lot for today.

halfwitpicker · 05/06/2018 18:31

I'm impressed too with the folks who can do the 800 cals per day, or even every other day. I guess you get used to it.

So I did pizza (thin pizza) last night for dinner but only had a quarter of it, along with some chicken noodle soup which wasn't a bad dinner really. Did another big batch of soup - onion, carrot, lentils, chick peas, sweet potatoes which fills me up for lunches at work.

Will try and get in at least 2 bike rides this week, only 45 mins -1 hour per session but better than nothing!

I'm wearing some jeans today that definitely feel looser Grin

FadingSomewhereInHollywood · 05/06/2018 19:22

Redjellybean that's what I'm trying to with food - nothing is off-limits or inherently "bad" or "good" but I am moderating my intake. It's definitely about food optimisation - getting bang for your buck.

Your dinner sounds lovely fontella!!

Yay for looser trousers halfwit!

Ok day today. Have done my 11k steps, did a 30min swim and due to stay under 1200 calories despite having a sneaky post-work gin - thank god for slimline tonic!! I even managed to turn down an invite out for curry which wasn't hat difficult actually as I'm shattered/pissed off with work and wouldn't have been great company!

Rowdythree · 05/06/2018 19:33

All these dinners sound lovely, I haven't eaten yet as I had to have a sleep this afternoon as I feel dreadful. At least that has stopped me from snacking Grin

I might just have a couple of crumpets for my dinner as I had a large lunch at my parents house today. I can't wait until I feel better so I can get some exercise in!!

I'm in awe of people that can stick to less than 1000 calories a day! I'm struggling with 1200, I've done it in the past so I know I can again 💪

Lexilooo · 05/06/2018 21:27

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Had a salad with chicken and boiled egg for lunch which was fine but started to struggle by evening and ate some cheese when I walked in the door.

A sort of moussaka (without the bechemal) for dinner and a glass of red (my downfall) and I should still have a decent net deficit for the day.

Thisimmortalcurl · 05/06/2018 23:36

Nigel .. have you tried the sleepy cream from lush ? I quite like it . It works a bit , a knock out Zoplicone it much better but hey ho.
Today was a bit of a fail , good all day then my mum and Dad ended up coming for dinner and I ate and drank far to much .
In a good note I finally booked my plane tickets so holiday in 28 days seems much more real .

Rowdythree · 06/06/2018 08:41

immortal draw a line under yesterday, today's a new day. Think of your lovely holiday and how you want to feel when you're there Smile

I finished the day on 1021 calories which I'm really pleased about. Will make a plan for today's food and stick with it

Fontella · 06/06/2018 10:06

Morning all,

I've got a very busy day today as I am having a clear out and doing tip runs so lots of lifting, carrying etc.

I have therefore had a fairly large breakfast because I know I am going to be using up lots of energy and also, I doubt I'll have a chance to stop for lunch.

But it's such a bloody marvellous feeing getting rid of clutter. How the hell do we accumulate so much stuff? I had a massive clear out last year, but didn't go far enough, so now I am being absolutely ruthless. Took six bags of clothes to the clothing bank last night and I've got four more bags of stuff in the car to go to the charity shop this morning.

The rest is for the tip, or I will flog on ebay.

Next job is to clear out my shed which is also full of stuff I planned to car boot - but it's been in there so long it's starting to go mouldy and manky and I'm just going to take the lot to the tip!!

So I'm not just (hopefully) shedding pounds, but also shedding clutter.

Fontella · 06/06/2018 10:20

I don't do restrictions on types of food or consider it a diet.

Same with me Jellybean.

I've done all the low carb, kept, cutting out bread, cutting out this and that ... but it's fine for a while but I can't keep it up forever. By abstaining from something I end up craving it eventually, so my mantra now is 'a little bit of what you fancy does you good'.

If I want a bit of bread I have a bit of bread. Just try not to eat the whole loaf! Likewise pizza and so on.

The other night me and the other half had a pizza between us. I had one quarter, he had half, and we ended up chucking the other quarter away. Once upon a time I would have cooked two pizzas and we'd eat one each.

Thisimmortalcurl · 06/06/2018 12:31

I agree Fontella , I can’t completely ban anything . I did the low carb diet 3 times I think a couple of years ago . All times before holidays and I hadn’t even got on the plane before I was eating a bacon roll. The weight gain was absolutely unbelievable and hard to get off. My body seems to work much better on low calorie .
Thank you Rowdy , today will be a better day .

beforeihit30 · 06/06/2018 12:49

@Devilish I’m similar to you, I’m currently 11st12 (eek), aiming for 10 stone but 9 stone would be great (I haven’t been 9 stone in 10 years...).

However 10 stone would put me in a health weight range and I would look and feel much better, so that’s the primary aim.

It’s only been a couple days of refocusing but sticking to 1500 has been better than sticking to 500cal deficit - because 500cal deficit would vary but generally be in the region of 1800cals daily, which is ok but actually that’s more than I need I believe (I’m short!) and would rather have perhaps slightly more on the weekend so trying to get a sensible balance and not just eat because I can. I’m averaging 1400-1500 and remembering to make better decisions (like poaching eggs instead of scrambling with a ton of other stuff).

ifonly4 · 06/06/2018 15:12

A bit late, but can I join please. Over the last few months I've put on 8lbs. Not much I know, but I'm a small frame and I can't get some of my jeans/trousers done up, oh and my tummy is hanging over the laptop on my lap!!

I was doing well by cutting back on biscuits/evening snacks for a couple of days. Today my Mum came bringing teacakes with her, later I went shopping - bought lots of healthy fruit and two cream cakes (consumed immediately on return!).

Feel like I've let myself down, but focused for rest of day. If I'm really hungry, fruit. Unless I can get inspired tea might be something out of freezer but with less potatoes than usual and no added butter and no evening snacks!

Plan to try and get a bit more exercise in, even if just pottering in the garden or taking my bike out for a bit. Have been on a long walk with a friend this morning, so that's a positive.

The rest of you sound like you're doing so well on days you've posted what you've eaten.

halfwitpicker · 06/06/2018 20:48

Got weighed this morning and I'm 142 pounds, or ten stone 2 in old money. Need to lose 5lbs to be at my fighting weight of 137 pounds.

Need to get a bit more serious tbh about the last five pesky pounds, been having too much peanut butter, cheese etc. And these are only small amounts! But they bloody add up. Need to only have carbs once per day, which is usually breakfast or lunch. Either that or go cycling more, which is more likely as I feel deprived as it is!

Going away for a rare weekend just me and DH this weekend, 4 course meal and a 'copious' breakfast is included so we'll see how that goes!

halfwitpicker · 06/06/2018 20:49

Welcome, newbies GrinBrew

Bathsheba3 · 06/06/2018 23:18

Not sure what you have lost Half but you sound like you've done very well! Hope you have a very lovely weekend away with DH. Enjoy every moment and mouthful of being wined and dined and breakfasted!

I've done OK with food today. Ate a bit too much but did go on a v long bike ride, which I hope burnt off. Haven't yet started logging in to MFP as I find calories swim around in my brain, which makes the dieting harder.

halfwitpicker · 07/06/2018 01:47

Thanks, bathsheba. I can't wait!

I managed a bike ride too tonight, after eating a chicken kebab Blush only had the chicken swarma though, and no rice or gorgeous greasy chips.

MakeItStopNeville · 07/06/2018 01:50

Can I join? I’ve actually lost half a stone in June already by doing nothing whatsoever. I’d like to drop another half a stone by putting some effort in!

theredjellybean · 07/06/2018 07:07

I had an odd day yesterday. Had a rare row with dp over txt the night before and woke feeling upset and sick. So didn't eat. Sorted it out later and felt a bit better but just had salmon, new potatoes and salad for dinner. Oh and two glasses of wine!
But that was it for whole day.
Scales say I have lost 2.6lbs this week
