Hi Smile

I have a significant birthday coming up in 5 weeks time.

I really really want to lose a stone by then. I'm 10st 8lb now. I have been creeping up from 9 1/2 stone since autumn last year. I'm best at 9 1/2 stone, I feel like "me" and my clothes fit properly.

I've been snacking and being lazy. Buying junk I know I don't need. Telling myself I'm going to start "tomorrow" every day but failing by teatime. I really don't want to have this extra stone on my birthday.

Does anyone else fancy joining me for support/tips swapping/motivation? Apparently, if you've made a written commitment, it's 58% more likely to happen than if you only thought it. Or something. All I know is I want to lose this stone and a few buddies along the way would be great Smile

Anyone in with me?

Lucked - yes, the weird thing is, once I realised I needed to do something about my weight, I have dithered for a while....and in that time I weighed myself every day and weighed the same.

then I have my first official new way of eating day - felt much better on it too - and then gained 2lb! Bizarre.

very much hope to report it has gone tomorrow!!

catlover99 · 21/03/2018 20:48

SpringNow I am sure the 2lb will be gone by tomorrow. Otherwise clearly something must be wrong with the scales.

SundayGirl I guess that was wishful thinking about the BMI not applying to me Grin. I think you are right though, it is a good indicator and probably applies to all ages. My mum and aunties and grandmother are/were all slim, none of them ever exercised though really, they just don't eat much. Tiny portions of cake and miniscule lumps of cheese and all that. But they did all tend to work in fairly active jobs. I had a surprisingly nice salad from the salad bar for lunch, and some curry when I got home, and managed to avoid snacking. And I have just returned from a 4.5 km run.

So feeling very virtuous now. Targets for tomorrow are to again eat breakfast (porridge with honey this time) and to drink more water and less tea/coffee. And to not get stressed out in our weekly team meeting presided over by my horrendously horrible boss.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 21/03/2018 22:22

Thanks cat, good luck with the meeting

I've had a night out cancelled tomorrow which is probably good for the diet.

I have meals planned, working at home, can do a lunchtime walk and a full workout after work.

SundayGirls · 21/03/2018 22:25

Hello & welcome to new joiners! It's great to have you here, the more the merrier Smile

Well done to everyone who achieved their personal goals for today and start again fresh tomorrow for anyone who didn't! Lots of very nice food being mentioned on here. I usually have a piece of toast with peanut butter for breakfast, but porridge with something is sounding great! I once (back in the day) made my own muesli from scratch from the Carol Vorderman detox books (actually not bad at all but basically strictly vegan) which you would eat with rice or almond milk and I tell you what, it was not half bad. I might dig that book out again Smile

Hallo Thursday 😀

Weighed in , and I’ve lost 3lb in one day , which I don’t think is correct at all !
I’m a weigh most days person too , not a good habit to have , but ... hey ho

Did the BMI calculator , which gave me 26 overweight ( think I knew that from looking in the mirror ! )

I’m on the older edge of mumsnet ( cough 58 ) and realise that having an extra pound or two is better in some ways , as you don’t have so many wrinkles ( sobs )

Muesli and fruit for breakfast again , not sure about dinner or lunch yet

I’m planning to stick to 1200 calories on MFP , let’s see what today brings

LittleDoritt · 22/03/2018 07:43

My weigh in was worse than I feared - 15 stone 2, what a beast. I avoided all snacks yesterday though so hopefully when it tear myself out of bed I will weigh slightly less today.

BusterTheBulldog · 22/03/2018 08:43

Managed triple gym classes last night, by the time I got back I didn’t fancy dinner which is handy.

I can’t quite kick my mini egg addiction yet, but Easter is nearly over!

1lb off so far for me. Smile

Startoftheyear2018 · 22/03/2018 09:12

Hi all, I'm in! I lost lots of weight last year which I'm slowly putting back on. 10.7 at the moment but I'd like to get safely below 10. I'm also an older MNetter (50) and it seems harder to shift. But that's probably just an excuse. I snack constantly and justify it - then regret it. I need help! Love the ideas on this thread and will start MFP again - it was great last time. Good luck today to everyone.

M5tothesouthwest · 22/03/2018 10:20

Ok today's the day. Weight 145lb. Aiming for 133lb by the end of April.
Ive downloaded the Happy Scale app which looks fab and tracks average weightloss so ups and downs are smoothed out.

Pixiedancing · 22/03/2018 10:39

Happy Thursday everyone! Didn't weigh myself this morning, but happy that I stuck to the calories and went for a swim yesterday. Had smoothie again for breakfast, it's really quite nice and quick. Planning another swim or a long walk later and a chicken salad with maybe some brown rice for dinner. I'll weigh in the morning.

SundayGirls · 22/03/2018 11:07

Hi all! & welcome to the new starters!

Doilook it's highly likely you have indeed lost 3lb in one day Star The first week is the best week usually. Keep it up, you're doing great!

Little snacks are my downfall but I try to keep them healthy when I'm focused. And have planned ahead. Nothing worse than no healthy snacks around but a family bag of mini mars bars in the cupboard... And that weight will be less next week. Well done for not snacking yesterday!

Welcome Start It's great that you are getting back into the healthy eating, I too lost a good few stones a few years ago, settled at 9 1/2st but it has crept back on so I really need to get a grip. I'm disappointed I've put a stone back on but then I'm glad I'm doing something about it sooner rather than later.

M5 you're the same as me! 145lb and aiming for 133 too. We are weight twins Smile

Pixie Great job on the swim and sticking to plan. Good luck for another fantastic day with your swim and lovely sounding dinner!

I've weighed the same as yesterday this morning - 10st 5 but although I've not lost today I'm ok with that as usually it means 2lb the next day (if I stick to plan!) I did manage yesterday's missive of 8 glasses of water too. Feel better for it!

Today's missive is a post script really because it was today I will have a really long walk and I've done that, straight after the school run, the long way round there and back to the park with my toddler. So I've been walking for the best part of 90 minutes. Feeling virtuous I've done it so early! And I've got some lovely new bath salts from Holland & Barrett so I'm planning a soak later. That's if there's any hot water left (sadly we have an old fashioned hot-water tank for our bath, so hot water goes to the DCs bath first and my later one getting the lukewarm tail end of the hot water.. not quite as good but it'll do!)

Buster Triple gym classes? Triple! Wow well done, I feel virtuous if I take the stairs!

Down 2lbs this morning since Monday so on track for a 3 lb week. I am now exactly 1st above a healthy BMI , which is currently 27.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 22/03/2018 17:08

Mystery 2lb still with me this morning
Guess that has to count as my starting point
Working out later
Also gave in to the hype and ordered a cheap activity tracker.

SundayGirls · 22/03/2018 17:24

Ooh spring which one did you get? I'm curious to see how many steps I do in a day - I boast to DH that I probably do 15,000 as I walk around a lot but he doesn't think so!

And don't get disheartened about the 2lb, stare it out and it'll move away Grin I am really saying this for me as much as you Wink as so far it looks like I won't have a loss (again) tomorrow even though effort has been put in, but, you never know...

RavenLG · 22/03/2018 17:32

I’m in waves hands I need to lose a lot of weight and setting little targets might help. Lost half a stone in 3 weeks but I need motivation to keep going. Have a friends hen party next year (as well as events this year) and talks of very energetic activities being planned so need to lose most of it by then so I’m not a big sweaty mess!
I’m fine through the week but the weekends get me harrrrd! If just eat wasn’t a thing and I actually had to call the take away place I think I’d be a rake 😂😂

Stitchosaurus · 22/03/2018 17:45

I put on 0.8 lb this morning but I suspected that after my lunch out. I was out again for lunch today, so did a workout in the morning and walked into town and back (an hour's walk all in) - I'm hoping that'll help the scales tomorrow morning!

catlover99 · 22/03/2018 19:18

I am finding the small daily targets idea really good although I failed on my first one today, porridge at home with honey - the morning was chaotic with the cats bringing in two dying birds first thing, rushing through the house with them and refusing to give them up. Bluish-black blood all the way down the hallway. I am considering changing my username as I no longer am sure I love them as much as I thought.

So I did not have breakfast at home as planned, but did at work have one of those instant pot porridge things, which are not great and a bit sickly, but still OK. Lunch was a salad (made last night) for lunch with tuna, butter beans, lettuce, red pepper, grated carrot, spring onion and toasted sunflower seeds and balsamic dressing. And now I am considering dinner. Some great ideas on here - maybe I will scroll back through the thread and get inspired.

Spring did you manage to disappear those 2lb?

catlover99 · 22/03/2018 19:19

Btw how often do you all weigh yourselves? I am thinking of every four days or so - a week is too long for me, but every day could start getting obsessive.

YearOfYouRemember · 22/03/2018 19:37

Hi all. This is a lovely thread. I promise not to kill it like I did the one I'm on Sad.

I think I over eat because I'm angry with the world various people.

Startoftheyear2018 · 22/03/2018 21:05

Thanks for all the posts. I need lots of motivation so reading what you're all up to is helping!

Bobbiepin · 22/03/2018 21:23

I'm in. The written accountability makes a lot of sense. I need the daily motivation too. I'm on maternity leave with DD who is almost 5 months. I was losing weight but plateaued at 12st and over the last few weeks have put on 5lbs. I'm breastfeeding which should help but also makes getting out to exercise a little harder.

I would like to get down to 10st but I think setting a midway goal of 11st is reasonable. I have 2 weddings in August and no money to buy new dresses so I must be able to fit into the ones I have!

Startoftheyear2018 · 23/03/2018 07:22

Feeling really determined today. Good luck all!

buckeejit · 23/03/2018 07:51

So far not too bad from me & for the first time in yonks no wine Mon-Thurs. I'm amazed!

Weekends are a killer though. Will allow myself wine in moderation. Supposed to be out for a curry tomorrow but will plead health & poverty as away next weekend for Easter & need to help myself where I can.

The Paul McKenna app thing is a bit cheesy but actually think it's helping. Definitely don't feel as stiff & sore in the morning already. Trying not to focus too much in the scales as less fat & fitting into clothes are a wee bit different & I tend to 'reward' myself with food in the past if I've had a good loss. Trying to be less idiotic this time 😬

BusterTheBulldog · 23/03/2018 08:58

10st 7 in my official weigh in today. Down 2lbs this week and back to pre Christmas weight. I need to kick on now! 💪

Snacking is still a problem I can’t lie. Weekends are traditionally my weakness but have gym classes in planned in for first thing tomorrow and long run planned for sun am so hopefully will counteract a little bit.

SundayGirls · 23/03/2018 10:18

Hello and welcome to new joiners! Great to see you! Flowers

Well done Buster for your 2lb loss, that's fantastic! I know what you mean about weekends Buster and Bucket. With DH and the DCs around, there's more food waffling about than there is in my day normally, so it's hard not to pick/snack more. Then there's the Saturday night "shall we just get some popcorn in?" (this means popcorn, plus maybe some sweets & chocolate biscuits...) and bang - all the day's hard work is gone! (temporarily maybe, but it's annoying to have to go back a few squares just to get to where you were again today on, say, Tuesday. I think I might make a special weekend missive for that Grin)

Bobbie you'll soon get that 5lb off! I think early days is planning ahead not just food planning, but deciding mentally what you will and won't be eating and also planning in what other healthy steps you can take alongside the food plan, so it's not just all food based thinking. It's helped me to think bigger than just the food element, anyway.

catlover omg the birds! Sad That's the thing about cats... beautiful but wild at heart. At least your ready-porridge is still healthy though. Hope you had a healthy dinner and stayed on track to the end after your traumatic start to the day!

You asked about weighing every day. I do weigh myself every day because I find I "borrow" too much from other days' healthy eating if I don't. For example I might be tempted to not focus on day 2 thinking that it'll all even out by next week's weigh in but I found I'd have 2 cheat days in 7 due to that and then be surprised at only 1lb or no loss week to week. Also I'm too impatient Smile I have tried both the once a week and daily weigh ins, and for me, daily keeps me on track far better. I don't obsess over it, but for some people who have obsessive tendencies they might do, so it's very personal what suits best.

Start do you have a preferred way of getting back on track, eg. MFP or just good old-fashioned calorie counting? Sounds like you have got a positive mental attitude for the day, good luck - you can do it!

I'm 10st 4 today so another 1 off, 4 in total. Feeling confident but as before, the weekend is looming - eek! Luckily we don't have any particular plans so I don't have to do any social eating or drinking which helps. Just got to make sure I don't go off track by myself! Today's missive is I will ensure I have my 5 a day. I'm good with fruit but not so good with veg so I'll make some of that veg. Maybe a carrot, apple, grape, rocket and red onion salad with a bit of feta crumbled in and some balsamic splashed over, for dinner! Smile
