Hi Smile

I have a significant birthday coming up in 5 weeks time.

I really really want to lose a stone by then. I'm 10st 8lb now. I have been creeping up from 9 1/2 stone since autumn last year. I'm best at 9 1/2 stone, I feel like "me" and my clothes fit properly.

I've been snacking and being lazy. Buying junk I know I don't need. Telling myself I'm going to start "tomorrow" every day but failing by teatime. I really don't want to have this extra stone on my birthday.

Does anyone else fancy joining me for support/tips swapping/motivation? Apparently, if you've made a written commitment, it's 58% more likely to happen than if you only thought it. Or something. All I know is I want to lose this stone and a few buddies along the way would be great Smile

Anyone in with me?

@pythone Ruggles is right, you didn't hide the slip up. Own it and move on. What's your dinner tonight?

@ruggles I think low sugar is more important than low fat, but i would assume that's a given on a diabetic diet! Getting the right kind of fat is important - I had avocado with my lunch, it was almost 100 calories but it's good fat so I don't mind the calories.

Today is going to be pushing the calorie limit (pizza and salad for lunch with my SIL, didn't have much flexibility there, and lamb koftas with pitta and salad). I could go without the pitta tonight but it won't fill me up otherwise. I'll be looking around 1200 for today.

Ruggles · 18/04/2018 19:53

Bobbie I think 1200 calories is very good! I totally agree about the avocado, it's so good for you.

I think this has been my problem - I have been on two diets before (in last couple of years), which both worked when I had 1 stone to loose. Unfortunately, although I eat very well at mealtimes, I didn't seem to get the message on snacking on junk food (crisps, chocolate, more crisps, sweeties etc). The calorie thing has really opened my eyes. I have 21lb to loose and don't think I'd manage this without making a big change. I'm really keen to learn about how to manage once I get there. Bobbiepin · 18/04/2018 20:48

MFP is setting me around 1400 and I've come in under that every day so far. I'm not trying to starve myself, just being more thoughtful about food. I'm the same with junk snacking but the calorie counting has helped. I have some dried pineapple and some walkers spice tomato baked crisps. It's no chocolate but if I really need a snack then it'll do. Otherwise it's a matter of sticking to better, more balanced meals and trying to get DD out in the buggy more. The nice weather makes it much easier! Must remember the sun cream tomorrow, I burn so easily!

Ruggles · 19/04/2018 09:07

Morning - so excited to see the sun again. What a relief that Spring has arrived.... I'm going to get outside as much as possible today and get the vit d going. Good reminder about suntan lotion Bobbie. One of my DCs burnt in the garden yesterday - he has never burnt before - he's gone back to school today with a red face and arms BlushShockSad
I have dug out a summer dress, which doesn't fit at the mo, but have hung up for me to see. Someone recommended this upthread and it's really motivating!

How's every one getting on?

Pythone · 19/04/2018 09:10

Thanks everyone! You're right, having this thread really does help! For dinner I made sausage casserole, but an amended version with no wine, lean bacon medallions instead of normal bacon, a lot less oil, etc.

I've prelogged my calories on MFP today and am going to try very hard to stick to them. Day 4 of the 30 Day Shred today!

@Bobbiepin - I'm on around 1400 as well, and it is eye-opening, isn't it? I wouldn't usually think twice about eating a chocolate bar and a packet of crisps, but I would now that it's a quarter of my daily intake allowance!

Bobbiepin · 19/04/2018 09:36

@pythone that's exactly it. Like I could have a chocolate bar, or I could have a cup of coffee and an apple and some pineapple etc. Even things like weighing some foods, I usually pile up my pittas with hummous and even the low fat version I had half of what i usually would be that was still 100 calories, just in hummous!

I need to go to asda and would usually walk with DD but I'm unsure about taking her out in the sun before I can get some cream on her (that's why I'm going to asda). Would a muslin over her legs be ok?

Ruggles · 19/04/2018 10:16

Think muslin over legs would be good - esp as still quite early. Then again, I didn't do too well on the suncare yesterday...

Pythone it really is eye-opening. I'm like you - I don't think twice about eating stuff that is 1/4 of my daily allowance. I think it will really help me understand what balance and moderation mean. Latte coffees and wine too....

Hello all! Just popping in to say hi, it’s been super busy the last 2 days! Will be settling down later to catch up properly with the thread. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! 🌞

Hey @sundaygirls hope you're ok. Definitely enjoying the sunshine, although getting sun cream on DD is a challenge! Gonna go for another walk soon, got some things to do in town but wanna take some detours and get some more steps in. I've downloaded map my walk which links to my fitness pal. I'm 2oz off being under 12st so really want to work on that today.

Hope everyone is having a good day today, remember to stay hydrated and don't give in to too much ice cream!

QueenOfMyWorld · 20/04/2018 12:26

Have you tried couch to 5k app? I use this alongside myfitnesspal

Bobbiepin · 20/04/2018 13:41

I've not tried it but I've heard good things about it. I'm usually a parkrun regular and 5k is a happy distance for me but I'm struggling with sciatica left over from my pregnancy so I can't always run unfortunately. Walking is a gentle enough form of exercise that I don't need childcare for so I'm getting out as much as I can. 3 miles done this afternoon.

MrsTylerJoseph · 20/04/2018 20:59

Had my weekly weigh in today and lost 1.1kg which is 2.4lbs. Happy with that and makes up for last weeks tiny weight loss.

Bobbiepin · 21/04/2018 20:16

Well done @mrstylerjosephs!

How's everyone doing? Hope you've all been enjoying the sunshine.

R00tat00tt00t · 22/04/2018 08:01

Morning! Just weighed in for my weekly update and realised I didn't weigh myself last Sunday Confused - anyway I'm down 1.2kg in the 2 weeks since I joined this thread. Mixed feelings on that as I know it is a reasonably good loss and slow and sensible is more likely to stay off BUT a bigger weight loss, say 2kg in 2 weeks would have been very motivating. I feel like I've been really careful with my eating and whilst I've not felt hungry I have had to work hard not to snack/nibble when offered treats. I've also been a bit more active than usual with more walking but no "formal exercise" like gym, classes, running etc as I don't have any proper trainers at the moment. I know that if I keep going with this and the weight comes off steadily I'll get there in time but I'm worried I'll lose interest when I can't see any obvious visual improvement iyswim? Will have to up the exercise I think even if it's short 5m sessions of marching on the spot and walking up and down the stairs? That sounds pretty pathetic but would be a start...
My goals this week:
-packed lunches: salads/soup to avoid unwanted, carb heavy lunches.
-minimum of 15m extra activity daily
-drink more water
-0.5kg weight loss by next Sunday
I'm going to hang a favourite sundress that was a bit too tight last year on wardrobe door to motivate me.
Hope you're all doing well and look forward to hearing your progress.

R00tat00tt00t · 22/04/2018 11:25

Me again! Just tried on the sundress I mentioned in last post. It fits comfortably but would look much better if I could lose a few inches around my waist/belly and also if my upper arms were more toned. I don't have bingo wings but there's no definition. I think some area specific exercises is needed. Off to research upper arm and abs workouts on YouTube. (I have a hundred other things I should be doing of course!)

Bobbiepin · 23/04/2018 09:04

Weighed myself this morning. Still 12st, not lost anything this week. I'm averaging around 1000 calories a day (good food too, not 1000 calories of chocolate, although that would be nice) and walking 3 miles a day. Feeling a bit down hearted at that.

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/04/2018 09:25

Another pound off 😀
Still nowhere near what I wanted to lose , and holiday is next Monday
But , at least I can do my new trousers up , so that’s progress

buddahsitter · 23/04/2018 09:31

I would love to join you and will be writing every day about progress.
Thank you, this is just what I need.

R00tat00tt00t · 23/04/2018 10:55

Bobbie Don't feel too disheartened, sometimes it's good to plateau for a bit before losing more. Could you try switching some of your exercise to work different muscles groups? Maybe your body is "getting used to" the extra walking but maybe some different exercises might help? Maybe try to focus on other positives than just the numbers on the scales e.g. do your clothes fit better, have you eaten more wholesome foods, is your skin more glowing, do you feel more energised/less sluggish???? Keep going.

R00tat00tt00t · 23/04/2018 10:59

Doilook - well done! How you feel in yourself and how your clothes fit are just as important as what the scales say. Keep going for this last week before your hols and you could easily drop another pound or more. Enjoy your holiday. Where are you going? *

Buddha* - welcome!

catlover99 · 23/04/2018 16:54

Just dropping in to say hi and I am still hanging in there, slowly losing the odd lb here or there, in between plateaus and various glitches. I have been quite busy and also enjoying the sunshine these past few days. I am not quite hitting targets, but have lost overall 4lbs since starting on this thread, and am feeling fitter because I have been going running again. I have set myself a new timescale (until May 26, when I have a big social event going on), and am aiming for 10 st 2 lb by then.

Hope you have all been enjoying the nice weather!

Pythone · 23/04/2018 17:55

Another week down, and I still haven't lost that 1lb to make it up to half a stone! This week, I'm going to be super strict - no treats/making up for it tomorrow, etc. etc.

cheshiremama89 · 23/04/2018 19:55

First week of trying to be good and 5lbs off despite a big roast, choc cake and Yo Sushi binge!!!

Now back in the 9st category albeit by the skin of my teeth!

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/04/2018 21:40

ROOtatOOttOOt
We’re off on a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords So lots of walking and sightseeing ...
And errrr .. eating and drinking
Ps hope I spelt your name correctly

R00tat00tt00t · 23/04/2018 23:31

Oh doilooklikeatourist that sounds wonderful. We went to Norway a few years ago and loved it. The air felt to clean and the fjords were stunning. Would love to go back sometime but so many other places to explore. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Cheshire is that 5lb off in 1 week? Wow!
