Hi Smile

I have a significant birthday coming up in 5 weeks time.

I really really want to lose a stone by then. I'm 10st 8lb now. I have been creeping up from 9 1/2 stone since autumn last year. I'm best at 9 1/2 stone, I feel like "me" and my clothes fit properly.

I've been snacking and being lazy. Buying junk I know I don't need. Telling myself I'm going to start "tomorrow" every day but failing by teatime. I really don't want to have this extra stone on my birthday.

Does anyone else fancy joining me for support/tips swapping/motivation? Apparently, if you've made a written commitment, it's 58% more likely to happen than if you only thought it. Or something. All I know is I want to lose this stone and a few buddies along the way would be great Smile

Anyone in with me?

Thanks SundayGirls - I managed to go to a children's party today and turn down cake, pizza and home-made scones!!

Narkle · 15/04/2018 12:58

Well done to everyone who's managed to lose anything over the last week or so.

I've finally got onto the scales this morning and am two lbs up Blush
So new start tomorrow when I'm back at work and away from food again!

Bobbiepin · 15/04/2018 19:28

@sundaygirls That's great! Has it helped curb the snacking?

@narkle tomorrow is a fresh start, keep focussed and those 2 lbs will be gone before you know it. We all have bad days, don't beat yourself up about it. We got a Chinese take away last night, so I'm avoiding the scales today.

cheshiremama89 · 16/04/2018 02:52

Well today I had a massive roast, dessert and a few celebrations...

Where is my self control Sad

Pythone · 16/04/2018 09:02

I was so bad this weekend! Went out to eat twice and also had pizza!!!

I also tried on some clothes and got a very unflattering view of myself in the changing room mirror (how do those mirrors always make you look so bad?!) - definitely need to work on getting fit as well as losing weight!

I've lost 6lb so far (didn't get my 5lb reward jeans as they look terrible in real life!) but cannot seem to shift that 1lb to get to half a stone, so that's my target for this week.

This morning I am going to start... the 30 Day Shred. Normally, exercise for me is lifting a fork, or maybe a gentle swim, so I think it's going to be pretty challenging!

Hope everyone else has a good day!

Ruggles · 16/04/2018 09:14

Hi everyone. Well done with the weight loss despite temptations!!

Pythone it sounds like you are doing really well. Good luck with the Shred. A friend did it and hated it to start with, but she stuck with it and it got easier and she really improved her fitness.

Welcome GU24 .

Goodluck Narkle. It will go in no time!
How's everything Bobbiepin and SundayGirl?

I had a great meal out, managed to avoid bread and pudding, but had quite a few glasses of wine. I spent yesterday reading and thinking about food and have decided to start the Blood Sugar Diet for 8 weeks. I've realised that my menu planning / family cooking / my self control are a general odds with my desire to lose a stone in 5 weeks... Confused Confused. So, I've made a commitment to stick to this for 8 weeks and see where it gets me. It's a good time as the DCs go back to school this week (hurrah) and there are no big distractions - we do have a holiday booked for half term, but it's self catering, so I can manage to keep on. I haven't done a diet before where I've got to calorie count, so that will take a bit of getting used to, but I'm excited to learn along the way.

My daily commitment is 10,000, three meals and no snacks / wine. Shock

Doilooklikeatourist · 16/04/2018 09:34

I’ve lost a whole pound !
Pretty pathetic really , but it’s 1lb off
Ruggles I love Ottolenghi ( only been once ... we’ll we do live in Wales , so it’s a bit of a trek ! ) and have loads of the recipe books
Made some hummus yesterday , had it for lunch with loads of salad and 2 ryvita
My challenge for this week is eat a salad a day

Pythone · 16/04/2018 12:15

Thanks @Ruggles!

I have now done day one of the Shred - it wasn't AS bad as I expected it to be, but I was exhausted by the end of it! I went up to shower afterwards, went back down to get something I'd forgotten and almost fell down the stairs! Also am really bad at crunches.

R00tat00tt00t · 16/04/2018 14:37

Aargh! I've been trying hard not to "nibble" on treats this week and whilst I haven't been eating super healthy meals they have been more balanced than usual with less carbs, more veg. Despite this I have put on 1/2-1lb!!! It is my time of the month so hoping some of it is just fluid retention? More exercise and less food this week...

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/04/2018 15:18

Oh Sundaygirls loving your point that even loosing 1lb a week means 2 st in 6 months - that's very motivating thanks Grin

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/04/2018 15:21

🙄 Rootatootoot I spent much of the Easter hols polishing off bags of mini eggs! SO bad. I don't normally buy things like that but they were just sat there looking at me. Hence I have decided that enough is really enough!

Bobbiepin · 16/04/2018 16:03

Weighed myself, down 5lbs total. Feeling very pleased with myself not that you can see it coming off the mum tum. MFP has helped massively, I look at the calories on things and genuinely question if its worth it. I've surprised myself with how little food I actually need. A little bit of hunger doesn't hurt and I don't have to eat at the slightest twinge.

@ruggles I hope that 10,000 is steps not calories Wink How does the blood sugar diet work?

@pythone I have 30 day shred at home, I managed one circuit before my back hurt too much to continue but it was good. Its great for a challenging but super short workout.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/04/2018 18:10

Just wondering how often everyone is weighing themselves?

Pythone · 16/04/2018 18:36

I'm weighing myself once a day; as it goes up and down a bit, it's nice to see it as an overall downward trend!

Bobbiepin · 16/04/2018 21:29

Once a day, first thing in the morning (after a wee and a few, before breakfast). Looking for the best possible and we all weigh more in the evening.

Bobbiepin · 16/04/2018 21:29

and a feed*

SundayGirls · 16/04/2018 23:07

Evening! bobbie Well done for your 5lb off, that is fantastic progress! Star only 2lb off half a stone!
Getting involved with the hobby in the evening has definitely helped curb the snacking! My brain is engaged in something else than the track from the sofa to the kitchen Smile I have got in the habit of feeling a bit guilty for doing anything that isn't home/family related except for basics like getting my hair cut or whatever, it's a completely self-imposed guilt but it has felt luxurious to make a bit of time for my craft hobby, that serves no particularly useful purpose at all except that I like it Grin

Pythone 6lb is very good progress! You'll get to that half a stone in no time!

Ruggles the blood sugar diet is very interesting! Let us know how you get on with it. I thought it was good when I did it (was already mostly eating for my blood type but there was a few good adjustments).

Doilook a pound off is still something off as opposed to maintaining or putting on, so well done you!

R00 I always weigh a good 2-3lb heavier at the time of the month, it goes straight away usually after, must be water retention?! I always find it disheartening to see an increase at the time, and want to give up, but it's really worth sticking to the plan despite that.

Smiled I weigh every day first thing in the morning, except after a really bad day of snacking Grin but even then it's better for me to face the music, I'd always rather know where I'm up to. I found once a week too little as I fell into the pattern of cheating for the first few days and then try and make up for it the other days. It's very personal what suits best though.

Cheshire don't worry about the roast dinner, just start again fresh tomorrow, there's always a new day and a new fresh start!

I'm still just within my 10st 2lb today but I had a very long walk today and I've kept off the snacks so I'm hoping that I might have a shift on the scales tomorrow. Really want to get to my 9st 13lb goal for next week! I have taken a picture of my fave dress and made it my phone screensaver catlover and I have to say it's a very good reminder! Grin

Enjoying reading everyone's progress.
Sunday you're very good with all your positive encouragement for us all!
I'm only weighing myself twice a week, first thing after a wee and before shower.
The scales haven't shifted much for me yet but I am definitely eating more healthily in terms of more fresh, less processed and more salad veg, oily fish etc. Also taking a multivitamin but mainly for the vitamin D after a long winter. I do feel better for it but may just be psychological.
Keep going everyone Smile

Bobbiepin · 17/04/2018 23:28

sundaygirls time for yourself when you're a busy mum of 3 is vital, and if it helps with the evening snacking, all the better. I'm pleased you're enjoying it.

I ate a little more today, compared to the last week (about 1250 calories) but walked to a baby group in the next town (45 mins each way) so hoping it balances out.

@r00t your diet sounds wonderful, so much good stuff, no wonder you're feeling the benefits. I would put that down to your good choices & not the multivitamin. Hopefully it'll start to show on the scales soon.

BodgingThisMumThing · 18/04/2018 08:23

1lb down this week so 11.2. Only log my weight on Wednesday but can’t help weighing throughout the week too, yesterday I was 11.0, so annoying that when I’ve got to log my weight I’m bloated Grin but hopefully it’s a bigger loss next week. 7 weeks in and lost 13lbs so not the stone I hoped but slow and steady!

Ruggles · 18/04/2018 15:36

Well done with all the weight loss everyone, esp you Bobbie, you got back on track so well. It's so good to hear of you doing well and also all the nice food you are eating! It's really motivating and spuring me into action.

The Blood Sugar Diet was put together by Michael Moesley (who did the 5:2) and it's aimed at people who are pre-diabetic / want to lose a lot of weight fast. I obviously want to do that (!!!), but also like the idea that it re-sets your body and mind in relation to sugar and carbs. You eat 800 calories a day for 8/12 weeks. There's a big focus on life-style change and maintenence. I have done a couple of diets in the past (Louise Parker and Metabolic Balance), but haven't calorie counted for myself before - it's really fascinating about what is food. I am only 2.5 days in and I am enjoying it so much. I know it's early days and I have a tendency to get a bit over-excited with new diets. Sunday, how did you get on with it? It would be interesting to hear.

ROO I am with you on this sunshine - just wonderful!!

Pythone · 18/04/2018 16:32

I was terrible this afternoon - started by allowing myself two pieces of white bread and butter as a treat, then just threw caution to the wind and ate three chocolate Hob Nobs and two packets of cheese puffs! Don't know what came over me Shock

Bobbiepin · 18/04/2018 17:59

Thanks Ruggles its a good start but there's a long way to go. I'm pleased I'm helping you get on it too. This thread is a real help keeping on track and not giving in. I totally agree about the calorie counting, do you find you choose not to have certain foods because they aren't worth the calories?

@bodging 13lbs is amazing, you'll have that last pound off so soon. Slow and steady is definitely a good plan, easier to keep it off that way.

@pythone, it's ok, we all slip up here and there. Put the hob nobs away (I'm impressed you stopped at 3, I definitely couldn't) and pick up where you left off. Don't throw the rest of the day away over a blip.

Pythone · 18/04/2018 19:00

@Bobbiepin Thank you! I've made the healthy dinner I was planning and am drinking lots of water! (I only managed to stop at three because there were only three left in the packet...)

Ruggles · 18/04/2018 19:00

Pythone I am impressed that you stopped too! Plus you let us all know. :) Try not to let it spoil the day. :)

Bobbie Well at the moment I am eating exactly what is in the diet plan which comes with a calorie total, but I am googling all the ingredients and really suprised. It's not low fat, but good fats. Not much sugar. It's quite comforting knowing that I don't have to decide anything! I have a long way to go, but feel I am thin!!
