Anyone else planning to start on 1st January?

I need to lose approximately 30lbs.

Fish you are right I usually sit hungry all day at work then binge when I get home. Thankfully I only work two days.

There is nothing for me to eat at work - I have some skips for the drive home.

Redpony1 · 02/01/2018 15:34

I have 2 stone to lose. I'm not 'dieting' i am making a conscience effort to improve my eating habits and keep a sustainable routine of food.

It's hard because i REALLY LOVE FOOD and i am rarely home to prep food so eat on the go a lot.

Is anyone incorporating exercise too? I already run a few times a week but i am going to attempt a couple of days a week conditioning at the gym too, but will build up to that.

Thisnamechanger · 02/01/2018 17:53

Anyone else got mega hunger pangs Shock

30 more mins of work left.

EzioAuditore · 02/01/2018 18:22

I officially start on Jan 4th – the 1st coincided with the arrival of AF so I am currently a mopey mess and devoid of all willpower. But I set my new gym membership to start from Thursday and have booked two evenings of classes over the next week. Hoping that having sessions actually booked means I won't wimp out at the last minute.

Fridge is also full of vegetables, and I've hidden the sugar-laden stuff we kept getting gifted over Christmas/NY. It might re-emerge once I can trust myself not to eat half a box of biscuits in a single sitting.

I'm currently at my highest ever weight of 195lbs, and am determined not to keep rising to 200. I have 3 stone to lose within the next year (maid of honour at my best friend's wedding next Jan!). I used to be quite slim, but 5 years of postgrad (lots of sitting down, high stress bingeing, and not much time for cooking) and a 3 year battle with depression led to a ton of rubbish food and not much exercise. So now trying to undo the bad work of the last half-decade…

frankiehat · 02/01/2018 18:27

I've just eaten two hard boiled eggs with sriracha as a snack.

RenaissanceBunny · 02/01/2018 18:32

So I went out and bought scales today - turns out I'm 4lbs lighter than I thought I was. A lovely boost to the start of my attempt at weight loss. 7lbs 2 to go before I get to my intermediate goal - the long term goal is a number so big I don't want to think about it. My trouble is I loose weight really easily but it also comes back on easily so I'm relying on the support of you lovely ladies for long term (i.e. more than a week) motivation.

wizzler · 02/01/2018 18:39

I'm in.

Went to Boots and got weighed today .. am planning to go once a week.

Am 12st 13lbs, and need to lose at least 2 stone .

Am planning to eat healthier ( Fewer maltesers, more fruit), and walk more.

Feeling positive now I have started.

In the past I lost 1.5 stone with WW, but was also on one of these threads at the same time which was really helpful .. I tend to struggle with motivation when weight loss starts to plateau.

I suggested dry january to DH. He pointed out that I hardly drink alcohol and that a chocolate free January may be more appropriate... so that is an extra challenge I am taking on.

userofthiswebsite · 02/01/2018 20:59

My day 2 has gone ok.

B - apple
L - brown bread egg sandwich
D - breaded cod and broccoli and peas
S - few biscuits and chocs and cups of tea

Exercise - v good
Walking to and from work and lunchtime walk - 250
One hour on the treadmill at gym - 580

ifIsaynodontjustaskdad · 02/01/2018 21:20

Appears the flu and sinusitis I've had since Dec 20th has a use, 6 lbs down because I just don't want to eat. Seriously not worth it though

Redpony1 · 02/01/2018 21:23

Day 1 done.

B: 1 slice of toast
L: tuna past with extra light mayo
D: chicken stirfry
S: celery & carrot sticks & 2 boiled eggs.

Went to the gym and did 10 miles on the bike and cooled down with a 12min uphill walk on the treadmill.

Am i skinny yet?!?

RenaissanceBunny · 02/01/2018 21:50

Well done userofthiswebsite and Redpony1 excellent exercising! I've just done half an hour of Just Dance on the Wii - apparently it was the equivalent of running 10 times around Wembley Stadium. It is really convenient as I just jumped straight in the shower afterwards and I'm now in my pyjamas so no extra showers or clothing changes to find time for in the day.

Thedietstartsnow · 02/01/2018 22:00

Hello, all going well here.trying to leave it as long as possible before I weigh myself...if I'm weighing and measuring my food I don't need to weigh myself🙄...well I will see how long I go before I crack...I end up on and off the scales trying to squeeze a wee out ,or moving the scales round the bathroom to get a lower reading ☹️

CrestedTit · 02/01/2018 22:10

OK day today (although too much bread):

B - 2 poached eggs, 1 slice toast
L - egg sandwich, veg crisps
T - lentil soup, salad, bread roll, high protein yoghurt

No alcohol or snacks Halo

fadingblonde1 · 02/01/2018 22:32

Day two done.
Cereal bar for breakfast, 400 cal sandwich for lunch, a quorn burger and sweet potato for tea. I've managed to avoid snacks and wine but day will be harder I'm sure. It's usually my fall down day.

userofthiswebsite · 02/01/2018 22:45

Thanks Renaissance Bunny - your post made me smile.

Glad you enjoyed the Wii.

I quite often do the straight into PJs after exercise in the evening. Also means one less outfit to iron

:-)

TheLegendOfBeans · 02/01/2018 22:56

Hard hard day today but did not fall victim to snacks & sweeties.

Sat feeling hungry right now but my stomach has to get used to feeling hungry so it can shrink back a bit.

OctopusArmEnvy · 03/01/2018 00:01

Not a bad day here
Sandwich for lunch and Christmas corn and rice for tea. Snack was 1 apple.
Drank 4 big water bottles of water.
Exercise wise - yoga and 5k run.
Not feeling so confident about next 2 days as I’m staying at my sisters...

FatMeBeGone · 03/01/2018 00:53

I’m going to join you all starting tomorrow. Just reactivated MFP which I used for a week in the summer before giving up on it. I’m going to copy pp’s dh’s idea of a chocolate feee January as I don’t drink so dry jan is wasted on me!! I have 5 st to lose which is so scary and that only gets me to 11stone Blush but bmi would at least be 25. I’ll try doing exercise DVDs and walk more (if it ever stops raining here!!!) I think my focus will also be on nutrition and cooking from scratch. I am a rubbish cook so that will be challenging and I’ve a baby and preschooler to cook for too so would really like to master cooking for their sakes too.

Redpony1 · 03/01/2018 09:07

Day 2 Smile

I struggle with breakfast, i get up at 5am, i don't like oats/porridge so have toast. I tried fruit but it's not enough energy to start my long days, and i am not a fan of cereals without loading them with milk and sugar/sweetener! I'm pretty settled with toast as i can eat it whilst gettingready and walking around. Surely 1 'bad' thing a day isn't going to hurt me?! Help!

My routine daily is pretty intense, 5am start, 3 horses to deal with before working in another County full time, back, do the horses and ride, some nights go for a run all before eating dinner around 9pm.

Redpony1 · 03/01/2018 09:09

I’ll try doing exercise DVDs and walk more (if it ever stops raining here!!!)

Rain won't melt you Wink Embrace the UK weather! Grin I ride/run in any whether except ice/gale force winds

Threehoursfromhome · 03/01/2018 09:44

Yesterday went okay. Toast and the last of the Christmas pate for breakfast, veg soup, ryebread and some cheese for lunch. Apple and a handful of nuts for a snack, quorn escalope and oven roast vegetables for dinner. Managed to resist the 3:30pm chocolate run, which is my Achilles heal, and did a weights session, and about five miles walking.

However it was quite boring foodwise, which is one of my issues. I can eat like this, I don't feel particularly hungry, it's low on added sugar, includes five portions of fruit and veg a day, but it doesn't bring me much joy... I suppose the bigger question is whether I should think of food as something which should bring joy.

Oh well, hopefully faster running times and lifting bigger weights will bring me joy instead

Redpony1 · 03/01/2018 10:38

I suppose the bigger question is whether I should think of food as something which should bring joy.

I ask myself this too. The answer is yes & no i think! As a child we had square meals, meat & veg, no puddings except on a Sunday, which was a treat. I used to look forward to my Sunday pudding so much!
These days too many of us 'treat' ourselves on a daily or every other day basis, that's not a treat it's a bad routine so i am also doing chocolate & biscuit free January Smile

AppyForts · 03/01/2018 11:19

Hi all. Can I join you?

I started yesterday. I have a stone to lose initially, then will reassess (if I can get and keep that off) as to whether I need to lose more. My BMI is actually OK, but I have big belly Sad which cant be good for my health (and isn't good for my look Grin).

One of my big issues is drinking too much wine and I'm facing up to that now. I'm doing Dry January for all sorts of health and life reasons, but hoping it will also kick start a bit of weight loss and maybe break the cycle of drinking wine most nights.

I've been for a long walk yesterday and planning on starting the 30 Day Shred DVD this evening (have used it before with good results).

Also sorting my diet out. I'm going veggie for January as a way of trying to be more imaginative with my cooking rather than relying on meat and two veg. Did a healthy food shop and meal plan on NYE so no excuses Grin.

Yesterday I had:
Breakfast: 2 pieces of fruit (struggling with eating a good breakfast early in the morning...will persevere
Lunch: 2-egg veggie omelette and big spinach/cucumber/tomato salad
Snacks: a piece of fruit, a few dried banana chips & pecans
Dinner: Coconut lentil dahl & roasted veg

Today I had 2 bits of fruit for breakfast again, although going to start trying to get some porridge or yoghurt down me too. I've made a big egg salad for my lunch, have some nuts for a snack and am making a lentil and sweet potato shepherds pie for tonight to have with steamed greens.

Nice to have others to bore talk to about this Grin

twobambinos · 03/01/2018 11:39

Can I join. Feel like I'm back to where I started dieting in October after the Christmas gluttony Shock have started today. More active more water more veggies and a whole lot less sweets and treats. Have jusy had a banana for breakfast as woke up late.
10st 5 would love to lose 1st 5. Have a lovely weekend away with dh in Feb would love to have a half a stone gone by then.

Best of luck everyone.

Thisnamechanger · 03/01/2018 12:20

Trying to work up enthusiasm for veggies and brown rice for lunch - I'm sure it'll be fine once my tastebuds readjust. No snacks, just tea!
