My Tesco’s is open 9-6

IrritatedUser1960 · 01/01/2018 10:58

I started the Exante diet today, I have to lose 5 stone. I'm newly single and I'm meeting up with old friends I haven't seen for 30 years in May. I was slim back them and I am not going to be the object of pity. I'm going to do this.

Msqueen33 · 01/01/2018 11:02

@IrritatedUser1960 I’m doing something very similar but called slim and save. My goal is to lose 5 stone by July.

Myusername2015 · 01/01/2018 11:04

I’m in! Joined ww last week and today is my first proper day ..nice new journal meals planned feeling positive (although I often am 2 hours into a diet Grin)

CrestedTit · 01/01/2018 11:04

Can I join please? I'm aiming for no snacks and no booze on weeknights. Going to look at it as a week long resolution to start with (anyone can do a week, right?) and then reassess.

Just off on a new years run now. Good luck for the first day all.x

FitBitFanClub · 01/01/2018 11:10

Spouting "diets don't work" isn't helpful in a Weight Loss Thread. And technically, "diet" means what you eat, anyway, so that covers all of us.
I would agree that faddy "I'm only going to eat spinach and eggs for a month" regimes aren't going to help long-term, although they might give someone an initial boost to get going.
Weight Watchers are good because they're all about healthy living and exercise too, which is a good message to anyone. I've just lost 2 stone since mid-August and after a mini-lapse over Christmas, am back on it to get another stone off by Easter.
The other thing to remember is that, whilst you obviously have to avoid sweets, cakes and alcohol in order to really shift the pounds, if you deny yourself too much, you just won't keep it up. I think it's important to build in little treats for yourself, because life goes on and no one wants to be that diet bore (nudges self) who stops being invited anywhere because they can't/won't participate. WW (and probably SW too) allow for those little treats and therefore have good success rates.

Good luck everyone.

LemonadeWithACherry · 01/01/2018 11:19

I've started the Whole30 today to give me a boost then moving on to paleo afterwards. I can't face finding out what I weigh yet, so I've weighed myself in kg as I don't understand them Grin

So far I've eaten a mushroom and onion omelette with tomatoes, and a spinach, blueberry and cherry smoothie made with coconut milk. I'm having salmon and a big salad for dinner and pork belly with sweet potatoes and cabbage for tea. Feeling very determined. I can't exercise much as I have MS but I'm going to do more than I have been.

Good luck everyone!

BeyondAssignation · 01/01/2018 11:20

^ this is why I have saved my decent chocolates from Xmas, to gradually eat small portions of :)

DH is sabotaging today Hmm but I can still portion control the crap...

Whatsinanameanyway201 · 01/01/2018 11:20

Me too! Good luck 😘

BeyondAssignation · 01/01/2018 11:21

I can't exercise much either lemon, I have health crap too. So it has to be 99% food change

sausagebaconandtomatobutty · 01/01/2018 11:29

Joining the turning 40 this year brigade 😬

I will not hit my 40s wearing a size 22 -no way!

FlopIsMyParentingGuru · 01/01/2018 11:43

I know this doesn't sound much but I would like to re lose the three pounds I put on over Christmas.

I'm at the end of a long weight loss journey and will have lost 6 and a half stone if I relose those few pounds.

Don't want it to creep back on slowly

Eminybob · 01/01/2018 11:45

I’m on board.

I have approx 4 stone to lose. I have been a yo-yo dieter all my life, 4-5 years ago I got down to my optimum weight and felt amazing, but then since having DS my weight has crept up and up and I’m the biggest I have ever been. I can’t even look in the mirror I’m so disgusted with myself.

I am planning dry January (I drink far too much and this is the cause of a lot of my weight gain) and counting calories on MFP.
I’m also going to dust the Fitbit off, and start waking more.

ifIsaynodontjustaskdad · 01/01/2018 11:51

I'm in. I'm 40 thus year, and it's our 20 year uni reunion just before. A combination of no exercise, comfort eating and antidepressants sees me at 10st 8lb this morning. For my height I'm obese and I feel it.

I also have endometriosis and I feel much better when is stick to the endo diet but sadly no dairy, no soy, no wheat, no red meat, no caffeine, no sugar and no alcohol, particularly the last 2 are hard to maintain. As my new meds have diabetes as a very common side effect and also no alcohol so hoping that I can find a way to make it work for me. However no treats for life is a bit meh so support welcome!

I want back in my clothes, I'm too tight to buy more.

I've also invested in a daily om yoga course to see if I can fit some exercise in my day. Wish me luck

BiteyShark · 01/01/2018 11:57

Joining, I know I have put weight on as all my big clothes are tight. Not following any diet plan but will try and make better choices and eat more veg and salads (which I do like) rather than beige food (which is easy to grab when feeling tired). Haven't weighed myself yet but suspect about 2 stone to lose.

CaptainHarville · 01/01/2018 11:59

I'm starting again, another who turns 40 this year. Need to lose about 40 pounds.

I'm going to try and give up my cola habit too. Not because of health but to save money and reduce the mountain of plastic waste it generates.

Need to try and reduce carbs but my diet is so abnormal at the moment I think each day I'll try and eat proper food.

CrestedTit · 01/01/2018 12:14

Wise words FitBitFanClub!

Eminybob good luck with dry January! I'm convinced that alcohol is the cause of my podgy stomach so I'll be joining you for the weeknights at least.

BeyondAssignation · 01/01/2018 12:30

I'm doing it in stages, to make it look less daunting. My first goal is to get under 200lbs which 1. Is a nice number and 2. Gets me under 30bmi.

So right now, that's a smidge over two stone, but I don't know how quickly some of the xmas over-indulgence will fall off

BeyondAssignation · 01/01/2018 12:32

I'm doing a pretty much dry January. I swap to B black tower wine (half decent low alcohol and low cal wine) with soda, no more than once a week.

WentworthMillerMad · 01/01/2018 12:33

I am in. I have comfort eaten my through the autumn and Christmas. I am doing a dry January, mfp 1200 Cals per day, 30 mins very fast walking and eating less crap. I need to stop shoving food in my now fat face and get moving. I have 2 stones to lose. Am back to work on Friday and find it easier when I am in a routine. Will cut back this week as well.

thenightsky · 01/01/2018 12:39

I got on the scales for the first time in about 6 weeks and scared myself. I'm 2 stone over weight! I knew I had one stone to lose back in October, but I appear to have added a further stone since since then.

I'm hoping dry January and strictly no snacking will do good things.

FitBitFanClub · 01/01/2018 12:44

Initially I had 3 stone to lose, and I kept putting it off as it was just too daunting a prospect. So I just decided to ignore the whole amount and just look to small goals. Even after the first week, I started noticing that my clothes felt looser and my buttons stopped gaping. And then of course, as the weeks pass, people start noticing and complimenting you and that spurs you on too.
I didn't make it too hideous a regime of starving myself so it's become a quite pleasant way of life now. I'm certainly not calendar-watching as to when I can finish. I've lost around 1.7lbs a week on average, which is a healthy amount that makes keeping it off long-term more likely.
A Fitbit makes a dramatic difference to how much you move in a day - there's always an incentive to up your total.

ifIsaynodontjustaskdad · 01/01/2018 12:58

What's your first week goal then fitbitfanclub? Mine is no alcohol no sugar this week.

FitBitFanClub · 01/01/2018 13:11

Well, it's not really a first- week goal as I've been doing it for 4 months already. But I'm taking wine off the allowance for January and want the 2lbs I gained over Christmas gone asap.
I was doing 3 lots of 5 mile exercise bike rides per week, but need to increase that now. Poor dog is exhausted with all the extra walks he's been getting, and I'm going to continue that. Will be doing badminton weekly now, and may start back on my aerobics dvd, but not sure about that as not too nimble with high impact stuff since I broke my leg a few years back. We'll see.

Emma181026 · 01/01/2018 13:38

Hi all, jumping on the bandwagon. I think I'm around 11st 5 ish. And would love to get back to my magic 9st 10 that I was for my wedding. I'm only a shorty so feeling really too big for my frame at the mo. First mini goal- comfortably under 11st by end of Jan xxx
