Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Hello, I'm in! Have put on half a stone over the winter, now time to shift the winter padding. Have my 40th birthday in June so want it gone by then!

I'm going to be using MFP and trying to Shred most days although time is hard to find.

My weaknesses are wine and chocolate so it will be a challenge to avoid too much of both!

Starting weight: 9st 9.75lb
Target weight: 9st 2lb

Chocolatecake12 · 24/04/2017 14:23

I haven't bought the chocolate - it's all been bought for the kids for Easter.
I generally don't buy it myself and as for biscuits - I only buy the ones I don't like so no danger of me nibbling at those.
I guess the real tip I need is how to stay focussed.
Anyway today is a new week and I've been for a walk so feeling good and I've arranged to meet a friend tomorrow for a long coastal walk so looking forward to that.

Darlingdahlia · 24/04/2017 15:35

Hi can I join please? I have about 5lb-7lb lose, have lost about 1.5 stone over the last year following birth of last baby. I'm back down to a size 10 but got a flabby tummy after 3 c sections in 4 years so I'm hoping to tone up a bit too, but I fear my stomach may be beyond rehabilitation!

butlerchauffer · 24/04/2017 16:54

Weighed this morning and have put on, aarghhh! Daughters birthday party and pub to blame ( NO willpower ) Anyway yes Monday is a new week and have been to pilates and eating SMALL and healthy and hope that does the trick over the next few days. Is MFP any good?

Acornantics · 24/04/2017 17:03

I find MFP okay, but as I cook from scratch I don't think it's particularly accurate for home recipes. Does anyone else find this?

Food wise was good today with sugar free muesli for breakfast and a salad for lunch, some cashews and strawberries for a snack. And two delicious crumpets with jam and butter just now...oops!

Combat class tonight and healthy dinner planned.

fishonabicycle · 24/04/2017 17:10

Best tips I can think of is eat regular meals so you aren't starving - that's when you are liable to eat loads of junk. And don't worry if you have a bad day or a bad meal - just get back on it.

2boytrouble · 24/04/2017 17:10

Hi everyone

I've just started the Atkins diet today, I'm feeling pretty miserable! Need to lose about a stone and a half

PaintingOwls · 24/04/2017 17:58

I find MFP okay, but as I cook from scratch I don't think it's particularly accurate for home recipes. Does anyone else find this?

I just add all the ingredients up, so if I'm having a spag bol I'll list each ingredient separately. It takes a bit longer but I think it's more accurate that way.

Acornantics · 24/04/2017 19:33

painting I can't be bothered weighing the individual ingredients when I'm not using a specific recipe, it feels like such a faff...it's me, not the App's fault.

NewYearNewNickname · 24/04/2017 21:22

Well over the weekend I have put back on most of the weight I lost last week Angry Eating out two days in a row, too much alcohol and not enough exercise! Anyway it was the last day of the children's holidays here so we went on a family cycle ride to a farm that has a cafe and ice cream parlour. I had a bowl of soup for lunch and no ice cream or cake after. The cycle was 20k in total and then I did Attack this eve so hopefully made a good difference today by burning loads of calories!
About to plan my meals for the next few days so that should help keep me on track too.
I agree that MFP is easier to use when not cooking from scratch but I do have some recipes saved so that helps a bit.

Giddyaunt18 · 25/04/2017 14:21

Hi can I join? I'm 46, 5ft 5 and 10st 2lb this morning. I eat really healthy foods but am noticing as I get older I put on weight much easier. I walk the dog briskly every day for 45 mins to an hour but no weight has dropped since last summer when we got the dog!! I have done fast diet successfully in the past to get down to 9st 2 is but felt uncomfortable that it didn't fit in with family meals and was conscious of not getting enough iron/vits etc on fast days. Not sure how to go about it this time. Anyone tried the pint of water before every meal?

Giddyaunt18 · 25/04/2017 14:21

I'd like to get to 9st 7.

Giddyaunt18 · 25/04/2017 14:25

wetcardboard What was your starting weight?

Giddyaunt18 · 25/04/2017 14:35

Have decided to keep up my healthy proper meals. I already eat brown rice and pasta, grainy bread, natural yoghurt, lean meats and loads of veg and some fruit. I don't take sugar, rarely have a sweet tooth. Only drink on Fri, Sat and Sun and only 2 glasses of wine then.I should be kate Moss sized! My portions must be too big and I probably pick too often in between meals even if it is a healthy pick. So, am going to stick to 3 meals, portion controlled. NO SNACKING! Pint of water before each meal and only drink on 2 nights instead of 3. Will see how it goes. Today so far I have had:

Porridge with skimmed milk, blueberries and seeds

Small avocado with watercress, tomatoes and half slice of seedy bread, an apple and satsuma.

Will have the water before dinner as I've just decided this.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 25/04/2017 15:57

Can I join please??? 10 st 6 today. Aiming for 9 and a half stone by mid-July, the end of the summer term. I've lost 1 st 2 lbs so far and it has been really, really hard work. Lots of ups and downs!

BeaveredBadgered · 25/04/2017 16:18

Please can I join in? I'm 5'4 and 10st 2lbs. I've got about a stone to lose. Last three days I've done a 20 min HIIT work out in the morning but finding it hard to get motivated to diet as I've rarely been successful in the past.

I think my focus needs to be on portion sizes and reducing booze and snacks at work.

WeddingsAreStressful · 25/04/2017 16:35

Joining too, I'm 5'7" and weigh 10st 10lbs. I have 9lbs to lose until end of June. Have started exercising in the morning and cutting out sugary snacks...really hope it works!!!

tinydancer88 · 25/04/2017 17:47

Not a great day today... Succumbed to a giant slab of carrot cake. Staff rooms are deadly! I can cope with not buying/making calorific food myself, but there have been 3 birthdays in my office this week and I only have so much willpower Sad

butlerchauffer · 25/04/2017 19:46

Giddyaunt your food sounds really healthy! I too am going to try and reduce portion size, I cook for two teenagers and my husband who's on his feet all day and they eat big amounts so I do too Blush. A friend was recently told by a personal trainer that walking the dog probably wasn't enough to help with weight loss as it doesn't raise your heartbeat sufficiently :-( but surely it's still calories burnt?!
I'm going to drink lots of water too. Good luck

Giddyaunt18 · 25/04/2017 20:06

Butler I have a tall athletic husband and 2 teenagers to cook for too. I think my portion looks smaller than his then remember that his portions are huge! I walk the dog at speed. I probably cover 2.5/3 miles and when I get home I have a sweat on. I guess I thought doing this 7 days a week would make a difference rather than a 30 min jog twice a week. Kitchen is closed now after a lean pork chilli with a small serving of cous cous and green salad. Feel full.

wrinkleseverywhere · 25/04/2017 21:52

Can I join? I am supposed to be on the exercise bike but am faffing on MN instead. Hopefully this will give me some accountability!
I think I fit into the general size/age profile of this thread being 40, 5'4" and 10st10. I'm 7lbs over my usual weight & would like to be another 7lbs under that.
Today I ate a satsuma, a plum, a pear, a buffet lunch of salmon & salad, some apple pie (left the pastry) & a rhubarb fool. I think that's about 1100 cals.

MegBusset · 26/04/2017 08:17

I've been doing well but had a big work do last night with lots of wine and pizza!

Nevertheless I'm down a couple of lbs on the scales:

Starting weight: 9st 9.75lb
Current weight: 9st 7.75lb
Target: 9st 2lb
