Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Well done those who have lost already.

I've lost an overwhelming 3oz so far Grin

WeddingsAreStressful · 28/04/2017 23:57

How does everyoe deal with the hunger? I'm not eating so little, I eat about 1500-1600 calories a day (also exercise almost daily). I'm really struggling with being hungry so much...

Giddyaunt18 · 29/04/2017 09:11

Weddings I try to eat something filling for my meals. just eating porridge for breakfast and that keeps me full for ages. I will have a salad for lunch but always have protein in it so some chicken or tuna or beans and same with dinner but I have a small amount of carbs with dinner too. If I do get peckish I find a hot drink helps.

WeddingsAreStressful · 29/04/2017 16:25

@Gidddy I'm doing the same. I have eggs+avocado in the morning or porridge (home made, not the instant stuff, no sugar) and I usually have a salad for lunch but packed with protein (eggs, chicken). I just get reaaally hungry around 11am and then around 5pm. I can't get home to have dinner until around 7.30...it's that 2-3 hour window where I really struggle (and where, in the past, I would have a muffin/cake)

Giddyaunt18 · 29/04/2017 16:58

Try a few almonds. I think about 20 is 130 cals.

wrinkleseverywhere · 29/04/2017 20:30

Whoop, whoop, whoop ... I can join those who have lost as I'm down to 10st 7. That's 3lbs off this week although some of it will have been PMT bloat disappearing. Still, I am delighted as this is about the slimmest I have been all year. I've been faffing around doing low carb/high protein for weeks with no success & now I've gone back to calorie counting and I'm losing. Before I get too smug, let's see if I can keep it off over the weekend! I may not as today I have eaten:

  • breakfast - bacon sandwich
  • lunch - salad with a bit of cheese & a ham
  • tea - roast chicken. One roast potato, one roast parsnip, one Yorkshire pudding, a usual portion of chicken & mounds of veg. I may have a bit of rhubarb crumble later & I'm definitely having a gin.
Chocolatecake12 · 30/04/2017 07:29

My new scales arrived yesterday and I've just weighed myself. 2lb loss whoo hooo!!
I feel I've worked hard this week so I'm going to continue with making sure I do 10,000 steps each day and smaller portions.

Joinourclub · 30/04/2017 09:00

I need to make more of an effort with this as I'm staying static at 10 stone. I'm just reducing booze and chocolate at the moment, but think next week I'm going to focus on portion control and drink LOTS of water!

PaintingOwls · 30/04/2017 11:23

66.8kg this morning! Happy days!

Calorie-counting has worked a treat and I'm getting better at hitting my macros every day. I started off with 75% (!!!!) of my calories being carbs without realising, yesterday I was bang on the 50% target. The fat and protein is still off by about 4-8% but I'm not too concerned about that now.

I didn't go for a run yesterday as planned because I got my period at 5am and was in agony, still am. I will make use of tomorrow's bank holiday and do the run first thing in the morning, hopefully my womb will calm down by then.

I am low-key annoyed that calorie-counting has worked so well when the 30 day shred did bugger all for me, it feels like the results should have been higher given the amount of effort I put in.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/04/2017 11:56

Painting I heard somewhere that our weight is affected 80% by diet and 20% activity. I find the same thing though it helps maintain I think.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/04/2017 11:58

Still at 9st 13 after night out! Phew! I only had 3 drinks but shared a plate of smothered nachos!!! My saving grace is that I don't have dinner and I danced all night! Not sensible eating I know but doesn't happen very often.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/04/2017 11:58

didn't have dinner

eltsihT · 30/04/2017 13:01

Can I join in. Stepped on the scales this morning and I have crept up to 10st 1lb really want to be 9st 6lb.

Planning on stopping snacking and cutting down on portions so I can shift the weight. I could do with some friendly support and somewhere to post.

PaintingOwls · 30/04/2017 17:23

You've come to the right place eltsih! The best tip I can give you is to just make sure there aren't snacks in the house. You can't binge if it's not there.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 30/04/2017 20:29

I'm pretty much the same as you eltsihT - ideally want to be 9 stone 6 lbs but am currently around 10 stone (I think - official weigh in tomorrow!).

I tend to fluctuate between 9.5 and 10.2 but definitely feel better / healthier around 9.7 so am aiming for 9.6 this time!
Will be cutting out the junk and having smaller portions.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/04/2017 22:18

You sound like me Butterfly on my way down from 10st 2 on Monday to 9st 13 today. In an ideal world I'd be 9st 4 but am happy to get to 9st 7 and see how I feel. I am finding it easier to just NOT SNACK AT ALL and eat smaller portions plus speedy dog walks! Working so far. Good luck.

wrinkleseverywhere · 30/04/2017 23:10

I'm very envious of all of those of you who are well into the 9st range already.
I have had another bad day. Breakfast was about 150 cals & I've had no supper other than an orange but lunch was a roast with loads of Yorkshire puddings, a delicious chocolate cake & some jelly. I really didn't need the jelly!

wrinkleseverywhere · 30/04/2017 23:20

And I had two glasses of wine, five mini creme eggs & a toffee. I spent the entire day sat on my backside other than when I cleaned the kitchen & did an hour's ironing.

Giddyaunt18 · 01/05/2017 08:59

Oh well wrinkles get back on it today. By the way I think it was the Yorkshire puds, chocolate cake and creme eggs that you didn't need, the jelly was the least of your problems LOL!

wrinkleseverywhere · 01/05/2017 12:00

Giddy that made me laugh. I meant that I don't particularly like jelly so it was just wasted calories but you are completely right. I needed that rap across the knuckles!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 01/05/2017 12:05

Well it was my official weigh in this morning and I am 9 stone 11 which I was pleasantly surprised about as thought my starting point would be more than that (I start my 'diet' today!).
I'm still aiming for 9 stone 6 though and know those last few lbs will be hard to shift.

So far I've had bitesize shredded wheat with skimmed milk & a glass of orange juice for breakfast, an apple as a snack, and a bagel (with butter & marmite) for lunch. Oh and 2 cups of tea!

eltsihT · 01/05/2017 18:31

Well day 1 done, just the dreaded evening to avoid snacking.

I am trying not to count calories just eat 2 sensible meals a day. (Breakfast is coffee and toast with marmite or a breakfast bar if I am at work so doesn't count in my head)

Dh is thinking about starting dieting to so that will hopefully help- his mum passed away a year ago so I don't want to push him as he is still struggling.

Anyway so far I have broccoli soup and a bread roll for lunch (2 teaspoons of ice cream - fed to me by my 3yo so I couldn't refuse) and dinner was baked potato, 3bbq ribs corn on the cob.

PaintingOwls · 01/05/2017 20:54

(Breakfast is coffee and toast with marmite or a breakfast bar if I am at work so doesn't count in my head)

That's at least 1-200 calories, you should definitely count them. Get on MyFitnessPal and see how much you're actually eating. I found that I was eating twice as much rice in a portion than I thought I was, for example.

As a way of update, today I ran another 5k. I found that I was running for longer without stopping, which is nice to notice.

My head is killing me today for some reason, I suspect it's my hormones as paracetamol isn't touching the pain at all.

wrinkleseverywhere · 01/05/2017 20:59

Well done on the running, painting.
A much better day here. Lunch was cold salmon & cold chicken with salad & a sausage roll; supper was prawns, cod & chorizo in a tomato sauce with peas & potatoes; snacks were an apple, a banana and some stewed rhubarb; 2 cups of tea but otherwise water or peppermint tea.

solittle · 01/05/2017 22:29

Hi, can I join too? I just recently edged over into the overweight category for BMI and want to do something about it before it becomes harder if that makes sense!

I'm not really weighing myself as I don't have scales - I'm going more on the look and feel of my body. I am very, very short which is part of the problem.

Over the last four weeks I've been walking to work (20 minutes each way) and to shops I would normally drive to, plus have cut out drinking multiple cups of tea and have swapped to water. I've recently started a new job so I have self-imposed rules that I only eat salad/soup at work and fruit as a snack, no chocolate/cake/crisps!

I'm doing quite well so far and logging calories using an app but mostly I am feeling a lot better in myself. I'm not depriving myself of alcohol and treats totally, but I am limiting them to times where they are justified as a treat, e.g. had lunch out for a colleague's birthday, but I won't have the glass of wine I used to reward myself for surviving Monday's with Shock
