Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Hi, can I join belatedly? Have been on a general health kick since about the end of March and have gone from 10st11lbs to around 9st,10lbs currently but would like to be around 9st,5/6lbs I think (that was my lowest weight a few years ago).

I have been doing MFP, upped my exercise and walk everywhere (never get bus to work now, even if it's raining!) I find planning my food for the day has been the key. My main issue is sugar cravings and drinking too much alcohol (obviously generally bad, not just for weight). I succumb to the vending machine at work far too much and I drink too much beer/wine in the week (though it's not as bad as it used to be!)

@PollyPelargonium52 - good idea about the chocolate drink. I used to do that years ago! I'll have a look for a gluten free alternative. Saying that....I can recall making up chocolate powder with hot water into a thick chocolate sauce and pouring over Rice Krispies in a desperate moment 😂

Herbie58 · 14/06/2017 12:27

@goingonabearhunt1 Welcome! Everyone on the group seems to be doing different diets and different stats but support is the name of the game!

I started out doing protein world and went from 9st 7 to 9st 1. I've just binned that in a strop after weight just sticking and not moving. And now I'm going with plain old healthy eating but in the 16:8 IF framework.

Good luck! X

theredjellybean · 14/06/2017 13:41

thanks Polly...will try that,

Giddyaunt18 · 14/06/2017 14:16

I've lost another pound! 9st 6 this morning. I know it could just be water but haven't seen a 6 for a lounge time. Now under target of 9st 7 but hanging on to get to 9st 4 as a safety net.
jelly I had a period of not being able to get to sleep a couple of years ago. I used hop and valerian tablets(Nytol herbal) and they did the trick pretty quickly. Stopped taking after 2 weeks but that was because eI was scared to stop sooner . Might just help break the cycle so you get into a new pattern without wine.

Bumblebzz · 14/06/2017 14:52

Congrats @Giddy, you are on a roll!

Giddyaunt18 · 14/06/2017 21:25

I know Bumble I really didn't expect to see more off just yet. All my clothes feel and look better. I wore a blouse to work today that I last wore when it was very hot about a month ago. Last time I had to leave the bottom button undone, today it did up easily.Grin

For me the way forward after I get to my target will definitely be no eating between meals at all. So easy to eat an extra 200 cals plus with a cracker here and a spoon of humous there. Over a week that's 1400! It's easy to see how the weight creeps back on.

Bumblebzz · 14/06/2017 22:30

I agree, same here, and I've also learned a lot about what my triggers are, as I've frequently stopped myself reaching for something sweet, usually when tired and/ or stressed.
16:8 is a very handy way for me to press a reset button on my eating/appetite, and it's so simple a concept!

PollyPelargonium52 · 15/06/2017 07:33

I don't dare eat humous at all even low fat humous the weight just jumps back on in no time. The same with pate sadly. Pity they are so tasty!

Orangecake123 · 15/06/2017 08:27

A big hello to all the new faces!

Congrats giddy aunt- you've done brilliantly !

I survived my 5K the previous Saturday. Total run time was 38 mins and 17 seconds. I'm studying in Europe at the moment, and one thing I didn't realize when I signed up in feb would be the temperature- It was a beautiful day but a crazy 26°C. xD Overall it was rather fun!

I started working out at the gym with a trainer on sunday- it feels good to actually just have a plan, but our first session left me very sore, the effects of which i can still feel four days later and I'm seeing her today. I weighed myself yesterday but I know it wasn't a real value- as It would be impossible to put on more than 4lbs on in a day! so I'm going to wait a little bit more before I weigh myself again. I don't have a scale so can only do it at the gym.

You guys have got my craving hummus now! I started making my own, adding cherry tomatoes with lemon juice and olive oil worked really well.

goingonabearhunt1 · 15/06/2017 10:54

Wow you guys all do so much exercise! I've realised in the last few months how inactive I'd become. Now I do a couple of gym classes a week and swim twice a week. It's true what they say; you do feel so much better when you exercise (I would have rolled my eyes at this before from the sofa Grin) I'd like to do more but I don't really have any more evenings free.

goingonabearhunt1 · 15/06/2017 10:56

Also as pp have mentioned, scales do indeed wildly fluctuate; last night I was 9st12lbs and then morning I'm 9st8lbs....crazy! Maybe there's something wrong with my scales. Or it could be water I guess.

theredjellybean · 15/06/2017 11:59

bearhunt...the wildly fluctuating scales is half the fun of this thread...try moving them around...mine can change by 4 kgs ( 8.8 lbs !!!) by just moving to different places in my house.
I have decided to just stick them in one spot and notmove them...as long as they go down i am not going to focus in the actual number.

I also measure myself once a month and judge loss by clothes fitting better and looking in the mirror .

Orange ..hurrha...well done on your 5 km. I ran today in 20 degrees and it felt like running with treacle legs...but i remembered a quote a friend sent me:

' i am a runner...ok i am slower than a herd of tortoises wading through peanut butter ..but i am running'

that was me today.
What is your next event ?
I am running my first 10 km for 3 yrs in 10 days and feeling a bit nervous

Giddyaunt18 · 15/06/2017 13:35

Always weigh at the same time of today going , never compare a night time weigh in with a morning one as we do get heavier throughout th day after eating, drinking etc. I always weigh first thing and naked!!

Polly Humous is a healthy food, I just make it part of my lunch now, not a snack.

Still 9st 6 today so not a fluke hopefully. Well done all. We're getting there!

goingonabearhunt1 · 15/06/2017 15:03

I take the morning weight as the correct one giddy I just weigh at night sometimes just to see how crazily different it is Grin

Going for a bike ride on Sat and usual exercise classes in the morning so that will counteract my lunch out to some extent hopefully (going to a nice veggie cafe so will be healthy but I will probably eat a lot!) Had a nice lentil/feta salad today with a small amount of honey mustard dressing. Will make that again as it was really tasty.

Well done orange, jelly and others on your running.

goingonabearhunt1 · 15/06/2017 15:12

Thanks to pps for the tips as well; I am using some of them. Not eating till later in the day particularly seems to help. I never feel like eating till around 10am anyway so I've just pushed all my eating back a few hours and find I end up eating less overall but don't feel any hungrier.

theredjellybean · 16/06/2017 07:53

I weighed the same today Confused
Despite no wine and running...but have got period... First for months... Might be that.
So I measured myself....lost 1.5 inch round bust, 1 inch round waist and an amazing 3 inches round hips/bottom.

Hurrah

No wonder clothes all fitting better

How has everyone else done this week?

Giddyaunt18 · 16/06/2017 08:01

Brilliant jelly I wish I'd measured now. Well done. I'm still at 9st 6 but not expecting anymore this week otherwise i'd be suspecting a tapeworm!

PollyPelargonium52 · 16/06/2017 08:34

I decided to measure my stomach and hips and am going to start doing Callanetics DVD twice weekly since I am getting nowhere with my diet absolutely nowhere although it may be water retention my belly is so bloated and a delayed period is edging through hurrumph.

theredjellybean · 16/06/2017 09:05

Polly....sympathy... Bloody menopause... I am so emotionally labile it's ridiculous.

PollyPelargonium52 · 16/06/2017 09:24

Yes redjellybean I was feeling ill April/May perimenopausal symptoms luckily iron has helped also vit b3 for the sleep at night and then just recently been taking Five Phos 12x homoeopathy for feeling more perky. It has really helped but not happy I still am getting periods although 7 weeks apart this time which is better than 3 weekly like recently! All round pants the sooner they are gone the better! We can but hope eh. :(

Herbie58 · 20/06/2017 07:35

Am getting really disheartened. I've stuck to 1000-1200 calories, not cheated, eaten well and not snacked. I've been doing low carb and only eating 12-8 (IF) and I've actually gained 2lb! It's not even the time of the month so can't blame that either.

This has been going on for 2 over weeks now, basically sticking at same weight. But today it went up 😢.

Feels like my body/metabolism is ruined from years of yo-yo dieting and I basically need to practically starve to lose weight.

It's not helped by my partner jauntily jumping off the scales with a lb a day (almost) weight loss. He's only been on it 11 days and lost 10lbs. Whereas I've been at this for nearly two months and had lost half a stone but just gained back 2. So demotivating.

PollyPelargonium52 · 20/06/2017 09:36

Yep I too feel totally despondent. I have given up spreading light butter on my bread in the past week. I don't eat junk at all nor do I drink.

I am starting aqua aerobics tonight but knowing my luck that will do diddly squat too.

I am going to put it down to my age (53) and aim to go twice weekly to aqua aerobics at least it will firm me up and hopefully lose some excess bulge off my stomach.

Perhaps I should just ignore the scales. Also maybe seeing all the other overweight women will cheer me up in the aqua class - lol.

theredjellybean · 20/06/2017 14:16

hello...i feel a bit despondent too...too hot to run and feel flabby, scales up 2 lbs here too....

i think i am just going on fact my clothes fit better ...

Herbie58 · 20/06/2017 14:35

Nice to know I'm not alone! 😆.

I'm literally sat in the office arguing with myself about going to Tesco to go buy goodies and treat myself. Or whether to drink the glass of water in front of me and try to strength it out....

Bread and chocolate....
