Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

No idea how I managed to post half of that in bold! Apologies 🙈

peabizzle · 12/06/2017 18:35

My plan so far is a diet whey protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then a low carb dinner with one of two pieces of fruit in between and 3 trips to the gym a week. Today has been a real struggle I've got no energy at all!

Bumblebzz · 12/06/2017 19:02

66kg this morning so that's 3kg down since I started in early May.
I just had a cheeky cake a little while ago but I'm enjoying sweet things less and less - I just need to remember that before I eat them!
Welcome newbies. For me it's all about mindful eating. And loads of exercise! I've done intermittent fasting over the last week(mostly skipping breakfast but yesterday we had a big family lunch out so I fasted between 2pm to 8am today instead which was easy to do given the massive feast). I'm doing it to kickstart some weight loss, probably won't do it long term but I can imagine doing it once or twice a week to offset something.

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/06/2017 07:27

I am no longer skipping meals as online it says it is unhealthy and doesn't help weight loss.

I have just cut down on the amount I eat breakfast and lunch this week. Only losing a measly quarter of a pound a day or something it is all too slow for me ..... Sigh!

PaintingOwls · 13/06/2017 07:52

Don't be discouraged, Polly I've lost on average 0.25kg a week. It has really added up after 2 months! Slow and steady is the way to go, this is a long term thing, yes?

Giddyaunt18 · 13/06/2017 07:59

Got on the scales this morning expecting a little gain as I had wholemeal pasta with a ricotta sauce last night but saw 9st 7 smiling back at me, so that's another .5 of a pound off since Saturday! The best bit is I feel so good, who knew no breakfast would suit me, a big breakfast fan. Grin

Giddyaunt18 · 13/06/2017 07:59

Polly, a quarter of a pound a day is mahoosive!!!

theredjellybean · 13/06/2017 08:35

Polly... Try to think in terms of a week's loss...weight can fluctuate so much day to day. A quarter of a pound a day is 1.75 lbs a week or half a stone in a month...now that sounds good to me

Bumblebzz · 13/06/2017 09:37

I'd be thrilled with losing .25 lbs a day!

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/06/2017 12:54

It's not every day though just here and there and some days for no apparent reason I am gaining - all very odd as I know I am eating less. :(

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/06/2017 12:55

Hoping to go to aqua aerobics soon so that might help. Sorry if I am impatient I just remember it being so much easier when I wasn't in my fifites like now!!

Herbie58 · 13/06/2017 13:47

I want alllllllllllll the chocolate in the world!!!!! God help me! 😫

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/06/2017 14:51

Lol I have decided to give up all sugary foods unless it is in e.g. bread. In a bit of a health drive at the min. The same goes for giving up all sweeteners apparently there is a link to tumours in the brain that is enough to put me off for life!

I ate my oats cereal and didn't miss the sweetener at all (Candarel or Splenda). I am now wondering why I even bothered as it adds nothing to the already lovely taste and I eat the cereal with fruit in it. For milk I use light almond milk it is quite sweet would that help any chocolate craving? Luckily mine is under the control at present.

theredjellybean · 13/06/2017 15:23

Herbie...is that a hormone driven desire by any chance :)

theredjellybean · 13/06/2017 15:24

i would allow myself a small bar..enjoy it, not feelguilty and compensate with a lower calorie supper...but then i do not see foods as 'good or bad'

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/06/2017 15:42

Hopefully my periods have buggered off now I am 53 and over the past few weeks I have noticed my sugar craving has totally gone. Long may it continue.

Herbie58 · 14/06/2017 08:01

Nah wasn't hormone driven this time (usually is!). Got some bad news about the bottom of the chain in my house move and my go to reaction to stress is always sugar. Terrible behaviour, but at least I recognise the pattern! 😆🙈

PollyPelargonium52 · 14/06/2017 08:24

What about buying a low calorie chocolate drink that is a great alternative Herbie?

Not pleased with my scales this morning at all very disheartening. I was out yesterday and had to eat two shop bought sandwiches it wasn't practical to do anything else. :(

Hope I start aqua classes soon for as long as my 3 weekly periods stop which touch wood they appear to have done but who knows at my age anything can happen.....

PaintingOwls · 14/06/2017 09:24

Welp, after hitting a milestone of 64kg I am now back up to 65kg Sad

I am so frustrated with this gain, the dodgy ankle and everything in general.

Sorry to hear that so many of us are suffering together!

SleepFreeZone · 14/06/2017 09:24

Arghive actually put on a pound this morning!! Not good. I'm not sure whether baby hormones might be playing a part here as I'm not doing anything different bar being newly pregnant.

I am going to have a very careful day and see where I am in the morning. I don't really want to start restricting too much as it doesn't seem right.

Bumblebzz · 14/06/2017 09:27

I'm very skeptical about the scales in general.
I've not lost much on the scales, and it fluctuates massively too, but I tried on some dresses yesterday and have dropped a dress size.
I'm doing a lot exercise and I've probably gained muscle mass which would affect the scales.

PollyPelargonium52 · 14/06/2017 09:34

Good point Bumble good for you.

theredjellybean · 14/06/2017 11:03

sorry to see everyone a bit down today....i have not run for 4 days...too tired, too much on etc...but been eating not much either. scales today still saying 70.6 so happy as had pizza last night..but that is all i ate all day.
a whole 10 days no alcohol is definitely helping too.

Herbie well recognised with that pattern, find a different go to stress reliever....

Polly , i am 50 and have allsorts of carry on with my menopause which started when i was 43 ....but mostly hardly any periods as i have a mireena coil thank goodness. Sympathy though as it can be all over the place

theredjellybean · 14/06/2017 11:06

one problem i am having which you guys might be able to help with is....i am not sleeping well...used to collapsing into bed at about 9 pm , after 2-3 glasses of wine and pretty much falling asleep/passing out .
Now with no wine I am still awake at 11;30...and i wake up at 4:30 to 5 ...usually , so feeling increasingly tired.

I have had a long history of sleep problems and dont want to fall back into this pattern

PollyPelargonium52 · 14/06/2017 12:02

I know just the thing redjellybean! Get hold of vitamin B3 and take 200 mg or 300 mg at bedtime half hour before sleeping it has improved my sleep quality and sleep disturbances no end. I was getting old lady sleeping interruptions every flippin' night. Online it says it is safe to take up to 500 mg daily I bought the B3 at Holland & Barrett it does state on the bottle to not take more than 1 tablet i.e. 100 mg but according to online it is quite safe. Just research online if you have existing medical issues so it doesn't work against those. For example gallbladder. Luckily I am ok to use it and it has helped things turn around no more waking up at 3 am and can't get back to sleep!
