I think the general agreement was that we wouldn't weigh this week, but I thought we ought to start a new thread anyway.

So here it is

justamum - sorry there wasn't anybody around. Hope you got through OK, and can manage for the next few days without the ADs.

The health reasons are so compelling, aren't they. I'm achey and stiff, and don't bend very well, and I'm sure that losing weight will give me increased mobility as well as more energy. I think it's good to have a goal to aim for. I do remember SueJonez mentioning something her doctor had said, that a good aim would be 2 lb a month (ie, half a pound a week), so as long as it's realistic, and we all realise that there will be ups and downs, as long as the general overall trend is downwards, that will be great. 52lb in a year would be fab, wouldn't it .

WWB - justamum's right - you do hold this thread together. Even during times when you and Sue aren't able to post very much, I still think of you two as the guiding powers behind it.

Dottydotthehalls · 31/12/2006 09:54

Hi justamum - sorry I wasn't around last night - had gone to bed at 9pm - I've got the opposite of insomnia at the moment - feel like I could sleep forever and it still wouldn't be enough...

Dp and I have always tried to be completely open and honest about our relationship - I suppose more so since we've had children, because we don't want them to be embarrassed or ashamed of their family. But I can't control what dp's Mum tells people!

Yes, 52lbs in a year would be good! I'll settle for 28lbs actually!!! My poor old jeans are starting to feel tighter - and I've thrown all my bigger clothes away so I'll just have to get on and start being good. I'm actually looking forward to this Thursday when I get weighed - however much I've put on, it'll be a new start from the minute I get weighed.

WigWamBam · 31/12/2006 10:47

Justamum - you must get some more ads, and you must get them quickly. It can do funny things to you if you stop taking ads abruptly. If you still have your last packet, you should be able to get a small supply from the pharmacist - from memory I think it's a week's supply you can get, but you need to take the old packet with you.

You're right about the health problems - they should be such compelling reasons to keep us motivated, shouldn't they. Apart from my knees and back and all the other things that ache and creak it's my dd I keep thinking about - I want to stay healthy for her sake. In fact it's more than that ... I want to stay alive for her sake.

52lb in a year would be superb ... and it's achievable, a pound at a time. Or at least it should be.

Hello

Just wondering if it's ok to join in this thread?
Am getting married in April and been heavier than i want to be for ages.
Joined Scottish Slimmers and have lost 1 and a half stones(but prob put a stone back on over xmas).
Can't seem to get myself motivated again and feeling crap in case i don't lose anymore.
Dreading the weigh in on Thursday but will force myself to go.
Ate loads of chocs last night and we had an Indian takeaway instead of my chicken salad i planned to have.So today i feel bloated and ill.Why can i not stop being greedy? and at myself.

WigWamBam · 31/12/2006 13:34

You're more than welcome to join in, Agalch. We do have a few semi-rules though - one of which is that we don't call ourselves names or beat ourselves up about our size, so enough talk of greedy

Most of us have a very long way to go in terms of losing weight, and we started the thread because of that, although it's more about attitude to weight and food than about being very large. This is probably as good a time as any to wheel out the BigMoFos Creed again; I think we could all do with a bit of a reminder!

The BigMoFos are about attitude as much as anything: some of us were cheesed off with 7 stone people posting about being bloaters, and whingeing because they needed to lose 4lb and how hard it was. We just wanted a place where people understood how large people feel, and where we could feel supported in a way that those 7 stone people couldn't manage to support us.

We do a weigh-in on a Wednesday, but not all of us weigh in. Some just follow the thread for support, whichever you would feel more comfortable doing. It's all pretty free and easy but it seems to work. Email is [email protected] if you want to join the weigh-in, otherwise just hop along for the ride.

Our rules: No beating yourself up (we will do that for you if necessary). Each week is a new week and you leave last week?s problems behind. No pedantic grammar corrections (unless what you typed really doesn?t make sense) we are quite smart and will work out what you mean.

Thanks WWB

ok promise no name calling

Going by Scottish Slimmers i have 4st or so to lose but i'm not so fussed about losing exactly what they tell me to iykwim. If i can lose half of that i would be pleased tbh.

I know what you mean about skinnies moaning about losing weight. My sil is a skinny minnie skelf and it bugs me no end when she moans about her ever so slightly rounded tummy.Grrrrr

I get weighed on a Thursday so could email you Thursday nights if thats ok?

flutterbee · 31/12/2006 13:51

JackieNo - I apologise for giving DottDot all the credit for your rather marvellous idea

DottyDot - I'm sure you will have a marvellous idea for me at some point in the New Year

WWB - Total bummer for you with the scales, however it does not change the fact that you have lost weight and a damn decent amount. What would the new scales have said if you hadn't lost that weight? Do not let this throw you off track.

I hope all of you have a fantastic New Years eve, I will mainly be eating this evening (yes I am aware that the stuffing as much in as possible before the diet starts mentality won't help) and I may even have a little tipple, which is actually very unlike me. xx

Dottydotthehalls · 31/12/2006 17:36

flutterbee - I'll try my best!

Agalch - I go to WW on a Thursday, so we can feel nervous together! I post my weigh in result a week behind, so when I go on Thursday, it gets fed into the following Wednesday's results (if you see what I mean?!).

I think I confused myself there..! Just been to MIL's house and seem to have put another 2lbs on in the last 2 days - so that's 4lbs overall over Christmas (oops). Will wait and see what it totals on Thursday.

JackieNo · 01/01/2007 00:25

Happy New Year everyone - here's to a successful one for all of us.

Dottydotthehalls · 01/01/2007 09:25

Happy new year everyone - in the spirit of new year, new start, I'm off for a swim in 10 minutes - without the kids!! Won't last, but I might get through Jan. 1st with my halo in tact!

WigWamBam · 01/01/2007 14:20

Happy New Year - and here's to a good one for us all

Has that halo slipped yet, Dotty, or would you like a hand polishing it?

OP posts:
babysmurf · 01/01/2007 14:25

Hi, Can I join you too?

A little bit about me - I had lost 2st8lbs between August and the middle of December, leaving me a mere 1lb heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight of 17st and believing that I was right on track for my goal of being at my pregnancy weight (or below) on January 1st. Sadly christmas had other ideas about this, so I have started the new year half a stone heavier than I was before falling pregnant, but happily now in size 18 jeans and still 2st2lbs lighter than I was when I realised that breastfeeding was not making me lose weight after dd was born!

According to those BMI charts I now have 6.5 stone to lose to reach my goal weight of 11st which would put me in the middle of the healthy segment. However I would be happy to be a size 14/16, and I think that given my frame that would be a good size for me.

My current goals for this year are:

  1. To be 17st or below on 1st February
  2. To be 15st or below on DD's 1st birthday, 16th May
Dottydotthehalls · 01/01/2007 14:45

Hi Babysmurf - sounds like you've been doing really well so far - congratulations on your weight loss! You're very welcome here - WWB will be along soon and will hopefully post the BigMoFo's creed..!

My halo slipped about 20 minutes after I got back from swimming! Did 20 lengths (very proud emoticon!) but then we had people round for lunch and waaaaay too many chocolates got eaten... oops. Never mind - am easing myself into healthy eating/living!

WigWamBam · 01/01/2007 14:52

You want the MoFos creed? You got it ...

Most of us have a very long way to go in terms of losing weight, and we started the thread because of that, although it's more about attitude to weight and food than about being very large. The BigMoFos are about attitude as much as anything: some of us were cheesed off with 7 stone people posting about being bloaters, and whingeing because they needed to lose 4lb and how hard it was. Good to see you, babysmurf

I did wonder where your halo would end up and how long it would take to get it there, Dotty Gently does it though ...

Are we back to weigh-ins this week, do you think? And as we've got a couple of people doing slimming classes on a Thursday, should be change our weighing day to Thursday? What do we think?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 01/01/2007 15:08

Welcome Babysmurf.

Well done Dottydot - that's still fab to have done any exercise at all on NY Day, chocolates notwithstanding. Got to get back to it gradually, I think (batch of flapjacks in the oven as I speak - but they're practically health food, aren't they?).

I think we are back to weighing ourselves this week, WWB - and I don't have any objection to changing to a Thursday, if that's easier for people.

junkinmytrunk · 01/01/2007 16:16

Hi, can I join as well?
Been trying to lose weight for yrs, tried everything really. I manage to lose a stone and then I alwayss end up reverting to my old ways....choc, crisps, cake etc

Going to try just cutting out junk and snacking and see what effect that has. only problem is that quite often I snack without really realising it til after the deed iykwim.

Well need to lose about 3st!!!
But going to try hard not to weigh myself but just go by how my clothes fit or I'm on the scales every hour!.

Looking forward to the week ahead now

coppertop · 01/01/2007 16:31

A Thursday weigh-in would be fine by me. I often forget to weigh myself until then anyway.

I've fallen off the wagon again over Christmas but have a new goal to aim for.

Welcome to the new MoFo's.

Dottydotthehalls · 01/01/2007 17:12

Fab - I'll be able to post at about 8pm on a Thursday if that's OK?! Caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror at my Mum's and I look a lot bigger than I did a couple of weeks ago... possibly mainly because I've stopped exercising, but also at least a few lbs of chocolate...

Apologies in advance for obsessing about lbs, food, eating, etc after Thursday.

Radley · 01/01/2007 17:32

Hi all,

Can I join in please? I have 9 stone 9lbs to lose to get to my target.

I am doing weightwatchers and have 3 stone to lose to get to my 10% target.

Dottydotthehalls · 01/01/2007 17:37

Hello!! Nice to have new people (says she, feeling like an old hand..! ). New year, new people on the thread - more people for me to witter on to..!

JackieNo · 01/01/2007 17:54

Hi and welcome, junkinmytrunk and Radley.

WigWamBam · 01/01/2007 18:05

Lovely to see some new faces around CT, I very often forget to weigh myself on Wednesdays and do it on Thursday instead ... which probably means I'll be weighing on Friday most weeks now

So, a change to Thursdays it is then ... starting weights and post-Christmas horrors to me on [email protected] on Thursday. If any of the new recruits don't want to weigh in that's fine as well, just come along for the ride - there's plenty of support here, even if you're not doing the weigh-in. And I promise that if you do join in the weigh-in, your weight is between you, me, and the fence post. We do a list of losses (and gains, but we'll brush that swiftly under the carpet) but not of what everyone actually weighs.

OP posts:
peegeeweegee · 01/01/2007 18:28

Hello, can I join in again please? I did join in the autumn but due to lack of motivation, a comeback of depression (luckily mild) gave up and kept eating.

Now, New Year New Start - so would love to get this eating of mine under control.

What day are we weighing? Is it Wednesday morning?

I currently weigh just over 22stone (but am 6ft1 tall in my defense and would love to get down to 18st.

So, my goal is 4st.

I know I need to lose more than that - pre-children I looked at my best at 15st, but I think I will start with a somewhat more realistic goal... (mind you even 2st would be brilliant...)

flutterbee · 01/01/2007 18:38

WWB if you have all the details could you please e-mail me with my latest weight details as I haven't weighed in for a good few weeks. I think I was around 21st 7lb but could be wrong, feel free to post it on here if it's easier.

Peegeeweegee -- Don't worry about being 22st, after all the food I have eaten in the last month I am expecting to be a good few lb over 22st and I'm only 5"6"

Thursday weigh in is fine for me, although I suspect I won't be weighing in till next week (got to get rid of all the left over food we have first).

I'm looking at buying a strider machine from Argos, does anyone have one and are they any good?

Welcome all new people

littlemistletoesensible · 01/01/2007 18:53

Hi All,

Welcome to all the new MoFos and a Happy New Year to you all!

I think I'm back where I started - Again! " years ago I got down to 11 stone but I've been over 13 stone for ages now (At least over the last two Christmas's. I lose the weight so I'm just above 13 stone (and amazingly before Christmas I was just BELOW 13 stone!) but it always seems to creep back on

Sigh .

Ok time to pick myself up and remind myself that I 'Have' got below 13 stone very recently and I CAN do it again! So I'll weigh myself on Thursday then set myself a short term goal of being under 13 stone by the end of Jan!

Heres to a happy and successful New Year for all of us!
