I have to do something.

I'm ashamed that I've allowed myself to get so huge. I've been in denial for years, avoided full length mirrors for years judging new clothes on how others say they look. I

I've downloaded MFP, brought a jawbone up2 tracker, got a pair of weight watchers scales, a pack of slim sip and am determined.

I've tried weight watchers, slimming world, Cambridge diet, orlistat, and a dietician. The next step for me is surgery, which I don't want.

I started today, anyone like to share my journey?

Hi everyone, I am 5'6 and 19 stone.

I have always struggled with my weight.
I have never been This heavy BlushBlush.
I can't get myself motivated.
I have done all the slimming clubs but just can't get it together this time.
I know how out of hand things are I know my health is suffering I know
I am pathetic.
I just don't know how to get motivated Sad

frumpet · 02/03/2016 07:56

You don't sound pathetic Maverick , well if you are then the rest of us must be too and I might be many things , but pathetic is not one of them .

Motivation is difficult if you are looking at it from a how do I become a completely different person perspective , which from the sounds of it you are . What is wrong with still being the lovely amazing you , but just a bit better ?

frumpet · 02/03/2016 08:42

Oh and being fat doesn't make you a bad person , taking up kitten kicking as a hobby , that would make you a bad person Wink

stumblymonkey · 02/03/2016 09:52

Well...1lb off at SW. Serves me right for having a three course meal out last week! Still...5.5lbs in two weeks...hoping for my half stone next week.

Motivation can be very hard to find IMO....I have phases where I have it and phases where I don't have it.

When I don't have it I've tried everything I can think of...books, courses, hypnotherapy, different plans and groups...to find it to no avail. So don't beat yourself up...somehow motivation comes in its own sweet time and in my experience there's nothing you can do to hurry it along.

In the meantime you can research all the different programmes including the ones you've done before and decide which will be best for you when the motivation comes?

Helloooo everyone,

so quick intro - i have lost 10kg (and maybe gained 1) in the last 2 months. using MFP and a calorie limit of 1500 a day - no exercise at all (i have a number of health issues that severely limit my mobility atm.

last month i have had very little motivation.... but now i have found it!!!

I am off to Butlins in 6 months - so if i go back to my aim of 1kg per week..... so 26kg.......

I'm getting a little excited!

Maverick - agree with Stumbly, motivation is incredibly difficult (i was great through Jan, but lost it completely in Feb) but it sounds like you have reached the very end of your rope, so now is the time to do something :-)

We are all here to help and in the same boat..... so a couple of questions

  1. why do you want you lose weight??
  2. what are you going to do about it??

when i was "on the ball" i had more energy, i was sleeping better - i had a "skip in my step" and a real positive effect on my mental health.... i am looking forward to getting back there again :-)

Maverick66 · 02/03/2016 11:43

Thank you stumble and frumpet I think my problem is I concentrate too much on how much I've to loose rather than taking it 1lb and one day at a time** Sad

Maverick66 · 02/03/2016 11:49

*Crazy duchess
*
I want to loose weight so I am healthier have more energy .
I want to shop for nice clothes.
I have 3 weddings coming up in the next 12 months and the thought of clothes shopping fills me with dread.
I turn 50 this year and I want to get back to a size 18 .I'm now a tight 22 Sad

stumblymonkey · 02/03/2016 12:49

I know what you mean Maverick....I've learnt only to focus on the next stone bracket.

So at the moment I'm 17st 9lbs and I'm just focused on being something that starts with 16st!

I try not to think too much about anything past that or it feels overwhelming and unachievable. Once I get down to 16st 13lbs then I'll think about getting down to 15st something.

It's like the old saying "How do you eat an elephant? One piece at a time."

CrazyDuchess · 02/03/2016 13:04

agreed - breaking it down makes it so much more "achievable"

so just a pound a week?? would you join slimming world or use an app like MFP??

its never too late to get started, and once your brain is engaged..... everything will fall into place.

this is the longest i have ever stuck to any weight loss plan, and i really think its because of regular posting with like minded people that helps keep me motivated :)

HTH xx

Maverick66 · 02/03/2016 14:57

Thanks ladies. I need to join a slimming group. I just keep talking myself out of it. Sad

weaselwords · 03/03/2016 05:05

I have stress eaten so much this week that I've covered my motivation with yet another layer of fat. Didn't help and just made me more stressed.

I'm better when organised and plan my meals ahead, so am drawing a line under it and back to looking after myself again today.

Sending positivity to everyone else who is struggling.

stumblymonkey · 03/03/2016 06:41

Definitely meal planning is key for me!

Without it I go a bit crazy where food is concerned....it's the only way I can make sensible choices is to make them in advance of needing to eat.

If I wait until I'm hungry to think about what I want my little reptilian part of my brain says FAT! SUGAR! CARBS! YAY!

Msqueen33 · 04/03/2016 22:16

I've gotten huge. I can't even get on the scales anymore. In my less than a year I've put on about three stone. I frankly feel revolting and disgusting as much for my health and how uncomfortable I feel. I'm also ashamed I've let myself get this big.

stumblymonkey · 05/03/2016 12:25

Msqueen...I know how you feel but it's in our power to change it.

Are you looking into doing any kind of plan?

I've tried them all and am definitely finding Slimming World the best yet...sustainable, filling and not too difficult to adjust to.

stumblymonkey · 05/03/2016 12:27

How is everyone else doing this week?

I fell off plan last night after two days of working long hours I got home and felt tired, hungry and emotional and refused to cook so ended up having chicken Katsu curry ready meal from M&S.

Downside: Not on plan and its one of the higher calorie choices

Upside: A month ago I would have ordered a takeaway or binged on crap.

LemonadeLady · 06/03/2016 00:13

Hey ladies- can I join in? I have been confronted by my weight gain this year when I was weighed in hospital as a routine check up. Was so horrified to find that I have at least 3 stone to loose... and have put on nearly 2 stone in the last year after stopping breastfeeding & starting a stressful job again. I have terrible eating habits. It's all very emotionally driven and I eat a lot - not that unhealthy, just too much.
l hardly know where to start.

Any advice on motivation gratefully received.

stumblymonkey · 06/03/2016 08:52

Welcome Lemonade!

I read a book called 'Never Diet Again' by Sharmy and Julius I think a couple of years ago and that had some good psychological tips in it for keeping the motivation up.

For me meal planning and weighing is key. If I don't have a 'plan' I am quite overtaken by the urge to eat the naughtiest thing!

One thing I'm telling myself this time too is that actually it doesn't really matter which diet/regime/healthy eating thing I adopt the key is consistency. It's sticking at it day in, day out and getting straight back to the plan if I trip up with one meal.

Have you decided what steps you want to take to loose weight yet?

LemonadeLady · 06/03/2016 15:57

Thanks stumblymonkey - I think I am exactly the same weight a you are / were a few posts ago.

Yep, totally agree about the planning. My husband is going to help with planning the meals for the week. I'm going to take lunch to work too or just get a salad. I have been conforming myself with snacks throughout the day...😐 stress is a big factor so going to try to relax but also do some exercise - perhaps just a little jog 3 times a week as I don't have much time for myself.

I have to keep thinking about what is going into my mouth mainly- !!!

How about you?

CrazyDuchess · 06/03/2016 16:49

Helloooo- well last week was again totally and officially off plan - it's my birthday today as well as mothers day and pretty much has been non stop partying!

Next week is a new week!

Welcome all new joiners:))

LemonadeLady · 06/03/2016 18:51

*comforting - doh

LemonadeLady · 06/03/2016 22:49

Oooh just found out about the body coach - 'lean in 15' - lots of easy & nice looking recipes on Insta - but there is also a book. Has anyone tried it?

CrazyDuchess · 08/03/2016 09:15

Nope but def will have a look :)

1.3kg down this week - slowly starting to undo all the damage I inflicted on myself the last few weeks.

Have a couple of days leave from work so really chilling out, and dusting off the cross trainer that had turned into the kittens play toy!!

Roll on next week :)

LemonadeLady · 08/03/2016 21:30

Ah well done crazyduchess. I haven't weighed yet. Lean in 15 guy says don't weigh but photograph yourself once a month... !😳

stumblymonkey · 08/03/2016 21:42

Well one more pound down at Slimming World which is a bloody miracle as I lost the plot and binged the last two days. Back on plan now so half a stone gone and focusing on the remaining seven pounds to my stone award!
