I have to do something.

I'm ashamed that I've allowed myself to get so huge. I've been in denial for years, avoided full length mirrors for years judging new clothes on how others say they look. I

I've downloaded MFP, brought a jawbone up2 tracker, got a pair of weight watchers scales, a pack of slim sip and am determined.

I've tried weight watchers, slimming world, Cambridge diet, orlistat, and a dietician. The next step for me is surgery, which I don't want.

I started today, anyone like to share my journey?

I've just discovered that the BBC goodfood website does a shopping list from their recipes, so that should be pretty good going forward, especially trying some of their lower calorie recipes.

Still not decided exactly how i'm going to do this but meal planning is one of our 'family resolutions' for 2015 so this should help hopefully.

susurration · 07/01/2016 18:37

Oh and I've just bought myself a spiralizer too.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/01/2016 18:52

I got given a spiraliser for Christmas, now just need to find some recipes. also I need to try to make cauliflower rice more, it is delicious. I have yet to sign up for WW will do that this weekend.

Well, I've (just about) made it through my second fasting day at 524 calories. Went a little bit over for yesterday's non-fasting day, was somewhere around 2100, but all in all, I'm happy to have the toughest two days of my first week done. Already looking forward to breakfast tomorrow!!

susseration thanks for the encouragement :)

biscuit you're through your second fasting day this week too, right? How is it going for you? Do you mind if I ask, are you reducing your calories on non-fast days as well, or aiming for the 2000 mark?

Wishing you all motivation and momentum in these early days!

Brokenbiscuit · 08/01/2016 23:20

Hi NewYear, yes, I have been reducing calorie intake on other days so far, though I'm planning to relax a bit more over the weekend. Probably averaging around 1500-1600 on NFDs, according to MFP.

My main priority on NFDs has been to eat healthily and avoid too much junk, and I think that has naturally brought down the calorie count. Still allowing myself the odd treat here and there, but I'm making my lunch for work now - used to buy it and eat loads of crap. I think I'm just more aware of what I'm putting in my mouth. (Having to record it all on MFP probably helps!)

I'm also doing dry January, so the lack of wine is probably helping to keep the calorie count down.

Glad that your second fast went ok, hope you're finding it do-able so far. I really like the fact that it's only one day at a time, and that I am allowed to eat normally at the weekends.

Good luck over the weekend everyone! I'm going to eat what I want, within reason, but I am going to pack in some exercise!!

TheCrazyDuchess · 09/01/2016 20:10

Helloooo,

Carn I join in?? At nearly 124kg (19.5st) I an just the heaviest in have ever been and it is really starting to affect my physical and mental health.

So I am using MFP (been solid for 4 days and dropped 3kg already) slowly increasing my exercise on the cross trainer and being more active around the house.

I have no real aim at the moment. Before I used to think so far in the future then find myself getting discouraged then majorly falling off the wagon.

I also recognise (after the most serious depressive episode in my life) that I really have to take some control and stor pretending that everything was happening to me as opposed to me actually being able to make choices (nearly always bad one)

So for now l, no alcohol, counting my calories, and exercising everyday.

Good luck everyone xxx

Hi, I would like to join you.

I lost over five stone with running and healthier diet. I have been ill over the last 18 months and put 3 stone back on :(

I would like to lose 5 stone in total !

I am starting to do short walks and improving my food intake.

MrsPnut · 09/01/2016 20:20

There is a mumsnet losers 2016 Facebook group going which started from a thread for people with a large amount of weight to shift.
It's a secret group so if I find the thread, you can ask for it to be made visible for you to join.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/01/2016 20:30

I posted on there earlier but its gone very quiet

Hi Everyone, and welcome Duchess and Babies :) Are you still around, OP ?

How is everyone getting on? I have finished my first week of 5:2 as of today, kept the calories at around 2000 on non-fast days and 500 on fast days, so averaged around 1600 per day across the week. Weighed myself this morning, and I'm 3lb down from last week! I'm delighted because I haven't yet worked exercise in (the plan is to use the cross trainer on non-fast days to push the net calories closer to 1500), so didn't expect much of a difference yet. Great motivation for a fasting Monday!

Brokenbiscuit I hope you enjoyed relaxing the rules a bit for the weekend.. Are you fasting today too? What do you tend to eat on a fast day? For me today, it's been a 150 kcal pot of porridge, at around 12 noon, and it will be an M&S Count on Us dinner (cheese ravioli, 382kcal). So I'll finish the day at 532. I'll hold off on dinner as late as I can, as I find the evening when dd is asleep and dh is at work to be the toughest time to resist having something nice with my cup of tea. Already looking forward to tomorrow!

Brokenbiscuit · 11/01/2016 16:08

Hello NewYear, good to hear that you're sticking at it! I am indeed fasting again today and struggling a bit as I'm working from home - there are so many temptations! So far, I've had an oatcake with a bit of cottage cheese and some grapes, eaten around an hour ago. Planning a sort of hot vegetable salad later with yet more cottage cheese and some yummy sweet potato! I am really hungry though!

It was lovely to relax the rules a bit over the weekend, but I was still mindful of what I ate, thanks to logging it on MFP, so didn't go too far overboard. :)

Weighed myself this morning and have lost 6lb! I know most of it was probably retained water but it feels good anyway! How about you? Have you ventured near the scales yet?

Hope everyone else is doing well too! :)

TheCrazyDuchess · 11/01/2016 16:10

Doing really well here. I am trying just to focus day-to-day and making a real effort to eat better and under my calorie count and incorporating more exercise every day.

I feel great to be honest so looking forward to see how much better i feel if I keep going.

Dry Jan is surprisingly so much easier than I thought. Just not tempted in the slightest for a drink (although that may change once I reach the end of the week!)

I weigh in daily and since the first of Jan I am down 4kg but obviously a lot of that was post Xmas bloat!

Hope everyone else is going okay xx

NewYearsAoibhe · 11/01/2016 16:11

Wow, 6lb! Well done, brokenbiscuit! That's nearly half a stone!

I am down 3lb from last Monday morning, which I'm delighted with, particularly because I haven't incorporated exercise yet and I intend to.

Well done us :)

NewYearsAoibhe · 11/01/2016 16:13

Is 4kg about 9lb, Duchess? That's brilliant!

QueenofallIsee · 11/01/2016 16:15

Hi, can I join you guys? I am 5"7 and was 15 stone 2 last week. This week I am 14 st 13. I am eating 1200 calories a day and monitoring via MFP, have just ordered myself a fitbit! Carbs are my enemy as is laziness so I have joined my local gym with a friend and am aiming to swim once a week as well. My aim is to be 10 stone or less by year end, as I am healthy at that weight and comfortably a size 10.

Doodlekitty · 11/01/2016 16:17

I was 19st 2lb 4 months ago. I lost 2 stone 3lb but thenot put 7lb on over Christmas. My scales currently show me at 16st 10 lb but I won't know for certain until weigh in on Thursday. I think I'll be happywith another 6st loss

TheCrazyDuchess · 11/01/2016 16:23

Yeah I am pretty chuffed- but I am huge so I know it will fall off quite quickly at the beginning!

I just need to focus a day at a time so as not to get discouraged.

Brokenbiscuit · 11/01/2016 16:48

Wow, well done NewYear, Duchess and Queen! We are all moving in the right direction!

Duchess, I'm doing dry January as well. I have never been a big drinker anyway, but I had started to drink much more regularly towards the end of last year. I haven't really missed it tbh, except for a momentary yearning on Friday night! It's the sugar that I find harder to pass on!

NewYear, I haven't started exercising "properly" yet, but am building up to it slowly! I've been walking more, playing on the wii dance and played table tennis with dd at the weekend. Nothing that strenuous though the wii dance has nearly wiped me out at times! Just trying to move more, really.

In a couple of weeks when I've worked up the courage I'm going to try the 30 day shred! :)

Brokenbiscuit · 11/01/2016 16:51

Wow doodle, sounds like you have lost a lot already. Can I ask how long it took you to lose that 2st before Christmas?

Imnotaslimjim · 11/01/2016 18:49

I haven't been back since last week, letting college work get in the way. It's not getting in the way of my weight loss though, 9lb off in my first week I'm chuffed to bits

Doodlekitty · 11/01/2016 18:55

It took me 3 months to lose 2 stone but I'm cutting myself a lot of slack as I'm breastfeeding and therefore require chocolate.
I'm doing slimming world and getting on quite well. I just want the weight gone

HackAttack · 11/01/2016 19:00

I'm doing slimming world and I've about three stone to lose. It was seven, so quite a big of progress really :)
