Cambridge Weight Plan - anyone on it or about to start it and want to support each other?

I have my first appointment with my consultant booked for three weeks time. I've done lots of research and prepping and just wondered if anyone else was in the same position? I could do with the support! Smile

well done mckiwi - I absolutely agree - if you cheat - even a little but, a mouthful here, a nibble there then the loss (if any) is so disappointing that you might as well do SW or WW as this is too tough for 1-2lb loss.....but when you get on average 4lb a week by sticking to it 100% it really is amazing feeling - especially when you have a lot to loose - get to your goal in half the time.

Wecouldbeheroes - you have to bite the bullet and decide that you are not drinking for 12 weeks - no way around it, I am afraid. "Deferred gratification" is the name of the game - ie if I say no to booze, choc, etc today I can be wearing shorts ;) in August etc.

I am doing the sole source+ which allows me 80g of veg a day which I add to my spag bol or curry - which really bulks it up and is healthy and then I choose to have 2 large soft boiled eggs for breakfast and this powers me thru. I attempted cambridge a couple of years ago but was just on the sole source and threw in the towel after 5 weeks - it was just too tough for me - this time around the extra veg and protein make such a difference and I ahve actually lost more each week even though technically I have added 200 cals. I think there must be a maximum that your body can loose in a week so there is no point going to 400 cal a day if you are loosing the max at 600ish.

WeCouldBeHeroes · 23/05/2016 22:03

Well done McKiwi!

Thanks Popple, wise words. I think I will just have to bit the bullet. My consultant did funnily enough recommended sole source plus for the same reasons you said. She said to me to try sole source, but use ss+ as a 'get out of jail card' if the going gets tough, and I'll probably lose just the same!

Delayed gratification will be a useful new skill to master!

Bit disappointed with me weigh in this morning - only 2lb down (week 4, 18lb in total to date) and I had been 95% perfect - was the same loss as week before when I went way off piste .... Maybe that excursion has caught up with me....? Tho I do remember when I did SW in the past and LL that I had plateaus every 4 weeks - also need to factor that in and period due so trying hard not to be knocked back .... Eyes on the Prize ....

mckiwi07 · 24/05/2016 20:33

18lb in 4 weeks is excellent! I only lost 1lb in week 4 and 2lb in week 5 then 4lb in week 6. That was me sticking 100% to plan. My consultant says you need to look at average weight loss over a longer period and try not to get disheartened if you have a week when you lose less. Stick at it and it will work

Poppledopple · 24/05/2016 21:11

Thx mckiwi - I know you are right......your pattern seems similar to mine....and if so I need to look forward to a better loss next week. Really impressed that you shifted 4lb in week 6. I think I was worrying that two weeks on the trot of just 2lb loss means that the rate of loss was tapering off....but I know from doing other diets it is as you say the long game.

mckiwi07 · 27/05/2016 11:54

Another 4lb off today and got my 2stone award Grin

Poppledopple · 27/05/2016 13:11

Well done you !!! That is a really incredible achievement. I hope that things kick back in for me and that I am following closely behind!

mckiwi07 · 27/05/2016 13:57

Thank you. You can do it popple!!

Poppledopple · 28/05/2016 10:59

Just tried on some tops that I couldn't button up a few weeks ago and they are hanging off me - so pleased -
Not hung to get too disappointed about the numbers on the scales now. All about inches.....

mckiwi07 · 28/05/2016 18:00

Fantastic! Clothes fitting again is always great motivation

Poppledopple · 02/06/2016 14:05

Weighted in this morning - 4lb down - and I had a patchy bank holiday weekend - lapsed and had few glasses of wine - which made me feel so bad after abstinence for past 5 weeks.....so 22lb off in 5 weeks! Next milestones are getting out of "obese" and into "overweight" BMI and then being in the 11's!!!

mckiwi07 · 03/06/2016 14:38

That's amazing popple!!! Well done. I had a weigh in this morning and only lost 1lb this week despite being 100% on plan. I'm trying not to feel too deflated and keep my motivation up for the next few weeks

Poppledopple · 03/06/2016 15:39

That's great McK - focus on the total loss and maybe average loss over 2/3 week periods is a better indicator - rather than week to week which for both of us is a bit roller coaster of emotions - ie small loss despite being 100% on plan and then much bigger loss next week!!

Another 3lb off this week. Total of 2stone 4 in 10 weeks. I had set myself target of 3 stone off before my holiday but that's not going to happen as I only have 10 days left on plan before I'm stopping (a week before my hol to get my body readjusted to food). Still I should get to 2.5 stones off which is still good. My bmi is now 28 which I'm delighted with.
How is everyone else getting on?

countingkids123 · 10/06/2016 13:27

I've never tried Cambridge but thinking of doing it. Only thing is, I've got Glastonbury in 10 days time, followed by a week in Cornwall mid July and a week in France mid August. Glastonbury obviously will be alcohol heavy. But would I be able to get started afterwards? Cornwall is with my parents so don't know how I am going to get away with the food issue. But I would love to lose some weight before I go to France. I will feel miserable at the beach the size I am!

mckiwi07 · 10/06/2016 14:30

I really like Cambridge as it gives fast results and takes food out of life for a while which I think I have needed to break my bad habits. It is an all or nothing plan and from previous experience starting and stopping can be really hard emotionally and physically. It also completely limits socialising ime which would be really hard on hol. What about slimming world as that has a lot more flexibility and you could remain largely on plan while on hol? I know people that have had brilliant results with sw

countingkids123 · 10/06/2016 18:06

I used to get brilliant results with slimming world. I started it almost 6 years ago after DS1 was born. Then I got pregnant with twins and my weight has slowly crept up ever since. Been dedicate to slimming world since January and only lost 5lbs. I'm so despondent I can't see myself ever losing the weight.

Sounds as though Cambridge wouldn't work in the immediate future with the holidays coming up, especially Glastonbury and Cornwall. Could it work in France? That's just myself, DH and the kids that week, so don't need to socialise. Hopefully DH could keep me on track. It would just be eating out with the kids in the evening that would be tricky.

mckiwi07 · 10/06/2016 18:20

You could try Cambridge between Cornwall and France if you have 3-4 weeks? I lost a stone in my first 3 weeks and felt so much better for it. You would just need to be really focused to get back on plan after your hol. There are different steps in Cambridge plan and some of them allow 'real food' but I have only used the lower steps so don't know too much about them.
I was the same with slimming world, it was just so slow although I really like the philosophy behind it, lots of fresh and healthy food. I'm planning to use sw to maintain my loss after I finish with Cambridge.

countingkids123 · 10/06/2016 19:33

That's what I was thinking, of switching back to slimming world like you afterwards. I'd be worried about weight piling back on! I have 3 weeks on my return from Cornwall so it might work! I've been reading the thread and all these losses are really inspirational. A stone would just be amazing!
Going to find my local consultant and give them a call Smile

mckiwi07 · 10/06/2016 20:03

Good luck with whatever you decide

Poppledopple · 13/06/2016 20:22

Bugger .... Gone waaaaay off piste. Had some shocking news last week and triggered into comfort eating as a reward. Didn't do booze or too much junk food - tho which is a start - just ate out a few times. Getting back on the waggon today though - weigh in on Friday morning....so 4 days to rescue from a possible gain....aargh

Dollyemi · 14/06/2016 10:14

I'm in the same boat as you countingkids, so disappointed not to be losing weight consistent enough with Slimming World. What are the weight loss differences between step 1 and step 2? I've done Lighterlife before and lost weight successfully but I'm nervous about committing to 4 shakes a day again. I'm thinking of step 2 on Cambridge instead but not if the losses are 1/2-1 pound a week, might as well stick with slimming world.

mckiwi07 · 14/06/2016 18:10

Popple you can definitely claw things back in 4 days. Well done on not going way off track with lots of junk food.

Dolly I don't think there is much difference in weight losses between step 1 and 2, think you are expected to lose around 4lb a week on both. My consultant recommends people go on step 2 rather than step 1 as it is a lot easier to stick to as you are having some proper food.

mckiwi07 · 17/06/2016 11:26

3lbs off this week, total of 2stone7lbs. Bmi is now 27!! Am staying on plan until Wednesday then coming off plan for my holiday so hoping to loose 2 more lbs to take me into the 11's. Hope everyone else is getting on ok as it's very quiet on this thread.....
