SLIMMING WORLD - WE CAN DO IT - NEW THREAD

Sparkler1 · 10/09/2006 08:11

Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind but thought I'd take the opportunity of starting a new thread as the other one is huge!

So how is everyone getting on? Are you getting through the weekend okay without too many temptations?

I have had a very successful first two days back on the Slimming World Plan. It's surprising how much I remember about it and I haven't been to group for 6+ months. I arranged to go to group with Surfermum this time round. She definately inspired me to get back onto it. She has done so well and her weight loss is really noticeable - she looks great!
When the evening came to go to group I will say that, although I knew that I must lose weight, my motivation wasn't 100% there. Now I have got my shopping in and have started writing out my food diary I am really enjoying it. DH made himself a proper greasy fry up yesterday morning - the works! And I found the willpower to say no - to be honest the smell of the grease was enough to put me off anyway.
Found the new Mullerlight yogs yesterday - they have loads of new ones now don't they? I tried the sticky toffee pudding one - yum!

One night last week I ate about 5 of those little bags of maltesers. I thought, "I'll just have one, as a treat". Mmmmmmmmmmmm..............

They wouldn't fit in the advent calendar pockets, you see, so I had to eat them!!!

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 10/12/2006 22:21

ROFL That's the best excuse I've heard yet

D'ya know what.... those tubes of pringles I bought for the advent calender won't fit, so.....................

BethAndHerBrood · 10/12/2006 22:25

59 syns in a tube of pringles.

Just in case you didn't know!!!

And worth every single one, IMHO!!!!!!!

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 10/12/2006 22:29

I effin DID NOT know that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for telling me though!!!!!!!!!! Now I'll know what to avoid over xmas!!!! I'm really dreading it, as my dh is all into the "Ah feck it, it's xmas, enjoy yourself!" He loves a nice fancy tin of sweets & Biscuits etc... whilst most days I can avoid them & go in another room, once I have a couple glasses of wine I go off the rails!!!

lurcherlass · 11/12/2006 14:17

Your DH must be Irish (as mine is). He says "Feck it" a lot as well, but then he has only gone up one jeans size since he was 18!!!!

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 11/12/2006 16:11

Yes, Dh (and me!) are Irish! He has gained and lost and gained and lost over the years.. at the minute he's saying "Ah I want to enjoy xmas so will eat & drink what I want, but in the New Year I'll slim"

Rooicosta · 11/12/2006 20:30

I really don't think it's possible to diet (no matter what plan you are on) during the Christmas season. There are far to many temptations and everyone else is eating them and couldn't give a stuff about their weight so why should you?!!! That's my view anyway and I read something really good today...

"It's not the weight we put on between Christmas and the New Year that matters, it's what we put on between the New Year and Christmas!" How true?!

Xmas comes once a year and I would hate to think I missed out one of those years...life's too short and let's face it, there is only so much you can eat without feeling ill.

As much as I intend to be good....I also intend to be bad !

All those who agree... say Pudding! !!!

Mumbojumbo · 11/12/2006 22:51

Bgger, bgger, b*gger! 2lb gain last week. Don't really know why, apart from having ds1 and ds2 at home poorly last week and not being able to get to the gym at all. Feel really down about it , and frustrated. Better pick myself up and go for it this week.
Good luck everyone - hope you get on OK!

tiger8565 · 12/12/2006 10:13

hey mumbojumbo...get back on that wagon...it can be done, I gained last week for no reason, yet this week I think I am on for a big loss (and if not I have definitely gained a waist again)

don't lose heart for just one week, a friend of mine (nothing to do with SW) said it's all about the downwards trend, and this is not necessarily over a week period but a 2 week/monthly thing...

Look at that cool graph on the website and that should bring you back on track. No point kicking yourself you'll only go downhill from there, instead celebrate following the plan for another week, it will show next week ?

xx

sorry if that sounds like a loada rubbish, but makes sense to me

tiger8565 · 12/12/2006 10:22

"It's not the weight we put on between Christmas and the New Year that matters, it's what we put on between the New Year and Christmas!" I love that quote

I do believe it is possible to still lose weight over the hols without missing out though....

But this will be my first xmas following the plan so we shall see....

BigHotMamaClaus · 12/12/2006 16:07

Well 'feck' knows how on earth I managed to lose 1lb this week (total 8lbs)???? I havent stuck to the plan for a single day . Must aim to do a food diary this week to keep on track.

Agree about the asda chickpea dahl its sooo yummy with rice and I even chuck in some slimming world chippies to add to the fun and it feels like I'm being so naughty as it fills me up to me chin lol!

Well Dh bought 3 tins of choc for xmas and we have just started on the celebrations oh-oh! Got huge tin of heroes and quality street too.

Good luck everyone with your losses this week! And those who have put on just start a fresh tomorrow and think how good you will feel when you can bend to tie your shoelaces without getting outta breathe he!he!

Rooicosta · 12/12/2006 19:28

BHMC - Loving the name! You should be yelling your diet from the roof tops...you'd make a fortune! If you lose next week then I'm going for the Celebrations lol!

I also believe it's possible to lose weight over the hols without missing out. My last post kinda sounds like I'm gonna go hell for leather and eat everything in site! It won't be like that at all...everything in moderation. I just won't deprive myself anything by thinking of how many syns will be in it!

Chin up to those who've gained this week - I've yet to get weighed so who knows?! Remember that while ever you are doing the plan you will get there. Everyone has blips.

Good luck to all

supermumintraining · 12/12/2006 21:31

cried off my weigh in today. Feel bad for it, but knew it wouldnt be good as I have had 3 days off plan. unfortunately instead of being extra good to make up for it, I have been even worse. Have had white bread, and pizza please help, save me from .... well myself I suppose

lurcherlass · 12/12/2006 21:52

I agree completely with Tiger, I only weigh once a fortnight, as I find my weight is so unstable, I can fluctuate 3lbs in 24 hours and I'd be all de-motivated.
I don't have any scales at home, coz I know I would be on them two or three times a day and getting on my own nerves! At least weighing fortnightly it allows for the ups and downs. Like Tiger says, as long as the overall trend is down, try to ignore the little ups.
Mince pies are calling me this week, Budgens are selling them loose in a bakery bag and the pastry is like shortbread!! Can't find the syn value, but thats not stopping me ho ho ho...

Martha200 · 12/12/2006 23:21

Sigh... 3lbs on today. I know where it's come from but still
Never posted on here, but how I feel right now, want to say a small hello and hope you all are doing a darn sight better than I?

Martha200 · 12/12/2006 23:23

ps: turkey is the word

supermumintraining · 13/12/2006 07:11

welcome martha. We are all feeling a bit like you, so if you were looking for something uplifting, its not here, but if you are looking for comfort and understanding, its here in abundance.

Its Christmas nearly, we should be cheerful. We are missing out on the wonderful experiences, because we are so busy dragging ourselves down because of our weight!
Pre school Christmas nativity gave us a laugh this year.
Joseph "is there any room at the inn?"
innkeeper " no, anyway its a bungalow, not an inn"!!!!
anyone have any other stories to share?

tiger8565 · 13/12/2006 09:06

to all you out there who have gained this week, take heart, stick with it ...I gained last week, and went on to lose 3lbs this week

BethAndHerBrood · 13/12/2006 09:40

It's not my weigh in till tomorrow, but I know I will have gained this week. If it's not nailed down, I'm eating it!! I don't normally pig out in such a fashion, but I don't know what's come over me. I ate three packets of chocolate fingers in two days this week, and I still didn't stop. I think it's to do with DH doing the plan too. He is extreme and doesn't have syns, so no chocolate at all, or anything yummy and treaty, whereas I use my syns on a treat in the evening. But he nags me about it, "you'll lose it faster if you don't have that" "I thought WE were on a diet", while he's looking at me in that tone of voice!

He is conveniently forgetting that I've been doing it for two years, and untill the last three weeks he was bringing crisps and sweets and crap home all the time! He doesn't even want to get a tin of sweets for christmas day!

Bugger that, I'll buy my own!!!

tiger8565 · 13/12/2006 09:58

i know that look of disgust at eating the chocolate, hehe....but as long as you are happy, I'd go mad without the odd treat each day...

OMG just looked up the syn value for a sauce i used last night 24 syns :'( got half of it for lunch today... not good....

Martha200 · 13/12/2006 10:32

Thanks
Feeling a lot better today!
To Beth and her Brood: If it makes you feel better I actually started to lose more weight with syns than no syns and they are there to be used (no matter what anyone says about you will lose more if you don't use them!)
Like the nativity story. My 3.5 yr old has his preschool play tomorrow, he is a christmas pudding. Got to be the only time in your life you can be a pud and NOT be offended!
Looking fwd to stocking up the cuboards etc later of free food, bit low at the moment.
Have a good day.

RooicostaFortuneThisXmas · 13/12/2006 18:34

Hi Martha and welcome to the board ! These gals are the best!

To all of those whose gained, chin up. Nobody's perfect and it's the downwards trend over a period of time that counts. I'm sure I will have either gained or maintained this week as I've had loads of wine (stuck to the food side of things tho!)

This time of year is very hard and it's amazing how many people are finding sticking to the plan hard. Don't think you're alone.

BAHB - I totally agree with Martha about having your syns. That's what they are there for (& HE's). If you don't have them now, then you've nothing to cut down on later when the last few pounds are a struggle.

And you can't have Xmas day with no choccies lol!

BENDYB · 13/12/2006 22:04

just quickly saying hi, hope every1s doing ok, i lost a pound this wk!

lurcherlass i tried the bolognase beanfeast 2day, its lovely! Def be getting that again! Thanks 4 the cous cous ideas people! x

karenj1980 · 14/12/2006 08:38

Sorry haven't been on for a couple of days, my pc is broken!!!!

I won't be on too often until I get mine sorted.

I lost 2.5lb this week and that includes the week in France and a massive Xmas buffet lunch which I had everything, mince pies with cream, yule log, trifle, sausage rolls etc (you get the picture)!

So thats 32lbs so far now and the clothes are falling off - literally xx

well done everyone! x

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 14/12/2006 11:27
