Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

3.75 off. Am chuffed.

Hardest place ever for this WOE? Costa. Even Starbucks has plain yoghurt. In a costa this lunchtime and the best thing I could find to eat was half a bar of dark chocolate. Every other solitary thing made of white flour plus sugar. No salad at all.

Anybody got any tips if your meeting people in a costa? (other than eat before you go out for lunch! Grin)

Marking my place and will post weight tomorrow.

Decaffwithcream how about erm coffee with cream? I've had that in costa before and it's reasonably filling though not really a proper meal obviously

Didn't think to ask them for cream in an americano (have been making my decaffs with cream at home!). Will do that next time I'm stuck somewhere. This week has been an eye opener to how much our coffee shops are built around carbohydrate consumption and our cravings for them.

it's wonderful to read about everyone's success. Flowers to all.

I could not believe the scales this morning, 2.75lb down. Amazing. And just from being really strict about cutting down snacks and cutting out caffeine and my beloved coffee with cream. Plus I have not had any sweeteners. I wonder which of these is doing the trick...

yama thanks for the chicken fat tip - cant believe i used to chuck it away.

Had a wonderful weekend, DP sick in bed so I had the dc all to myself for 3 days, we had a ball. Did a bbq for my parents yesterday which was wonderful, and I had a large slice of pavlova and savored every morsel.

Hey can I jump in? I've been trying to lose weight for about a year now. I'm down from 13st 4lb at the start to 11st 10lb now. I've just started trying to eat primal blueprint style, but it's difficult because DP doesn't agree with low carb. He's very set in the 'grains are good' mentality when it comes to food.

All I know is we don't eat processed food, I eat very little sugary food as I just don't have a sweet tooth, we eat plenty of veg and generally a fairly healthy diet yet I have steadily gained weight and struggle to lose it. So I've decided to give low carb a go and see how I do!

Queen - welcome, first of all! Can I recommend that you (and your DH, if he will) read "Escape the Diet Trap" by Dr John Briffa? That will give you a really good understanding of low carbing and why it's going to help you - not only in terms of weight loss but also in terms of long term health.

Why is nobody except me able to cut and paste and use a spreadsheet from an iPad? I am obviously a complete genius Grin

QueenofDreams · 06/05/2013 23:32

thanks BIWI Smile I don't think reading a book will change DP's mind sadly. he's a person who sticks to what he thinks because what he thinks is right, so I'm on my own and just making substitutions as and when I can. When pasta is on the menu though I just eat it, and hope that being good the rest of the time will still help me lose weight.

Can I slink back in please Smile

I've kept my 1/2 my weight off ( i think 3-4 lb) but have let it all slip & I'm not feeling great about it.

I'll be weighing myself tomorrow morning, so if I can be added to the spreadsheet that would be great.

My problem was I got bored, so must pay attention to everyone's meals, i need food inspiration !

Actually another good book is the Diet Delusion...& even better is cooking nice low carb food for him....as long as you don't get bored like me Wink !

Men are funny creatures when it comes to food. Mine told me he had a healthy lunch as he had salad like me, difference was that I had my mayo laden mixed salad with roast chicken, he had his with 2 pork pies!

Queen - make sure that you read the book then. And don't eat pasta just because you're hoping. You really won't lose weight that way!

Ugh, failure of a first week for me, was lucky to stay the same. Still, onwards and downwards, have less outside pressure this week as well.

Ok- stood on scales this morning- 1/4lb lighter.

Still a loss and I'm not disheartened as I've been steadily losing since January.

Finding it hard to remain bootcamp rather than light- I'd got used to berries!

Sorry I haven't been able to post but am trying to follow the threads- when I can keep up!

I've lost 2.5lb this week but I actually started a week before bootcamp and lost 8.5lb in my first week. Very pleased. I do have lots to lose but am feeling confident I can do it.

Thanks to everyone who is posting their menus as I do struggle for inspiration - I also have no oven at the moment which is a bit annoying! Should buy a new one soon but until then it's mostly cold meat and salad. I'm certainly feeling full though and not suffering the weak, shaky sugar dips I used to get so no picking at rubbish :)

Please can someone update the spreadsheet for me? I'm now 172.5lb. My start date is 29 April - I messed it up! Thanks

Thanks BIWI. I've been doing a lot of reading the last couple of weeks and a big one that's been very helpful is Mark's daily apple

breakfast today 3 eggs scrambled with red onion and tomato. Not sure what I'm having later as we're low on food. Shopping will be arriving this afternoon.

Morning all.

Am still here but a bit annoyed with myself. Was doing so well but then my lunch on Thursday and having my sis here for the weekend sent me way off track. Food wise I was mainly ok. Wine wise not so much!

Sis now gone and no excuses to veer from plan until Wed 15th which is my birthday.

At one point I was down 5 lbs but now only a pound. And that is from my original start not last Monday. I actually have a gain from last Monday!

BIWI · 07/05/2013 09:52

QueenofDreams - just be careful with the onion and tomato - they are pretty carby
