Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Back up 2lbs this morning Confused

Normal fluctuations? or down to the six wine gums and tablespoon of ice cream I had last night? Blush

ChocolatePiglet · 07/05/2013 10:02

Does anyone else find they have lots more energy, even after a week on the plan?
I felt like I wanted to crawl into a hole after day 4, but now I am bouncing around with energy!
B. Roast Chicken with mayo
L. Tuna, boiled egg and avocado salad with olive oil/ vinegar dressing
D. IPD Moussaka with rocket salad

Well I had one small tomato and less than 1/4 of an onion, so I don't think that will have put too much carb in? I'm more trying to avoid pure carb foods like bread, pasta, rice, potato, corn and stick to eating food that has more actual nutritional benefit rather than just empty carbs. I will bear that in mind though about onion and tomato :)

When I told DP I'm avoiding the empty carb foods his reply was 'fills you up though' Hmm

... and then makes you hungry again

in theory, but it slightly depends what's in it ruby - could be quite carby veg (onions etc), and it's possible that the filling could have been made with milk rather than cream which might make it carbier. would this be one you had made yourself?

but in a situation where there's genuinely no other option, that would be an acceptable option, definitely

Have entered yesterday's weight - 4lb loss (and scales showed another two this morning).

Weekends food was a bit hit and miss - not carb wise - I stuck to low carb/high protein but didn't drink enough water (still peeing like a racehorse - not really convenient on a day out with ds on my own) and didn't have enough veg.

Breakfast this morning was scrambled eggs with spinach and lots of butter, lunch will be some kind of salad and dinner tonight is grilled salmon and veg. I made mini frittatas over the weekend too - absolutely scrummy. Like little quiches without the pastry.

HavingAnOffDAy · 07/05/2013 12:06

Yey - found the thread after being away yesterday. Well done to everyone who lost & also to any that didn't lose but are sticking with it (I haven't had time for a catch up read yet)

I weighed myself this morning & the scales said 4.4kg Confused I'm pretty certain I don't weigh the same as a newborn so will be sourcing new scales this week!

Gutted I can't weigh but am looking forward to a good loss next week.

Food today:

Bfast - FF greek yog
Lunch - Peppered Mackerel with salad
Dinner - Salmon with broccoli & leeks

I signed to a boot camp thing, put my name on it - but have been away, where is it, what do i do!

MyDarlingYoni · 07/05/2013 12:18

where are the recipes....

LilyAmaryllis · 07/05/2013 13:00

I've just discovered this, trying to start today. So: is houmous low carb or not, please? My pot says carbs in houmous is 8.5g per 100g, sounds low to me, but I don't know if that is "low enough"!

NewStartNewStory · 07/05/2013 13:13

Can i come back? life went a bit tits up last time. Fell off the diet plan and into just get through this no matter what Blush But did try to stick to 3 meals per day and avoid living off heavy processed carbs. So that is a major improvement and thanks to the wonderful advice i had from the bootcamp people in the past.

Need to shift another stone and half plus. But have a few birthdays this week so will probably weigh in on monday and start properly from there, but reduce on way to monday.

BIWI · 07/05/2013 13:15

Lily - that's a bit high. As hummous is made from chickpeas, it's not surprising - legumes/pulses are too carby for Bootcamp.

Welcome back, NewStart!

YAY 2lb off !- despite a pretty bad week ( time of the month sweet rubbish cravings - terrible!) and of course the Blueberries on the yogurt error!
All behind me now.
This works.

Chipsbigbowl · 07/05/2013 13:35

A question for BIWI if I may:

What types of exercise do you find work with this diet? I watched an interview with Taubes and he wasn't that enthusiastic for exercise, as it tends to encourage over eating apparently. What type of exercise have you seen work best with this diet? Thanks

QueenofDreams · 07/05/2013 13:56

Ok lunch is baby leaf spinach topped with cheddar cheese and dressed with olive oil and vinegar. Boiled egg on the side. Bit of an egg heavy day today - is that a problem? That will be resolved this afternoon anyway once my groceries arrive.

I need to be extra good this week because I fell off the wagon a bit this weekend due to bbq at MIL's on Saturday and then going to a local festival yesterday and eating food from one of the stalls (a burger and I felt awful the rest of the day, really sick and acidic last night)

NewStartNewStory · 07/05/2013 14:05

chipsbigbowl i didn't find that the woe itself encouraged overeating when i was exercising. More that it was easier to say well i have done x or y so it will be ok if I eat "not allowed" etc. If i ate just what i needed to feel full I wasn't actually eating much more then most on here but was doing significantly more exercise then some. (nature of job)

Although I am sure BIWI and others might have a more normal experience of this. ;)

Chipsbigbowl · 07/05/2013 14:33

Thanks Newstart. i used to be a big runner, but that never actually helped me lose weight strangely, well i suspect it was actually as you say, you say- i kept treating myself after exercise? I wonder if this WOE works really well with any particular type of exercise, or whether I just steer clear of exercise (over and above the (miles and miles of) walking I do as part of everyday life?

QueenofDreams · 07/05/2013 14:39

chips I'm no expert as I'm new to this myself, but if you check out a site called mark's daily apple, there's tips on there for good types of exercise to go for. On that site they're actually dead against heavy cardio exercise like running. There's some impressive success stories on there as well.

NewStartNewStory · 07/05/2013 14:41

on the last two threads I was on there were various exercises undertaken by different people. I am more flexibility, a little light stamina and lots of minimal movement light toning stuff (volume rather then intensity) but there were others who did a far more intensive toning routine. Kettle ball weight stuff and bootcomp type exercise plans. Can't remember what was said but would be before week 5 of the last bootcamp thread series. if you are bored or wish to have a hunt

Tbh I think it is one of those things where not everything suit everyone and it is a case of finding what works for you with trial and error a bit. Personally I can train harder and longer on this woe due to less blood sugar swings. Others found it harder.
