2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

Hi Doreta. I swear by the app, so you've got no excuse not to track everything that passes your lips! At a WW meeting I went to once, the leader suggested immediately pouring salt on DCs leftovers to make them inedible Grin. But well done on your weight loss so far!

Have had a point-heavy few days and we've got a kids' party later. I'm thinking of finishing off my weeklies then just having my basic allowance for the next three days before WI. That wedding I mentioned in the OP happens next Saturday, so I could do with shifting any extra that I can.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the thread! [waves]

I've always struggled with my weight, also have issues with comfort / binge eating which are a constant battle then disappointing when I 'give in'.

I lost weight on the old ww, put back on over time and joined the new ww last October. Unfortunately due to some bad / worrying times and Christmas I've put back on the 8lb I had lost.

I'm at a point where previously I would give up and stick my head back in the sand but am trying to change this time round so will be getting myself to my meeting tomorrow and have meal planned this week.

I'll keep checking in to the thread to try and seek inspiration!

Hi Suzy! Thank you for joining our thread. We are doing so well that soon we will be starting 2013 WW no. 2 thread!

A lot of us are doing it online and using this thread as our group support. It must be working because we are losing weight!!

Doretaball · 03/02/2013 19:15

I agree about the app, its so easy. Little bit frightening when i pointed my day yesterday and it totalled 71!!

I've just got the hairy dieters book so was going to make a couple of the curries this week. They do seem to use a bit of oil etc, I was going to try and cut the points down a bit more by using fry light, hope it won't effect the flavour! My OH is one of those who doesn't eat any of that 'diet muck' so I'll not be telling him they're diet foods and see what he thinks!

Am trying to think positive about my WI tomorrow. Am in this for the long run so if I've gained I just need to think about how much I've lost in total and focus on that.

Am fed up of dieting on and off for years so I'm trying to think of this as a lifestyle change!

I haven't really been cooking ang new recipes but just adapting my normal food by using less fat and more veg. I do have a few good soup recipes so will post those when I get a mo.

Thank you for your support already. Will post tomorrow after my WI.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 03/02/2013 20:33

Hi to all new people and well done to all losers (I mean that in a nice way Wink ).

Been mad busy this weekend doing all sorts. Had friends for dinner last night and had wine and dessert. However I did STACKS of exercise too so hopefully I'll be ok. Am going to stick strictly to points until Friday's weigh in.

Have a wonderful week all Thanks

OhTheConfusion · 03/02/2013 21:50

I am sitting eating cheese (low fat), crackers and fruit... with a glass of port. I LOVE PP's!

flatmouse · 04/02/2013 08:24

Morning all - happy Monday! Well done for the weekend losses, welcome to the newbies.
Monday morning WI for me - have lost 2.4lbs today (the WW app really is crap at tracking weight - but i've edited to correct it online). Wondered if it would be more as i was ill on Sat and barely used any points. But happy with that - i'm 0.8lbs off my first WW assigned goal!
After 4 weeks of saying it, i've finally got out my tape measure so i can start tracking measurements too. (not that it matters i'll be here for many more weeks yet!). The burning question is - will i continue to ignore JM or will i get changed at lunchtime and get shredding! Belt has had to be tightened a notch, and jeans definitely looser - things are moving in the right direction.
Am glad you lot are here tho - announced to DH that i'd lost 9.8lbs so far and barely got a grunt :(

OhTheConfusion · 04/02/2013 09:03

Well done flatmouse... having held BF's 10lb baby yesterday I can tell you that is some achievement!!! Grin

Has anyone tried shredding so far... it gives me the fear! I am off to my first fitness class tonight for over 3yrs Blush. Poor DD2 must be fed up going power walks in the pushchair but needs must!

flatmouse · 04/02/2013 09:21

I've shredded before and i loved it - mainly because it's so quick but you really feel you have achieved something - and last time it definitely made a difference inch loss wise! (Altho JM can be a bit much at times) I tend to swap between easy and hard depending on the exercise (pathetic upper body strength means push ups almost impossible!)

And OMG never thought of it like a 10lb baby!! Oh my goodness!

OhTheConfusion · 04/02/2013 09:53

Might pop into hmv and pick up a copy. I have been doing the chantell houghton fitness bootcamp for a few weeks... if you ignore the dodgy set it is ok and has got my fitness up from a big ZERO!

Weigh in for me is tomorrow afternoon... I am a bit nervous but can honestly say hand on heart I have stuck to the diet and exercised so fingers crossed!

Also I have started to realise what hungry feels like in the morning... I have went from not having breakfast to looking for it!

SallyBear · 04/02/2013 10:27

Well I have been laid up with a flu like virus (thank you littlest DS - much appreciated) and feeling very ill with no appetite. I weighed myself ahead of Wednesday, yesterday morning and I had lost 5lbs. I was very excited, DH then pointed out it was probably due to loss of fluid. Talk about bursting my bubble!! Angry Anyway I hope that it still says a loss of some sort on Wednesday Grin

flatmouse · 04/02/2013 10:35

Sally hope you're feeling better - what is it with these DHs' and their pins for bursting bubbles! It might not be 5lbs but suspect it'll still be a good loss.

OhTheConfusion I just bit the bullet and did Shred L1D1 (long coffee break ;-) ) I was very pleased i got all the way through - no phoning it in (JM term), and was feeling slightly smug - until i realised my legs had gone to jelly!! Ah well, got to start somewhere :) Now to point it.

essexgirl31 · 04/02/2013 12:20

Hi all,

Hope it is ok to join this thread. I lost 3 stone on WW 3 years ago - went down to 11st. I am 5f 7in so about right for me. I am back up to 14stBlush. I started the bootcamp low carb diet but found it too hard being vegetarian and fitting in with the family's diet. Have done SW in the past but I really need to learn portion control.

I need to work really hard at my emotional responses too ie when I am happy I treat myself. When I am unhappy - I treat myself to make myself feel better. Anything to celebrate - I treat myself. I could go on!!

I have a question - weighed in last Monday 14st - was allowed 27 pp. Weighed in today 13st 8lb. I am now allowed 29 pp. This doesn't make any sense in my head! Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thank you

SallyBear · 04/02/2013 12:29

Hi Essex. Welcome to the thread. In answer to your question, no! I haven't heard of that before. Did you join a group or do it online? If it was a group maybe there had been a clerical error? Anyway, a great start. Well done. Have a read through the thread, if you have any recipes that you'd like to share, please look out for links for the 2013 WW recipe thread and link them on here so that we can all have a try. Smile

I've just made two huge pots of soup for the week. One is a chunky chicken, vegetable and pulses soup which I think will be about 5pp a portion and a Green Super Soup which is leeks, spinach, watercress, onion, rocket, potato and garlic cooked in stock and then blended which I would class as a 0pp soup.

OhTheConfusion · 04/02/2013 13:04

Sallybear Sad... so many horrid bugs going around. Hope your on the mend now.

Flatmouse, I am only working a few days his week so no excuse to dodge if you can do it in coffee break!!!

Essex, think the first one has been an error. I weiged in last week at 15st 1/2lb Blush and get 33pp. I am 5' 6". I would double check just incase.

I have just made a big pot of chicken, leek and potato soup. I make it to be 1pp per portion. Will pop the recipie on the thread.

jazzcat28 · 04/02/2013 13:06

Welcome to the new posters! Hopefully this will turn into a really positive successful thread if January's losses are anything to go by.

Are any of you grazers/snack little and often? I am guilty of this at work and have recently signed up to Graze - for about £3 a box they deliver little pots of healthy snacks. The best bit is they send all the nutritional values with each box so you can point them! This week I have dried apple, strawberries and black currants (2pp), a cheesy cracker and salsa dip (1pp), lemon cake (2pp) and choc coated nuts (6pp). All much more healthy than the muffins on offer in my work canteen!

If you want a try pm me and I can give you a code which gives you a free box.

I'm on my 2nd and its adding novelty and variety into my work snacking and guilt free as I can point it all.

jaynemum5 · 04/02/2013 13:22

hi all jayne here from Hertfordshire been reading info on web and joining the group on Wednesday this week joined some 25 years ago but finances forsed me leaving

had a weight problem since early teens lost my sister at 13.
9 months younger than me became a comfort eater then weighing 12 stone my eating was out of controle

at 17 years met my now husband pat and slimmed down to 9 stone i was happy started a family and with my second pilled on lots of weight and this i struggled to loss weight, lost weight while on a plan f plan /Cambridge diet pluss more but when i stopped it it cheeped back on up to 17 stone on finding out i was excepting our 5 child i was determined not to put on at the start managed to loose a little and put on in total about 8 lb. after her birth i was back to same as before

now 9 years on i still weigh the same not in good health main due to strain on my body with this added weight but was diagnosed with eds and things are a struggle as far as exercise lots of falls discolorations.

but i have to do it now i do have comfort eating issues but working on them and with the help of a group where i am hoping i can get the support and encouragement. happy to share recipes and tips and will be using this site to help to

NoWayNoHow · 04/02/2013 13:35

Morning all.

Welcome Doreta, SuzySuz and EssexGirl!! And big congrats to jazzcat, onthemetro and flatmouse on your losses - amazing!

BigTilly I wouldn't worry about your STS - by the sounds of it, I reckon it's probably down to of AF (who is a cowface), but also don't underestimate the effects of losing fat and gaining muscle. 38 activity points is a lot to tot up in 7 days (more than I could ever manage 5 a day!) - maybe take your measurements after AF and see if there's a difference week on week?

SallyBear so sorry to hear you're still unwell - you have oodles of empathy from me. I, too, was struck down most of last week with a nasty virus and am only just making it to the top of the stairs again without my legs turning to jelly!

Had a great weekend, food wise - I had fun, but all within boundaries, which was absolutely brilliant. It's so nice to have the freedom, but have total ownership of it too.

We had friends round yesterday and I made the classic lasagne and vegetable lasagne from the BBC Good FOod site, but just by swapping out some basic ingredients and being smarter with the cooking methods, I managed to bring the meat version down to 14pp per portion and the veg one to 9pp per portion, so quite pleased with that. Was amazed at how ridiculous some of the quantities were - NO-ONE needs to toss aubergines and peppers in 8 tablespoons of olive oil - WTAF?! Also had wine and treats, but pointed it all - love WI on a Friday, as I know exactly where I stand with my weeklies now for the rest of the week!

Anyway, I hope you all have a good day and good luck for the WIs coming up!

NoWayNoHow · 04/02/2013 13:37

x-post with jayne - welcome to you too, hope that you kind find a lot of support on this thread!

chillyigloo · 04/02/2013 13:48

Damn you Pringles!

(Discovered you get a surprisingly good handful of Pringles for 4pp which is great if you're at a family gathering and have the urge to have a naughty treat. Then discovered that Mr Pringles have made them so delicious that you end up having 4 surprisingly good handfuls and your 4pp treat turns into a 16pp treat. Angry )

SallyBear · 04/02/2013 14:10

My dad keeps saying that he snacks on a handful of nuts. I'd snack on a bloody face full of nuts. Definitely avoiding the snacking. Fruit is my snack of choice. I daren't do crunchy snacks as I will keep going!

OhTheConfusion · 04/02/2013 14:11

I have put a few new recipies on the thread below... yummy seafood linuine and a nice low pp soup.

jaynemum5 · 04/02/2013 14:43

hi joining wednesday to my local group can some one explain how you work out pro point with normal every day food i do not buy packet pre cooked meals so eg how would i work out how many points in a tin of tuna and 8 oz cooked pasta and two tablespoon salad cream this is a meal the whole family love
hopefull herb spices are all free points
thanks if anyone can help with this

CosmicMouse · 04/02/2013 15:05

Jaynemum5 - you can look up the values for all foods on the website and/the app, not just convenience foods. I barely use these, and follow the plan really successfully. The website has a recipe builder too, which I use a lot. So you put in each item, and how many servings that's for, and it'll work out the propoints for each serving.

Good luck for your meeting.

CosmicMouse · 04/02/2013 15:06

And yes, spices are all 0 points.
