2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

Well done Crunchie, thats a great loss. I had my weigh in today and also did my measurements. So, my review of my January detox is that it went pretty well, I stuck to pointing everything, I completed Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 and did not drink alcohol. The results are in and in total I lost 10 pounds (8 since starting WW) and I lost an inch from arms, bust, thighs and 2 inches from waist and hips.

So, my plan for February is to continue with WW (need to lose another 10 to 12 pounds to get to target), break the 10 stone barrier ( I weighed in at 10 stone today) and try to drink alcohol in moderation.

It has reminded me how much better I feel when I eat healthily and snack on fruit instead of chocolate and crisps. I am also surprised at how unlike a diet it has felt at times as I have used my weeklies to indulge in the odd craving.

I am feeling very motivated to stick at this and get back to my pre pregnancy weight. I think a big part of my motivation is this thread and seeing how well all the rest of you are doing, so keep posting!Smile

Stickwithit · 01/02/2013 18:06

noway so glad you have had a better weigh in this week. It does make sense that the less you have to loose, the more tricky it is to shift the weight.

I lost 3.5lb this week- I got my first silver seven and achieved my 5% target. I'm really pleased, and totally amazed.

Stickwithit · 01/02/2013 18:09

livingin sorry I missed your post when I checked this thread. You've done so well, it's so encouraging to hear about other peoples successes.

mehreen · 01/02/2013 20:58

Hi everyone! I'm really upset I feel like a inflated balloon and desperately need to lose weight! I was previously on weight watcher points system and don't understand the new propoints system - please can someone help? I need to lose 1 and a half stones. I need motivation and dedication and feel like I'm lacking in it Sad I'm so upset and feel like I've lost all confidence in myself! In the past when I was on ww I lost 2 stones and was so chuffed - without any form of exercise, I can't exercise to save my life and can't see it happening Hmm
Please help!!!!!

didireallysaythat · 01/02/2013 21:01

INeed - I just remembered your original post. I think having small goals on the way us a great idea. I'm sure you'll be feeling good about your loss at your family do. I've promised myself a manicure when I hit the ten stone mark.

Not if I hit it. When I hit it.

Off to pack oat cakes and cereal bars...

chillyigloo · 01/02/2013 21:57

mehreen Are you going to a meeting or doing it yourself? I found it a bit complicated for the first few days but you soon get your head round it. I track everything on the iphone app and, for me, it's a godsend. Takes so much of the effort out of it.

Good luck!

onthemetro · 02/02/2013 07:59

Well done on the losses everyone.

My weigh in is at 9, I'm dreading it if I'm honest...not because I've gone off plan, because I haven't and I've stuck to my points, earned a lot of AP (11 just on Wednesday walking around London all day!), and I've used about 6 of my weeklies...I've just convinced myself that this wont work for me and I have no idea why. Confused

Stickwithit · 02/02/2013 08:04

I felt like that yesterday onthemetro, but ended up with a good result- I've every confidence that you will too.

I'm trying to menu plan for the coming weekConfused. I've borrowed a copy of the Hairy Dieters and found a link to a website where a kind soul has pointed all the recipes- I will attempt to link to it. Hoping to try their sweet and sour chicken, cottage pie and flapjacks this week.

mehreen · 02/02/2013 08:34

I don't like the new pro points I want to just do the old points, is anyone following it?

mehreen · 02/02/2013 08:35

Chillyigloo I've not actually been to the meeting yet didnt want to start the new propoints was hoping I could continue with the old one :(

Livinginorganisedchaos · 02/02/2013 08:52

mehreen I was a propoints sceptic at first as the old plan had worked really well for me. However, I love the fact that fruit is now 0 pp as I used to love fruit and eat a lot of it. After doing WW and more recently Dukan in the last few years, I had got out of the habit of eating fruit and that just didnt sound healthy to me.

The other thing is that by giving you weeklies that are optional to use at any time, it allows you the odd indulgence. I try to meal plan a day and keep it within my dallies and activity PP. Then, if I slip off plan and eat something I have been craving, I can just point it and take it out of my weeklies.

Honestly, it took no time at all to get used to it. Worth considering doing it online as it is very easy to track all your food and I think the mobile app is great for when you are out and about.

onthemetro · 02/02/2013 09:39

Thanks stickwithit I was just nervous I think. I lost 3.5lbs anyway which has really cheered me up! Smile

SallyBear · 02/02/2013 12:02

Wahoo Metro!!! Well done you. X

I've had a crappy two weeks with sick children in the house. This week I caught their lurgy. I'm on antibees for a nasty throat infection and have a dreadful headcold. So I'm in bed. This week I had McDs. Drew a crunchie line for myself as realistically I needed it and was past caring by that point. Yesterday I made egg pasta with sauteed bacon, mushrooms and garlic stirred into it with red pesto, creme fraiche and fresh Parmesan for dinner. For a fairly rich dinner it worked out at 16pp per portion. Much better that the cheese quarter pounder and fries I'd had the other night......!

Mehreen welcome to our group. If you have an iPhone or Android get the WW app, also join online if you can't do meetings. The PP is good. You have a daily allowance, lots of free food and weekly amount to use like an overdraft. I tend to do the WW filling and healthy option as it suits my lifestyle better.

INeedThatForkOff · 02/02/2013 15:30

Well done onthemetro, that's an excellent loss!

mehreen, it took me a while to be convinced but personally I think PPs are better.

chillyigloo · 02/02/2013 16:29

Onthemetro That's amazing loss! Well done.

Now then, I'm a born and bred Rugby lass, so let's see how weight watchers stands up to the Six Nations - I'm afraid it's having an introduction by fire (But I promise every single crisp that passes my lips will be tracked. Even if I have to borrow somebody elses weeklies to do it!)

jazzcat28 · 02/02/2013 20:04

Well ladies I bloody LOVE weight watchers. I lost 3.5lb this week! So that's 10lb off in 4 weeks.

I nearly fell off the scales when she told me my loss this morning - I had a Dominos pizza on wednesday night and a curry last night (home cooked) - all pointed within my pp allowances for the day/week but somehow it didn't seem right that I'd lost so much after a pretty indulgent week!

I think something must be sinking in though, today I went for lunch in a Weatherspoons without my app/eating out book and I managed to pick the second best option in terms of pp just by thinking about what would be the healthiest.

I'm loving that I can eat out, socialise, drink, eat well at home and work and still shift the weight.

The app is a god send and the fact fruit is completely free is just brilliant.

My top tip ladies for this week is: Factor in some treats each week to make yourself feel like you're not starving yourself. 0pt soup really helps with this.

bigTillyMint · 02/02/2013 22:04

Well done you lot!

I am hoping that I will have lost when I WI tomorrow, but feeling rather bloaty due to the time of the month....

INeedThatForkOff · 02/02/2013 22:41

Really well done jazzcat.

You see this is what pisses me off about WW critics: it's not a con; it is a normal, balanced eating plan. It does address issues leading to overeating by making you more aware of healthy choices and portion control. It's much easier than faffing about with calorie counting. Everyone seems to assume that WW members are greedy, demotivated and gullible. Grr!

backinaminute · 03/02/2013 08:11

Hi everyone. I've just caught up with the thread as I've been away this week. It all went to pot for 4 days ad missed my weigh in. I didn't count while I was away but just tried to make sensible choices and while everyone was drinking lovely lattés and hot chocolate I had Americanos. I did however also drink quite a lot of wine and 0!,,I only lasted one morning eating my weighed out porridge while everyone else had bacon and egg sandwiches! It definitely makes you more aware as I would have properly stuffed myself previously but did go easy. I will be happy if I've stayed the same. I'm back on it with gusto as of yesterday though.

I cooked the HD Prawn and Coconut Curry and it was delicious and wasn't at all diet food (I will try and get it on the recipe thread when i get chance). I'm going to do the cottage pie today. I'm also going to try extra lean mince in the slow cooked to see how that works out. If there is anything about ww that is good is that it's making me meal plan and cook from scratch much more. It is tricky with 2 young children. I have to say my energy levels have improved like I can't believe and that is with a 9 week old baby that wakes up to be fed every 2 hours. I also have a 22 month old toddler but feel fine in the day. Just shows that quick sugar fixes really aren't the answer as that's what I've always done. I'm trying to move us all over to everything brown - we've always had brown bread but pasta and rice too. It does keep you fuller or longer.

I lurk all the time on this thread but don't often get chance to post. Everyone is doing so well and it keeps me really motivated reading how other people are doing. The recipes are fab too and much better than the ones I've seen from ww themselves. I have lived on Butternut Squash and Harissa Soup and the Thai Green Veg soup. I left out the potatoes and put less stock in but stir a tbsp of fat free natural yogurt in it and it's 0 points.

Well I've had 2 weigh ins and lost 5.5lbs so far so I hope I haven't undone it this week, Thursday should have been my 3rd. I'm not stressing too much though, trying to see it as a long term change and there are going to be times like this and so that for me is more realistic than thinking I can count every bit of food everyday for the rest of my life - it's so hard when others cook for you. I'm also really conscious of going on about we to other people as I've been like that before and I can see the 'here we go again' looks in their rolled eyes. I'm just quietly going to become super hot and accept all the compliments that I'm sure will come flowing it. I keep telling DP 'I'm going to be so HOT!' Haha Grin

Well done to everyone, at least we are now into Feb so it wasn't a New Year Fad. Right....... Porridge time!

SallyBear · 03/02/2013 08:23

Great to hear from you backinaminute! I think it is difficult when you are out of your new routine and trying hard not to slip back into old habits. If you've stayed the same it's ok, it's a blip in a long term plan.

I bought some Sainsbury's Taste the Difference rolled porridge oats, and they really do keep you topped up until lunchtime. As you like soup, you could do a chunky ham and/or chicken soup with loads of winter veg and soup mix pulses. Very filling and feels more like a stew than a soup. I use the filling and healthy and that would be classed as a 0pp. The giant whole wheat couscous was nice, nothing like fine couscous but good all the same. I switched to brown rice too, I particularly like Tilda Brown Basmati - no washing required! The brown pasta is something that I'm still not sure about. I bought some fresh brown tagliatelle in the week. I will let you know what it's like.

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2013 09:44

Well WI this morning - stayed the sameSad But I am due on and I do feel bloaty so I'm hoping I'll have a loss next week. Still had 30 weeklies left, so hadn't overeaten and had earned 38 activity points....

CiderwithBuda · 03/02/2013 10:14

Morning all. Well done on all the losses! Wonder now much we have lost in total on this thread? Be interesting to find out!

Tilly - you may have a good loss next week. Drink loads of water as that can help with fluid retention. Frustrating though not to have lost when you have done so well with points and activity.

Sally - funny - I didn't find the Sainsburys porridge kept me going! The only one that does that for me is the Scots porage oats. Weird.

Had a bottle of wine last night. 18 points. Had been really good with wine intake over the week so counted the points and the late niht wine induced nibbles and am still ok points wise. No weeklies left though. So need to stick to my 30 points today and tomorrow till WI on Tuesday.

Last night for dinner we had a variation on the masala chicken from the HD book for dinner. Instead of a whole chicken we made half the marinade and used it on four chicken breasts. Cooked two and put two in the freezer. We also did the cumin roasted veg and a yogurt and mint raita. It was really nice. Huge list of spices for the marinade but well worth it.

Dinner tonight is roast pork. I will have one roast potato and one Yorkshire pudding with it and then just roast veg. We always have to have Yorkshires with a roast as DS loves them. The Aunt Bessies frozen ones are only 1 point and it seems to make the plate look fuller! Just about to have poached egg on toast for breakfast and will be doing a zero point soup for lunch.

onthemetro · 03/02/2013 13:09

Tilly, I'm sure it'll catch up with you. That time of the month always plays havoc with weight loss I find Smile

I'm going for a pub lunch today with family I haven't seen for about a year. I'm looking forward to it, and have used my eating out book to point it...comes to 25pp which is a lot and I will go into my weeklies but its fine. I will just have to resist having dessert Smile

Forgot to say that DP also lost 2.5lbs yesterday! So in total we've both lost 3.5 in 2 weeks Smile

Hope everyone has a good day.

Doretaball · 03/02/2013 13:15

Hi. Is it too late for me to join the thread? It seems like a lovely place to be!

I've been doing WW online since 7 Jan and have done really well so far, 11lbs off. But I've found this week really hard and have noticed old habits creeping back in (finishing off Dd's cheese on toast etc). Also went out to eat yesterday and didn't pick wisely and accidentally ate half a massive bar of whole nut on Friday!

Feel like I might gain tomorrow when I weigh in and so could do with a bit of extra support to get back on track.

I started at 12.9, now weigh 11.11.5. Not quite sure what my goal weight is going to be. I've had 2 little girls in the last 2 years so shape has changed quite a bit. I'm 5'6 so thinking somewhere around the 10.7 zone would be ok. I'm breast feeding so currently have 40 points but do sometimes struggle as I do feel quite hungry.

Sorry for boring info overload,

DB

SallyBear · 03/02/2013 13:32

Hi Doretaball. Welcome to our little group. We all try to support and encourage, no nagging or guilt trips allowed! I think we are all doing well as its been such a supportive thread from the outset. All with one goal, to lose weight and to keep it off!

If you have any recipes that have been good for WW, then please share them on the recipe thread and link it from here so that we can all have a try! A lot of us are finding the Hairy Dieters (HD) recipe book really helpful, and quite a few of us have adapted our usual cooking to be more WW friendly.
