New thread for those of us who need a little kick every now and again. Remind me of your reasons for doing this again? I need to be a healthy weight for possibly the first time in my adult life.
We all have blips. Days, sometimes even weeks off. And the scales stay the same or even go up. But long term, you should be losing weight and learning new habits to maintain. Think of it like house prices - they fluctuate and go down as well as up (apparently they do go up!). But over a long period of time you're unlikely to regret buying a house.
welcome yoghurt :) you'll find all the support and virtual kicks up the bum you need here.

We're getting quite close to the end of this thread. Anyone fancy starting the next one?

Had to share - we were due to have visitors yesterday so I popped out to the bakery to get some cakes for them (not me though!). They cancelled at the last minute and can you believe my pig of a DH ate an apple turnover, millionnaires shortbread, giant choc cookie AND donut yesterday as snacks additionally to his meals and some crisps etc as other snacks Shock (big bakery sized portions too) - and yet he's still as slim as anything Envy

That millonnaires shortbread would have been history if I was around!! Well done you!

kato being gluten free (and so unable to eat 'normal' cakes etc no matter how much I want to) has it's plus sides occasionally Wink

Hi
I have been redirected here and need support.

Quick info. I am nearly 3 stone over weight and have been for the last three years. I am veggie, a shift worker - I eat meals at work in a residential setting. I amd 47. I am also can't imagine fitting in to my lovely ( some very expensive!) clothes that hang in my wardrobe almost tormenting me!!!!

I've had my Oats so simple for breakfast and I have a circuit training class at luch time.
The big question is .....What next?!

Iknow hello there . What sort of diet do you have (other than veggie I mean)? I know what you mean re: a wardrobe of lovely clothes you can't wear - pre preg I was a size 16 ( I realise this isn't that teeny!) but over a year after DD was born I found myself nearly 5 stone heavier and a size 22 Blush . I'm also veggie btw. This year I've lost over 3 stone and am a size 18 now...so getting there! Pre preg clothes still don't fit though . I've been using my fitness pal website on and off over that time and I've found that incredibly useful. There are some people with amazing motivational skills and fabulous losses to share so they might be able to help a bit more than me!

Well done losers Grin

reastie my diet is Oats so simple in the morning at lunch time it is an omlette, scrambled eggs or something similar but by the afternoon things fall apart. The odd piece of cake here, Dh will bring some mars bars or something home because he fancies something sweet. We eat out quite a bit and even though I choose what I percieve to be healthy options I know they aren't likey to be if it is pub food and often I am very limited because I am a veggie. ( Pasta in sauces, salads with cheeses etc) We love Indian meals and eat there.

Actually writing things down it is glaring obvious what I am doing wrong!!!

We are going snowboarding in February so I want weight off for that!

Weighed this morning, 11st 6lb! 3lb off since last week (before Amsterdam and London), I know I'll end up paying for those eventually, but for now I'm happy I finally caught down with Hair Smile.

Could someone technically minded change the "percentage lost" on the spreadsheet to update it, it's still at the value from a month or so back.

I weighed in this morning - my first monday weigh in - 205lbs eeeek - want/need to lose 50lbs but no fixed time limit.

Well done IMST and joining for stepping into the scales! I've lost almost 50lbs since last year so it's deffo doable!

Morning everyone. Welcome joining. You can do it if you really want to. We're a pretty mixed bag here. Some lose consistently, some (like me) find it a bit harder. We all seem to be pretty honest even on a bad week so if you need encouragement or a kick up the bum you're in the right place. Even just posting about food and exercise can keep you focused.

Yesterday wasn't great for me. Bonfire night goodies - enough said I think. I'm going to be busy over the next few days so that should help. I've got to make an ancient Greek costume, a mouse costume and a table tennis Olympics cake. Hmm

Hi Joining what some of us have found helpful is to post height, start weight, current weight, goal and reasons we want to lose weight. It just helps give something concrete to work towards.
Recapping mine:
Height 5ft
Start 14st
Current 11st 6lb
Goal 11st, BMI 29 by Christmas
Reasons: worked out my BMI in the summer (it was 38!), didn't want to get morbidly obese, sick of thigh rub destroying all my size 18 trousers.
Tactics:
smaller portions,
logging food and exercise on My Fitness Pal,
recognising that I need less food than DH to maintain as I am 8in shorter.
Eating only one cake/biscuit/chocolate where I would have eaten all of them before.
Having a glass of water instead of snacking between meals.

Those are sound targets. Sustainable weight loss that stays off shouldn't be more than 2lb a week, and don't try to do too much too soon or you'll get disheartened. Gradual permanent changes to the way you view food are more likely to work than fad diets or exercise regimes.
Forgot to say, my weight loss has been since July, when I joined this lovely bunch and stopped hoovering up all the cake in sight and the tactics I mentioned, I didn't do them all at once, I added perhaps one more tactic a week, or with the portion sizes, gradually reduced over a month.
I found water helpful in staving off habit hunger at first, until my body got used to less food.

Morning losers and welcome joining.
I am away at work at the moment, all meals carefully plannedx weighed and logged in advance...and left in the fridge at home :( been to Morrison's for some salads so not too bad but I will not waste the stuff I've lovingly prepared.
Been an ok week. Seem to eat rihght on my limit most days so not expecting a loss. Would be nice to be back to 11s6 again as apparently over the weekend I put on 6lb Hmm

reastie · 07/11/2012 07:40

Hello all.

stealth 6lbs in one week end??? That can't be right! I've had a few of those and weighed a couple of days later and was back on track.

Iron rich diet going OK I think. Weighed myself this morning and may lose 1 lb this week, which would be fab. 3lbs off my christmas target but I know things will be slow now I'm not allowed to go to the gym until my iron increases.

I'm fed up of wearing clothes 2 sizes too big for me! I have some new tops/jeans in my current size 18 but haven't managed to get any new work clothes so today I am in a skirt, top and cardi in a size 22 and they look ridiculous! Maybe this is why no one at work has noticed or commented on my weight loss Hmm

we are v similar on weights - I think I'm now about 201 lbs

Morning.

Stealth that can't be right. I remember that happening to reastie. Try drinking lots of water over the next day or so. You may need to flush out your system iyswim. Also how annoying about your carefully planned meals.

reastie you need to get shopping. Wearing clothes 2 sizes to big is an embarrassment waiting to happen.

I'm having a duvet day, laid up with a cold. I'm still "working" though, reading a book on Greek mythology. I have so far learned that the Greek Gods were a bunch of slappers who'd gladly get it on with anything and anyone!
