New thread for those of us who need a little kick every now and again. Remind me of your reasons for doing this again? I need to be a healthy weight for possibly the first time in my adult life.
We all have blips. Days, sometimes even weeks off. And the scales stay the same or even go up. But long term, you should be losing weight and learning new habits to maintain. Think of it like house prices - they fluctuate and go down as well as up (apparently they do go up!). But over a long period of time you're unlikely to regret buying a house.
welcome yoghurt :) you'll find all the support and virtual kicks up the bum you need here.

Thanks guys. I didn't even have the energy to do an exercise DVD this morning Sad . Stealth my stomach reacts to irons meds so am trying the herbal route for a month in the hope it helps but if that doesn't work my GP is forcing me on the strong stuff which, by past experience, will have me crippled with tummy pain Confused . Have just put a big shopping order in for lots of seeds, nuts, watercress, dried fruit etc.

TheOneWithTheHair · 29/10/2012 14:01

reastie drink a glass of orange juice with every meal. It really helps with iron absorption. Our bodies find it hard to absorb iron anyway and plant iron is even harder. Do try it with the juice. It can help.

And don't leave, we'll miss you.

MilkshakeMaker · 29/10/2012 17:19

I agree reastie, you are not allowed to leave us, it's def better to put your health first so we can post how we're getting on and you can do the same iron wise! It's silly of your gp to say they will put you back on meds that don't agree with you, I hope just eating different foods can help so it doesn't get to that.

I forgot to weigh this morning but will b-day in in the morning to fess up.

Well done for maintaining and loosing everyone, keep up the good work! (Not meant as patronising as that sounds I promise)

reastie · 29/10/2012 18:29
Thanks

Hair have ordered orange juice in next shopping order too, thanks

TheOneWithTheHair · 29/10/2012 19:58

Good luck reastie. I hope you don't have to go back on the disagreeable tablets. Keep us updated on iron levels instead of lbs like Milkshake said. :)

A good food day for me. How is everyone else getting on this Motivational Monday?

MilkshakeMaker · 30/10/2012 07:43

Extra day but 11st3 this morning so 2lb loss from last week, woo!

What sort of weight is a size 12, any one know?!

TheOneWithTheHair · 30/10/2012 07:56

Morning Milkshake. Well done on your loss.

I don't know about size 12. I suppose it depends on your height. If you're average I don't imagine you're far off. :)

MilkshakeMaker · 30/10/2012 08:17

Yeah I realised that after I posted that height makes all the difference, googled how many inches it was...I'm Waaaay off! Ha ha, it's a goal though

How is everyone this morning? I've got my first driving lesson in months...not many cals in kalms right?!

TheOneWithTheHair · 30/10/2012 08:33

Good luck with the driving lesson. You'll be fine. Grin

I was going to the science museum with IMST and six children but I've realised that dd has a ballet workshop today so we can't go. :( I'll try later in the week.

(sorry IMST I forgot as usual. I'll ring you in a bit. )

Should be a good food day again today. I'm feeling positive after actually losing some last week. :)

reastie · 30/10/2012 08:48

Morning everyone. Love all the positive thinking here.

I weighed myself today and seem to be just putting on weight - last few days have been getting slightly heavier every day Sad . I'm trying to tell myself it's due to the herbal iron stuff I'm on as they make me feel a bit bunged up IYKWIM, so hoping it's just that. I'm also feeling so so hungry at the minute which is not helping my positive attitude. Sorry, that was a bit down wasn't it. Just fed up with low iron levels and having to go off diet for a while.

TheOneWithTheHair · 30/10/2012 08:52

reastie you have to tackle one thing at a time. Take it easy and sort out the more immediate health issue first iyswim. Can you see a nutritionalist maybe to help you with what foods you should eat? Your diet is quite restricted so you could maybe do with some help.

InMySpareTime · 30/10/2012 09:10

It's ok Hair One of the extra children can't come, so it'll be me +3 DCs, perfectly manageable.

reastie · 30/10/2012 09:12

Thanks hair , I guess I just felt like i was getting there with what I was eating etc, having to completely revamp my diet is a bit scary re: maintaining and losing weight as well, and I hate the thought of putting on weight again after working so hard Confused

I know how bloody hard it is to get back on it. You have proved you can do it when your head is in the right place. Maintaining is fine whilst you get back there. You will do it if you want to.

KatoPotato · 30/10/2012 10:37

Hey Guys! Well done Hair, Bonkey and Milkshake! Clothes sizing charts are so varied, and every item of clothes differs! Just try on a few variations next time you go shopping! I know I can get my whole hand down my size 14 jeggings from M&S but my size 16 primark dress is pretty snug! Going to go shopping for an xmas night out dress nearer the time so you never know!

reastie If you're 'bunged up' then your weight is going to fluctuate greatly, I would just prescribe staying off the scales and judging by your clothes for now, because otherwise you'll drive yourself to distraction, the importance is eating for your health now so please don't stress!

Before we all know it it's going to be festive season and while we should all stay motivated we should all be mindful that some excess is inevitable!

Eighty You will get back on it! All things housey are still at my forefront, Natwest are now looking for further info and until we get the complete offer I'm mostly eating my nails and scoffing biscuits!

The gym is good though and great for clearing my mind!

I'm doing well so far today, lots of walking round the museum, quiche and salad for lunch, no snacking.
It may all come apart later, it's date night, and DH is buying dinner.

reastie · 30/10/2012 18:20

Hi all,

eighty well done on the animal biscuits and shred (if you managed to fit it in).

IMST hoping the date night dinner isn't too calorific

Just had a lovely iron rich dinner, made a quinoa salad with watercress, seeds, tofu, cashew nuts, dates and orange segments and then had 2 85% cocoa squares of chocolate (yum!). That doesn't sound too unhealthy, right?! Sadly I snacked a bit too much this morning so am over calories, but not counting too obsessively at the min so trying not to worry too much.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 30/10/2012 18:32

Rrastie that sounds really nice, actually. Might try making it myself.
I've had a coupke of good days so hoping that shows up on the scales

Someone's interested in buying a personalised framed story, I have an illustrator on board, and am doing an advent story in church in December, but no paid bookings yet.
Date night wasn't too bad, fish pie, salad, wine and cheesecake (the cheesecake was most of the calories), 1400 base, but walked most of the day with lots of stair climbing at the museum so under on net cals.
DH suggested marmite for iron, I know it has lots of B vitamins, don't like it myself, but it's worth a look.

InMySpareTime · 31/10/2012 07:26

The Den's on my profile, if you're on the main MN site, hover over my name and you'll get to my pictures.

reastie · 31/10/2012 07:30

IMST excellent marmite suggestion - I love it! Maybe I shall spread it on rice cakes to try to limit calorie damage Hmm .

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 31/10/2012 07:50

reastie, if you don't mind me asking why are you vegetarian and would you be prepared to start eating meat again? I am vegi too and so hope you don't tak that the wrong way, but if I was having a problem getting enough iron, I think I would consider it. You may disagree of course :)
