Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

OP posts:
Viperidae · 08/09/2012 18:24

BIWI RDAs on vitamins and minerals are all set at the level required to prevent deficiency disease so doses of all of them are open to debate. I had a look at the calcium/magnesium/zinc thing and I think the calcium can reduce absorption of the others but it seems that, as long as the dose is reasonable, you should absorb enough of them. If anyone knows better please let me know.

Having said yesterday that I was avoiding trying to make replacements for naughty stuff in my previous diet I did just that today Blush. I woke up starving and really craving carbs (it was a good job we had run out of bread and had nothing unhealthy in!) so I made the cream cheese pancakes somebody mentioned upthread and had them with greek yoghurt and berry compote. The pancakes tasted great and it looked very indulgent although the texture was a bit more omelette-y than pancake-y.

I know you lose weight quicker at the start and when you have a lot to lose (and I do!) but I weighed this morning and have lost another 5lbs, that's 16lb in 3 weeks!!! Smile

HumphreyCobbler · 08/09/2012 18:33

Hello everyone
Nice new thread. I am planning to start a little more exercise as soon as soon as AF disappears. Probably toning and weights rather than running. I may walk up the odd mountain too, I now have FIVE MORNINGS A WEED children free Shock

SharonGless · 08/09/2012 18:40

Weeds? Wink
I will have Fridays to myself so planning my gym sessions now!
I can't bring myself to tell you what I drank last night - all I need to say is fee cocktail bar.
The only good thing is that I felt so rough I haven't been able to eat much today just sipping lots of water.
It was a fab party as evidenced when I woke up with my feet killing me from dancing all night.

Tea is homemade curry with cauliflower rice

Thegoddessblossom · 08/09/2012 19:01

Sharon you groover Grin

Have really tried with water today but think I've only drunk about 3 pints. On the gin now....as you would be with 4 boys under 9 rampaging around your house and garden. I am hiding....

They have had pizza, chicken wings, onion rings and strawberry meringue cake for pudding....drool...I did nick a bit of the cream off the cake... And have had 4 slices of salami to curb nibble cravings...

Absolutely no idea what to have for tea....would normally fall back on an omelette but had a monster one for lunch......

teaandthorazine · 08/09/2012 19:06

Hello all. Feeling fab today - wore a tshirt that I've not worn for years because of muffintop-itis and it looked great Grin. No lumps or bumps where they shouldn't be!

Not eaten much today, busy day and not v hungry in the heat, so three cold sausages and a bit of Total yog so far! But just about to cook pork escalope with gruyere and veg. May have calamari as a starter. There is also cheesecake in the fridge... might have a small bit, see how I feel!

SharonGless · 08/09/2012 19:15

God I can't type either -FREE cocktail bar!

My punishment has been 2hours at a 5yr old birthday party with an "Entertainer" it was grim.

Bloss- good on you with the gin. It's the only way

Tea - its a great feeling isn't it. I wore a maxi last night but got loads of compliments about my weight loss and Dh was v appreciative!

HumphreyCobbler · 08/09/2012 19:32
Blush
hurricanewyn · 08/09/2012 19:41

Happy Birthday to anyone who's had one, and well done to all losers.

Today I've been feeling really snacky but have behaved.

B - scrambled eggs & bacon
D - Lamb curry & rice

Snacks - some cheddar

Had a late breakfast & an early dinner, so no lunch but might have to find something to eat to prevent me falling face first into the DC's crisps & biscuits. There's buggar all in, so I'm not sure what to have...

hurricanewyn · 08/09/2012 19:42

D'oh. No rice, that was the DCs. I had broccoli instead.

NigellasGuest · 08/09/2012 19:51

Tellmelater and Ewan thank you for the ideas/recipes - will be experimenting shortly!

Princess so glad you didn't fast in the end - well done you Smile

NigellasGuest · 08/09/2012 19:54

Dolly I think it was BIWI who linked to the blog by the man who had a load of double cream for breakfast- I can't remember the name of the blog though, perhaps BIWI will come along soon and rejog your memory

Viperidae · 08/09/2012 21:51

hurricane This must be one of the few threads where you can say "well done losers" without getting a Hmm!

I've been really good all day but have just succumbed to an indian meal followed by ice cream Blush. Never mind, I'll be good tomorrow and I'm feeling quite positive about the fact that I don't have to feel too guilty when I slip up, unlike dieting.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/09/2012 21:58

nigellas Prob too late, something along these lines I think! here

dollyxdaydreamer · 08/09/2012 22:18

Thank you nigellas, I wanted to read some more of his stuff when I'd got more time but now I can't remember who/what/where it is! the pints of cream for breakfast sticks in your head though!

jan2011 · 09/09/2012 07:08

hi everyone. hard to believe we are into september now - hope everyone is keeping well... ive been busy with my nearly one year old so not on just as much!
my dad started low carbing about a month ago i think, anyway he weighed yesterday and has lost a stone, and an inch and a half round his waist! he is over the moon and im so proud of him. im still doing good with maintenance, a few slip ups from time to time.
i have less money now and wonder if anyone has ideas about doing this on a budget! i am going to be doing more egg lunches and cheese salads, i also have tuna a lot. i have started eating chicken - where is the cheapest places to buy cheap but quality chicken?

oh and has anyone tried creamfeilds yoghurt from tesco? i think its new and its soo thick and creamy, my fave by far. its only 80p and carbs are 6grams - slightly more but carbs well spent.
and another question....i need bedtime snack ideas. i have been having yoghurt for breakfast and also yoghurt for supper...lol i think i need to take something else. please don't say coffee.. i NEED something to eat before i go to sleep!

hazchem · 09/09/2012 07:24

jan what about almond meal pancake/drop scones. Aldi does ground almond for about £1. (much cheaper the holland and barrett)

Had leaving drinks yesterday so drank beer (too hot for red wine) and ate crisps! arg. planing a healthy few days although no food so will have to get to shops today.

jan2011 · 09/09/2012 07:31

hazchem i never thought of actually baking anything! that would be something i could do to break up the monotony of my day in the house actually! will have to get to the recipie threads again. i used to love scones before lowcarbing, i would say that is the one thing i have missed. haven't missed anything else really. (oh and jam...)

i hope you enjoyed yesterday and im sure you will get right back on track ... i have to go to the shops today too i don't even have milk left, was a good excuse to have cream in this mornings coffee!

jan2011 · 09/09/2012 07:46

oh i don't live near any aldis! i am near: iceland tesco, sainsburies, lidl, asda, marksies. i usually go to tesco. i might have a look in lidl and see if theres any goodcheaper stuff.

EwanHoozami · 09/09/2012 08:03

jan Lidl is amazing for good value meat and fish. I got four very decent salmon fillets for £4 the other day.

EwanHoozami · 09/09/2012 08:12

Sooo, I've had a bit of a ding-dong with DH about the way I'm eating. He's convinced that if I mistakenly eat something too carby then the floodgates behind which all the dietary fat I'm eating will open and I'll turn into a giant whipped cream omelette :(

SharonGless · 09/09/2012 09:01

Welcome back jan, been wondering how you were getting on. Good news a
Bout your dd too.

Lidl is brilliant for everything low carb!
I have started to shop all the time at Aldi or Lidl.
Greek yoghurt is gorgeous and cheap as chips. I have also got their frozen raspberries which are much cheaper and defrost a handful each night to have at work.

B bacon and eggs
Planning BBQ for tea

Revising for me in this glorious weather got an exam in 23 weeks and starting to panic somewhat

Thegoddessblossom · 09/09/2012 09:33

Tea last night ended up being pâté and Camembert in some celery sticks. So that was dairy with every meal which is not ideal.....

Just had 2 bacon, 2 egg and mushrooms, 2 pints of water, a berocca and a cup of tea. Am sloshing somewhat.

Still reading IPD book. Finding it quite good.

Beautiful day here, off for a walk I think this morning and then ds2 has a party so I can drop him off and go and visit with my friend.

Off to google protein shakes for another brekkie option - can anyone recommend?

roofergirl · 09/09/2012 09:33

Breast of lamb is also good cheap bit of meat. I did it inthe slow cooker and it was lovely. Used the juices reduced down as a gravy.

Thegoddessblossom · 09/09/2012 09:35

found these, any flavour suggestions?

AuntieMaggie · 09/09/2012 09:35

This woe has turned me into a lightweight drinker - first drink in over a month last night and I was wasted! This morning I am suffering....

Back to it today :)
