congratulations. spanish chicken sounds lovely. good luck with your fasts this week

Quejica · 09/09/2012 18:28

Hi BIWI,

16 hour fast eh? No breakfast? Remember Dr Briffa told us in his webchat that it was ok, and it really worked for me (current bmi 20.7!) Wink

I'm hijacking to ask you how you cook the basics Sainsbury's breast of lamb? I bought one yesterday and want to cook it in the slow cooker but what do I do to it first, if anything, and what do i put in with it?

Thanks Thanks

Quejica · 09/09/2012 18:30

Jan2011

I use ground almond in place of almond flour.

1 cup ground almond,
1 cup grated cheese,
1 egg,
Smoked paprika (to taste)

Makes lovely cheese scones!

BIWI · 09/09/2012 18:34

I know, Quejica (where have you been?!) - it was Briffa who first got me thinking about the whole fasting thing, and wondering if three meals a day (as per Bootcamp rules) really was so important.

Re the breast of lamb - season it generously all over with sea salt and black pepper, then brown it in a frying pan, and then stick it in the slow cooker. Don't add anything at all. It's fab!

BIWI · 09/09/2012 18:35

What I was thinking re the fasting was exactly that - no breakfast. Lunch - two boiled or poached eggs, and dinner something like tuna mayonnaise with salad.

halfthesize · 09/09/2012 18:49

princess its the Tesco Finest Toulouse-style sausages, they are fab.

EwanHoozami · 09/09/2012 18:52

Congratulations BIWI - and happy birthday you enormous bunch of Virgos!

Low carb marital crisis averted here by me serving up sirloin steak and celeriac chips tonight (He still reckons I'm going to end up the size of a house, I'm just tuning him out..)

I need some decent scales - mine belonged to my mum in the 70's Shock I still remember her sighing over them every morning as the grapefruit and ryvita had no effect. If only she'd known about LC, eh?

jan2011 · 09/09/2012 18:54

thanks for the lovely recipie will be getting the ground almond.

re the fasting i could go without lunch no probs but i love breakfast!

Quejica · 09/09/2012 18:58

BIWI, I've been in Spain all summer and came back 4lbs lighter than when I went. And I had no Wine but lots of lovely gin and 'tonica light' Grin

Thank you for the instructions, I shall cook the lamb this week and report back - and congratulations on the wedding anniversary!

Thegoddessblossom · 09/09/2012 19:26

Brazil nuts. 3 ish grams per 100 grams. So half of a 200g bag is 3 ish grams of carbs. Can that really be true?

Tea is now 2 pork chops, cabbage, leeks and mushroooms. And I have had 2 large glasses of red wine which is really bad. Sigh.

LoopingLizards · 09/09/2012 19:43

Hi everyone
Can I rejoin? I lost 10 lbs already following bootcamp since may and really found this woe great but summer holidays have seen it all go haywire and I'm dreading getting on the scales in the morning! I'm posting really so that I will have to do it and can't chicken out and put it off for another week. I've also given up smoking so have relied rather too heavily on chocolate in the past few weeks. I still miss it tho Blush

I think I'm gonna try fasting too and skip breakfast as t was always the hardest part for me.

vnmum · 09/09/2012 19:47

BIWI Congratulations on your anniversary. Have you been convinced to try the fasting after reading the book?

I have found that I can get to about 3 or 4 in the afternoon without eating anything on a fast day, I then eat something of upto 500 cals either in one meal or two snacks over a couple of hours then don't eat anything after that until the next morning. Because I usually work out fasted I tried doing a full fast on gym days but the exercise made me so hungry I would end up eating more than I meant to so I am now trying fast days on non gym days but still working out fasted the morning of my eating day IYKWIM

Viperidae · 09/09/2012 19:48

I have cooked "Lamb a la BIWI" in the slowcooker today and the bit I've tasted was gorgeous. Sadly we're all still sat around waiting to eat it as the celeriac dauphinoise the IPD book says takes 45 mins has been in the oven a full hour and is still hard! We're all dying for tea and fecking starving!!

tea By coincidence we are getting an Aldi about a mile away too but they're only just starting building so it could be a while

I read recently that the best way to fast is to skip breakfast and lunch but then eat tea as normal. People not eating for a full day are overdoing it as the nights add onto each end of their fast day making it 30+ hours which is too long. Unfortunately I can't remember where I read that.

vnmum · 09/09/2012 19:59

Happy Birthday Half Smile

BIWI · 09/09/2012 20:24

Viperidae - put it in the microwave on high for about 5 minutes - that should help!

vnmum - I haven't read the book yet. Must get round to that.

happy birthday half!

ended up pretty dehydrated today as we went to an outdoor theatre performance and sat in the full sun for three hours. play was fab and we had a great time but I was practically melting the whole time. 2L water and some antipasti in local italian later and i feel a bit more normal

Thegoddessblossom · 09/09/2012 20:35

Happy birthday half!!!

TellMeLater · 09/09/2012 21:02

vnmum I have noticed the same thing - regarding fasting and exercise. Fasting and being premenstral wasn't a success either - I'm going to try it again tomorrow.

Ran 12km this morning, I felt fast and strong....fit actually, fitter than I've ever been, which wouldn't be a big challenge, but it felt good!

Food today

B cream cheese pancakes (I breathe...) with strawberries and a tbsp of Greek yoghurt
L faux falafels (I breathe...), cucumber, cherry toms, Parma ham & a slice of goats cheese
D moussaka (ipd) and steamed broccoli.

Half bottle of red wine.

Happy 22nd Anniversary biwi

Happy birthday Half

Fast day tomorrow and Ripped in 30 for some resistance training.

Thegoddessblossom · 09/09/2012 21:26

Happy anniversary biwi!!! We have 10 years to go to catch you two up!!!

vnmum · 09/09/2012 22:01

Tell Have you done RI30 before? I have it but haven't tried it yet. I wish I could run 12k. Are you in training? I usually do 5k but I have started running in barefoot shoes so have to increase mileage very slowly. I had done max of 7k in trainers but it may be a while before i get up to that again but I haven't been out that often so now DD is at school I might get more chance of getting some runs in.

TellMeLater · 10/09/2012 07:17

vnmum am doing a 10k in a few weeks, I normally would only run 5k or so, despite running 12km i am not a sporty type but I want to up my fitness. I keep reading about the need to do more resistance training - mark scissons mentions it, the Eat Stop Eat guy puts emphasis on it, I keep reading that it's key to good health - I'd rather just run, which I really enjoy when I feel fit but it's not enough.

BareFoot running is something I'm very interested in, I'm currently working on my running form and have read that running barefoot improves this almost immediately. How long will it take before you can run 5k barefoot? Did you get advice with the shoes on how to go about it or how are going about it?

TellMeLater · 10/09/2012 07:21

Meant to add have done Ri30 level 1&2 before, think its better than the shred - in the sense that it's a slicker production, better moves, better explanations, more focus on form and her stretching exercises are more thorough - but it's the same 3-2-1 type of training, so that's where I hope to get the resistance part into my exercise plan.

PrincessSparkle86 · 10/09/2012 08:05

Morning Grin

Are we still weighing in on the spreadsheet.. Ive done it this morning and put it on there.
