Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

OP posts:
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 08/09/2012 09:23

Thank you for the new thread, BIWI! And 9 stone 11 and a quarter is great!

Sybil, yay for size 12 being too big! My size 12 Gap chinos are too big but the day I bought them 2 years ago I tried on about 6 pairs of Gap trousers and they were the only ones that fitted in a 12 and I would have had to have a 14 in any other style which is lovely.

Seamonkey, well done you!

Speaking of the Spreadsheet of Marvellousness, has anyone seen FiddleDeFat recently? She's not posted in ages. I hope she's okay.

Half/BIWI, pregnant women are now being advised to take vit D as well as folic acid, and the HV says that children under 5 who aren't on some sort of formula (which has vit D in it) should be taking vit D drops as well. Which reminds me, I must get some for DD. I suspect that the entire population would benefit from them - must start taking my vits again. I was taking the Tesco pregnancy multi-vit because it was also suitable for nursing mothers, but I just got out of the habit.

I didn't weigh this morning because I'm still basking in the glow of yesterday's 9 stone 12.5. Being under 10 stone feels like a massive stone has rolled off my back. My twin sister is 9 stone and she has tiny boobs and I'm sporting 32FF bf boobs, so I feel like I'm closing in on her. And I can wear my size 10 denim mini! Well, sort of - it's only a tiny bit muffiny around the waist, but it seems to emphasise my mummy tummy, so I'm not going to wear it in public until that's gone.

OrangEyesDoMoreThanSee · 08/09/2012 09:53

Thank you for the new thread BIWI

I am ostensibly working this morning so will be very quick. I am now taking a supplement recommended for women as I am concerned about the Vit D issue - I also want to up my folic acid no reading between the lines people well not yet anyway

Currently feeling fab but have a nasty headache from AF, all other AF symptoms have dissipated since I started this WOE. I have had a banana twice this week and a square or three of very dark chocolate due to me feeling like i have a magnesium deficiency (yelling and screaming at DH)

ANyway - roll on LBD BC - I have even got it in my diary and my next months meal plan starts that day!

RadioSilence · 08/09/2012 10:11

Hello again. I was on the original boot camp thread and reached a weight I was happy with in July so moved to maintenance. Despite some epic fails the day I ate nothing but toffee crisps I am have not put any weight back on in almost 2 months- in fact I have lost another pound. .

I have lost weight on other diets but ALWAYS put it back on when I relaxed the rules.I am so grateful to BIWI and you all for helping me discover a way to eat well and stay slim. Stick with it- it will change your life Smile

OrangEyesDoMoreThanSee · 08/09/2012 10:27

radiosilence (great nn) do you eat lentils/pulses on maintenance? I really miss my vege dishes and curries!

hazchem · 08/09/2012 10:39

The Vit D thing is interesting. We are choosing not to give DS Vit D/multivitamins but I am taking him outside (no suncream) for 20 minutes each day. I've also read that grain eating can affect Vitmin D. In a not good way. So I did wonder if LCers might not need to worry about it.

Also I'm Australian so think my Vit D levels are probably quite high and will be moving back there in ... less then a month.

Finbar 10 pounds is amazing! There are loads of great health benefit and hopefully almost a dress size.

Thanks for the new thread BIWI I second what others of said about finding the bootcamp threads inspiring and useful for weight loss. Lets not talk about choc, red wine and nuts I had last nightGrin

Welcome newcomers!

NigellasGuest · 08/09/2012 11:07

Happy Birthday to anyone who has had a birthday recently - there was a spate of them I know, but I wasn't posting much........... and also to any delurkers and new people a big Welcome!!!

I was having a major urge to swig loads and loads of cream last night. It wasn't going away anytime soon, so I ate a penguin bar. Urge was immediately stopped. But I'm sure this kind of behaviour isn't doing me any favours Blush

all these habits will be officially stopped on 1st October if not before if I can manage it. At least I'm not gaining!

RadioSilence · 08/09/2012 11:13

I have not eaten pulses so far Orange but definitely will in moderation. There is a Delia recipe for vege moussaka that I love and could not give up forever.

I have also started baking using ground almonds ,and also coconut flour which means I can have treats and not feel deprived.

vnmum · 08/09/2012 11:19

Morning all Welcome to all newbies and well done on the losses so far,

All this jeans shopping in smaller sizes is great Smile, well done everyone

BIWI Forgive me, for I have sinned
BBQ last night, Went with all good intentions and did well with the main course, just ate meat, salad, coleslaw and 2 small potatoes from the potato salad. I also had 3 bottles of cider and after the first 2 the puddings came out and my self control was not there. I ended up having 2 slices of homemade cheesecake and some homemade strawberry trifle then got home late and had the munchies so ate some cookies Blush.

oh well, back on the wagon today. DH is making a cooked breakfast as I type and we are having a bbq at home later so food wise I should be ok today.

I think my DC have got plenty of vit D this summer as they have been playing out all day every day for the holidays and wearing shorts and short sleeves all the time. My multivit contains vit D but not sure if you need to supplement with more than the RDA. I know alot of the paleo sites talk about getting enough vit D as part of their WOE. Another thing that has been mentioned on the paleo sites is lack of iodine and how we generally don't get enough and should supplement to ensure normal thyroid function. There is something about low carbing can decrease thyroid function in some people and cause it to go into hybernation mode after a while and that by supplementing with iodine can help prevent this. Kelp tablets are recommended.

BIWI · 08/09/2012 12:14

The RDA levels on vitamins are troubling, though, as I think they are set at pretty low levels. I know (one of my clients makes vits/mins) that the level of RDA for vitamin C is the level you need to have before you get scurvy!

One of the problems with children and vitamin D is that we have become so obsessive about sunburn/skin cancer, that they are always plastered in sunblock when they go outside, so aren't getting the necessary vitamin D, which has resulted in the reappearance of rickets, apparently.

Obviously we need to protect against sunburn, but we evidently need some sun. Sadly in our part of the world we don't get much of it!

Morning all, what a glorious day! It's so hot! Prepping for a BBQ this afternoon, having had delicious mushrooms and Boursin and eggs mashed with butter.

Well done everyone on losses, I didn't weigh today. Still angry about cake. Really must let that go.

I don't take any supplements, so am going to research and see what I think I need to take. Would a good multivitamin do the trick, do you think? Or should I also do separate chromium?

Have lovely weekends all, grab this weather while it is here!

Thegoddessblossom · 08/09/2012 12:57

Afternoon all low carb ladies of wonder. We don't have any men on this thread do we? Wonder if any are lurking.....didn't we have one a while ago?

Anyhoo.....

Back to 9 2 this morning so harrazles.

Breakfast was Greek yog, and 2 celery sticks with pâté, berocca, and tea

Lunch was a large ham and cheese omelette with salad, mushrooms and added mayo.

Snacks have been a coffee with cream and a hunk of cheese.

Really hungry today for some reason although somewhat satiated by that little lot!

Have rediscovered eBay this week, and have sold a dress, a pair of boots and 4 pairs of shoes, making myself £80!!!! Grin

[goes off to search cupboards for more crap to ebay]

TellMeLater · 08/09/2012 13:12

Doing very nicely for food today - woke up starving, so zdh make me wild mushrooms with scrambled egg and then i had a little bit of greek yoghurt with strawbs, been out in the garden all morning and worked up a bit of an appetite and just had the most delicious faux falafel, probably nicer than falafel actually and very easy - even dd loved them! Have BBQ in mind for this evening maybe some lamb kebabs.

BIWI · 08/09/2012 13:27

I've just made the Spanish Chicken, from the IPD cookbook, and have worked out the carbs for it (one of the irritating things about that book is that they aren't given). It comes to 45g carbs for the whole lot, which will be easily enough for 4 people, and might stretch as far as 6.

I'll give the recipe I used on the recipe thread, as I used shallots rather than onion.

NigellasGuest · 08/09/2012 14:52

I have just helped myself to a very large courgette/small marrow type thing that someone had left outside their garden with a "please help yourself" note (actually I left some money because I'm so nice Wink)

Now does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with it other than courgette frittata? No rude answers hahaha

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/09/2012 15:38

My mum used to make us stuffed marrow - was stuffed with mince/meat and she served it with a tomato sauce. I reckon you could do something similar - stuff it with a sort of bolognese and then sprinkle with cheese....?

NigellasGuest · 08/09/2012 15:50

MrsHP - that really sounds good - sorry to be dim but when you say stuffed, does that mean you scoop out all the innards and what do you do with the innards? Thanks

PrincessSparkle86 · 08/09/2012 16:02

Hey all Smile

Lovely day today... Plus my cupboards and frdge freezer have been stocked up.

Im sure ull all be pleased to hear i dcided i wouldnt fast today!

L- smoked salmon fillet with salad.
D- will be mini pork medallions with spinach, mushrooms, cabbage and some mashed carrot and swede

TellMeLater · 08/09/2012 17:03

Link to courgette hummus

dollyxdaydreamer · 08/09/2012 17:27

There was a link to a website or blog upthread somewhere written by a doctor I think, whose diet is very high fat, and he would drink a pint of double cream for breakfast or something - does anyone know what website I mean about and if so would you mind linking to it?

EwanHoozami · 08/09/2012 17:48

Nigella, could you make it into courgette 'spaghetti'? My dad's allotment has a ma-hoo-sive glut of them and keeps bringing them round by the bin-liner full so I 've been meaning to julienne it with a peeler as a base for chicken in spinach and cream sauce or something..

SeamonkeyHasMyMoney · 08/09/2012 18:22

BIWI I promise that now I have delurked I will continue to post. I don't want to get myself in trouble now do I Grin

Today has been good so far...
B - Greek Yoghurt with half a teaspoon or so of honey
L - Chicken salad made with lettuce, cherry toms, cucumber, radish and cheese, with a large dollop of mayo.

And 2lt of water so far.

No idea what to have for dinner though! I'm only just home from work and want something quick and easy....but sensible.
This is where I'd usually make a quick and simple pasta based meal, but no can do now!

SeamonkeyHasMyMoney · 08/09/2012 18:24

Ewan I use my peeler to make thin corgette ribbons and then fry them in butter.
They taste yummy and make quite a nice substitute for spaghetti when cooking bolognese.
