If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Hmm..Muscle never occurred to me because of all the cellulite Blush

Happy shredding Alibaba! Grin

O.M.G.

Month two of Insanity is Not Easy. On the plus side, I burned a whopping 566 calories doing one workout Shock

Lurking I have always been really heavy for my size, iykwim. Partly because I am reasonably broad shouldered, but I think also because I have quite a lot of muscle - it's actually starting to be visible now the fat layers are shedding!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/06/2012 21:50

How do I put Shred into MFP? I have no idea of my calorie burn.

Thanks 7th Smile It felt like more than 220 calories at the time!! Grin

TobyLerone · 26/06/2012 04:34

Hi, Lurking.

Nobody ever believes how much I weigh, either. I'm 5'3" and weigh 11st 6lbs, but am nowhere near as 'fat' as I ought to be, IYSWIM.

Well done, Maryz!

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 26/06/2012 04:38

I think all my 'muscle' is hiding under a layer of stubborn skinny-fat!

bunjies · 26/06/2012 09:02

To those who PM'd me about the lifting book - I've sent you a msg about the file size. It's 7Mb(!) so let me know if you still want me to send it. Don't want it clogging up your email accounts!"

Same here Lurking. I am 5'1" and weigh 10st 7lbs (well last time I looked) but I asked dh to hide the sclaes so I am SAFTFBS! I do have an enormous gut though which makes me look 6m pregnant all the time as I'm not really massive elsewhere. It just looks so wrong . Really considering lipo to get rid. If I had a spare £5k I would so do it.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/06/2012 09:38

Bunjies - if you have a mummy tummy like that then your muscles may have separated. Mine had, and I have been doing the exercises from Julie Tuplar's book for about 8 months and it is so much better.

Feel loads better this morning, back on an even keel.

Hopefully · 26/06/2012 10:00

I have a weird dent in the middle of my abs, just above my belly button, where I assume my muscles have never knitted back together, despite physio after DS2's birth for it. Doesn't cause me any bother at all, but when I do sit ups there's a little concave bit that I can stick my fingers into.

Ali I figure with things like circuit training they feel harder than straightforward cardio because they're building muscle, so the long term calorie burn is a hell of a lot more than just those 220 calories, iykwim.

I am a daily weigher - it doesn't bother me in the least when I fluctuate because I'm so used to it. I always find it interesting that when i do a really hard workout I weight at least 1lb more than next day from all the water retained for muscle repair etc.

ShirleyKnot · 26/06/2012 10:30

Am dying of a summer cold so not managing to eat up much past my BMR. I wonder how many calories there are in night nurse.

Excellent result for Maryz - well done.

Poor Shirl :(

quirkychick · 26/06/2012 13:37

Shirl, if you are ill then you probably aren't using much more than your bmr Wink.

A question about protein shakes, I should take them after weights but should I take them after cardio? Should I take them anyway to up protein macros?

Ginger oatcakes with cashew butter is delicious.

ShirleyKnot · 26/06/2012 15:23

You can drink them whenever! I read that WHEN you have them isn't that important in the grand scheme of things.

MinnieBar · 26/06/2012 16:15

I have a rather sizeable tummy too. In fact it's so flabby I find it hard to tell if my muscles are still separated as I can't really feel them through the fat (nice).

Feeling stupid and tired today. Got stressed about some tenants I have, got back too late to eat a proper lunch so just snacked on crisps and biscuits Blush, so now I'm suffering the horrendous crash afterwards and kicking myself for not forcing myself to eat something better. And now I'm not really hungry, just feeling like I could lay down right now and fall asleep... no chance with all three DCs at home

MinnieBar · 26/06/2012 16:16

Sorry, also meant to say - hope you feel better soon Shirl.

quirkychick · 26/06/2012 16:35

Thanks, Shirl. Hope you feel better soon. Dd2 has a summer cold too and is grumpy & 2.5.

I waiting for my mega consignment from myprotein to arrive. Years ago I did the Leslie Kenton X Factor (as in Syndrome X/insulin resistance not the tv show) and she recommended Solgar Whey to Go powder. Also she talked about weights too. I might dig out my copy...

quirkychick · 26/06/2012 16:37

Minnie eat something with protein to help give you energy for longer eg. nuts, cottage cheese, houmous to stop the sugar spike.

HearMyRoar · 26/06/2012 20:35

Hope you're feeling better Shirl :)

I have completly gone off the rails today. DD unexpectedly fell asleep on me and I was too scared to move her as she has been ill and so napping terribly. Unfortunatly she then sleep for 3 hours so I was left sitting there with no food or drink and of course I crashed terribly and stuffed myself with oat cakes as soon as she woke up. Whoops...

Still, DP came up to me today said 'gosh, you have lost weight haven't you!'. He sounded very surprised about it :o

Notanexcitingname · 26/06/2012 21:02

Lurking, if you do ever feel the need to get scales again, get ones which do your body fat %.

On the subject, I've lost another 3 lbs. Allegedly. I'm getting concerned that I'm losing all this water. I know its water since my body fat % has gone up, and water down. Do I need to worry? change my calories? I'm pretty much hitting my daily target now, although i need to re jig when I eat them. I've been spending much of the morning hungry, then needing to eat extra in the evening. Followed the advice upthread about protein for breakfast today, and it made a big difference :). I'm pretty rubbish in the mornings, and not really keen on breakfast, but have been making myself.

I'm very pleasantly suprised how much more energy I've had, and I had my first "you're looking trim" comment (I'm not, it's just an improvement on last year Wink).

I don;'t think nightnurse has many calories, but it is good stuff Wink

quirkychick · 26/06/2012 21:48

Notanexcitingname which scales have you got and how do they measure body fat?

I find I'm eating a 2 course breakfast of half when I first get up (often half a fridge porridge) and later with the dcs. That seems to give me enough to last till lunch.

TobyLerone · 27/06/2012 06:54

How do they know how much body fat you have?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/06/2012 10:12

Shirl I hope you're feeling better this morning.

Toby - I've got scales that measure body fat. They have a handle that you hold like the machines in the gym and it does it somehow with electricity I think

You can use them just as normal scales as well - I only do the fat/water/muscle measuring once a month because it can fluctuate quite a lot from one day to another - good to get a general idea though.

quirky - I do that, eat half my fridge porridge and then the rest after I've dropped DS1 at preschool or mid-morning.

TobyLerone · 27/06/2012 10:33

Fancy!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 27/06/2012 10:51

From here.

Body fat scales use a technique called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis... or BIA for short. Very simply...

A small and completely harmless electrical current is passed through your body. The electrical current passes more quickly through fat free tissue like muscle than it does through fat or bone tissue.

Very interesting, and now sadly ANOTHER gadget I want! Blush

wherearemysocks do you like your fitbit? I'm seriously considering getting one, and it's payday tomorrow! Grin Is it easy to use? And do you find it gets in the way?
