If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Yes I am also thinking about a fitbit...

quirkychick · 27/06/2012 11:42

Great minds alibabaa ...

Thanks for the info on scales. Dp wants to get some more as he thinks ours are inaccurate. Gadgets like body fat might be very appealing Wink.

Notanexcitingname · 27/06/2012 11:52

Thanks MrsMango biscuit :), I was just looking for a link, came back and you'd done my work for me :). The BIA method has its inaccuracies, namely that the results vary with how hydrated you are. If you're eating well and drinking a good amount of ater, also measure at the same time of day, then that shouldn't be too much of a problem for a compari.tive measure.

wherearemysocks · 27/06/2012 17:03

Fitbit very easy to use. To set it up you just plug it in to the computer and go to fitbit.com and put in your height weight etc and your goals. Then you just wear it on you waistband and off you go. It also syncs up with MFP so logs your exercise for you. I can't remember exactly how I did that but I am really not computer savvy at all and I managed it easy enough, it prompts you to do it I think.

I'd recommend it definitely.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 27/06/2012 17:26

Oh good, I'm glad you said that as I've just won an auction for one on ebay. :)
Let's just hope it turns up. Hmm

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 27/06/2012 17:32

I was thinking of getting a fitbit, but I did my usual thi g of reading the 1star reviews on Amazon, and a lot of people seemed to be complaing that it logged time on the car as burning calories! I wish! Does that happen with yours, WMS, or is it maybe an aberration in an odd few?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/06/2012 17:32

MrsMango - do you mind me asking how much it was? I've only seen them online for about £75, which I am baulking at rather despite having spent that much on lovely Elemis things last week

wherearemysocks · 27/06/2012 17:41

I don't drive. But next time I am on the bus I will check.

wherearemysocks · 27/06/2012 17:49

shotgun I think it counts the fact that you still burn cals when resting. For instance mine currently reads that I've burnt about 2400 but it has only allowed for 800 on MFP. So for example I have my MFP goal cals set at 1200, my fitbit has given me an extra 800 odd, so my calorie allowance for the day is 2000.

I have done 2 school runs of just over a mile each way, so about 4.5 miles walked plus a shred so an extra 800 is about right.

It also tells me I have climbed 36 flights of stairs today and travelled 7.92 miles.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 27/06/2012 17:51

Ali - £56 total. I've been checking for them every few days and watching the cheap ones.

Shotgun, I don't drive so not a problem here :)

amalur · 27/06/2012 23:32

HI everyone, I am just checking in, I was avoiding the thread and mfp because I knew I wasn't doing it right Blush.

I'm too tired to type more but I just wanted to get myself going again. Will report more tomorrow.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/06/2012 23:47

Thanks MrsMango - I think I will wait, the oven appears to have broken so I need to see how much that is going to cost before I start spending on other random things!

hopefully I saw an advert for insanity this morning - OMG are you really doing that!? Made me exhausted just looking at it. Quite a funny advert though Grin
I am fairly sure that I couldn't do most of the exercises.

jchocchip · 28/06/2012 06:38

lurking and reading... marks place

Hopefully · 28/06/2012 07:38

Ali I am, and it is insane Grin. I can do most of the moves, but I in no way keep up with the DVD people. I am fitter than I think I've ever been in my life though. It's lovely going for a morning run and enjoying the sun/view/rain/whatever instead of just suffering lots.

Still not quite back below the 10st mark though, which I hit (very briefly) before holidays last month.

Made wholemeal oat pancakes this morning from the master your metabolism cookbook. Quite a lot of calories (I had 1.5 servings, so about 500 cals), but incredibly filling, doubt I'll need a morning snack

ShirleyKnot · 28/06/2012 09:38

Good morning all.

Ugh, still feeling really rough and have not been logging my food as it's POINTLESS as all I've wanted to eat is easy crisps and sandwiches and chocolate.

BUT, last night I woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep until 4. I haven't had a night like that for AGES and then I was having completely barmy (and upsetting) dreams and I was TMI ALERT trumping the most foul trumps in the history of trumpets. I think it's a combination of not being well - chest infection is settling in - so not exercising and not eating well so the balance in my poor old body is effed.

I'm clambering gingerly back on the wagon, it's stupid trying to get better by eating crap, and even though I'm knackered and feel dreadful I need to cook some proper decent food and get myself well ASAP.

Poor Shirl :(

I know what you mean about getting off the wagon, though. It's easy to do, especially if you've been ill. I've been the same this week, and I'm definitely feeling worse for it. We're all over the place at the moment, with end of term activities and DP moving in, so it's hard to know what to cook when I don't know where everyone will be from one minute to the next. That's my excuse, at least!

This weekend I will shop properly and get back on it. I hope you feel better soon.

ShirleyKnot · 28/06/2012 09:53

I hope YOU feel better - how's your tum doing chick?

Are you super excited about the boytoy moving in?

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 28/06/2012 09:59

Aw, thanks. I'm ok. Back on the meds now, so it's settled down a bit. Stupid gut rot!

I'm a bit excited, but tbh he's been at mine more than he's been at his for a very long time, so it won't make that much difference. And it's about time! I'm more excited because we've decided that I'm going to give up work and do up my house so that we can sell it and buy one together. So no more shitty job for me! I'm handing in my notice on Monday :o:o

ShirleyKnot · 28/06/2012 10:03

Oh. My. God.

So jealous. Envy

I'm thinking I might have to get ANOTHER job to pay for my fucking dental work (7.5K paid already, just been told I need a brace [40 next year FFS] which is £1,700.) Sad

God Damn motherfuckers. And that's swearing.

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 28/06/2012 10:15

Oh crap. The brace is optional, though? So perhaps you could save up and do it in a year or so (or take out a credit card with a really good introductory rate, purely to put this on and spread the cost). That is some God Damn Motherfucking expensive dental work right there!

ShirleyKnot · 28/06/2012 11:02

It is optional - I'm going to save up for a year and have it done for my 40th. HAHAHA!

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/06/2012 17:20

God Shirley that is a nightmare! Teeth are so bloody expensive.

Toby - eek how exciting! Grin

I have done much better today, and therefore I'm not experiencing at 5pm sugar-crash.

My sodding oven is broken though, which has scuppered all the available dinner options. So I had to go and shop even though the shopping is for the week is being delivered in the morning, and now the freezer is full of the things we were supposed to eat last night and today. A minor issue in the scheme of things, but bloody irritating all the same.

vezzie · 29/06/2012 13:25

Can I ask advice from all you good-food-gurus?
I seem to have got myself into a position where I am eating 3 meals a day standing up or at my desk. I would really like to have one meal at home at the table but I leave the house at 7.25 am and don't feel like it, and get home at 7.30 and go straight into bath time etc. By 8.30 I am starving and really don't feel like cooking.
Anyway this all leads to, ahem, poor food choices.
Sometimes I stuff some ham in a roll and eat it on the train, and call that dinner, but doing that repeatedly makes me feel sad and unloved and like a disgusting savage.
I just want to sit down and eat off a plate with salad and a knife and fork. Failing that, how would you suggest I can eat nicely (good good in a reasonably civilised way that makes me feel like a member of the human race)? I can peel babybels etc anywhere but emotionally that is not good and over time it just makes me eat more.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/06/2012 14:11

vezzie have a look on here for the fridge porridge recipes. DH takes one with him in the morning and eats it on the train so that he gets off to a good start with food.
For dinner - can you batch cook things like bolognaise, casseroles etc so that when you come in you can stick something in the oven, then once you've done bath time etc you just need to do some pasta - or just shove a jacket potato in the oven when you put the meal in to heat?
The alternative is to plan very quick meals. Stir-fry, pan-fried fish with couscous, antipasti, eggs/beans on toast?

HearMyRoar · 29/06/2012 14:42

Vezzie, I would second batch cooking. You could get a slow cooker and batch cook chilli and curry or stews over the weekend. If you use the slow cooker then it really doesn't take much of your day and you can still go out and do stuff while it is cooking.

Also meal plan for the week. I find this really helped as it stops the standing in front of the fridge when you are really hungry wondering what on earth to cook and finally just stuffing your face with ham and crisps (well, that's what would happen to me anyway Blush ). If you know exactly what you are eating then you can make sure you have everything ready and you don't need to make any decisions or worry about not having some vital ingredient.
