muscle weighs more than fat Albelino and am sure you'll be building up muscle with Shred. Give it some time - it can't not be working iyswim. I think it took me about 4 weeks to really see any difference. I don't have any scales so don't know about weight (hand in sand tactic!!) but my waist in particular felt trimmer and my upper arms were much more toned. Keep going - am sure it IS working!

notyummy · 07/03/2012 19:28

Just done BFBM after being reminded by reading this thread that I haven't done it for ages. Was good, but kept on getting interrupted - annoying!!

Able - would second Chociolates point and also caution to be very conscious of what you eat as very easy (as I do..) to think you are being careful when you are not noting everything down. Shred is only about 200/240 cals (depending on your size) so not much really. But it WILL make a difference. Good luck!

threestepsforward · 07/03/2012 19:33

Chocshoes I feel your pain, it's a haaard circuit!

Hi Albelino, don't despair! Try not to go by weight for the moment, if at all possible, and give the measurements some more time. I remember it took me a while to notice improvements and I went through a same despondent stage where I wondered if it was worth pushing on (I felt bigger actually before I saw the positive changes). Like Chocshoes says, don't give up it really will be worth it Smile

My bum and thighs hurt Grin I felt the ache set in pretty soon after finishing the workout!

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/03/2012 20:17

Just finished L2 of 6W6P - I really like it, a lot more cardio-ey than L1 and like the moves, reminds me of a really hard-core aerobics class I used to go to.

I think that is my current favourite - either that or NMTZ.

I nearly broke my neck though on the mogul jumps - the cat came up sniffing me, wondering what I was up to, and I had to swerve to avoiding kicking the cat across the room!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/03/2012 20:18

albelino don't give up, I didn't notice I difference for ages and then one day, when wearing leggings, noticed that my legs and bum looked really toned.

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 07/03/2012 20:34

I have just started 30DS. I have done day 3 today, but I am really busy for the next couple of days so might not be able to fit it in.

My calf muscles are really hurting tonight. I had to strap one up half way through today. I'm not sure I'm doing all the exercises correctly, my legs seem to be aching but not much else!

My big disappointment is that my pelvic floor can't cope with the jumping exercises. I do pelvic floor exercises every day but they're obviously not working. I think jumping jacks are just too much but it makes me feel really really rubbish. Sad

I need to keep going as I would so love to have a waist and a flatter stomach, I was going to do the couch to 5k but I think my pelvic floor would struggle with that too. I don't do --any- much other exercise apart from dog walking and I can't say I'm really enjoying it.

You all sound SO fit and enthusiastic!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/03/2012 20:38

I wasn't so fit when I started this caper - I used to hate jumping jacks as well! I can't remember what all the L1 cardio circuits are, but instead of jumpoing jacks replace it with something else for the minute - perhaps the boxing punches - it is still cardio and keeps your heart rate up.

The early days are hard, but keep at it and you will really notice the difference.

chocolateshoes · 07/03/2012 21:34

don't give up Fruits - its early days...this thread will keep you going!

Arcadie · 07/03/2012 22:46

Waved pom poms and shouts encouragements at Albelino & Fruits - I'm coming to the end of the 30 day shred (albeit spaced over about 50 days) and have noticed BIG results but they didn't come at first at all. I too have a few Pelvic floor moments - I often have to go for a wee half way through just to be on the safe side. It comes to something when you have as many accidents a day as your 4 y o daughter..... Blush

Albelino · 08/03/2012 09:09

Thanks everyone.I'm inspired to keep going and this thread will help me tackle those tough days.
I'm reading mixed things about whether to do 30ds every day or have some rest days for better results.Opinions please.
Also when do you move up to the next level?I can do level 2 without stopping but it's still hell and I am gritting my teeth especially in those cardio plank torture positions. No muscle aches for a few days though.Yay!
I looked at level 3 and it looks scary. Also just bought 6w6p,ripped and killer B&T to keep up the madly insane torture, sorry I meant good work!!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 08/03/2012 09:17

TBH I find L3 shred easier than L2 - I have no idea why, but for me it is not as challenging. It is still a cracking workout.

I have one rest day a week from workouts, but go for a long walk on that day instead.

I move up a level when I get a bit bored more than anything.

VenetiaLanyon · 08/03/2012 10:14

Keep going Fruits; if you possibly can do it over the next 2 days then I would, as the aches will go a lot quicker.

Albelino I have one day off a week now, but started by doing the shred for 30 days on the trot. She does keep saying "See you tomorrow" in the Shred but seems to recommend at least one day off a week in most of the other workouts.

Getorf agree re L3 of Shred; much better than all the horrible chair squat-type things in L2, and I find travelling push-ups easier than normal push-ups. However definitely feeling it (and sweating profusely) for the renegade rows in L3 and the rock stars.

Did L2 Killer today; most difficult Jillian I've done in a while; I'm not very good at the moves with several elements, as I get confused and fall over a lot... Hmm

Arcadie · 08/03/2012 12:13

Venetia you know she keeps saying "see you tomorrow" at the end of each time you work out because it's a DVD. Wink

gingercat12 · 08/03/2012 12:31

Just started to understand what Jillian means when she says that the exercise when you do side squat and raise leg hurts. I did not know about all those muscles in my bum Shock

Fruitshoots I have the same problem as you. I religously do the Kegel-exercises 2-3 times a day, and they make a huge difference.

Ripped L2 reminds me of the Shred L2. Did I not like that. Definitely getting better though.

How long are you supposed to do Killer Buns L1? I only do them at the weekend, so I am noweher near moving up yet.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 08/03/2012 12:45

I don't like Ripped as much as the other DVds I have got. I love Jillian and her shoutiness but she is a bit too shouty for me in that one.

Plus I am a bit Hmm at some of the exercises - the climbing up your leg sit up, and the table top things. I don't think they are much of a challenge.

It is still far better than any other DVD I have used though. I have got a Tracey Anderson DVD and put it on for the first time the other night. It was useless - really poorly thought out and dull as bricks.

pigleychez · 08/03/2012 12:51

I attempted level 3 of the 30ds yesterday and didn't find it too bad. Still knackering though!
Those Superman moves are a killer but I did surprise myself at how well I did at them.

Albelino- My shred hasn't been over consecutive days. Ive had the odd day off for either being too knackered or busy. I also have a 'day off' on a thursday as I do a Zumba class anyway.

threestepsforward · 08/03/2012 13:51

Snap Pigleychez! I just did L3 Shred. I haven't done it for what feels like ages and really enjoyed it. Didn't find the rockstars nearly as puffy as in the past - I reckon she's toughened me up with later DVDs Grin

Venetia L2 Killer is bloomin' hard isn't it? So much stuff on one leg + hopping about the place. I really enjoyed L3 yesterday too. And am definitely feeling it today.

Albelino, I think it's a good plan to have at least 1 day rest a week. I often don't get the chance to do anything over weekends but it seems to work out okay.

Welcome Fruit!! Keep at it and you will be reaping the rewards Smile

OP posts:
Arcadie · 08/03/2012 14:18

3steps that's encouraging on the rockstars. Good to know that there's progression aftr the shred.

Pigley see those superman ones perplex me. She keeps shouting about how hard they are, and I don't find them bad at all (NB this is NOT because I am uber fitness goddess - press ups still make me want to weep) I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong muscle group or not pulling far enough up... but as i never do the shred in company it's hard to know!

threestepsforward · 08/03/2012 14:24

Arcadie, I think the higher you can raise yourself the harder they will be. I always adjust my legs just to the right width apart for me to really feel it in my bum when I do them too.

Happypiglet · 08/03/2012 14:49

Gosh everyone is doing so well!
Hi newbies... Please keep going as it does get easier.. And in my opinion slightly addictive when you do start seeing some changes but it does take a while. I have started to develop those 'dents in the side of my butt' as Jillian delightfully calls them. I haven't shifted all the fat from round my hips but it appears to be moving northwards as my bum muscles improve... Bit odd!!!
Done L1 Ripped today...twas quite hard but I find anything hard the day after I do NMTZ as I always ache badly.
I aim for five sessions a week which is realistic for me and my lifestyle. And i try to make two of those the longer work outs of BFBM and NMTZ. So tomorrow is my last session of this week- ripped again I think!
My week starts on a Saturday and this weekend is manic so I will have to work out every week day next week which will be a toughie!

Happypiglet · 08/03/2012 14:50

Ps I find the leg part of Superman's ok but struggle to get my chest off the floor.... Prob due to my pronounced lower back arch again... I do try but often it hurts my lower back so I just do the leg bits

skirmish · 08/03/2012 15:25

Just popping in to ask for advice please Smile

How long has it been before noticing any results? Currently doing a combo of shred and killer (and aiming to add ripped in to)- not aiming to lose any weight but rather tone everything up, esp lower body. Have been at it 5/6 x a week, combined with min 4 miles walking per day and cannot see any difference Sad. Do I need to decrease calorie intake too?

Hoping you wise ladies can help.

Albelino · 09/03/2012 07:57

Morning all. Success! I managed level 2 30ds at full pelt and actually enjoyed it. Lost about 3 litres of fluid( ie sweat) as well so will spend the rest of the day rehydrating.
How do other JM DVDs compare to levels of 30ds as trying to decide which one to do once I'm completely shredded?

notyummy · 09/03/2012 08:48

Skirmish - I am sure you will see results, although diet is an important part. Having said that, you have said you don't actually want to lose weight, so in that case I think it will just take a bit longer. Although when I started doing the JM stuff ages ago I didn't need to lose weight, I did drop 5/6 lbs through cutting out a lot of processed carbs, and that made a difference to my lower body (although if I am honest, i would still like a smaller bottom Wink)

Well done Abelino!

Rare day off work today for DH, and Friday is my day off (I do 4 days) so we are going to do L3 Shred and L4 Ripped whilst DD at school. NMTZ before breakfast tomorrow morning as we have friends arriving for the weekend later in the morning.

CHST · 09/03/2012 13:23

Abelino, I have Banish fat, boost metabolism and it is tough I'm not gonna lie...mainly due to 7 circuits instead of 3. I did that a few times and then moved on to ripped...think it is a nice progression and sticking with the shorter workout theme. Not sure which others are also short.

Skirmish I would give it time, especially as you want to tone up and not lose weight...not sure a calorie deficit is the way to go...maybe try to find small changes you could make longer term if it applies..less snacking, less sugar etc etc. I am not looking to lose shed loads of weight, a little bit of course but I know the best way to do that is slowly and surely instead of once.

Glad everyone seems to be doing so well!

DS unfortunately came down with chickenpox on wednesday. Wednesday is my rest day but I ended up taking a rest thursday too as I was just physically tired from looking after him. Did level 4 of ripped today for the first time and harder than it looks! Hate the superman and press and the squat and lifts...had to grit my teeth through those. Also found the all the way throughs at the end really challenging.

Arcadie, I found some of the moves in ripped not too bad and wondered if I was doing them wrong, then increased the range of motion and that's where I was going wrong.....
