Hi all.

Arcadie - it is def worth getting a range of weights and swapping them so you are consistently pushing yourself for each exercise. I don't think there is anyone on here that uses 5kg for everything - we swap round, so the squat and row/pull back thingy in L2 Shred for example, I struggle to finish with 3kg (and the v raises) but the squat and press in L3 I can do with 7KG. If you ae currently working at 1.5, it might be worth getting some 3kg and using for a few things.

Press-ups I am actually relatively good at I think, but I have been doing for them for years (14!) - including a 7 year stint in the military. LOTS of press-ups there......

Happypiglet · 28/02/2012 17:12

World gone crazy I LOVE NMTZ I think it is my favourite I always ache after! That is on my menu for tomorrow after school drop off...
Arcadie push through the ache! It does get better. I use 2kgs for everything except dead lifts and bicep curls so don't worry. Most of us faint at 5 kgs too!!
Thanks for tip on Horizon will give that a look...

knottyhair · 28/02/2012 17:29

I just need to clarify that I am nowhere near notyummy's ability! I can only use 5kg for any deadlift type moves and some of the bicep curl stuff. All the rest is 3kg max, and I have to drop down to 2kg for some of the chair squat fly type things and have recently discovered I can only do the superman with weights if I use 1.5kg. So it really does all depend on the type of move.

foreverondiet · 28/02/2012 22:49

I am doing RI30, currently on week 2 but I don't do every day as also go to gym! Have done week 2 several times (over 10?) probably time to move to week 3. Do hard versions of everything and manage 4kg weights for many of the exercises. Use 2kg for the harder exercises.

re: press ups - down to practise. Do a few (even 1 or 2) several (10?) times a day eg waiting for kettle to boil. I could never do any, now can do whole minute (50!). It takes time.

rosalux · 29/02/2012 09:12

Hello everyone. I've recently finished 30DS and was just beginning RI30 (did it twice, first with 2kg and then with 3kg) when I was struck by the evil cold/flu going around. Boo. Hope to start again on Monday after a few days recovery, as I really miss it (crazy I know). I did try 6W6P but didn't feel the burn in the same way and also it's longer than the 30mins I have first thing whilst DP is dealing with DS. I will probably have another go after RI30, as my tummy has always been my trouble area (and having DS has not altered this!). I'm also doing a hula hoop class once a week, which is super fun and supposedly very good for your abs as well. Fingers crossed I'll be posting again soon...

VenetiaLanyon · 29/02/2012 09:41

Hmmm, so do we think that it's better to do only 3 good push ups, or to do 15 ones which only go part way down, but which are still difficult? Am currently doing the latter.

Tried Killer Buns today, and waiting to see if I ache tomorrow in all the right places before I pass a verdict....

Love the sound of the hula hoop class, rosalux; how many do you get to eat? Wink

knottyhair · 29/02/2012 10:21

Venetia Grin at hula hoop gag. I like to put one on each finger.
Hi rosalux, hope you feel better soon and can get going again.
Did Killer L2 again this morning and really enjoyed it. But utterly useless at one-legged burpees Blush, made myself laugh though. Forever, I may try your tip of practising press ups at odd points during the day. Good idea!

ThePaxton · 29/02/2012 12:43

Hi. threesteps Horizon was very interesting. One thing I did take from it was if you keep moving all day it really ups the calories you burn. The HIT exercise was interesting, is that just similar to what we do in Jillian anyway? Maybe not as intense, although I did push myself this morning! L2 Ripped done again. Serving lunges are so hard. rodalux it a pain when you get going and then have to stop with illness. Hope you feel better venetia not sure about the press ups, I do as many as I can and then go down on knees.

Arcadie · 29/02/2012 14:53

Thanks all for your advice.

Advice 1:
Ploughed through the pain and feel better for it. Just tried 30DShred level 3 again and it's definitely getting easier.

Advice 2:
Am doing the "clean & squat"? (is that the right phrase) with a 3.5kg which feels like more of a challenge. Might leave it a couple more days before I do the shadow boxing with that weight though!

Advice 3:

Pikes and travlling push ups are being done with bent leg. BAck feels much happier. Will try without bent legs in a few more days but may have to resign self to not having great core muscles as yet and needing to work them a lot more.

Next piece of advice sought - those of you who have NMTZ - does she focus on EVERY part of the body or is it the traditional legs bums and tums? I'd like something that really works my abs clearly - but it's my arms I'd really like toning up- does she do much for the arms?

Jacksterbear · 29/02/2012 15:04

Arcadie re nmtz - oh hell yes she works your arms!

threestepsforward · 29/02/2012 17:57

Evenin' all!

Horizon was really interesting wasn't it? Loved the guy, is he a GP? He had a very infectious laugh! There was stuff you probably wouldn't want to know: you may have a gene that renders cardio exercise futile! The short high-intensity stuff was really interesting. He did 12 mins high intensity over a month, and while it doesn't necessarily help weight loss, it improved his insulin sensitivity? Basically the time it took for his body to break down the sugar in a v sugary drink was improved by a third. What was also a bit scary was although you may not look 'fat', it may be that the fat is sitting around your organs rather than under the skin, which was the case for this guy. At that point I started thinking ignorance was probably bliss!

For some odd reason, I didn't finish up Ripped today, I will do it tomorrow. I can't possibly get to day 29 and give up, can I? I did do L1 of Killer though. I can predict that tomorrow I will be thinking 'OWwwwww'!!

Have a good evening all Smile

OP posts:
threestepsforward · 29/02/2012 18:07

Sorry, just reading that back, I don't want to put anyone off exercising! I mean't that the gene might predict that you cannot improve in terms of cardio fitness. So the benefits of cardio may still be there, but you may not necessarily get any better.

And now I've typed that...that sounds just like me! Grin

notyummy · 29/02/2012 18:52

I can't help thinking that there are undoubtedly health benefits in the 12 minutes a month approach, as they were clinically proven, but it isn't going to give you a lean sculpted physique. That said, one of the things you need to be aware of when doing 'hard' exercise like Jillian is the temptation to just sit on the couch (or equivalent) for the rest of the day because you feel like you have worked so hard. I think the secret is moving about as much as possible AND sculpting your body and becoming stronger through exercise.

Oh- I have seen the Horizon presenter before and have a slightly odd crush on him....

Happypiglet · 29/02/2012 19:53

Ooo you Killer people what was it like? Was it truly awful? I really want to give it a go but when I watched it through it looked really hard!
Re NMTZ there is loads of arm work..especially like the triceps which she doesn't do much of in Shred. But it is always my butt and thighs that ache after it... Maybe I need to up the weights I use on the arm bits..it's just that when they are combined with the leg work going up weights also makes the quad bits that much harder and my legs are screaming!
Thought the Horizon was interesting... And I agree that 12 mins a month won't give you a hot body! My scales give a visceral fat rating but i do not know how accurate they are...
I think keeping active in that gentle way and being a fidget helps keep the weight off.. But I have always thought that. My DS2 never sits still and he is a rake despite eating like a horse!
Not yummy I agree re sofa thing and i also suffer with the allowing myself to eat more biscuits thing... Maybe that is just me tho!

threestepsforward · 29/02/2012 20:30

I really enjoyed it happypiglet! I don't think you'd find it unmanageable at all. I felt really nicely worked out by the end. I do think I'll be feeling it in the 'boody' tomorrow! I did L1 and am keen to see what's in L2 after I've finally managed to finish Ripped tomorrow...

Re the weights, do you have a selection that you can chop and change with? That way you could up them for some exercises in you wanted to.

Very true about falling into a couch potato heap after doing JM or similar. I spend most of my working day on my backside but luckily I cycle, not drive, and walk the dog every day. Mind you, dog is now 12 so our walks our getting slower...

notyummy, actually I can see why you might have a crush on him! I don't think I'd seen him on anything before last night, but he's rather lovely!

Its not just you Happy! My cake habit is definitely my 'reward' for exercise being healthy. I guess if I had an utterly balanced view of diet and exercise I wouldn' t see it like that, but - hey - nobodys perfect Grin. Scone and a piece of tiffin so far today Blush. But salad, soup and porridge as 3 meals so hopefully overall not ridiculous...

three steps I have some bad days food wise too!

Did level 3 ripped for the first time today. You know I practised those duck walks before and thought they aren't too bad....until you actually do the dvd and the bear crawl before...ow ow ow! And then the cardio with the squat jacks. Circuit 2 I found not too bad but my arms on the last circuit cries I have never worked my triceps like that before. I hope it gets better as the week progresses.

notyummy · 01/03/2012 12:12

Oh yes - that cardio with squat jacks is AWFUL. Nothing to do with cardio element, which I don't find hard....but the pain in my thighs!! I had to stand up slightly to complete them.

knottyhair · 01/03/2012 12:44

Morning! Feeling a bit rough here today - woke up with a sore throat & headache so no Jillian Sad. Hopefully feel better in a couple of days. And totally agree about that cardio section on L3 Ripped! Food-wise have been trying to trough down pineapple & oranges to ward off any coldy thing that maybe developing but have also had spicy chicken soup and a bag of Maltesers.

Happypiglet · 01/03/2012 15:03

Well did not try Killer but stuck to L1 Ripped... I found it harder than usual but I think it s because I am suffering from NMTZ yesterday!
Toasted teacke this morning- well i was out with a friend and it would have been rude not to....
L3 seems to explode in a carnival of animals!! Ducks and bears and someone mentioned crows somewhere else!

threestepsforward · 01/03/2012 16:09

There's talk of dog-peeing in Killer L1 Happypiglet! Well done pushing through today even though you ached Smile

Aw Knotty, poor you - you seem to be in the wars at the mo. Hope you feel better soon...

Well done on L3 CHST!! The triceps beating is punishing isn't it?

Psyching myself up to finish Ripped today...will do it in a minute Grin

Planning to do Killer L2 tomorrow so will let you know how I get on...

Hope everyone's doing okay Smile

VenetiaLanyon · 01/03/2012 16:43

Threesteps, we're still tracking each other - did day 2 Killer L1 today, and definitely feeling it in the backside. Really enjoyed it, though, which worried me. All apart from the move where you're pushing up from your arms on the side - absolutely impossible...

I've actually begun looking forward to exercise some days, and welcoming the muscle ache, which has never happened before - Jillian, what have you done to me...?Grin

Happy ripping and shredding, all Smile

gingercat12 · 02/03/2012 09:11

Hello!

I am back, too. Just about to finish RI30 L1. If you see a mad and overweight woman on Youtube attempting RI30 with imaginary weights at the softplay in Brussels airport, that is me Sad. I took a mat, weights and shoes to my Mom's, and even bought lovely new sports bras. They are posh and beautiful (not in a Jillian kind of way, though). I must say I wore a t-shirt at the airport though.

I also moved up to 2kg weights. I am quite overweight, and not very fit, so need to do it gradually. Although I can definitely feel and see the difference even after just 6 weeks.

Have a nice day!

notyummy · 02/03/2012 09:55

NMTZ yesterday with the same weight combinations as last week (i.e slightly harder - mixture of 5kg, 7kg and 3kg) and feel better than I did last week. Back not niggling. Worked really hard on focussing on keeping my core engaged during the stuff with additional weight, so maybe it worked! Off out for a run when the fog clears and then DH and I plan to do L2 Shred with L3 Ripped straight after tomorrow. Out with friends on Saturday night so whether I do anything on Sunday will depend on how I feel....
