Moo!

L2 Shred today; haven't done it since starting and finishing Ripped, and can't help thinking that Shred is harder the Ripped; it's all the squatting exercises with weights that I find the hardest.

Anyone actually think that Ripped is harder?

notyummy · 06/03/2012 11:24

Just back from an 8 mile run. Felt like quite hard work tbh, but feel good now I am finished. Nothing yesterday and plan L2 6W6P tomorrow.

I think Shred/Ripped are pretty similar in terms of difficulty. I have done the shred so many times (and NMTZ) that I think I am now fairly good at the weights/squats stuff, so I am enjoying the fact that Ripped has very few similar exercises to Shred or NMTZ and my muscles are feel the pain in different ways (tricep push ups etc.) That said, I havent done L1 or L2 Ripped, just 3 and 4, so I don't know if I would have the same view then.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/03/2012 11:34

I agree that ripped does have lots of different exercises - I have been alternating NMTZ and 30DS for ages now, and did L2 of ripped last night and I ache this morning. I don't like ripped as much as 30DS though.

What is BFBM like? I have visions of it being like a 40 minute long versions of the 2 min cardio bits in 30DS (in other words it will kill me) - is it worth getting?

NMTZ is by far my favourite. Jillian is brilliant.

notyummy · 06/03/2012 11:59

BFBM is good - and a very good cardio workout. It is doable though because not all the sections are really, really intense. From memory circuits 2 and 5 (or is it 6...?) are really tough - but there are a couple that I think are really quite easy so you get a bit of a break. I tend not to do the warm-up because I think circuit 1 is so easy it is effectively a warm-up anyway.

I don't find much of the cardio in 30 DS challenging - although the rock stars/squat jumps can be quite tough. L2 6W6P is tough cardio wise I think (the second time through when she makes you do it at twice the speed...) and L4 Killer when you do burpees straight into something else (can't remember though!) sticks in my mind as being v hard cardio wise.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/03/2012 12:03

Agree 6W6P is a toughie when she goes at twice the speed!

I think I find the cardio elements tough because I purposelfully do the excercise the a really hot room, and it makes me huff and puff. Bloody double jump ropes!

gingercat12 · 06/03/2012 12:59

Just did Ripped L2. Am aching all over.

threestepsforward · 06/03/2012 13:43

It's the dreaded scissor squat things that follow the burpies notyummy

I think Shred is easier on the cardio than Ripped, and Ripped feels less intense on the strength stuff. I've certainly felt wiped out after Ls 3 and 4 of Ripped, whereas never quite so much after Shred.

OP posts:
notyummy · 06/03/2012 14:25

Scissor squats! That's it

CHST · 06/03/2012 14:47

Last day of level three. Tomorrow will be a rest day and then on to level 4. My triceps are thankful! I haven't found the cardio too challenging so far in ripped but hated those rock star jumps on level three of shred.
BFBM was a killer for me. I've done it twice and dreaded doing it. Maybe my endurance has improved since the last time I tried so might be worth testing that out

Arcadie · 06/03/2012 16:53

What on EARTH are scissor squats?

threestepsforward · 06/03/2012 17:22

Arcadie, you start in a forward facing squat and jump - and while you're in the air you cross (scissor) the legs - then land back in a squat. It's hard to explain so that might sound like nonsense Grin

Just done L1 Killer, pleased to be back into it. Apathy and lazyness breed more apathy and lazyness in me so I have to be quite strict with myself when I go off the boil!

Watched L3 after and I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. I like the fact Killer has bits and pieces of cardio in it. In L3 there are rockstar jumps to cannonball jumps (so rockstars followed by jumping and tucking the knees up forwards) - looks, erm, fun Hmm

Hope everyone is doing well Smile

Interesting discovery: when I do 30 mins on the cross-trainer at work with my iPod I burn 290-300 cals but on days I forget my iPod or it's out of battery, I do the same 30 minute programme with no music and burn 260-270 cals. I have noticed this a few times now, and it consistently makes the same difference. Totally makes sense when you think about it and isn't really surprising, but just interesting to see how much of a difference it makes exercising to music!

Good ripping/shredding/killer-ing everyone!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/03/2012 20:57

I agree re the music - I have got an elliptical trainer at home, and if I go on it for 30 mins whilst watching Friends, I don't really feel i have pushed myself, put if I put running tracks on MTV I really work out a lot harder.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/03/2012 20:58

I can't do the side planks on NMTZ or 6W6P - I find them impossible. Does anyone else find them hard?

Arcadie · 06/03/2012 23:17

3steps that sounds like medieval torture.

notyummy · 07/03/2012 08:00

Can you do them from the knees rather than supporting the whole body from the feet Getorf? I am not sure whether she shows the modified version or not, but if memory serves of other exercise classes, I believe that is it. I find them ok, but my core is pretty good - tis the jumping lunges that get me, everytime.

threestepsforward · 07/03/2012 09:14

I think she does do a modified version Getorf - you bend the leg resting on the mat and it makes it much more manageable.

Interesting about the music. Many moons ago when I used to run in the gym I used to run to music, but always very slow music (I remember "Survivor" by destiny's child(was it?) suited my snail's pace perfectly!)

Had a terrible night's sleep last night. Finally dropped off some time after 4 Sad Insomnia has plagued me most of my bloomin' life and I've yet to find a solution. Still plan to do L3 Killer later but it might be tough!

Hope everyone has a good day. Wet and miserable here boo

Notyummy - more jumping lunges in L3 Killer Grin

Happypiglet · 07/03/2012 10:20

Sorry to hear about your bad night sleep three steps
*getoifmyland BFBM is a really good work out in my opinion. And yes it IS like 40 minutes (plus) of the cardio from Shred! Although some of the circuits are less taxing it never stops for a break (except when my thumb accidentally presses the DVD player pause button!)
circuits three and six are an absolute killer though I do it once a week and that is more than enough!
Just finished NMTZ feel shattered! But have a good buzz too!

pigleychez · 07/03/2012 12:43

Hello,

Ive been doing the Shred. On about day 16/17 (lost count) and on level 2.. Thinking about level 3!

Friends have noticed a trimmer a waist on me and my tummy is definitely flatter. As this is one of my main problem areas I was wondering about trying the 6 pack in 6 weeks DVD too.

Anyone tried it? How does it compare to the shred?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/03/2012 12:52

Thanks everyone - I will order the BFBM.

I did the L1 of 6W6P last night and found it rather easy (apart from side planks). I will try the L2 tonight I think.

I have no idea why I can't do the side planks, I have tried the modified version as well, I just topple over onto my face, I think it is more a question of balance more than anything. It is a surprise as I thought I had rather a strong core, I certainly don't find any of the other 6W6P exercises too much of a challenge, just that one!

pigley highly recommend the 6W6P - it's a really good workout. It is a bit longer than the shred - about 40 mins all in.

notyummy · 07/03/2012 13:23

L2 is ....erm....a bit of a step up (not for the first 10/15 minutes or so...but then....) Enjoy! Grin

threestepsforward · 07/03/2012 16:27

Another one here recommending BFBM Getorf. You will feel knackered but happy at the end Smile In fact I must do it soon as I haven't done it for ages.

Just did L3 Killer... I enjoyed it! Was boinging away like a mad thing for the rock stars and cannon balls...and phoned it in massively for the jumping lunges! There was certainly a fair bit I didn't do too well the first time round but hopefully will improve with practice.

In the last circuit she does the fire hydrant into straightened leg for 1 minute on each side, and oh my word my arse cheek was having spasms by the end Grin.

The other important piece of new is that Jillian is at least 3 shades more orange in Killer, but I still love her!

and still circuit2 week 4 kills me every time. Will it ever get easier??!!

Albelino · 07/03/2012 17:03

I need some inspiration here from more experienced shredders/JM fans.
I'm on day 17(7th day level2) and have been doing it every day.Diet been pretty good too.
However-no change on scales(maybe even up a bit)and not 1mm smaller on tape measure. What's going on??
