Sorry chaps, my thinking cap is busted. Best title I could manage tonight!

Loads of comfy chairs in here, bowls of fruit, and lots of superfree veggies to snack on Wink

So, settle in, have a natter, and let's show the lard who's boss!

Thanks for the soup link, I'll have a look at that before I go shopping, which won't be anytime soon if I can help it!

I am still doing remarkably well even if I do say so myself. I treated myself to 3 rich tea biscuits. I'd have preferred something chocolate but hey ho, I can't have what we don't have.
So, even though I've been doing well with eating, I haven't made it to the gym yet. Little steps though, I'll get back there soon enough.

Don't suppose you know which school those delightful teens attend by any chance TSP? Some schools, certainly the more strict ones will deal with the children even though there were out of school. Assuming they were wearing a uniform that is. Well done to you for standing up to them. I probably would have got off and walked too but wouldn't have said a word to them, I'm too much of a coward I think! They sound truely horrid.

DD is having trouble at school again . Some little hard nut is threatening to beat her up. I do hope to bump in to the delightful little thing very soon. I've been down the school twice at home time this week but she hasn't been around. I won't do anything of course, I just want her to see me Grin

Suppose I'd better plan tomorrows meals. Friday night is takeaway night. If I have an EE day, could I get away with chicken chow mein?

I'm hungry now but its a bit late to eat. Nevermind, I'll just have to have something to drink and go to bed a bit earlier. I will avoid the kitchen at all costs!

kid · 26/01/2012 21:40

I had cod steaks in butter sauce tonight without checking syn value. I just found online that they are only 1.5 syns each. I had 2 so thats still only 3 syns and I had loads of sweetcorn and peas with it and some SW chips. It was really tasty and made a nice change as I've not had them for ages.

I am still getting confused though with syn value. For instance, those fish steaks are 1.5 on red, 1.5 on EE and 5 on green. Am I right in thinking you can only count a day as EE if you are filling a 3rd of your plate with the super free foods or whatever they are called. I don't actually know which foods they are, I just assume its vegetables.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/01/2012 21:52

Yes, you can only count a day as EE if you are having 1/3 of EVERY thing you eat as 'superfree' food. Superfree is all fresh and frozen fruit, but not canned/dried/pureed etc, and most veg, but NOT peas, sweetcorn, potatoes, parsnips. So your dinner didn't contain any superfree at all I'm afraid.
If you had that meal as a red day then you would need to count your chips as syns. If you had it as a green day then you would need to count the fish as syns (or poss as a healthy extra - would have to check if cod is listed or not).

kid · 26/01/2012 21:57

I was counting today as a red day but I really need to check books to make sure my foods are syn free on those days.

Today, I had:

b: 2 weetabix (b), milke (a), apple
l: 2 boiled eggs, onion, cucumber, tomatoes, 28g feta cheese (a/syns?)
D: 2 cod steaks in butter, peas, sweetcorn, approx 8 SW chips (didn't weigh them)

Muller light, apple, 3 rich tea biscuits (2 syns each I think = 6 syns)
I didn't have my extra (b) choice so maybe the chips could count towards that?

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/01/2012 22:02

chunjy sweercorn chowder recipe (i still need to dig out the recipe thread and will copy this to there too)
Free on EE or green. Don't even consider if you're on red!

200g raw quinoa
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut to 2cm dice
400g drained sweetcorn kernels
800ml boiling hot veg stock
200g green beans, trimmed and cut into 1cm pieces
1 celery stick, diced
1 red pepper, deseeded and diced
2-3 garlice cloves, peeled and chopped
2cm piece root ginger, peeled and grated
1 green chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
1tsp ground coriander
1tsp ground cumin
1tsp paprika
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1 bay leaf
4 spring onions, finely sliced
6 tbsp finely chopped fresh coriander
salt & pepper

put everything into the slow cooker pot. Stir to mix well and cover with the lid. Cook on low for 4 hours or until it is thick and soupy.
removed bay leaf before serving.

I found that it needed more than the 800ml of stock, although I don't know if that was somehow affected by dh putting it on high instead of low for the first 1.5hrs. I also halved the paprika and left out the chilli altogether iirc, as we don't like our food too hot.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/01/2012 22:07

you can have 1 or 2 A type HEs on a red day, so you can count your feta as that.
You can't count chips as a HE though (only jacket potatoes or new boiled potatoes, as you need the skin for fibre to count it as a HE), so your chips are syns, as are all of your peas and your sweetcorn. Sad

Cheeseandbiscuits · 26/01/2012 22:09

Enough Enough, Very Important Announcement.

I Have Had A Poo!

I am now 3 stone lighter!

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/01/2012 22:09

GrinGrin

kid · 26/01/2012 22:17

Well done Cheese and thanks for sharing!

I have to syn my peas and sweetcorn? NOOOOOO!
Would they be free on a green day? As the weetabix would be a (b) choice on either day, so would the boiled eggs. So, would it being a green day salvage some syns?

See, just when I thought I was getting the hang of this, it all goes pear shaped Sad
I really, really appreciate your advice CSWS

So, if I pretend it was actually a green day:

b: 2 weetabix (b), milk (a), apple
l: 2 boiled eggs, onion, cucumber, tomatoes, 28g feta cheese (a)
D: 2 cod steaks in butter (10syns Shock, peas, sweetcorn, SW chips

Muller light, apple, 3 rich tea biscuits (2 syns each I think = 6 syns)

Total syns = 16syns, just a touch over allowance but not too drastic.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 26/01/2012 22:23

No such thing as TMI surely? Grin

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/01/2012 22:57

Oh yy kid - that works much better as a green day. :)

Cheeseandbiscuits · 27/01/2012 07:53

Morning all. Unsurprisingly my plan to get up at 6 am and go to the gym failed! I am driving up to Cardiff later And I am determined to vaguely stick to plan.

Have a good Friday everyone!

kid · 27/01/2012 08:41

I over slept again this morning, not a good start to the day. But, seeing as its Friday, I know I'll survive Grin

TheScarlettPimpernel · 27/01/2012 08:49

Morning! Happy Friday mes enfants!

Congrats on the poo Cheese. I just toasted you in a glass of Movicol

Now then now then. It's MY DAY OFF! Grin

We are going to cook a bit of a Chinese Feast for luncheon, using The Year of the Dragon as an excuse. Menu so far is Cheese's stuffed cabbage rolls and wontons, and a Keith Floyd recipe for stir-fried sesame aubergine. Yeah baby!

Then this evening we are off to a vintage horror double bill and I shall have sweeties so there

I have worked out that we will be walking a total of around 6 miles today, which will probably only account for about half of lunch, but it's better than a poke in the eye.

With any luck I will then wake up tomorrow so satiated and disgusted with myself I subsist on nothing but air and ice cubes for the next few days and climb triumphantly to the top of the Big Fat List. Now there's a plan, am I right?!

Hedgepig · 27/01/2012 09:10

Sounds like a cunning plan pimp Grin

Good grief this red and green malarkey is very complicated kid and CSWS, I knew there was a reason I only ever did EE.

It is my day at home with DS1 so we are obviously running around like headless chickens doing chores, have a good day all

Hedgepig · 27/01/2012 09:11

PS Cheese I had a poo too, I feel much better. Grin

pixiestix · 27/01/2012 10:07

Just marking my place. Congratulations on all the pooing! Grin

grinningbee · 27/01/2012 10:11

Morning all!

Yay for the poo Cheese Grin. I'm sure it was a beautiful moment... ha ha ha ha ha Wink

Yay also to yours Hedge Grin

Boo to the confusion Kid. I think sometime soon I shall have to sit down and re-read the plans, just to refresh myself. Never tried the EE. Too confusing! It's easy to get stuck in a rut though.

TSP Happy Day Off! I'm intrigued - what films are you seeing later? I love love love old horror films. I used to own a copy of Metropolis on 8mm. Sadly it got sold Sad.

Food for the day:

Ready brek, 1 x Ryvita Dark with 1 tsp marmalade, banana
Fried (ok, Frylighted) mushrooms, tomatoes, onion and scrambled eggs with fruit and yogurt for pud
Quorn sausages, baked beans and a big pile of mash with a couple of syns woth of horseradish in it

P.s Pub last night. Man with dogs did come in, and ignored us. His wife walked in the door, saw me and then scarpered! When he left after an hour it took me a minute to realise that H was missing... he'd followed him down the road to "have words". Thankfully it didn't come to anything other than words. But he'd promised me he wouldn't do any confrontation. Post beer always seems to change things. And then he fell asleep in his dinner later.... Angry.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 27/01/2012 10:19

thanks for all the congrats, I now feel it was more a team day of doom poo. What an achievement! I'd like to thank...

Enjoy the chinese tsp and I do hope you like the bits. Dh now wants to have a night of Chinese goodies. Enjoy the horror films - I hate them. I get scared watching mission impossible! I won't even watch scream wimp!

bee I think it's a fathers natural instinct to protect their kids. My dh would have done the same! I meant to ask, is J up to date with his imms? Otherwise he needs a tetanus jab.

Enjoy chores hedge

debka · 27/01/2012 10:25

Morning all, you do make me laugh Scarlett, enjoy your Day Off, your lunch sounds lush.

I am also tres confused with all this green/red business, I just stick to EE like you hedgepig

cheese nothing like a good poo Grin

Home alone now and trying desperately hard to resist the lure of the DCs Shreddies, how I love them....

B- bacon, egg, pear (didn't like my porridge yesterday)
L- veg soup, maybe some noodles, fruit
D- not sure yes, may be chicken and veg soup if I don't get to the shops. Anyone got any inspiration for my dinner you can share??
S- 2 weetabix and a begrudged apple after my run

TheScarlettPimpernel · 27/01/2012 10:50

Bee we're watching The Wicker Man and The Witchfinder General Confused

DH really REALLY wants to go bless him and he rarely gets excited about things. i am really looking forward to it, but equally, I seem to recall trying to watch The Witchfinder General a while ago and ending up in tears of anguish and terror Grin

I don't know what's come over me but seem to be taking this diet very very seriously. I felt all ooogly about having a Day Off so just spent 40 minutes minutely calculating all the calories in lunch and working it out so I can be within limit. I assure you this level of virtue is unheard of and is slightly alarming Hmm

Hmph. by the time I arrive at the flicks stuffed to the gills with wontons I will still have around 400 cals in hand. I really did intend to throw caution to the wind today. Still, I guess there's still time for it all to go thoroughly bent!

TheScarlettPimpernel · 27/01/2012 10:52

Bee I am so sorry about the wretched dog thing Sad

I completely understand your DH's impulse but that in itself is quite unsettling isn't it - you want everything to revert to peace and quiet I guess, not to be kept going with confrontations etc...

grinningbee · 27/01/2012 11:24

Thanks peeps. Sadly H has been known to hit people before, but looking at his knuckles last night, I don't believe he did.

Now then. TSP I do hope the version of Wicker Man you are going to see is not the N Cage version . It was bloody awful!

The original is fab, and still makes me cry at the end. And it features one of my favourites - Christopher Lee. The other one is a bit odd, but also features another top favourite of mine - Vincent Price. I actually got that as ds's middle name Grin Vincent that is, not the whole thing.

Seeing as we're sharing today, I have also produced a most satisfying whoopsie today. I feel so much better Grin

Off to the council yet again now. They want room measurements and the size of the kids beds. But, so you can work out if it's reasonable or not - the room is 8ft x 9.5ft. Both cot beds are 2.5ft x 5ft, and we have an air box on one wall that sticks out by 5 inches, and the opposite wall has the storage heater, also sticking out by 5 inches. Never mind fitting in drawers or toys! Does that sound too cramped?

risingfromtheashes · 27/01/2012 11:48

Can I join you all on your journey? Hope to be off the cigarettes next week (Am on Day 5 of Champix) and don't want to pile more weight on top of what I am currently attempting to waddle round with Grin.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 27/01/2012 11:52

Hello Rising

Welcome and good luck with giving up the smokes :)

I'm off out to buy Chinese Goodies for my Day Off (see posts passim!) but there'll be people along soon - meanwhile do feel free to tell us more - how much you want to lose, and how you're doing it, etc.!
