January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

alicia - hoping we'll see you (well not exactly you) on telly again soon! I've been looking for a start date for The Good Wife but can only find 'early 2012', grrrr.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 27/12/2011 18:02

It starts on 12 Jan on More 4, can't wait!

GypsyMoth · 27/12/2011 18:06

I might combine it with 30 day shred or the new 'ripped' Jillian Michaels.

Another 'tip' .. I find it best to not eat for few hours beforehand. No heavy meals.

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 27/12/2011 18:22

I went into M+S today to look for a new sports bra (mine must be too small now as I bought it when I was 2 stone lighter!) I was hoping to find one in the sales or with a discount but no such luck Sad However I did buy 2 non-sports bras so not a total bust (ha, see what I did there?). I just don't know of anywhere else that stocks plus-sized sports bras!

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 27/12/2011 19:13

I'm in.....eeeeeek. I have never been any good at physical activity ever!

Got to buy trainers and sports bra and find some way to run when velcro baby DS (6months) is asleep. Got to shift the 5 stones of extra weight I'm carrying (I lost it all in 2008 and put it all back on again in 2010 when I lost a baby (DS1) when I was nearly 6 months pregnant).

Will try Wildstrawberry's tip (up thread) for where to get sports bras.

Am also going back to weight watchers (am a gold member from 2008) but think that's all changed now so will have to relearn that.

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 27/12/2011 19:36

ps am stupidly excited that the Good Wife is starting again soon - hurray Xmas Smile

cocoachanneloffestivecheer · 27/12/2011 20:57

Hi all,

I'd love to join if I may?

I need to lose between 1.5 & 2 stone. I have a ten month old and am a full time WOHM, so time is tight.

I stupidly signed up to run ten km for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust at the end of May. They're a wonderful charity- I really don't want to let them down...

cocoachanneloffestivecheer · 27/12/2011 20:59

Also v. much looking forward to Good Wife Grin

Ladies, I'm in. I did couch to 5k at the beginning of 2010 but it's all gone downhill since then. I need to lose at least 2.5 stone, get fit and try and do some exercise to help my stress levels.

scrappydappydoo · 27/12/2011 21:27

Can I join too? I've started c25k a couple of times but for various reasons never got past week 2. Determined to get fit this year. I do need to lose weight but I'm trying to focus on being and feeling healthy rather than obsessing with stones and pounds. Going to try going out in the mornings when dd is at playgroup. Do need to sort new sports bra though!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/12/2011 21:39

I cant find my bloody ipod!!! I want to do this

ohbugrit · 27/12/2011 21:51

Could you use your phone, MrsDV?

falalalalagirl · 27/12/2011 22:08

Just checking in and marking a place. I did my first C25K run in new trainers last week and they ripped all the skin off my heels Shock and so as soon as I have finished the bag of Christmas chocolate, I am going to be Mrs Slimming World and I am determined to start the running again.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/12/2011 22:13

Dont think you can with a blackberry can you? I am worried one of the DCs has nabbed my ipod. They spend their days seeing if they get their hands on various bits belonging to me. Its their lifes work to nick my phone, ipod, camera etc.

The find them endlessly fascinating Hmm

tribpot · 27/12/2011 22:24

Blackberry advice Mrs D - just download the mp3 files, et voila.

Santageekmum · 28/12/2011 02:23

Welcome perfecting, cocoa, silent, scrappy and Falala

MrsDV stop making excuses Wink Blackberrys of course can be used.

An Ode to C25K by geekmum

Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Ha ha I have been told!
Grin

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 28/12/2011 10:14

liking the poem v much indeed Grin

I'm off to buy trainers today and ordered a sports bra online - figleaves have got a level 4 shock absorber one down to #18 from #30 with free delivery - slightly funky colours but I don't care.

Is it bad I want to take the Christmas tree down now so it feels like it's closer to the start of the new year ??(got a very frosty glare at the mere suggestion of it from my 4 yo DD this morning....perhaps at the weekend then)

I am so monumentally unfit - I do hope the NHS mean when they mean when they say 'beginners'.....I'm thinking do they know I'm like one of those people off Wall-E who basically does no exercise.

jchocchip · 28/12/2011 11:17

Love the poem :) geekmum.

pphs - you should go at your own pace and if that means starting with two speeds of walking just do it. It says you should be able to maintain a conversation during the walking bit, so don't go too fast during the jog...

delilahbelle · 28/12/2011 11:22

Ouch ouch ouch

Am walking like an old woman today - did not feel it at all after my run yesterday but obviously my muscles took some damage.
I'm going to run again tomorrow - Tuesday's, Thursday's and Saturday's will be my days.

And paddington I'm ready to take the tree down too. We are away for NYE and I won't want to do it when we get back with a hangover.

yehudiwho · 28/12/2011 11:27

I will join this too- did my first run yesterday - did think i was going to die and couldnt wait for the dulcet tones to tell me 'now slow down' but I did the whole 30 minutes and felt really good - I too am completely unfit and about 3 stone overweight so am hoping to lose a fews stone. I will definitely unearth the sports bra- nearly blacked my eye yesterday.
NB the music on the NHS podcast is truly awful - wish i had an iphone as someone told me that you can use your own music but stuck with my son's MP3 for now

Stylelostinlabour · 28/12/2011 11:40

Me can I join too please - going to start it on Saturday under the cover of darkness. My only problem is I'm so embarrassed by my fat body and even when I was super fit (honest I was about 16 years ago) I still looked like a heart attack waiting to happen, I just go so red in the face as soon as I start, I see all these great runners about who don't look like they have even broken sweat!

Must get over this issue so I can enjoy it and not be so self conscious - anyone else like this?

Stylelostinlabour · 28/12/2011 11:40

Oh also does anyone have any music recommendations for when they are out and about?

jen127 · 28/12/2011 11:43

Can I join ! I tried to get this started last year and couldn't get past week 3!!! I have all the gear just need the motivation and the encouragemnet and this sounds like the place for it!!!
I love the good wife!!
