January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

Am going to do week 2 day 3 later whilst DH is around. Not sure I have the motivation to go first thing in the morning. Too busy sleeping / catching up on sleep with cold filled baby.

jchocchip · 08/01/2012 11:35

w2r3 done, saw a cat up a tree, does that count? Last holiday run, will be travelling home tomorrow. Hope I can bring some of this warm weather back with me :)

Couch to 5k, Trainers brought, sports bras sought, we've started so we'll finish.

HalleLouja · 08/01/2012 11:36

C25K on you marks, get set, put your shopping bags down and run.

I have a good idea in there waiting to get out. Just need to figure it out.

Panadbois · 08/01/2012 12:26

nearly saw a porpoise on mu first run....

Just enjoyed a fry-up, so will do some gentle streches to get me ready to start again go for my third run later.

OneLieIn · 08/01/2012 13:14

W2r2 done. A BIG mistake to go running with my 10 year old whose first question was "why are you so out of breath?" and then left me for dust as she ran off into the distance. I enjoyed what little of her company I had between the walk to catch her up and then a run.

Then to cap it all saw a friend (male) going for a very long run, of course looking fit and not half as knackered as I was..

Need to go alone when it's dark. It's the only way.

OneLieIn · 08/01/2012 13:15

pan how do you nearly see a porpoise??

thestringcheesemassacre · 08/01/2012 13:36

This thread is gold.
I've just completed run 3, week 3. Very daunted by stepping up to 3/5min runs next week. Eek.

I did see a school gate mum which was a bit shameful but anywho.

I love all the new thread names.

Jan C25k, step away from the pies.

Well done everyone, keep going.

OneLieIn · 08/01/2012 13:43

C25K feeling less like a hippo and nearly seeing a porpoise

nomorecake · 08/01/2012 13:44

did w1r2 yesterday - just reporting back to say aches and pains aren't as bad the 1st time. body recovering quicker.
Keep going! Smile

openyerlugholes · 08/01/2012 14:22

Goodness have we almost got through a whole thread? Shock C25K - run the mumsnetter's way! (0/0 for effort)

No run for me today. Have blisters on my blisters, despite wearing two pairs of socks and covering my heels in plasters. Waaaaaah! Stupid trainers. As soon as I get paid the end of this month am off to buy a new pair.

haziedoll hope your baby niece is improving, poor little thing. You must be worried sick Sad

rusmum · 08/01/2012 14:28

bishboschone · 08/01/2012 14:33

ln1981 · 08/01/2012 14:37

haziedoll hope your niece improves soon. sending you and your family love and positive thoughts.

well last run of week 1 today- woohoo!!! Am looking forwrad to moving on to the next week.

thestringcheesemassacre when i attempted this last year i managed to get to the 3/5min runs and i found it quite difficult at the start but i kept repeating that week till i was able to do all the runs-think it took me 3weeks in total!! Blush and then we got into the summer hols and i never went again.
I'm sure you will be find though-im asthamatic and was not quite as fit as I thought I was!

Not got any thread title offerings as I am rubbish at it but am quite liking kinkydoritos suggestions! Grin

goingtobefree · 08/01/2012 14:45

In the middle of doing my thesis and supposed to be working {but mn ing Wink...}

Panadbois · 08/01/2012 15:32

haziedoll- best wishes for your little niece.

oneliein - an old man stopped me during my first run to say that he'd seen a really big fish making a really big splash, so spent the next 25 minutes running up and down same path trying to catch a glimpse of what I believe to be a porpoise.

R3W1 done today, legs are killing me! Why is it that its my bottom half, front part of my legs that's hurting, when its all bone??

how about C25k via undertakers?

cocoachannel · 08/01/2012 16:00

Hi everyone

Well done to everyone who has run this weekend. I went for a very long walk with DH & DD, but am doing my last run for the week tomorrow.

Thoughts and prayers to Hazie and family

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 08/01/2012 16:19

How about - Mum's on the run (ish) with c25k

OneLieIn · 08/01/2012 16:56

Computer to 5k?

Woodlands · 08/01/2012 16:56

I did W1R3 today - still feel so unfit! I ran round the park and there was a woman just ahead of me who was running/walking in the same pattern as me, so I thought she must be doing it too. As we were leaving the park I caught up with her as she was cleaning the mud off her trainers and I said brightly "Couch to 5k?". She still had her headphones in and looked at me blankly - it must have been obvious I was speaking to her but never mind!

NoseyNooNoo · 08/01/2012 17:07

I did Wk1 R1 today. Was OK but the park was busy and I was over taken by a 4 year old and there was a 12 yr old being coached by her dad.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from Week2 in terms of length of run/walk etc.

ScienceGeekMum · 08/01/2012 17:10

Thighs a slapping, boobs a flapping, it's c25k, get fit today!

MetalSian · 08/01/2012 17:16

Also done W1R3 today.
Found it much easier, my chest didn't feel like it was going to die.
Still but apprehensive about week 2 though.
And my dad said he might run with me on Sundays which will be nice xD.

Still motivated so far which is good.
I don't know whether to weigh and measure myself every week or after a few weeks, don't want to feel like the effort is for no reason if I haven't improved!

KinkyDorito · 08/01/2012 17:43

Pleased they were appreciated In1981!!!

Although I am an imposter as I still haven't been running yet...

turningitaround · 08/01/2012 17:49

Well, I've just finished week one. It feels really good and I'm so impressed with all of us, although get a bit like this Envy when I read about people who are already on week 3. The best thing so far has been actually getting out into the countryside (albeit not very far). Today was the first day it was dry enough to go 'off road' and just as I hopping puddles along a footpath, the sun finally broke through over the next field. It was beautiful and I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
So far my best running track is proving to be James - sit down (slightly ironically), there's something really uplifting to running to that.; I lnow people made a few suggestiions a while back but now that we've all got a bit of experience, perhaps we should try again - i've only got ten songs downloaded on my iphone (just for the C25k app) and could do with some more inspiration ....
