January couch to 5k - who's with me?

Santageekmum · 26/12/2011 11:59

I am massively overweight and have never run before but am planning on starting the nhs couch to 5k plan in January (first Thursday in fact).

Who would like to don their trainers and join me?

Also if anyone has a good sports bra to recommend, I'm bf and a 40dd at the moment and need a new one for running.

I'm in. I'm 12 stone and before xmas was doing treadmill walking/running every week. Had built up to 5k running myself without plan/app etc, but back at square 1 after christmas lol. Went to gym and did a walking/running 5k today in a super-slow time of 50 minutes.
My previous best time when I managed to run the whole distance was 38 mins. So would like to start building up to doing it in a decent time - I felt I was going flat out at 38 minutes, can't imagine going faster! But getting under 30 minutes ultimately would be a great goal to aim for.

Thanks for all your kind words regarding my niece. She is still very sick but the Doctors have said she has turned a corner and things are definitely looking more positive than they were at the beginning of the weekend. Smile

Interested in those using the c25k app, I've got the podcast so stuck with their choice of music. Its fine but be nice to chose my own music.

I have broken the rules today and run two days in a row. Was so unhappy after yesterday I wanted to give week 2 a go and try to feel more positive about the whole things and it was much easier than yesterday. So I har managed to next step and am looking forward to my next run, yay!!

Some people are just rude woodlands!

kinkydorito but the intentions there!! You'll be fine once you get going.

*sciencegeekmum that doesnt sound too bad. I couldnt find it on my ipod, it seems to have disappeared, though its more likely that I have deleted it!! Usually get dp to do all the techie stuff much to his amusement! Dont know how many times he has shown me how to do it, i still get my knickers in a twist!

Took my phone with me today so I could use runkeeper. Shock I checked it at the end and it amazed me how far i had run, as I just run in a loop really-1.75miles. Doesnt sound alot but I really didnt think the loop was as long as that! Also found todays run quite hardgoing -thought my chest was going to explode. Ready for week two though, once I get dp to download it for me!

Right off to get the xmas tree down now. Kids are back to school on Tuesday and if it doesnt comedown now it will never come down!

I love your running tracks MetalSian. I've been on the cross trainer with Rob Zombie, Disturbed and Rammstein which make me move more. I never thought of Korn. Durh. I'm off to upload all my CDs onto ITunes now. Cheers Grin.

Ah, turningitaround, that sounds beautiful!

Watch out, spoilers below for week 2 as requested by Nosey
It's 90s running, 2m walking, so 30s more running and 30s more walking. Take it slow at the start, you'll get through it.

I'm going to ask DH to choose the winning thread title at 6.30 so keep your eyes open for my next post!

I love my running tracks, but they probably aren't to everyone's taste ;P.

Metallica, System of a Down, Disturbed, KoRn, Lamb of God and Tarot.

Well, I've just finished week one. It feels really good and I'm so impressed with all of us, although get a bit like this Envy when I read about people who are already on week 3. The best thing so far has been actually getting out into the countryside (albeit not very far). Today was the first day it was dry enough to go 'off road' and just as I hopping puddles along a footpath, the sun finally broke through over the next field. It was beautiful and I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
So far my best running track is proving to be James - sit down (slightly ironically), there's something really uplifting to running to that.; I lnow people made a few suggestiions a while back but now that we've all got a bit of experience, perhaps we should try again - i've only got ten songs downloaded on my iphone (just for the C25k app) and could do with some more inspiration ....

Also done W1R3 today.
Found it much easier, my chest didn't feel like it was going to die.
Still but apprehensive about week 2 though.
And my dad said he might run with me on Sundays which will be nice xD.

Still motivated so far which is good.
I don't know whether to weigh and measure myself every week or after a few weeks, don't want to feel like the effort is for no reason if I haven't improved!

I did Wk1 R1 today. Was OK but the park was busy and I was over taken by a 4 year old and there was a 12 yr old being coached by her dad.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from Week2 in terms of length of run/walk etc.

Report
Woodlands · 08/01/2012 16:56

I did W1R3 today - still feel so unfit! I ran round the park and there was a woman just ahead of me who was running/walking in the same pattern as me, so I thought she must be doing it too. As we were leaving the park I caught up with her as she was cleaning the mud off her trainers and I said brightly "Couch to 5k?". She still had her headphones in and looked at me blankly - it must have been obvious I was speaking to her but never mind!

Hi everyone

Well done to everyone who has run this weekend. I went for a very long walk with DH & DD, but am doing my last run for the week tomorrow.

Thoughts and prayers to Hazie and family

haziedoll- best wishes for your little niece.

oneliein - an old man stopped me during my first run to say that he'd seen a really big fish making a really big splash, so spent the next 25 minutes running up and down same path trying to catch a glimpse of what I believe to be a porpoise.

R3W1 done today, legs are killing me! Why is it that its my bottom half, front part of my legs that's hurting, when its all bone??

how about C25k via undertakers?
